Database restore; database recover; Last step?
Ok, this is my first try with rman to restore and recover from tape.
My restore database finished successfully...no errors.
My recover database finished successfully...no errors.
Now...what is my last step?
Do I shut down and open back up normally, or, do I need to do something like shut down, then open with reset logs?
I'm guessing a full database backup after this re-opening would be a good idea too, no?
Thank you,

Restored database, can't perform 'System Restore'
We've just performed a system reset of a system by performing a database restore to a version from a few months back. I now need to reapply the SC's that have been modified since the initial database snapshot.
However, when I try to perform a restore, the DI gives me a message indicating that the system already has the up-to-date version. Checking the SystemInfo page, it's quite clearly shown that the SC is the old version; checking in the SLD also shows the old build version. However, running the SDM tool shows the new version as being deployed...
Inspecting the file system, you can see all the originally deployed SCs in the folder /usr/sap/SID/JC00/SDM/root/origin, organized by domain and DC. The SC I need to redeploy is indeed in these directories, and I think I can probably fix my problem by removing the file, but I'm not sure of the side effects of doing this.
It's almost as if SAP expects you to perform a full system restore, rather than a database restore when recovering a system, since data is contained in both the database, and the file system.
Opinions?Just used SDM to force/sync the system.

I've been trying to restore a tablespace that I intentionally deleted a table from just to practice on restoring data in Oracle. Basically I did a full backup of the whole database the night before. The next morning I deleted a complete table from the TEST_DATA tablespace intentionally. I then ran the following commands:
SQL> ALTER TABLESPACE TEST_DATA OFFLINE IMMEDIATE;
RMAN> RESTORE TABLESPACE TEST_DATA;
RMAN> RECOVER TABLESPACE TEST_DATA;
SQL> ALTER TABLESPACE TEST_DATA ONLINE;
All commands ran successfully with no error. It pulled the dbf file from the backup file and restored it (Or so it seemed). the RECOVER command did go pretty quick. It ran for about 1 second and completed. This was kind of odd. When I opened the tablespace I noticed that the table was not recovered.
The tablespace data was recovered when I did a full database restore and recover though. I dont want to take down the whole database just to restore a tablespace.
Am I doing it wrong? Your help is appreciated.Hello;
I would expect something more like this :
recover tablespace ABLOCK

Restore Database .ndf files
I have a backup (.BAK file) which has bunch of .ndf files. I want to restore it on a database which has only .mdf and .ldf files. How to restore it? I am new to Sql server 2008 R2 and never restored .bak file which contains .ndf files...
Thanks in advance...
Thank you,I don't want to eliminate them. I want to restore them as well but don't know how to. Also the database where I want to restore the .bak only have .mdf and .ldf files.
The target database is completely overwritten during the restore. The number and size of the files after the restore will be the same as the original. You can use the WITH MOVE and REPLACE options to relocate the files and replace the target
database:
RESTORE DATABASE TargetDatabase
FROM DISK='D:\Backups\SourceDatabase.bak'
WITH
MOVE 'SourceDatabase' TO 'E:\DataFiles\SourceDatabase.mdf'
,MOVE 'SourceDatabase_Data2' TO 'F:\DataFiles\SourceDatabase_Data2.ndf'
,MOVE 'SourceDatabase_Data3' TO 'G:\DataFiles\SourceDatabase_Data3.ndf'
,MOVE 'SourceDatabase_Log' TO 'L:\DataFiles\SourceDatabase_Log.ldf'
,REPLACE;
ALTER AUTHORIZATION ON DATABASE::TargetDatabase TO sa;

Unable to restore and recover my Database from RMAN Backup
Dear All,
Iam practicing RMAN in Windows environment.
My configurations are
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 1; # default
CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON; # default
CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK; # default
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON; # default
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 'F:\Backup\%F'; # default
CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET; # default
CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default

CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO 'E:\ORACLE\DATABASE\SNCFORCL.ORA';
CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT 'F:\Backup\%U.bak';
Then i took the RMAN backup, now iam shutdown my DB and removed one logfile..
then i tried to startup the DB but it is saying
ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 3 of thread 1
ORA-00312: online log 3 thread 1: 'E:\ORADATA\ORCL\REDO03.LOG'
So i tried to restore the Database with my rman backup
RMAN> restore database;
But i am unable to restore my logfile in the Datafiles location where as all other datafiles are restored but redo logfiles are not restored.
So, i am unable to recover my DB
Please tell me whether i am doing any mistake, what is the solution for my problem.
Thanks in advance
MahiAll you restored was your datafiles.
Now issue recover database and that will apply the archive logs.
This is in the oracle documentation.
"You must restore backups of these archived logs for recovery to proceed. You can restore either to the default or nondefault location. If you do not have backups, then you must performing incomplete recovery up to an SCN before the first missing redo log and open RESETLOGS."
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/osrecvry.htm
In this case after issuing restore database in RMAN, then issue this.
"Recover database"
It will then be an incomplete recovery. They should have been multiplexed. Did you restore your controlfile with this backup? You may have to issue an "Alter database open resetlogs;" -
Restore and recover Oracle 10g database from tape.
I have a very basic question for restore and recover Oracle 10g database. Our envirnment settings are:
Oracle 10g on Unix, daily database and archivelog backup to Vista NetBackup server. Retention policy is 2. Old backup files are copied from NetBackup server to the tape for record keeping.
I want to restore a database to a point in time. Because our retention policy is setup to 2. The backup files I need have been copied to the tape. So I should ask SYSTEM ADMIN to copy the backup files back to NetBackup server disk or I can ask him to copy backup files to the Unix server that host my Oracle 10g database. Then I can use Rman to do restore and recover. Is this doable? I know normal procedure is to copy backup files I need back to NetBackup server disk, not directly back to database server. Please put your comments here as early as better. I do appreciate your kind help.853153 wrote:

Are you using catalog or nocatalog?
If the backup information is out of retention, Catalog them again also in netbackup.
So that you can able to restore database directly without copying those files to host. -
Restoring and recovering datafiles in standby database
Hi,
oracle version : 8i(8.1.7.0.0)

I have scenerio where i lost some of the datafiles in standby database(physical standby) and i do have standby cold backup 3 months older since database size is 1TB is can i restore the the only lost files from cold backup and recover using archivelog files. since i only lost 4 data files of size 4gb each it will be faster compare to restoring the whole TB size database.
appreciated for valuable inputs.

P.S - I am able to query and fetch the results for "select * from master.dbo.spt_values;"

But the table name is not visible under System databases--> master --> Tables --> System Tables in my DESTINATION database alone.
Thanks,
DeeJay007Hi,
Thanks for your response :). When I tried to attach the the database (.mdf and .ldf) and create a new database in DESTINATION server, it works fine. Only using "Copy database wizard" I face this problem. I am attempting this functionality from
the SQL Server 2012 instance
The Instances are not in same version. Find the specific details below for @@Version.
SOURCE Server Instance
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP3) - 10.0.5500.0 (X64)

DESTINATION Server Instance
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3000.0 (X64)

When you use the copy database functionality, your database gets upgraded to match the destination server version. The database cannot be downgraded, which is fine in your case. It could be a bug in the upgrade process between these two specific sql server
versions though.
Can you make a test with another destination instance, with the same version as the original destination (2012 SP1) just to rule out the possibility of system database corruption?
Does this happen with only a single database, or does the wizzard fail for any database you try to copy?
I have the "u_tables.sql" file which has the scripts for some master database tables. In the process of trying to rebuild the system database and if I lose the master DB contents, will executing the "u_tables.sql" be sufficient to restore
the details?? Many DB's are available in the server, so the risk is very high.
No. However, your application databases won't be affected. You'll lose all your server objects, including but not limited to logins, linked servers, backup triggers, server roles, etc. You'll also lose the contents of the msdb database (jobs, database mail
configurations, backup history, maintenance plans, etc). Please refer to the article I sent you for more information. It contains safety instructions on how to backup most of these objects.
Try to do the tests I suggested above before rebuilding your system databases.
Is there any restrictions for "Copy database wizard" which I am missing here?
No I dont think so. Based on the information you provided, it should be working. -
Hi,
I try learn how restore database.
Case:
Database is in archivelog mode and hot backup runs every night at 2:00am by cron job and backup.sh
I drop table using
drop table mytbl purge;So I can not get it from recyclebin.
Or I do some other mistake and I like restore whole database to state where it was in certain time
I have try read all kind documents and experiment how to do this without luck.
If someone could give me steps to do restore
Thanks advance

file names had previously been matching perfectly. The first occurance of this problem occured on 03/13/2014 at 5:00 AM MST. The error generated by the job was:

Executed as user: OurDomain\OurNetworkServiceLogin. Restore Mohave Prod to Mohave_93_DEV - ERROR: 3013 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 01000] (Message 50000). The step succeeded.Olaf:
Thanks for your reply. Sorry, my bad. I inadvertently copied wrong [name] form the msdb.dbo.backupset. On 3/13 and 3/14, the two file names did not match. In trying to select another example to show you this morning, I found that the names are now matching!
What I was doing was to create dynamic t-sql to retrieve the latest prod backup of the database, and then restore it with move to the development server. This is an ad-hoc job that the developers can run by themselves whenever they require a refresh. Unfortunately,
we only keep 3 days worth of backups for these databases, so the original disk file I was trying to use to restore no longer exists. Researching the original error, one of the error descriptions was that the restore could not find the file requested.
I thought this very strange since I get the file name directly from the backupset table. Further research did indeed show that the file names were different, but unfortunately, I failed to save the details of the file names. Anyway, in looking for a new example
to show you this morning, I have found that the file names are indeed matching exactly again. If this error pops up again, I will be sure to save all details and re-post.
Thanks, regards and best wishes to you and yours, -
SAP failed to start after database restore
SAP Version: SAP R/3 Enterprise
Database: MSSQL Server 2000
OS: Windows
We had performed a database restore from the backup which was taken before the system rebuilt. The SAP failed to bring up as the dispatcher stopped due to the work processes died. After the database restore, we had run the SAP Tools for MSSQL Server but still did not manage to bring up the system. Please find below the logs for the developer trace and the dev_w0.

I've managed to bring up the SAP now after changing some parameters
in the instance profile that are pointing to D:\. It's now up and
running, but the dispatcher is in yellow colour. The status
is "Running, Message Server connection ok, Dialog Queue time: 0.00 sec,
J2EE status info unavailable". I did not select Java during the
installation. Only ABAP was selected.
I am able to login to the R/3 system now. I notice that there are some
parameters in the instance profile are related to the Java like
rdisp/j2ee_start, login/accept_sso2_ticket and etc. Is it possible that
database backup that I used to restore was from a ABAP + JAVA system?
Please see below for the dev_disp

9i Database - Restore to a new host, validating RMAN backup
Hi all,
I could use your help, for any of you who remember how to do this in 9i. On one of my production databases, running 9.2.0.6.0, I have a nightly RMAN script that writes the backup to a large shared drive (this is on a Windows 2003 server). This backup uses a recovery catalog.
I have a test server, and I want to try and restore last night's backup on this test server, without touching the recovery catalog - purely as a means to go through the recovery process, and to validate our backups (this is also for SOX compliance, as this database is for the financial system).
I have been looking through the 9i documentation, and was hoping to have some detailed steps here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96566/rcmrecov.htm#1007514
but I don't see a lot of information there.
I believe that this should be a rather simple process. On the test server, I have installed the 9.2.0.6 software, and created the Oracle Service using the same name as production. The test server can also see the shared drive that houses the backup files from the production system.
Here are the steps I am trying, please let me know what I need to change. Thanks all!!

RMAN-06172: no autobackup found or specified handle is not a valid copy or pieceMany thanks for the helpful replies so far, Hemant!! I had to shelve this issue for a few days, back at it today.
I have made some progress, I am able to restore the control file now - what I am doing, is copying the autobackup controlfile from the network drive over onto the server locally (E:\oracle\ora92\database\BACKUPCONTROL.ORA), then I am able to restore the controlfile with this:
restore controlfile from 'E:\oracle\ora92\database\BACKUPCONTROL.ORA';
And I can see that it restores all 3 of my controlfiles.
The next step would be to do the database restore. When I issue the "restore database;" command, I can see that it lists out all of the datafiles that it needs to restore from the backup set, but then after about a minute, I see these error messages pop up:
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

ORA-27067: skgfdisp: size of buffer is invalid

When I looked up those last 2 error codes on Metalink, I see document ID 213858.1 that looks like this normally happens when the backup piece that has Read-Only permissions. I have confirmed that the backup files on the network drive are not Read-Only, I have full Read/Write privileges on them. So once again, I am stumped.
Any thoughts? I might go ahead and log an SR for this, to try and get it resolved.

Error while restoring database with different name on subscriber
Hi all,
I am using merge replication in sql server 2008R2. Yesterday I wanted to create a test environment, so
I did:
1. on publisher I restored from backup production db with another name ( lets call it TEST and new files
.mdf, .ldf and no switch KEEP_REPLICATION). After this step original replication between production
dbs worked fine.
2. on subscriber I did the same: restore as new db TEST with new
files .mdf, .ldf and no switch KEEP_REPLICATION.
Unfortunately I noticed, that after second step replication stopped. SQL agent replication job on Subscriber
is gone.
Why restoring db with new name did affect original replication?
Finally the most important: replication was set up by external company and I have to bring it to live now
but I don't know this subject so good. How can I do it?
Assuming, that there is no data change on subscriber in replicated tables is it enough when I select ‘reinitialize’
on Publisher and Subscriber?
Thanks in advance
ArturHello,
Sorry for late response, but I was out of the office during last week.
Regarding problem 1: restoring replication. I contacted guy who made originally our replication and he recreated subscription agent. So this is solved.
problem 2: why did it happen?
Lydia, in link which you provided I found only info about restoring db in replication, but I didn't want to restore replication.
I checked SQL Server and Server Agent logs and there were no entries on that time. The only entries are regarding db restoring. Below:
09/11/2014 12:45:59,Backup,Unknown,Database was restored: Database: Logik_ATData_TEST<c/> creation date(time): 2012/04/27(13:55:41)<c/> first LSN: 21392:66:267<c/> last LSN: 21392:227:1<c/> number of dump devices: 1<c/> device information: (FILE=1<c/> TYPE=DISK: {'D:\MSSQLBackup\Dzienny\Logik_ATData_PROD\Logik_ATData_PROD_backup_2014_09_10_231001_6391536.bak'}). 09/11/2014 12:44:51,spid72,Unknown,Starting up database 'Logik_ATData_TEST'.
In Windows application log there were also no other entries, besides these above.
I also could not check job history, because the job was gone in SSMS jobs list, while the subscription was present in SSMS Replication with info, that last successful synchronization was at 12:42 (there is a 5 min. sync period).
I also don't understand how the job was deleted, because according this manual (http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1803/auto-alert-for-sql-agent-jobs-when-they-are-enabled-or-disabled/) I have 2 triggers in sysjobs table and every time, when
job is deleted/disabled I got @ notification. In this case I got no @.
My SQL Server version:
Product_Version Product_Level Edition
10.50.2550.0 SP1 Standard Edition (64-bit)
Any idea what happened?
Thanks,

Unable to restore database using RMAN in oracle 10g
Hi Everyone!!!!!!!
I have following scenario. In which I don't want to drop newly created tablespace (test). So, let me know how to restore database from existing backup without dropping new tablespace and taking new backup?
1. I took database backup as
RMAN > backup database;
2. Create one tablespace "test"
3. Then I tried to restore database as (In mount mode)
RMAN > restore database
4. But I can't restore database. Even I tried after taking "test" tablespace offline , It returns error as follow
ORA-01119: error in creating database file 'D:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\TESTCAT\TEST.DBF'
ORA-27038: created file already exists
OSD-04010: <create> option specified, file already exists
Please suggest me step/way so that I can restore database without taking new backup or dropping new tablespace (test).........Hello;
Rename this datafile :
D:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\TESTCAT\TEST.DBF
Then try the restore again.
If this isn't a test database stop and think about how you will recover if this does not work. That is how will you recover from the recover if it goes bad?
Best Regards

Restore database to another host - I have only rman backup files
Hi all,
The PC where Oracle was installed is crashed.
I have only the RMAN backup pieces in other computer.
I want to restore/recover this RMAN backup to other PC.
I know the commands, restore database, recover database,
but I've always used these commands with rman into existing rman
user. Now, I don't have anything. I have only the RMAN backup files.
How can I restore/recover database to other PC using these files?
The steps are? create other database, create a rman user, register
the rman backup files in this new rman, and restore these files
in this new database already created with the same name?
thank you!!!!XM wrote:
