"Fatal error, run database recovery " when there are no txns to recover.
Hi, all.
I have a DB file containing multiple databases. Without using DBEnvironments, I can open it to get the dbnames. I can open the databases RDONLY,
and see that their contents are correct. I can open them RW, and everything works.
But when I try to create a new one, I get this:
D = bsddb3.db.DB()
D.open('test.db',dbname='test',dbtype=B.DB_BTREE,flags=B.DB_CREATE)Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
bsddb3.db.DBRunRecoveryError: (-30974, 'DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery -- PANIC: fatal region error detected; run recovery')
Note that this is in the non-transactional case. There is no Env, and there are no logfiles or __db files. So the error code mystifies me.
Strace shows that the file is opened RW, and read through.

So, where to proceed? Many thanks for any and all help.Hmm. Other thing to note:
[tradedesk@vader 2010-05-06.test]$ /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.8/bin/db_verify foo.db
db_verify: Subdatabase entry references page 266 of invalid type 13

Not sure how that came about or how to prevent it, but it might have to do wit this issue. -

juniour oracle dbadamorgan,
He is running 8.1.7.0. "DataGuard" scripts were initially available for 9i and then
backported (and available as a seperate download) for 8i. Many 8i implementations
did not and do not use DataGuard.
Even if it is "Jurassic" {which it certainly is NOT}, they obviously do have a good
reason for setting up a standby -- they DO have data of value. So, maybe they have
not upgraded to 9i or 10g. There could be a dozen reasons
1. Server HW/OS doesn't support 9i/10g, not budgetting for Server upgrade
2. Application using Forms 2.x or 4.5 and not tested on 9i / 10g (4.5 not certified
on 9i)
3. Low end client PCs working perfectly with Character-mode forms, not powerful
enought to run Jinitiator and Forms 6i / 9i
Just because someone hasn't upgraded to 10g doesn't mean that they are at fault
when you do NOT know the reason why they have not upgraded.
Surely, they do know that 8i is desupported. Don't you think that their management
has undertaken due diligence / cost-benefit analysis in considering whether they
should upgrade to 10g ?
Maybe they have another project implementing 10g in parallel and will be able
to shutdown this environment soon. Maybe they don't need to do so.
Do understand that people are intelligent enough to make their own decisions
considering their particular circumstances and don't go shooting off with your
assumption that anyone not running 10g is a dinosaur. -
Alter database recover to logical standby is hanging
Hi,
when I try to convert my physical standby to logical standby using
alter database recover to logical standby STANDBYL;
the command just hangs
I have seen the usual hit on this which is to create the Redo Dictionary on the Primary using
execute dbms_logstdby.build;
which I did but the alter database command still keeps hanging on my Standby
Any ideas,
thanks
JimHello;
Does your Standby alert log have any lines like this:
RECOVER TO LOGICAL ...
If yes look for the message ( after this )
Starting datafile conversion
and post any errors or warnings you have.

Error "inconsistent database" on DVD installer CS5
i reformated my disc and tried to install CS 5 Design Standard, but i get this error every time again,
(error "inconsistent database" on DVD installer) although i dont have any product on my disc (fresh formated and new system),
so it was useless to use the adobe cs5 cleaner tool (which i used to try, but there werent any things to remove)
- 10.8.2 on macbook pro i7
- installing CS 5 Design Standard from external USB-Superdrive (no superdrive in my macbook pro anymore)
next, i tried to duplicate the CS 5 Design Standard Installer DVD with Toast and made an image on my internal 500GB SSD,
but same error again, when trying to install from this image: "inconsistend database"
idea: can i download the "CS 5 Design Standard" Trial version and install that & register with my serial number?
(tried to find, but couldnt find any cs5 version at adobe.com)
thanks!Moving this discussion to the Downloading, Installing, and Setting up forum.
What is the exact error message you are receiving? You may also want to see Installation, launch log errors | CS5, CS5.5, CS6, CCM - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/installation-launch-log-errors-creative.html.
It sounds like this issue occured when you tried copying the application over. If you can provide the exact error it might still be possible to recover from this action.
Finally if you are looking for a copy of the installation files for Creative Suite 5 please see http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html. -

DB_ER_INVALIDSTATE = incorrect use of a cursor or other database object(For
example, where
a program attempts to fetech from a cursor that is not open).Hmm,
From the informix finderror utility
<START QUOTE>
-107 ISAM error: record is locked.
Another user request has locked the record that you requested or the file
(table) that contains it. This condition is normally transient. A program
can recover by rolling back the current transaction, waiting a short time,
and re-executing the operation. For interactive SQL, redo the operation. For
C-ISAM programs, review the program logic and make sure that it can handle
this case, which is a normal event in multiprogramming systems. You can
obtain exclusive access to a table by passing the ISEXCLLOCK flag to isopen.
For SQL programs, review the program logic and make sure that it can handle
this case, which is a normal event in multiprogramming systems. The simplest
way to handle this error is to use the statement SET LOCK MODE TO WAIT. For
bulk updates, see the LOCK TABLE statement and the EXCLUSIVE clause of the
DATABASE statement.
<END QUOTE>
I have found that whenever I see the phrase "couldn't do a physical
order read to fetch next row." it means the database has tried to read a
locked record and lock mode is set to NO WAIT or the lock mode has timed
out.
There are a number of solutions. The main one being to try again
later.
Cheers

Database restore; database recover; Last step?
Ok, this is my first try with rman to restore and recover from tape.
My restore database finished successfully...no errors.
My recover database finished successfully...no errors.
Now...what is my last step?
Do I shut down and open back up normally, or, do I need to do something like shut down, then open with reset logs?
I'm guessing a full database backup after this re-opening would be a good idea too, no?
Thank you,

No need to be snippy about it...everyone else is happy to give some advice and help to someone who is obviously a noob at much of this and learning as he goes.

Diff btw "recover datafile file#" & "alter database recover datafile file#"
What is the difference between
"recover datafile file#"
"alter database recover datafile file#"
Thanks
NaveenI don't mean to be rude, but the statement that "There is no difference in both the commands" is facile in the extreme. Sounds like more off-the-cuff instant advice than the considered thoughts of someone who's actually bothered to try both commands out.
The "alter database recover..." command is a disaster waiting to happen and should never be used by anyone who actually wants to achieve a successful database recovery. It has the effect of suppressing most of the interactive dialogue you get when you submit the shorter "recover..." command, and indeed causes spurious errors to be displayed because the non-interactive recovery process gets it wrong.
For example, here's me recovering my database using the "alter database" syntax:
SQL> alter database open;
alter database open
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 4 - see DBWR trace file

ORA-00280: change 642359 for thread 1 is in sequence #9Note the slightly alarming report of an 'error at line 1'. What's difficult to convey in mere text, however, is that at the end of that output, the thing just sits there, and you've no idea what on Earth is happening on the database. The text tells you it's making a suggestion, but there's no indication of how you accept the suggestion, of what's happening when you do accept it or where anything is up to.
I've interrupted one of those once (fortunately only in a training room) and lost the entire database as a result (because a half-complete, interrupted recovery is worse than no recovery at all).
Compare that with the plain "recover..." syntax example:

Anyone that uses "alter database" syntax during a recovery is, therefore, either brave or foolhardy. In either case, there is a very profound difference between the two.
Your parting shot that 'alter database' is a SQL command and 'recover' can be an RMAN command misses the point by a wide mile, too. RMAN can issue pretty much any piece of SQL you like, so long as you wrap it in the SQL command:
RMAN> sql 'alter database recover datafile 4';
using target database control file instead of recovery catalog
sql statement: alter database recover datafile 4

ORA-00280: change 642359 for thread 1 is in sequence #9We don't get much further in RMAN with this dodgy form of the recovery command than we did in SQL*Plus, it's true -but that's just because it's a silly command to use in the first place, wherever you thought to use it. The distinction you seek to draw between 'SQL commands' and 'RMAN commands' is false in this case, in other words. -
DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
I am getting this error when trying to add data to QUEUE. But after I restart my app, this error does not happen anymore.
2009-08-16 10:27:12.558990 [ERR] mod_cdr_bdb.c:370 Unable to add cdr to Queue. Error=DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
Does anyone know what could be the cause of the error?Hi,
Do you know the steps that lead up to this error? Can you reproduce it?
Were there any error messages sent to the error log file? Can you confirm that you have verbose error messages turned on by always initializing one of the error callback interfaces in your environment. This will provide verbose error messages:
DB_ENV->set_errcall, DB_ENV->set_errfile, DB_ENV->set_errpfx, and DB_ENV->set_verbose.
What flags are you using when opening the environment and the database?
The procedure you have to follow when you receive this error is described here: [DB_RUNRECOVERY|http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/ref/program/errorret.html#DB_RUNRECOVERY]
DB_RUNRECOVERY:
There exists a class of errors that Berkeley DB considers fatal to an entire Berkeley DB environment. An example of this type of error is a corrupted database page. The only way to recover from these failures is to have all threads of control exit the Berkeley DB environment, run recovery of the environment, and re-enter Berkeley DB. (It is not strictly necessary that the processes exit, although that is the only way to recover system resources, such as file descriptors and memory, allocated by Berkeley DB.)
When this type of error is encountered, the error value DB_RUNRECOVERY is returned. This error can be returned by any Berkeley DB interface. Once DB_RUNRECOVERY is returned by any interface, it will be returned from all subsequent Berkeley DB calls made by any threads of control participating in the environment.
Applications can handle such fatal errors in one of two ways: first, by checking for DB_RUNRECOVERY as part of their normal Berkeley DB error return checking, similarly to DB_LOCK_DEADLOCK or any other error. Alternatively, applications can specify a fatal-error callback function using the DB_ENV->set_event_notify method. Applications with no cleanup processing of their own should simply exit from the callback function.Thanks,

Error Open database!!!
My database is not archivelog mode.
We need to restore it but we don't have the BACKUP, only system and data datafiles.
When we open the database, ther is the error
ora 01113 AND ORA 01110 and we need to recovery the database and get functional.
Error: File need to recover 'n:\database\res1prod.ora'
Is it possible to restart the database ? If yes how can i do ?Well, I really don't see how can you recover a database without a backup !
One thing could try though
STARTUP MOUNT the database,
then issue ALTER DATABASE RECOVER.
When prompted for a log file name, respond with the name of your online redo log file, one by one.
Hopefully, the information needed for recovery is in the online redo log files -
