11gR2 Install Error, Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it
Hi all,
I'm currently studying towards my OCA, I've passed 1z0-051 (SQL Fundementals I), and now I'm moving onto 1z0-052 (Admin 1).
Im really having trouble creating a database in Oracle 11g R2 Enterprise Edition. I install the software no problem. Then I create a database, and during the creation I have to createsa listener which uses TCP (default port:1521) and IPC. whilst creating the database I get the following error
'Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it. Start the Listener and register database service and run EM configuration Assistant again.'
Now, before you lynch me, I have searched this forum for answer to this for a day and a half. I've also tried google, i just can't find a answer that sorts out my problem. please assist me.
I'm running on Windows 7 Professional (32bit) (I have previously tried on the 64 bit version with teh same results).

I can login as sys into my database through sqlplus, so it seems the database is up and running, it just seems to be a listener problem maybe??
Many thanks for any assistance that you give. I'm learning so be gentle...
DamienSOLVED!
OK all solved now, thanks to the link to Ed Stevens website that Baris posted (mucho respect )
Seems that like Barus said I was not using Dynamic Registration, which means that I would need to manua
ly update the listerner.ora file. On top of that it seems that for some my tnsnames.ora wasn't resolving mt database name so the tnsping wasfailing.
What I did to solve the name resolution problem
1. Opened the
Network Configuration Assistant and saw that my listener didnt have my DB registered with it. So I added it. What this horrible GUI tool does is update the tnsnames and listener.ora files for you. So once that was done I went to the command prompt and did ;'tnsping <dn name> and hey presto it was getting a nice response.
Then I re-ran my DB Configuration Assistant and tried to reconfigure my database. However it aing failed and gave me the same message that I was originally getting about the DB Service not being registered etc..the lister status still said that same thing:
Services Summary...
Service "CLRExtProc" has 1 instance(s).
Instance "CLRExtProc", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
the 'unknown' means that the DB didnt tell the listener that it was there but instead the listener is in manual mode and will just use the configuration in the listener.ora to know where the DB is.
So then I followed the steps on the ED Stevens website (follow the link). He has steps which show how to enable Dynanmic registration so that your DB regusters itself with the listener. In a nutshell, he states that he listener actually doesnt need the listerner.ora if using dynamic registration. I shutdown the DB, stopped the listener then I renamed the lsitener.ora to listerner.old, then started the lietener and checked the status and it said 'the listener supports no service' I then started the DB and, then resched teh listener status, it then read 'status: READY'... hooray!, the DB had dynamically registered itself with the listener. I then was able to successfully start up and run Enterprise Manager.
Thanks for all your help Baris, and Ed Steven website.
I know more now than when I started so I'm happy.
Thanks. -

GaganHello,s
First of all, check the status of all resources by using crs_stat -t
Check if your VIP resource is indeed up and running on the node where you want to start the listener. As listener is depending upon this VIP address, it is needed to be up on the node where listener is configured. If this is the case then relocate the vip back to the system by using either of the following commands
1. crs_relocate <vip_resource_name>
OR
2. srvctl start nodeapps -n <hostname>
listener should be automatically up once crs relocates back the vip to the system.
If vip is already running fine on the system then check for your listener configuration as you check in normal systems.

TESTOJMS reports Error listening to 'SCOTT.TestQueue'
Hi all,
In my search to find sample code that demonstrates MDB via AQ I found TestOJMS but have run up against problem after problem.
I am receiving the error below while using 9iDB R1 and R2 with OC4J Developer's Preview. Has anyone seen this error before and resolved it? I can SELECT against the queue (select * from testqueuetable) that returns rows corresponding to the messages. I installed using the installation doc - exactly. I'm stumped.

I had verified that data-sources.xml had the correct connection information but had neglected to consider orion_application.xml - which caused the problem. I install doc didn't mention orion_application.xml. Could you tell me how this file is used?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hi
TNS-00525: Insufficient privilege for operationplease make sure of this
Cause
1) Ensure that /tmp/.oracle or /var/tmp/.oracle directory exists.
2) Confirm that the user who is trying to start the listener has adequate read and write permissions on the directory specified above. The permissions should be 777.
3) If the /tmp directory has reached full capacity, this would cause the listener to fail to write the socket files.
Solution
To implement the solution, please use the following example:
1. cd /var/tmp
2. Check the whether the .oracle directory exists:
cd .oracle
3. If the directory does not exist, request the System Administrator create the directory and set the ownership as root:root with the permissions set to 01777
mkdir /var/tmp/.oracle
chmod 01777 /var/tmp/.oracle
chown root /var/tmp/.oracle
chgrp root /var/tmp/.oracle
4. Next try starting the TNS Listener using the ‘lsnrctl start <listener_name>’ command. -
hey guys,
I need a little help with a transformer. Has anybody used an error Listener with a transformer before.
i would need a little example if possible.

Now to resolve this what i already tried are :
I change JAVA_HOME and PATH to jdk6 which came with web logic installer
Location is at :
JAVA_HOME : C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_29
PATH : C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_29\bin
The above dose not include any space between path
I ran the startWebLogic.cmd and got same error
After that I also added
CLASSPATH : C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_29\lib\tool.jar;C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\server\lib\weblogic.jar;C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdk160_29\bin
WL_HOME: C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3
I ran the startWebLogic.cmd and got same error
I also used earlier path which I used with eclipse when I was working on other java development.
JAVA_HOME : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_21
PATH : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_21\bin
I ran the startWebLogic.cmd and got same error
Then I also gave PATH: C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3\server\lib (including the existing one using ; )
I ran the startWebLogic.cmd and got same error
Now may be there is a file called setSOADomainEnv.cmd in
< C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\soa_div_domain\bin\ setSOADomainEnv.cmd>
That include some values for memory set :
set JAVA_OPTIONS=%JAVA_OPTIONS%
set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m –Xmx512m
set PORT_MEM_ARGS=-Xms512m –Xmx768m
if "%JAVA_VENDOR%" == "Oracle" goto OracleJVM
set DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS=%DEFAULT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=768m
set PORT_MEM_ARGS=%PORT_MEM_ARGS% -XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=768m
now as I change the red highlighted value to 512 value because I have less memory resource and I checked in installation documentation to change the above red highlighted value to 512 original is 1024 which is too high and it was crating problem and showing memory space problem so I change it to 512 and now I am not getting that memory space problem error but may be the above error is related with change value in setSOADomainEnv.cmd file or not
Following are my domain, weblogic and soa home directory path and all these path are exactly what it suppose to be according to Oracle Installation Documentation:
WebLogic :
C:\Oracle\Middleware\wlserver_10.3
C:\Oracle\Middleware\coherence_3.7
C:\Oracle\Middleware\oepe_11.1.1.8.0
SOA Oracle Home Directory :
C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_SOA1
OSB Home Location :
C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_OSB1
Domain name : soa_div_domain
Domain Location : C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains
Application Location : C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\applications
Domain Location: C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\soa_div_domain
form here i am trying to start weblogic : C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\soa_div_domain\bin\startWebLogic.cmd
Please tell me any body want more details.

I have versions 11.1.1.7.0 and 12c installed and am using Oracle 11g Express on a Windows 7 laptop. Both versions worked fine and then suddenly stopped. I have looked thru all the threads and still cannot figure this out. I have not changed anything recently.

Obviously there is no handler for XE service.
Maybe you changed hostname(this should be "Owner-PC") ?
Try to manually start/stop db and see if there are some errors:
sqlplus / as sysdba
startup
shutdown immediate
If after that you still can't find cause, try to ask on oracle db forum.

Error: Listener returned the following Message: 404 Not Found
Hello...I am new to Oracle, and when navigating through Portal it gives me this 404 error message. If possible I need to know where it stems from and how to resolve it.
Please assist.
Thanks in advance.
BenFco. Javier Pozo, from the bug info you provide I assume you are running a version of Portal 9.0.2.x. After having a quick look at the patches you mention I see that patch 2943209 seems to make changes to the WWPOB_PAGE package
As far as your language install commands, the first one looks fine and would have installed language 'e' (spanish I think) in both portal and single sign-on server. So I'm not sure why you ran it a second time to re-install language 'e' into single sign-on server only, but I don't think it would break anything.
I would recommend checking that all your db packages are valid and making aure you didn;t recieve any errors in applying all the actions you listed. If this doesn;t fix the problem then go back to your backup which you would have taken before applying these patches and re-apply them one by one, checling at each stage to see if your Portal is still OK.
Otherwise you should call Oracle Suport and log a TAR as I assume you have access to Oracle support and they are who told you to apply these patches.
Cheers,
Mick. -
Hi All,
I am using oracle 11g client library on Linux 64bit machine and trying to connect to oracle database using jdbc thin driver.
The url format what I am trying to use is:
jdbc:oracle:thin:@IP address:port:service_name
When service_name = orcl : I am able to connect with the above syntax.
But when the service_name is having . e.g service_name = orcl.177.39.45, with the above format I get the above error.
If I change the URL syntax to following, it works
jdbc:oracle:thin:@IP address:port/service_name
But both seems to be valid syntax.
So I would like to undestand the reason behind the same.
When service_name is having ".", why ":" does not work and "/" works and when the service_name is without " ." , 1st format works.
Is there any specific reason behind same?
Please let me know,
Thanks,
AaratiHello,
as per the suggetion, I replaced the URL in the format
URL=jdbc:oracle:thin:@15.154.47.235:1521/ORCL
original URL :
URL=jdbc:oracle:thin:@15.154.47.235:1521:ORCL
With this I was able to access the main page and was not getting database access.
But when I tried to perform some operations say list the submitted jobs, our application internally contacts Oracle database and gets the information stored in the database.
its not able to get and it throws exception.
So is there any reason behind this?

Error listening to Queue carnot Queue
I get the following error in my application.log and do not really know, what to do with it:

Anybody an idea?
cheers,
KlausHi Klaus
We had the same error as you have.
After a lot of troubles we are now able to run IBMs MQSeries with OC4J v. 9.0.3.0.0
Here is an overview of our configuration (on Windows 2000)
Added the following lines to C:\OC4J\j2ee\home\config\application.xml
This is to use connect to MQSeries with a file based JNDI. We created the file .bindings in C:\JNDI with IBMs JMSAdmin tool.
<resource-provider
class="com.evermind.server.deployment.ContextScanningResourceProvider"
name="MQSeries">
<description> MQSeries </description>
<property name="java.naming.factory.initial" value="com.sun.jndi.fscontext.RefFSContextFactory"> </property>
<property name="java.naming.provider.url" value="file:/C:/JNDI"> </property>
</resource-provider>
We copied the following files from MQSeries to C:\OC4J\j2ee\home\lib
com.ibm.mq.jar
com.ibm.mqjms.jar
com.ibm.mqbind.jar
mqji.properties
fscontext.jar
providerutil.jar
Added the following line to C:\OC4J\j2ee\home\config\server.xml
<library path="../lib" />
This points to C:\OC4J\j2ee\home\lib where our MQSeries .jar files are located.
In line 176 in com.evermind.server.jms.OrionServerSessionPool.class (located in OC4J.jar) we changed the following lines:
((AQjmsSession)new_session).setCloseCheckInterval(2);
new_consumer = ((QueueSession)new_session).createReceiver((Queue)destination, messageSelector);
((AQjmsQueueReceiver)new_consumer).setNavigationMode(1);
new_connection.start();
to this:
new_consumer = ((QueueSession)new_session).createReceiver((Queue)destination, messageSelector);
new_connection.start();
The reason to this, is that it looks like OC4J do not accept other queue system than AQ. If we dont change those lines, we get the following error:
java.lang.InstantiationException: Error: com.evermind.server.jms.EvermindQueueSession at com.evermind.server.jms.OrionServerSessionPool.getServerSessionFull(OrionServerSessionPool.java:377)
at com.evermind.server.ejb.MessageDrivenHome.run(MessageDrivenHome.java:769)
at com.evermind.util.ThreadPoolThread.run(ThreadPoolThread.java:66)
In the MDB sample (C:\OC4J\j2ee\home\demo\mdb) we changed the following (ivtTCF, ivtQCF, ivtT and ivtQ are MQSeries factories and connections):
