Error page template

Hi
We've recently upgraded to APEX 4.2.1 from APEX 4.1.1 and are updating our themes to take advantage of some of the new features.
Previously we've used an error page template to display a nice error page when something has gone wrong. An easy way for us to test this, as most things are handled nicely within the application, is to manipulate the URL to go to a page that doesn't exist. In 4.1.1 this took us to a nice looking page, which used our template, saying that the page could not be found and to contact the application administrator. However in 4.2.1 it doesn't use the template and takes us to the standard error page which has no styling.
I've tried searching for changes in this version that might cause this, but haven't found anything to explain it. The theme is still setup to use the Error Page template we've created which has the Error Page Template field entered.
Does anyone know why it would stop using our error page template? And what we could do to correct it?
Many thanks for your time,
Sara

SaraWhat I have found is that even though you define an error page template it will only be used by the errors that are set to display on error page. Eg. Validation error set to 'On Error Page'
As the help text says:
<ul>Specifies a page template to use for errors that display on a separate page as opposed to those that display inline. Leave this attribute blank if you do not wish to use a template designed to display errors.</ul>
But if you use an error handling function you can probably decide this dynamically based on your page or error description etc in PL/SQL.
But I never thought this will be used in case you try to access an invalid page because it is an 404 error

True the main method does not throw any exceptions, that's because there is no higher level to throw them to (actually it implicitly throws any uncaught exceptions to the JVM). That does not mean that you can't write your own try catch block around the code in the main method.

  • Editing error pages?

    hi all,
i was just curious if it's possible to change the layout of error pages like the one we get when authorization scheme returns false. also, when we get a page not found error
    Edited:
also, instead of getting the error page for authorization failure, is it possible to just redirect the user to the login page or maybe just kill the session?
    thanks.

You can look at the error page template used by the application (a section of the default page template) and you can make changes to that.
You can also redirect to any page from within any PL/SQL in your application, including authorization schemes, page processes, etc. Sometimes you need to do this first:
    apex_application.g_unrecoverable_error := true;
...after which you can use owa_util.redirect_url.
    ...just kill the session?
The only action you can take that would do that (whatever it means) is to go through the application's logout URL which will unset the session cookie. It will also remove the session from the internal sessions table when the application is run outside the development environment (by end users, for example).

  • Change Image in bulidin error page

How can I change the oracle image in the buildin error page.
    thanks
    Thorsten

    Thorsten,
Not sure which page you mean, but if you look in the application attributes, the default error page template is identified. Then edit that named error page template, maybe the image is identified there. If not, please let us know more info.

  • ! Double Error Messages in error page !

I got two identical Oracle error messages for "ORA-02292: integrity constraint (xxx) violated " in HTMLDB error page which is using printer-friendly template. I know that I can customize the first error message by changing the "Error Page Template Control" section in the template. I have no idea where does the second message come from. I've even tried a blank template but still got two error messages. Please help me on this urgent issue. Any thoughts will be appreciate. Thank you!

    Sergio and Scott,
Thanks for your prompt responses. After I reviewed the HTML source generated from HTMLDB, I found out that the second error message was generated in between the template "Body" and "Footer". Now, the trick I use to bypass the second error message is to add "<!--" at the end of "Body" and "-->" at the beginning of "Footer"....Voila!!!Here comes the nice and clean error message page....

  • Can we customize Error Page?

    Hi,
I have a validation which returns error message on Error Page. But default error page does not look well.
Is it possible to change look and feel of Error Page?

Yes - there is an error page template. There's a useful thread on how to customise it here:

  • Page 0 and Error Page

Does Page 0 get executed when the error page template gets called? It doesn't appear to me. Can somebody confirm this?
    Thanks!

Quoc - Page 0 processes and computations fire only when page 0 is called directly (rare) or when other actual pages in your application are rendered. The same conditions apply to the rendering of page 0 items. When formatted error messages are sent to the browser under the control of the application's error page template, this is not a case of rendering an actual page in the application. So the answer is no.

    Hi Christian!
I already opened a TAR. As (according to the Portal docs) exporting Portal applications to future versions is not supported, waiting for another Portal release would mean starting our applications from the scratch. For this reason, bugfixes in future releases are of no really use in our case, and we definitely HAVE to find a solution for this quite crucial problem.
    But thanks for this information.

  • JSF Page Template error in Visual Editor

    Hi!
I've developed a jsp page template with an attribute called BackingBean. This attribute is a mypackage.view.BackingBeanTemplate class and it works perfectly when I open the template in visual editor.
When I create a new JSF page using my jsf page template and fill attribute BackingBean with a class that extends mypackage.view.BackingBeanTemplate, the visual editor send me the following error in Messages - Log:
WARNING: A problem was encountered executing the page. Using fallback rendering.
javax.el.PropertyNotFoundException: The class 'oracle.adf.view.rich.component.fragment.UIXPageTemplate$AttrMap' does not have the property 'BackingBean'.
When I run my jsf it works perfectly. Just in visual editor it doesn't render my page.
Can I use only primitive types and wrappers (String, Boolean, Integer, etc) in jsf template pages?
    Anybody could help me?
    Thanks
    Gleber

    Hi,
actually i used a template that references a type DCIteratorBinding using EL and this works fine. So there is no limitation in the type you pass as an argument. My assumption is that the IDE doesn't instantiate super classes, which is why the property is not found. Does the subclass call super() in its constructor? Anyway, feel free to file a bug

Modifying the error page is not supported in the current release of Portal (9.0.2). You will be able to do this in the upcoming 9.0.2.6 release, planned for the end of May.

  • A method to create completely customized photo book page templates from scratch in Lightroom 5

I was able to successfully create completely customized Lightroom 5 page templates (including altering the number of, positions, and sizes of pictures) by making edits to the templatePages.lua file(s) in the Lightroom directory tree.  I have never heard of the LUA file format before, but it is ASCII and looks somewhat like XML, so it was fairly easy to decipher.  Here is a high-level description of how I did it.  This applies to Lightroom 5 on Windows 7.  If this doesn't make any sense to you, then don't try it - you're likely in over your head.  Although my description is brief and lacking in detail, it should enable someone who is capable of handling this to figure it out with a little of careful trial and error.  Do this at your own risk - if you screw-up your installation, catalog, or computer, it's your own fault.  It all worked great for me.
First, open the "<lightroom 5 install directory>\Templates\Layout Templates" folder.  Then navigate to the template set that contains the template you would like to use as a starting point for the new template.  For example, "12x12-blurb\clean12x12".  Make a back-up copy of the templatePages.lua file in case you mess something up and want to revert.
There will be a bunch of .jpg files in this directory that each contain a preview image of the layout that carries the same name as the .jpg file.  Find the one that you would like to use as a starting point.  Take note of the name of the file, which is probably something similar to "page_26_preview.jpg".   Duplicate the file and rename it to something unique, such as "dummy_preview.jpg".  It's just temporary, so it doesn't matter what name you pick, provided it is a legal file name with no spaces.
Next, open the templatePages.lua file in a text editor.  I suggest using one that can automatically recognize and format ULA (such as Notepad++, which is open source and free to use).  Then search the file for the unique portion of the file name you took note of earlier, such as "page_26".  It will point you to a section in the LUA file that describes that particular template.  Carefully copy that entire section, including a balanced number of brackets (starting with the two brackets and commas before "children" and ending with the one bracket and comma after the "title" line.  Paste the copied text into the end of the file on a new line immediately following the bracket and comma after the "title" field for the last page template section (right near the end of the file).  Change the "previewName" field to the name of the preview file copy that you created ("dummy_preview.jpg" for me) and the "name" field to the name of the new template you're creating ("dummy" for me, since it is just temporary).  Next change at least one of the hex characters in the "pageID" field such that the new template will have a unique page identifier.
Now you can make edits to the photo and text fields included in the new section, using other templates in the template file as examples.  "x" and "y" fields are coordinates (in pixels) for the bottom-left corner of the picture or text field, "height" and "width" are the width of the field in pixels.  The fields should be mostly self-explanatory, but make sure that the "photoindex" fields are filled-in starting from 1 to N, where N is the number of pictures in the template, with no duplicates or gaps.  They do not need to be in order.  Treat the "textIndex" fields similarly for text fields.  If you want to add an additional picture or text field, simply copy the section describing a picture or text field from another template and paste it, carefully, into the new template that you are creating.
Once you are done, save the file (you may get interference from Windows UAC, in which case save the file elsewhere and the move it back to the correct directory).  Then open Lightroom.  Create a new photobook, and choose the new template for one of the pages, remembering that the preview image will look like the JPG that you copied.  Voila!  If you didn't screw anything up, you should see a page based on your new template.  Then right-click the page and select "Save as custom page", which will cause a fresh preview file to be created for your new template and your template to be copied to the "custom pages" section of the template menu.  The new section you added to the "templatePages.lua" and the "dummy" preview file can now be deleted, since they are no longer needed.  I save them so that I may simply overwrite them the next time I need to create a customized template.
Enjoy, and please share any clarifications, corrections, or enhancements to my process.

This post was great!  Thank you so much.  But I am hoping you know one more thing related to this.  In the "transform" section of the definition (where the x/y coordinates are set along with height and width) there is an option called "angle".  I was hoping that changing this value would allow me to offset the angle of the picture.  However, if I put any value there other than 0 the template becomes unusable.
Do you happen to know what this option does?
I haven't looked into the files, so this is just a guess based on how some graphic applications work. It's common to think of rotating a shape as pivoting around a center point, but It's possible that the file sets a value for the rotation point not at the center. In some graphics applications, you can set a shape's pivot at any corner or in the middle of any side, of the rectangle that contains the whole shape.
So, your value may be rotating the shape around a pivot that moves the shape into some area that upsets the behavior of other shapes. Just a thought.

Peter's point is a good one.  I would also assume that the "angle" property allows you to rotate an image, but I haven't tried it myself.  One thing to investigate - are there any page templates included in LR that have image placeholders that are at an angle (I don't recall any, off-hand)?  If so, looking at the associated .lua file could provide insight into how an angled image placeholder should be described.

  • Adding Saved Searches task flow to a Page Template

I am trying to add the Spaces "Saved Searches" task flow to my custom page template. I have tried a few different approaches and none seem to be working.
First, I tried simply dragging and dropping the task flow from JDeveloper's Resource Palette into my template. JDeveloper created added the following to my template source code:
    +<af:region value="#{bindings.allsavedsearches1.regionModel}" id="pt_r1"/>+
After uploading the changes to Spaces, there seemed to be no change to the rendered template.
Second, I tried to simply add the task flow to a page in my test space via composer. However, as soon as I click the "Add" button next to the Saved Searches task flow, the page goes blank (white screen of death) and the following message shows up in the spaces error logs:
    javax.servlet.ServletException: com.sun.el.parser.ParseException: Encountered "\'" at line 1, column 65.
Finally, I looked at how the out of the box templates implement the saved searches functionality. It appears that the saved searches use a custom folder in the Default Navigation Model. I looked at the source in the Default Navigation Model and found the following node:
    +<customFolder factoryClass="oracle.webcenter.search.view.rc.SearchServiceContextFactory" id="savedSearchesFolder" visible="true">+
    +<attributes resourceBundle="oracle.webcenter.webcenterapp.resource.WebCenterResourceBundle">+
    +<attribute attributeId="Description" isKey="true" resourceBundle="oracle.webcenter.webcenterapp.resource.WebCenterResourceBundle" value="NAV_APPLICATIONS_CUST_FOLDER_SEARCHES.DESCRIPTION"/>+
    +<attribute attributeId="IconURI" value="/adf/webcenter/foldersavedsearches_qualifier.png"/>+
    +<attribute attributeId="Title" isKey="true" resourceBundle="oracle.webcenter.webcenterapp.resource.WebCenterResourceBundle" value="NAV_APPLICATIONS_CUST_FOLDER_SEARCHES.TITLE"/>+
    +<attribute attributeId="WEBCENTER_SERVICE_ID" value="oracle.webcenter.search"/>+
    +</attributes>+
    +</customFolder>+
I copied the entire node and put it in my navigation model. Upon rendering the template, I can see the new node in the navigation but when I click on it, nothing happens.
Can someone please tell me if I am on the right track with any of these three approaches? Or where to look to diagnose the issues I am running into?
    Thanks,
    Joe

UPDATE: I updated the "activation" property in the page def for the allsavedsearches task flow to be "deferred". Now I am getting an ADF popup menu with two menu items: "My Searches" and "Other Members" but clicking on the items does not trigger anything...
Any thoughts? What additional information would be helpful for analyzing this issue?

I have build another template, just 1 template.
When I used it at the first time, no any strange behavior occur.
After ... (I don't exactly when), it give me the same view in my designer.
Then I force to use my first tempate (template1 which used template0 inside), I cannot run my application at all.
After wait several minutes, I found error log in my log messages.
*#### Server Instance DefaultServer could not be started: Server Instance was terminated.*
Above the message, I found another error messages:

Is there anyone that can help me to find out why this error occured?

    Hi...
    Thanks for asking....
As I put in my post before, I include template0 in my template1, as seen in template1 (AHM001):
    <af:pageTemplateDef var="attrs">
    *<af:pageTemplate viewId="/template/AHM000.jspx">*
I use AHM000 inside AHM001. I use this approach to build many template based on one basic design.
Actually, I don't think the problem is in page template usage because as I submitted paralel to Metalink, I've already not called template0 in template1 but I copy template0's contents to template1.
Unfortunately, page designer show small view and below error messages still occured.

  • Preference or Page Item in Page Template

    Hi,
I'm trying to place dynamic header and footer text on my pages. I am trying to include a variable reference in the Body section of my page template. I can reference Static Substitution strings, but I cannot get either preferences or page items to display. How do I get data driven values into the page template? Thanks!

    Bill,
Sorry for the misdirection. I made the popular error of thinking that I had knowledge which I did not, in fact, possess.
    I adjusted your page so that it might work the way you intend. It turns out that it is not possible to reference preferences using &ITEM_NAME. notation, only page/application items and static substitution strings. Setting and getting named preferences must be done with the API as illustrated in the new page process:  htmldb_util.set_preference(p_preference => 'IIR_CLASS',p_value => 'TESTING99');
:IIR_CLASS := htmldb_util.get_preference(p_preference => 'IIR_CLASS');... although items can be sourced from named preferences and those items themselves can have "User" persistence just like preferences.

  • Theme 25 error page not rendering all CSS/JS - bug?

    Hi,
I'm using theme 25 and my theme error page is "No Tabs - No Sidebar", Application Express 4.2.1.00.08
If I receive an error in my application, my error page has no style.
When I compare a page displaying normally and the error page (with the same template) I notice file references are missing from both the JS & CSS "File URLs" attributes.
The template shows JS & CSS respectively - all are included when rendering a normal page. The variables are application level substitution strings.

    Hi Scott,
thanks for providing the test case. Your problem is similar to bug 16342445 - page rendering error may result in developer toolbar links not working (Bug report - Developer toolbar links
which we have already fixed in 5.0. I have now backported the fix to our next Patch Set (4.2.2)
As a workaround for the time being you could duplicate the CSS and JavaScript files into the "Error Template" property.
