Error: ORA-01918

Hi,
I have a table: Role.This role table has rolenumber, rolename and rolerank.
Rolenumber Rolename Rolerank
1 Admin 1
2 Datamanager 2
3 Consultant 3
4 Fulltime 4
I have another table: user.
This table has main field userid followed by other user information.
I have another table: userrole.
This table has fields: userid, createdby,createddate,rolenumber
The requirement is :
Admin : delete and convert existing users to Datamanager.
Consultant : delete and convert existing users to Data Entry.
Full Time : delete and convert existing users to Full Access.
As the Data Entry and Full Access roles are not available in the role table, i created two new role names through insert statements.Now the role table looks as follows:
Rolenumber Rolename Rolerank
1 Admin 1
2 Datamanager 2
3 Consultant 3
4 Fulltime 4
5 Data Entry 5
6 Full Access 6
Then with the update statements, I updated all existing consultant users to Data Entry and all existing Full Time users to Full Access.
If I want to create a new userid, I need to login as datamanager and create a new userid.So I created a new userid for example as Naina with the role as Data Entry.
Now the userrole table looks as follows:
userid createdby createddate rolenumber
Naina datamanager 11/07/07 5
This userid appears in the "List of existing users" screen in the datamanager account.We have two modes: add mode and edit mode.
while creating this userid in the "Create User Screen" during add mode, we have one field Password.I entered " aaaaaa" in that field. In the edit mode of that userid, we have one field change password. This change passowrd allows the user to create a new password for that userid. When I changed the password for Naina and click save button at the bottom of the screen during edit mode, it displayed
the error message : ORA-01918: user 'NAINA' does not exist.
I executed select statement on both tables:user and userrole. i could get the output of those two select statements because this userid information is being stored in the database.
Could any one tell how I can resolve this error: "ORA-01918".
Thanks,
Prathima

No one can possibly help you nor do I think they should.
First you are a student as is obvious from the exercise.
Second you seem to be using a front-end tool of which we have no knowledge.
Third you posted no DDL or DML
Fourth you posted no version
We have absolutely no idea what does or does not happen when you push some button.
I would suggest you discuss this with your teacher.

• Hi, i am new to oracle, SQL DEVELOPER:- ERROR:- ORA-01918

Hi,
I am new to oracle, and i have installed Oracle database 12c enterprise edition, and oracle jdeveloper 12c for adf web application development,
I created a database and a new connection in it using sql developer, however while trying to create new user with the name db1 by right clicking on other users. by following the instructions in oracle documentation site. i get the error that new user db1 doesnt exist, and gives error:- ORA-01981. i even tried by changing the username as i thought may be it doesnt support alphanumeric name, but still i get the same error.
So please tell me how to create a new user. is there any way to get out of this ora:-01918, as i googled and it says this is a bug.
My os is win 7 x64(amd processor ).
Thank you
Baldwin

A new user (called a schema in Oracle) is created using the CREATE USER SQL command. You need to be signed in as the SYS schema/user or as a schema that has been granted the rights to create schemas.
12c database comes in two basic flavours. Container database (containing pluggable databases). Standard database. If connected to a container database, you cannot create standard user schemas - you need to be connected to a pluggable database.
Also, your question has no relevance to either the SQL or PL/SQL languages - the subject matter of this forum. Please repost your question to a more appropriate forum dealing with SQL-Developer issues.

Somebody can help me in this case !!!
Desiree

Hi Desiree,
basically the other two commenters were right, the user
SAPTVD does not exist on the DB. Actually that's correct, since you're installing a 4.6B system, where the SAP Schemauser ALWAYS is names SAPR3 and never SAP<SID>.
So the question is, why is it tried to use the SAP<SID> user here?
I guess you're using a wrong version of the sapdba_role script or something.
Anyhow, to get around such issues, there's a note:
#134592 - Importing the SAPDBA role ( sapdba_role.sql).
Use it and the issue will be solved.

• IMPDP Errors ORA-39083 ORA-01918

Oracle Database 10.2
OS IBM AIX
Hi
I have to do one datapump import into one database. The source database is different.
The dumpfile contains 3 different schemas. And I need to import into one schema with a different name.
For example, Export dump contains AB, CD and EF.
I need to import only EF user into new database and it should become MN.
I have used remap_schema=EF:MN
The following is the import parfile.
userid='/ as sysdba'
directory=DF_DUMP
dumpfile=AMRC%U.dmp
remap_schema=EF:MN
remap_tablespace=RM100:TS100
remap_tablespace=DATA100:DATA300
job_name=MNIMPORT
logfile=MNIMPORT.log
parallel=4
I have started the import. But I see the below errors
ORA-39083: Object type TABLE failed to create with error:
ORA-01918: user 'AB' does not exist
Failing sql is:
CREATE TABLE
After this, import of MN has begun.
How to resolve the below error ? What is the reason for this error ? What changes are needed in parfile ?

Three errors
- You didn't look up the error messages in the online documentation.
- impdp by default imports the entire file (Full=y). You need the SCHEMAS= clause
- expdp and impdp shouldn't be run as SYS
All in all you could have found the answer very easily in the online documentation.
Please avoid asking redundant questions in the future.

• How to avoid ORA-01918 and ORA-00959 while impoting a dump file

While importing a dump file, I encountered the ora-01918 (user does not exist) and ora-00959 (tablespace does not exist) errors. This has occurred due to the fact that the user and tablespace mentioned in the dump file did not exist in my database.
Is there a way to avoid these errors via specifying some values to IMP parameters?
Appreciate help.

Appreciate help.If you import with FULL=Y parameter (and of course if you exported with FULL=Y), imp will create tablespace and users.
imp full=y file=xxxxxxxxxx.dmpOn the other hand, it could be better to create tablespaces manually (according to your disk structure)
Btw, this is wrong forum. :)

For #5, not Windows, ConfigMgr 2012 R2. Anything before ConfigMgr 2012 R2 is not supported for the 8.1 ADK.
For the permissions, what accounts are you setting this for. In general, if the share is on the same server, Everyone Full or Read on the Share and System Full or Read on the NTFS should work.
For the error message, it looks like you are trying to import an OS Image and not an OS Install Package. OS images use a WIM file and OS Install Packages use the entire set of source files from the media. For OS images, you must thus explicitly point it
to a specific WIM file.

• Error ORA-12560 prompts when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager

Hi all,
I am a newbie to Oracle.
Just installed the Oracle 9i Database Enterprise Edition (9.0.1) into Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. Problem is encountered when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager Standalone mode using either system/oracle or scott/tiger as credentials. Error "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error" prompts.
I tried to check with some configuration and see whether the services are started. Services of "OracleOraHome90TNSListener" and "OracleServiceORCL" have been started and the database exists in the dedicated directory. Environment variables of "ORACLE_HOME" and "ORACLE_SID" have been added manually as the SID is set to orcl, which I just follow what the instruction manual has stated. Moreover, I can't get access using command prompt typing "svrmgrl"; error returned stating " 'svrmgrl' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
Another information is that there is no domain set in my server. Just a server with a name being assigned in a workgroup.
Hence, would you mind please advice me what to do in order to get access into the Enterprise Manager? It's quite an urgent task.
A million thx in advance!
Best Regards,
Karen

Hi Jigneshrp,
Thanks for your reply.
It is checked that the listener is running and TNS name service exists. Following your advice, I did create a new listener and another name service and use them, but the same error turns out when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager again.
Additional information to take note for is that while reconfiguring the existing listener or creating a new listener, a mesage prompts stating "The information provided for this listener is currently in use by other software on this computer. You can proceed with the configuration as it is, but it will not be possible to start this listener until the conflict is resolved. Would you like to continue with the continue with the configuration anyway? Yes/No".
As for the reconfiguration or the new creation of TNS names service, when I am trying to test for the connection, the results in the details pane states that "Connecting... ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error. The test did not succeed...."
Would you mind pls advice me on these?
Furthermore, there exist 2 questions I am wondering is that it is stated in the instruction manual that prior to the installation, a static IP should be specified for it instead of the DHCP one; hence, I wanna ask after the complete insallation, is it that the server should be running in the network, i.e. allow it to get connected with the outside network?
2nd question is that can Oracle 9i Database Server Standard Edition (9.0.1) be installed under a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and just a Window XP Professional?
Thanks for your reply.
Best Regards,
Karen

• Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12154

Hello,
I try to install php 5.1.2 on a WIN2003 server and IIS6 with the OCi8 extension without success from several days.
On my server I've a 920 oracle client and the 10.1 instant client, I copy the tnsnames.ora in the instant client's directory.
I've declare many environnement variables :
- NLS_LANG : AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
- TNS_ADMIN : E:\...\oracle\instantclient_10_1
- ORA_NLS33 : E:\..\oracle\920\ocommon\nls\ADMIN\DATA
With the php command line the oci_connect function correctly works : the php command line use the instant client's tnsnames.ora. I can query with success my database.
When I try to load a web php script (the same as the php command line script) I have the following error " Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12154" ( oci_connect( $user , $pass, $sid ) . The $sid variable have the value of an alias declared in the tnsnames.ora.
If I replace the sid's alias by something like this " (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=xx.xx.xx.xx)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=xx)" in the oci_connect function, I have another error : Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12705.
A web page with the phpinfo function displays the following messages about oci8 extension : It seems to be correct.
oci8
OCI8 Support enabled
Revision $Revision: 1.269.2.8 $
Active Persistent Connections 0
Active Connections 0
Temporary Lob support enabled
Collections support enabled
Do you have any idea ? Thanks a lot

The web server is not seeing the Oracle environment correctly. You need to set PATH to the instant client libraries. ORA_NLS33 is not used for Oracle 10g clients. Perhaps you have some library conflict with two versions of Oracle on the machine?

• Import Export Error (ORA-06502)

All,
We are trying to migrate the code from windows 2000 HTMLDB 1.5.0.00.33 to solaris 9 HTMLDB 1.5.0.00.33 by using the export/import function. After migration, one report went wrong with the following message.
report error:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
The tables definition are identical and there's no data in the production table. When we try to reduce the query length from 3000 to 2500 characters, the error message disappears on production.
Is there any HTMLDB global variable controls the maximum length of the report "region source"?
Any response would be appreciate.
Thanks,
Tony

Scott,
Thanks for the response. We've applied HTMLDB version 1.5.1.00.12 on both develop and production servers yesterday but the ORA-06502 error still persist. We've also tried to use package and "pl/sql return sql" instead of a long sql query but received the same result.
The solaris instance is using "Western European ISO-8859-1" as the file character set and the windows is using "Western European Windows 1252". Is there any easy way to change the DAD character set on the production box?
Thanks,
Tony

• Report error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string b

I have a form which uses a customer form/report, drop downs etc..

...Execute Statement: begin begin SELECT distinct initcap(RTRIM (LTRIM (e.surname, ' *0123456789-/:.?,'), ' *0123456789-/:.?,') || ', ' || RTRIM (LTRIM (e.first_name, ' *0123456789-/:.?,'), ' *0123456789-/:.?,' )) empname, e.ID bulk collect into wwv_flow_utilities.g_display,wwv_flow_utilities.g_value FROM dms.dms_employees@dmsprd e, dms.dms_employee_contracts@dmsprd ec WHERE e.ID = ec.emp_id and e.surname like '%%' AND :p75_date BETWEEN ec.start_date AND NVL (ec.end_date, :p75_date) AND e.brh_id = 3654 ORDER BY 1; end; end;
Then says
"report error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small"
Any Ideas?

A select list is limited in size. I am not sure what the limit is but that is definitelly the case.The maximum size for the HTML generated for a select list is 32K.
86 options sounds on the low side to be hitting that limit, but there are other concerns to this as well. Scrolling through hundreds/thousands of options in a select list is a pain for users, and huge select lists produce bloated pages that impact load times and network bandwidth. That list of around 200 countries you find on many sites is about the sensible maximum length for a select list.
You should use popups.Indeed.

• Report error:ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number

The oracle application express environment is created by installing the HTTP Server on the windows server and the application express 3.2.1 components on the 11.1.0.7 oracle database on UNIX. The installation is successfully and have not seen any issues during the installation. After completing all the steps, when tried to login and click the application builder or workspace components, I see the error message
report error:ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number.
This error message is seen on most of the pages when trying to accessed and not able to understand the reasons behind it. Its a brand new environment setup and not even presented to developers to test it.
Below error message is always seen when trying to access most of the components like application builder, schema comparison and some other tabs. Please advice

I think its better you use APEX 4.x version ratherthan using old version.
You will get more features and some bug fixes and also it's easy for you to get some help when you need.

• Report error:ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string bu

We face the above error in HTMLDB (APEX) application Ver 3.1.0. This occurs when we try to display more number of rows/records in drop-down list (LOV in tabular forms). We are able to display 200 records in LOV. When the list of records exceeds 230, we face the below error
report error:ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
the values listed in LOV are from tables (one of the columns in table)
Could anyone give us a solution?

Hi
As you are using a tabular form, you could actually do the following:
1 - In the tabular form column's attributes, set the following:
Display as: Select List (query based on LOV)
Display extra values: Yes
List of values definition: SELECT null d, null r FROM DUAL
2 - Add a new page item and set it to generate your select list
3 - Create an HTML region with no template and use the following for its source:
<script type="text/javascript">
function loadList(c, l)
var s = document.getElementsByName(c);
var lItem = document.getElementById(l);
var lLength = lItem.options.length;
var k;
var j;
var x = lItem.innerHTML;
var v;
var o;
var z;
for (k = 0; k < s.length; k++)
z = s[k];
v = z.value;
z.options.length = 0;
for (j = 0; j < lLength; j++)
o = new Option()
o.value = lItem[j].value;
o.text = lItem[j].text;
z.options[j] = o;
z.value = v;
if (z.selectedIndex == -1)
z.selectedIndex = 0;
loadList("f05", "P1_MGR");
</script>
(Change "f05" and "P1_MGR" as appropriate to your column and your new page item respectively)
Now, when you load the page, the select list contains a null entry plus the entry already on the database. The javascript kicks in automatically, loops through every entry in the "f05" column, copies the existing value, replaces the select list with the new page item version and sets its value to the copied value.
Your new page item could be in a DIV tag that has a style of "display:none" to hide it from view.
