Error reported after Exchange 2013 Setup (initialize-ExchangeUniversalGroups)
My Exchange 2013 setup reported the error below. Just wondering if someone has experienced this and how easy it was to fix.
Error:

Thanks for replying.
My domain is actually routable (I just renamed it thinking that perhaps its more secure to withhold the info).
I had previously installed Es2013 and had to delete the VM. So this is a re-install on the Active Directory. I'm wondering if there isn't something in the "deleted folder" that is causing hassles.

Setup Error 1603 with Exchange 2013 incl. SP1 on Windows Server 2012 R2
Hello all,
i've started the installation of a new Exchange 2013 with SP1 in a Windows 2012 R2 environment. New AD, no Exchange previously installed. Exchange ISO from
Volume Licensing Service Center (Filename: SW_DVD9_Exchange_Svr_2013w_SP1_MultiLang_Std_Ent_MLF_X19-35118.iso)
All the prerequisites are ok, installed also the “Unified Communications Managed API (UCMA) 4.0″ as requested.
Setup.exe i've started with "run as administrator" and all went well, until Step 11 of 15 (Mailbox role:Mailbox service).
Setup stopped and gives an error:
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
Install-MsiPackage `
-PackagePath ([System.IO.Path]::Combine($RoleLanguagePacksPath, "Setup\ServerRoles\UnifiedMessaging\MSSpeech_SR_TELE.nb-NO.msi")) `

-LogFile ([System.IO.Path]::Combine($RoleSetupLoggingPath, "InstallSpeech-nb-NO.msilog"))

required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.'.".
Exchange ECP is not working (HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found), EMS (Shell) is working - if i try a get-mailboxserver it gives me the correct servername.
Exchange Services are running:

So, how to proceed ? Try to download a new ISO for Exchange 2013 incl. SP1 and run the setup again ?
What happens to the existing (corrupt) installation of the exchange which is not working ?
Thanks for your help
BrunoHi,
From the error message, the cabinet file 'EngineInstanceData.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. I'm afraid you have to download a new ISO for Exchange 2013 incl. SP1 and run the setup again.
If it still doesn't work, I recommend you remove the failed Exchange server installation, then re-install Exchange server.
Best regards,
Belinda

This seems to be occurring with all users (have tested a few, all display the same exact error message).
When I click on "Message Delivery Report" in Outlook 2010 or 2013, it points me to the ECP and displays this message "Warning The status for the recipient can't be determined because of a temporary error. Please try again later." I'm
not sure which log files to look at. The last time I remember it worked was before I applied SP1, I think CU3.
Our environment is two servers running Exchange Server 2013 Std. SP1 (847.32) in a DAG.
Thanks.Hi,
From the error description, I would like to clarify the following thing:
Delivery Reports is a message tracking tool that you can use to search for delivery status on email messages sent to or from users in your organization's address book, with a certain subject. In Exchange 2013, you can track messages for up to 14 days after
they were sent or received. Please make sure the message you are tracking isn't older than 14 days.
Here is an article for your reference:
Track messages with delivery reports

Hope it helps.

EXCHANGE 2013 - setup.exe schema prep error
Trying to install exchange 2013 sp1 (downloaded from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41994).
on 2012 r2 server.
After I run (with domain admins affcourse): Setup.exe /prepareschema /IAcceptExchangeserverlicenseterms
I recieve an error that user is not a member of schema admins and enterprise admins but I have double checked that account is in those groups. So, what am I missing there?
bostjancHi Joe,
since we can make sure the user account is a member of Domain Admins, Schema Admins and Enterprise Admins groups, please also add the user to be a member of Organization Management group, don’t
just add the Domain admin to the Organization Management group, please directly add the account to the member of Organization Management group.
Then check if the account inherit permission form its parent level. To do this, please refer to the following steps:
Open ADUC, select “View->Advanced Features”;
Navigate to the user account you used, check its
Properties;
On the
Security tab, click Advanced, please make sure the inherited permission is enabled in the lower left corner. If not, please click “Enable Inheritance” to enable it.
Then use this account to login the server;
Right click “Command Prompt” and choose “Run as administrator”, then navigate to the setup file location, try to prepare schema by command:
Setup.exe /prepareschema /IAcceptExchangeserverlicenseterms
6. If issue persists, please try Mavis’s suggestion to create a new user account, use above steps add the sufficient permission, then check the issue again.
Meanwhile, what do you mean by “single label domain”? Do we have a single domain and prepared DC/GC, or have parent/child domain configuration.

I was installing Exchange 2013 on Server 2012. The server is not a DC, but is a member of a domain with a 2008 R2 functional level, and I was logged in as a domain admin. There has never been an Exchange instance on this domain. I got past
the prerequisite checks, and the installer showed 15 steps, so I walked away. When I came back, I saw this:
Step 8 of 15: Mailbox role: Transport service

From the error description, I would like to clarify the following things:
1. Please ensure that IPv6 on the network adaptor is turned on.
2. Please check if the account that you used to install Exchange has necessary permissions to perform the installation.
3. Make sure that DNS is configured correctly.
Hope my clarification is helpful.
If there are any problems, please feel free to let me know.

Dear all
During install Exchange 2013 through Powershell on Server 2012 I got this error in Mailbox role: Client Access service :
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();

Any advice please !!I can't answer your question but I had a similar issue when I was trying to move our mailbox database off the C: drive. Our environment still has an Exchange 2007 server in it and when I was trying to move the database on the 2013 server, I would get
error messages saying the database does not exist. It seemed like it was trying to move the database on the 2007 server from the similar error messages that I was getting. To get around it, I deleted the database and created a new one on the drive
where we wanted it.
I discovered this when I was configuring the Antispam settings. I deleted our 2007 settings, added them to the 2013 shell, the settings appeared on our 2007 server. The shell on 2013 was making changes to 2007.
I'm not sure if there is a "Get|Set or New" command that I/we should be using when this happens. Or maybe my issues will be fixed if I just remove the Exchange 2007 server? I'm not ready to do that yet because I can't configure the spam filtering
on 2013 yet with its shell not being able to make the changes that we need.
I don't know if your environment is in coexistence mode like mine.
Hopefully someone else out there has an answer or can tell us when/how the shell can make the appropriate changes to the 2013 server. Does this happen after the 2007 server is removed? -
How to get a summarized mail traffic report in exchange 2013
Hi all
How to calculate the exchange 2013 SMTP mail traffic in terms of hour, day, month, top senders, largest message and top recipients list . Same time we would like to have those summarized mail traffic report for all the mailbox servers in the form of graphical
view as well as in a csv file ?
Please all of us share your thoughts and possibilities .
Regards
S.Nithyanandham
Thanks S.NithyanandhamYou may calculate hourly email traffic using "Message Tracking Logs and Log Parser".
I would like to refer you on this well explained article that will assist you step-wise to implement in your working environment : http://exchangeserverpro.com/calculate-hourly-email-traffic-using-message-tracking-log-parser/
Moreover, if you wish to achieve this goal automatically, you may also consider on this automated application (http://www.exchangereports.net/) that provides a deep-view of email traffic report in real time at
granular level. -
Error report after trying to download an iPad app on mobile device (iPad)
When I try to download an App I get an error report like "downloading of 7 apps like "---" is not possible at the moment. Please try again later"
Sorry - i'm German but I tried to translate it.
So sometimes when I'm trying to download an App I get an error report like "you can't download this at the moment because this app is changed at the moment. Please try again later"
After getting this report, in the other report the number ist changed so there would be an "8"
Doesn't matter if it's possible to retry to download these 8 apps, but I don't want to get this message every time I'm downloading a new app.
Thank you for reading this and please try to help me ;)Check this iPhone related thread. Pretty sure it's the same symptom

Which exchange 2013 setup file should I use ?
I am seeing exchange 2013 RTM setup file for download from microsoft, as well as exchange 2013 CU3 setup file. This is my first exchange 2013 box. which file should I use to install exchange ?
Anand_NHi,
For new installs you should usethe most current build, CU3: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41175
Cumulative Update builds are full Exchange server installers so there is no need to install RTM version and then apply CU.

my existing 2010 environment:
EXCH1 - datacenter 1
EXCH2 - datacenter 2
DAG, both Internet Facing.
Today I installed 3 Exchange 2013 CAS/Mail servers.
EXCH3 - datacenter 1
EXCH4 - datacenter 2
EXCH5 - DR site
I haven't setup mailboxes or anything yet, just external and internal URL's, a wildcard cert and internally OWA successfully proxy's via 2013 then redirect back to 2010 OWA as it should. All 3 2013 servers setup identical... :-)
However, and here is the problem - when EXCH5 is turned on users get prompted for the EXCH5 server cert, when I turn EXCH5 off they do not get prompted.
Any ideas where I should look?
info update -------------------------------------------
while the cert prompt is for the exch5 server cert when I view the cert its actually the correct wildcard public cert I'm using and want.
I have verified that all the virtual directories (via EAC) have the correct internal and external URL's and that the cert is bound to the SMTP and IIS services. One other clue, when I try to launch ecp from exch5 it redirects and logs me into OWA.
Not doing this on any other exch server.
open to suggestions :-)Hi,
According to your description, it’s wildcard certificate in your environment. And I recommend you check the Outlook provider configuration: get-outlookprovider |fl identity, CertPrincipalName
Additionally, I’d like to confirm the name in the security alert.
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

Large ETLTraces files after Exchange 2013 CU6
After installing Exchange 2013 CU6, you may notice the Exchange Drive is consumed a lot than before and the size is increasing rapidly. After troubleshooting, you may find everything is running properly and
there is no issues with your Exchange Server.
Then you need to check whether the files in the following location is the root cause:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Diagnostics\logfie
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Diagnostics\ETLTraces
(You may find log files like “DocumentProcessingTrace_XX.etl )
Prior to CU6, there is not ETLTrace folder listed in this location and there are log folders however the log file has files no exceeding 7 MB size.
Post upgrade, there comes the ETLTrace folder and the files in this folder are close to 50 MB and the log files folder have log files exceeding 50 MB size.
This is a designed behavior in Exchange CU6, if you have limited hard drive space, as a workaround solution, we can safely remove or move the location of these lo files:
Before doing the changes, please firstly stop the health monitoring service. To Change the Log File Path, the Registry Key value is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Search Foundation for Exchange\Diagnostics
To Change the ETLTrace path the registry Value is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\16.0\Search\Diagnostics\Tracing
Please click to vote if the post helps you. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.@Simon_Wu, I tried your solution. However after a couple of days the logs were moved back to the original, default location. It looks like the server has a process which checks for hacks and undoes any attempts to change the path.
Interestingly the altered Registry entries remained altered, however the files were switched back to the default location. It generates just over 1Gb of logs per day on a largely idling Exchange 2013 CU7 server with 350 mailboxes.
Go figure!
What I found to work consistently and reliably is to replace default folders with junction points to another folder on another drive.
I also found that these files are created by a process which runs under the System process (PID 4), therefore you'll need to restart the server in Safe Mode to replace the default folders with junction points. -
Greetings
Currently i am using Exchange 2007 setup (xyz.com) and it is not published to the internet i.e. only the Domain joined users have access to it and mx records are not hosted for xyz.com
And have hosted solution (abc.com)
Now, I am planning to upgrade the Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 infra. But here my requirement is to use abc.com as the email address domain.
My plan is to migrate and add abc.com in accepted domain. Please suggest if this can be achieved by doing so and if yes, what other changes i need to plan as i want to have the same email address domain (abc.com) having the virtual directories by the same
name (mail.abc.com)
Please provide yours inputs.
Thanks
K2Hi,
Thank you for your question.
By my understanding, you want to use Exchange 2013 with domain abc.com to replace domain xyz, right? If I misunderstand, please be free to let me know.
If that, we could refer to the following links to migrate Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 by crossing domains:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/35828bef-3eaa-4540-b2ef-0dc1da0d77ca/cross-forest-migration-from-exchange-2007-to-exchange-2013?forum=exchangesvrgeneral
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/ccfaf77e-ae0f-47ac-94c4-c122df3efdf0/exchange-2007-to-2013-migrationcoexistance?forum=exchangesvrgeneral
But we suggest you install Exchange 2010 in abc.com domain, then we perform cross domain migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010, then migrate to Exchange 2013.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Jim

RPC error when configuring Exchange 2013 servers in 2nd site
Hello. I'm running into an error when trying to configure any of my Exchange 2013 servers in my 2nd AD site. To get into the loop of what my server structure looks like, please check below:
Site 1 servers:
DC1 - Domain Controller
DC2 - Domain Controller
CAS1 - CAS server
CAS2 - CAS server
MBX1 - Mailbox server
MBX2 - Mailbox server
MATHAFTMG - TMG server
Site 2 servers:
CCCDC1 - Domain Controller
CCCDC2 - Domain Controller
CCCCAS1 - CAS server
CCCCAS2 - CAS server
CCCMBX1 - MBX server
CCCMBX2 - MBX server
CCCTMG - TMG server
Currently I have a site-to-site vpn connection between site 1 and site 2 TMG servers via Internet connection; I can access the servers of the other site perfectly (whether I am in Site 1 or Site 2).
All user mailboxes are currently in Site 1 MBX servers; when users are in Site 2, they connect to the CAS servers in Site 1 to access their mailboxes.
Many users will stay permanently in Site 2, so it makes sense to have Exchange servers in Site 2 to provide faster access to mailboxes. I created the Site 2 domain controllers, and made sure AD replication is working; and it is. I then added the MBX servers
and CAS servers in Site 2 in this order: CCCMBX1, then CCCCAS1, then CCCMBX2, then CCCCAS2.
All Exchange servers in Site 2 installed beautifully. But then I tried to access the servers via ECP to proceed with the configuration. In ECP, I click on the server link, and all Exchange servers in both sites appear. If I try to configure the virtual directories
of Site 1 CAS servers, no problem. But when I try to configure virtual directories of Site 2 CAS servers, I get this error message:
The task wasn't able to connect to IIS on the server 'CCCCAS1.domain.com'. Make sure that the server exists and can be reached from this computer: The RPC server is unavailable.
The virtual directories issue is just an example. Same thing happens if I try to configure Outlook Anywhere for Site 2 CAS servers.
Users connect to Site 1 CAS servers via mail.domain.com. I have the A record mail.domain.com pointing to the IP address of CAS1 server, and another A record mail.domain.com pointing to the IP address of CAS2 server. Not the best load balancing going on here,
but it works great with Exchange 2013.
From mail.domain.com I can access OWA and ECP internally and externally; no problems there. From ECP I can access and configure any Site 1 Exchange 2013 servers.
The only problem is when I access ECP to configure the Site 2 Exchange 2013 servers, I get the same error message:
The task wasn't able to connect to IIS on the server '<server name>.domain.com'. Make sure that the server exists and can be reached from this computer: The RPC server is unavailable.
Even if I try to access a Site 2 Exchange 2013 server via https://localhost/ecp to configure it, it get the same error message.
I updated all Exchange 2013 servers in both sites to CU2 v2 and rebooted the servers in the proper order; problem still there.
