Error in XML generate

Question

Hi i am getting following error while generating XML
Error details:
Error report:
ORA-19202: Error occurred in XML processing
ORA-00904: "K_001": invalid identifier

my code is :

V_xmldata CLOB;
v_id VARCHAR2(50):='K_001';
BEGIN
SELECT '<ns0:Employee_Details xmlns:ns0="http://BizTalk_Server_Project1.Employee_DesirableFormat">'
||chr(10)||dbms_xmlgen.getxmltype('SELECT xmlforest(emp_id, name, dept_id, xmlforest(add1,add2) AS Address,city) As Employees
FROM EMPLOYEES WHERE id ='||v_id).EXTRACT('ROWSET/ROW/*') || '</ns0:Employee_Details>' AS XML
INTO v_xmldata
from Dual;
INSERT INTO xmldata VALUES(V_xmldata);
END;
it genereated proper out put when id is number datatype.....but my id column is VARCHAR2...so giving me error. also tell me if any one of column holds null value then tag should be there
help me out ...Thanks in advance

Hi,
It could have worked if v_id had been a bind variable, but here you're concatenating strings so when parsing occurs K_001 is interpreted as an identifier and not a string value.
Solution is to enclose your string between additional quotes, either in the declaration section or in the query :
v_id VARCHAR2(50):='''K_001'''; or
'SELECT xmlforest(emp_id, name, dept_id, xmlforest(add1,add2) AS Address,city) As Employees
FROM EMPLOYEES WHERE id = ''' || v_id || ''''That being said, your method to produce the XML content is a little overcomplicated and not really "elegant" : context switch, no bind variable, string concatenation with xmltype ...
I'm pretty sure it can be done with a single SELECT from your base table using solely SQL/XML functions.
Care to share some sample data and required output?
