------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi
TNS-00525: Insufficient privilege for operationplease make sure of this
Cause
1) Ensure that /tmp/.oracle or /var/tmp/.oracle directory exists.
2) Confirm that the user who is trying to start the listener has adequate read and write permissions on the directory specified above. The permissions should be 777.
3) If the /tmp directory has reached full capacity, this would cause the listener to fail to write the socket files.
Solution
To implement the solution, please use the following example:
1. cd /var/tmp
2. Check the whether the .oracle directory exists:
cd .oracle
3. If the directory does not exist, request the System Administrator create the directory and set the ownership as root:root with the permissions set to 01777
mkdir /var/tmp/.oracle
chmod 01777 /var/tmp/.oracle
chown root /var/tmp/.oracle
chgrp root /var/tmp/.oracle
4. Next try starting the TNS Listener using the ‘lsnrctl start <listener_name>’ command.

Obviously there is no handler for XE service.
Maybe you changed hostname(this should be "Owner-PC") ?
Try to manually start/stop db and see if there are some errors:
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    startup
    shutdown immediate
If after that you still can't find cause, try to ask on oracle db forum.

    Hi,
Did you check whether the windows service for listener is up and running? if not please start it, by typing "services.msc" in run window and start the service. Then check whether you have listener.ora file in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin and also post listener.ora contents.

  • 11gR2 Install Error, Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it

    Hi all,
I'm currently studying towards my OCA, I've passed 1z0-051 (SQL Fundementals I), and now I'm moving onto 1z0-052 (Admin 1).
Im really having trouble creating a database in Oracle 11g R2 Enterprise Edition. I install the software no problem. Then I create a database, and during the creation I have to createsa listener which uses TCP (default port:1521) and IPC. whilst creating the database I get the following error
'Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it. Start the Listener and register database service and run EM configuration Assistant again.'
Now, before you lynch me, I have searched this forum for answer to this for a day and a half. I've also tried google, i just can't find a answer that sorts out my problem. please assist me.
I'm running on Windows 7 Professional (32bit) (I have previously tried on the 64 bit version with teh same results).

    SOLVED!
OK all solved now, thanks to the link to Ed Stevens website that Baris posted (mucho respect )
Seems that like Barus said I was not using Dynamic Registration, which means that I would need to manua
ly update the listerner.ora file. On top of that it seems that for some my tnsnames.ora wasn't resolving mt database name so the tnsping wasfailing.
What I did to solve the name resolution problem
    1. Opened the
Network Configuration Assistant and saw that my listener didnt have my DB registered with it. So I added it. What this horrible GUI tool does is update the tnsnames and listener.ora files for you. So once that was done I went to the command prompt and did ;'tnsping <dn name> and hey presto it was getting a nice response.
Then I re-ran my DB Configuration Assistant and tried to reconfigure my database. However it aing failed and gave me the same message that I was originally getting about the DB Service not being registered etc..the lister status still said that same thing:
    Services Summary...
    Service "CLRExtProc" has 1 instance(s).
Instance "CLRExtProc", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
the 'unknown' means that the DB  didnt tell the listener that it was there but instead the listener is in manual mode and will just use the configuration in the listener.ora to know where the DB is.
So then I followed the steps on the ED Stevens website (follow the link). He has steps which show how to enable Dynanmic registration so that your DB regusters itself with the listener. In a nutshell, he states that he listener actually doesnt need the listerner.ora if using dynamic registration. I shutdown the DB, stopped the listener then I renamed the lsitener.ora to listerner.old, then started the lietener and checked the status and it said 'the listener supports no service' I then started the DB and, then resched teh listener status, it then read 'status: READY'... hooray!, the DB had dynamically registered itself with the listener. I then was able to successfully start up and run Enterprise Manager.
Thanks for all your help Baris, and Ed Steven website.
I know more now than when I started so I'm happy.
    Thanks.

    Hello,s
First of all, check the status of all resources by using crs_stat -t
Check if your VIP resource is indeed up and running on the node where you want to start the listener. As listener is depending upon this VIP address, it is needed to be up on the node where listener is configured. If this is the case then relocate the vip back to the system by using either of the following commands
    1. crs_relocate <vip_resource_name>
    OR
    2. srvctl start nodeapps -n <hostname>
listener should be automatically up once crs relocates back the vip to the system.
If vip is already running fine on the system then check for your listener configuration as you check in normal systems.

  • Cannot listen on public address

    Hello,
I'm setting a Oracle Database inside an Amazon EC2 instance and I want it to be accessible from the outside. However, when I'm starting the listener, I've got this error :
    Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=test-db)(PORT=1521)))
    TNS-12543: TNS:destination host unreachable
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    TNS-00513: Destination host unreachable
Linux Error: 113: No route to host
In my hosts file, I've added this line to correctly resolve the "test-db" host (x.x.x.x is the public IP of my EC2 instance). Pinging "test-db" does work properly
    x.x.x.x test-db.fic-test-lab.com test-db
And finally, my listener.ora file looks like this:
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = test-db)(PORT = 1521))
    SID_LIST_LISTENER=
    (SID_LIST=
    (SID_DESC=
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME=orcl)
    (ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1)
    (SID_NAME=orcl)
If I change "test-db" to "127.0.0.1", everything works perfectly, but the database is obviously not accessible from the outside. I can't find what step I'm missing...
    Thanks,
    jtellier

damorgan - I'm simply trying to set up a database that would be publicly accessible. The database version is 11gR2.
It was my understanding that if the address specified in listener.ora was 127.0.0.1, the listener would only accept connections from localhost, not from the outside. And that's what seems to be happening for me.
Pradeepan - When starting the listener without any listener.ora, I've got this error:
    Listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=test-db.fic-test-lab.com)(PORT=1521)))
    Connecting to (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=)(PORT=1521))
    TNS-12543: TNS:destination host unreachable
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    TNS-00513: Destination host unreachable
Linux Error: 113: No route to host
sb92075 - Yes, it would make sense... ifconfig shows that eth0 has a 10. address and it doesn't show any interface with the public address. After reading the page posted by jgarry regarding EC2 instances addressing, I understand that the public IP is only used by NAT and is not known by the OS. So yeah, the cause seems to be the OS...
jgarry - Yes, it's the same address.
So now, if I understand the problem correctly with the additional info in the page posted by jgarry, the problem is that I can't put the public address in my listener.ora file because the OS doesn't know about this address. On the other hand, if the listener listen on localhost, it wont accept connections from the outside. Does that make sense?
    Thanks,

  • Help: Error message "ORA-12560 TNS:Protocol Adapter Error "

I tried to install Oracle 8i EE version 8.1.7 on Windows 2000. Everything is OK until the installation proceeded to installing "Oracle Database Configuration Assistant". At that point, I got an error message "ORA-12560 TNS:Protocol Adapter Error (network not loaded)". I looked up the error message. The cause of the error said: "This error occurs when the SQL*Net driver cannot find the JSB driver because you may have either forgotten to load the JSB driver (for instance MFTP) or used an incorrect TCP_VENDOR key (for example, TCP_VENDOR=NOVLWP).". And the suggested action said: "Load the JSB driver or use the correct TCP_VENDOR key.". I am using a standalone PC with Windows 2000 at home, and the PC does not connect to any network(except that I can dialup to internet via modem). What should I do? I can't understand the error message. Any expert to help me overcome the error?

  • How to resolve error 'The DPMRA service terminated with service-specific error Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted'

One of my exchange 2010 servers dpm agent is give the following error when the dpmra service attempts to start.
The DPMRA service terminated with service-specific error Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted..
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the agent but this does not resolve the issue
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    William Hickson

    Hi
Something has probably changed on the protected server side that affects the DPM agent. In some cases the DCOM configuration could change. Look at this blogpost and verify your DPMRA DCOM object.
    http://robertanddpm.blogspot.com/2010/08/dpm-ra-rights.html
If this doesn't do the trick try reinstall the agent.

  • Error starting HTTP-Server: Address in use: JVM_Bind

I installed J2ee version of Oracle9iAS R2 for windows. When I start my application server, I always get the error "Error starting HTTP-Server: Address in use: JVM_Bind". In the previous version, if I met this message, I can change the port number in "http-web-site.xml", but now, no matter what port number I changed, I always get this error message.
Could anybody please help me with this issue?
Can Oracle provides a tool that can automatically free the port?
    Thanks, Jessie

If you are getting this error while starting the Oracle9iAS by using the NT services or using command line (dcmctl) then there is a port conflict for the HTTP Server. You can go the EM Website and select HTTP Server ->Server properties and select the port# for the HTTP Server.
OC4J is configured to listen for AJP requests only and the ports are dynamically assigned. The port ranges can be specified : OC4J Instance -> Server Properties
