  • Source DB on RAC, Archived Log Downstream Capture:Logs could not be shipped

    I don't have much experience in Oracle RAC.
    We are implementing Oracle Streams using Archived-Log Downstream capture. Source and Target DBs are 11gR2.
    The source DB is in RAC (uses scan listeners).
    To prevents, users from accessing the source DB, the DBA of the source DB shutdown the listener on port 1521 (changed the port number to 0000 in some file). There was one more listener on port 1523 that was up and running. We used port 1523 to create DB link between the 2 databases.
    But, because the listener on Port 1521 was down, the archived logs from the source DB could not be shipped to the shared rive. As per the source DB DBA, the two instances in RAC use this listener/port to communicate with each other.
    As such, when we ran DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM.CREATE_CAPTURE procedure from the target DB, the Logminer Data Dictionary that was extracted from the source DB to the Redo Logs was not avaialble to the target DB and the streams implementation failed.
    It seems that for the archived logs to ship from the source DB to the shared drive, we need the listener on the port 1521 up and running. (Correct me if I am wrong ).
    My question is:
    Is there a way to shutdown a listener to prevent users from accessing the DB and have another listsener up so that the archived logs can be shipped to the shared drive ? If so, can you please give the details/example ?
    We asked the same question to the DBA of the source DB and we were told that it could not be done.
    Thanks in advance.

    Make sure that the dblink "using" clause is referencing a service name that uses a listener that is up and operational. There is no requirement that the listener be on port 1521 for Streams or for shipping logs.
    Chapter 4 of the 2Day+ Data Replication and Integration manual has instructions for configuring downstream capture in Tutorial: Configuring Two-Database Replication with a Downstream Capture Process

  • RAC for downstreams capture process

    I have created a real-time downstreams capture process in a RAC to protect the process of any failure but I have some doubts about this:
    1- I need create the group of standby redo log for each instance in cluster or its shared for all ?
    2- if one instance goes down and we perform Redos sending from the source via the following service depicted in the source TNSNAME:
    RAC_STR=
    (DESCRIPTION=
    (ADDRESS_LIST=
    (ADDRESS=
    (PROTOCOL=TCP)
    (HOST=VIP-instance1)
    (PORT=1521)
    (ADDRESS=
    (PROTOCOL=TCP)
    (HOST=VIP-instance1)
    (PORT=1521)
    (CONNECT_DATA=
    (SERVICE_NAME=RAC-global_name)
    configured process will be able to continue capturing changes without data redo loss ?
    Appreciate any explanation.

    configured process will be able to continue capturing changes without data redo loss ?You will not expirience with data loss if one of RAC instances goes down - next one will overtake yours downstream capture process and continues to mine redo from source database. But you definitly need to correct your tnsnames, because it is pointing twice to the same RAC instance "VIP-instance1"
    The downstream capture on RAC unfortunatly has other problems, with I've already expirienced, but maybe it will not concern your configuration. The undocumented problems (or bugs which are open and not solved yet) are:
    1. if your RAC DB has the phys. standby than it can happened that it discontinue to register redo from upstream Streams database.
    2. if your RAC DB has both downstream and local capture then if more as 2 RAC instances are running, the local capture can't continue with current redolog (only after log switch)

  • CAPTURE process error - missing Archive log

    Hi -
    I am getting cannot open archived log 'xxxx.arc' message when I try to start a newly created capture process. The archive files have been moved by the DBAs.
    Is there a way to set the capture process to start from a new archive ?
    I tried
    exec DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM.ALTER_CAPTURE ( capture_name => 'STRMADMIN_SCH_CAPTURE', start_scn =>9668840362577);
    I got the new scn from DBMS_FLASHBACK.GET_SYSTEM_CHANGE_NUMBER();.
    But I still get the same error.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks,
    Sadeepa

    If you are on 9i, I know that trying to reset the scn that way won't work. You have to drop and recreate the capture process. You can leave all the rules and rulesets in place, but I think you have to prepare all of the tables again.

  • Downstream Capturing - Two Sources

    Hi
    We are planning to have two source databases and one consolidated/merge database.We are planning to use streams.I just configured downstream real time capture from one source database.
    As I can have only one real-time downstream capture process and one archive-log downstream capture process.
    How do I configure this archivelog-downstream capture process.Where in the code that differentiates between real time and archivelog.
    Thanks
    Sree

    You will find the steps for configuring downstream capture in the 11.2 Streams Replication Administrator's Guide towards the end of chapter 1. Here is the URL to the online doc section that gives examples of the source init.ora parameter log_arch_dest_2 for real-time mining and archive log mining:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10705/prep_rep.htm#i1014093
    In addition to the different log_arch_dest_* parameter settings between real-time and archive log mining, real-time mining requires standby logfiles at the downstream mining database. The instructions for that are also in the Streams Replication Administrator's Guide.
    Finally, the capture parameter DOWNSTREAM_REAL_TIME_MINE must be set to Y for real-time mining. The default is N for archive log mining.
    Chapter 2 in that same manual includes how to configure downstream capture using the MAINTAIN_SCHEMAS procedure

    well, your question was not clear, though, what I understand is, you want to move your DB from archivelog mode to NOARCHIVELOG mode, right?
    First of all, check whether do you have sufficient space to archiving on your hard-disk.
    Secondly, try the following, alter system archive log all;
    also, give the steps that you are implementing or implemented to switch from ARCHIVELOG TO NOARCHIVELOG.

    Data Guard 9i - Net8 Configuration for a 2-node database environment. [ID 175122.1
    has log_archive_dest_2='SERVICE=NODE2STDBY.ACME.COM'    so it connects to the service
    *However* the document "Introduction to Oracle 9i Data Guard Manager" from
    Data Guard 9i Introduction to Data Guard Manager GUI [ID 150217.1]
    page 59 has this : "The creation process will attempt to create a remote login password file for the standby database to
    enable remote connections to the database. (Note: A remote login password file is not necessary for
    Data Guard operation; it is only needed to allow remote connections to the database from clients,
    such as other Enterprise Manager tools.)"
    Similarly the section "3.2.6 Set Initialization Parameters on a Physical Standby Database"
    in the 9i DataGuard manual at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96653/create_ps.htm#62941
    only has
    remote_archive_enable=TRUE
    (this is an instance parameter)
    Similarly the section "5.8.2.1 Primary Database Initialization Parameters"
    at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96653/log_transport.htm#1067609
    explains
    The last parameter, REMOTE_ARCHIVE_ENABLE=SEND, allows the primary database to send redo data to the standby database, but prevents the primary database from receiving redo data from another system.
    with REMOTE_ARCHIVE_ENABLE=RECEIVE on the Standby
    to Receive and archive the incoming redo data from the primary database, but only while the database is running in the standby role
    So, I guess that REMOTE_ARCHIVE_ENABLE is the important one. Not REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE.
    In 9i : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96536/ch1174.htm#1023087
    In 10g it is deprecated : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams176.htm#sthref541 so that LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG is used.

  • Archive log gap is created is standby when ever audit trail is set to DB

    Hi
    I am a new dba. I am facing a problem at production server that whenever audit_trail parameter is set to db , archive log gap is created at the standby site.
    My database version is 10.2.0.4
    Os is windows 2003 R2
    Audit_trail parameter is set to db only in primary site, after setting the parameter as db when I bounced the database and switched the logfile , archive log gap is created in the standby..I am using LGWR mode of log transport.
    Is there any relation beteen audit_trail and log transport ?
    Please note that my archive log location of both the sites has sufficient disk space and the drive is working fine.Also my primary and standby is in WAN.
    Please help me in this.Any help will be highly appreciated.

    Are The SDU/TDU settings are configured in the Oracle Net files on both primary and standby ? I will see if I have an example.
    The parameters appear fine.
    There was an Oracle document 386417.1 on this, I have not double checked if its still available. ( CHECK - Oracle 9 but worth a galance )
    Will Check and post here.
    I have these listed too. ( Will check all three and see if they still exist )
    When to modify, when not to modify the Session data unit (SDU) [ID 99715.1] ( CHECK - still there but very old )
    SQL*Net Packet Sizes (SDU & TDU Parameters) [ID 44694.1] ( CHECK - Best by far WOULD REVIEW FIRST )
    Any chance your firewall limit the Packet size?

  • RMAN BACKUP hangs up on archive logs

    Hi,
    in 9i on Linux, My rman backup script is :
    RMAN> run {
    2> allocate channel t1 type disk;
    3> backup incremental level=0 format '/mnt/rman/MYDB/full_%d_%t_%s_%p' database;
    4> sql 'alter system switch logfile';
    5> backup format '/mnt/rman/MYDB/al_%d_%t_%s_%p'
    6> archivelog all delete input;
    7> backup format '/mnt/rman/MYDB/ctl_%d_%t_%s_%p' current controlfile;
    8> }
    It works well until :
    backup format '/mnt/rman/MYDB/al_%d_%t_%s_%p' archivelog all delete input;
    Here it hangs up (may be there are many many archive log files). What do you propose ? How can we ask RMAN just backup archive logs since some recent dates ? How can we delete most of ancient archive logs ? Since many times RMAN backup was in error then archive logs were not deleted. Now impossible to finish RMAN backup. Many thanks for your help.

    Hi,
    I launched following since last night but it is always waiting :
    RMAN> crosscheck archivelog all;
    allocated channel: ORA_DISK_1
    channel ORA_DISK_1: sid=110 devtype=DISK
    What can I do ? Any other way to say to RMAN that archived logs are not available ?
    Many thanks.

  • DRS archive log

    Hi,
    I have currently set two places to store my offline archive log. The configuration in oracle as below:
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1                              LOCATION=U:\oracle\SID\oraarch\SIDarch
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2                              SERVICE=SID_DR
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2  is pointing to our DRS server connected thru network.
    My questions:
    1- If there is a problem/failure on the network, what will happen for LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2? Will my primary database hangs due to this kind of configuration?
    2- What will happen if destination 2, the filesystem is full? Will I get the archive stuck problem?
    3- Is there any other setback configuring this way?
    Thanks in advance
    Best Regards.

    I'm getting this kind of error in my oracle trace file. Also, all the WP are hanging and nothing is being process. What is the cause of this? Is this something to LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2?

  • Errors in archive shipping in a standby environment 10.2.0.4

    Hi,
    I've problem with a standby configuration with real time apply. For month everything works fine, then one day the log shipping from primary to standby fails with error 3135 and sometimes with 1041 and 12571. There's no change in the configuration.
    OS: Win 2003 Server R2 64-bit on primary and standby
    Database: 10.2.0.4 on primary and standby

    LGWR: Error 1041 closing archivelog file 'lsg2'
    AUG-03-2009 08:44:33
    These errors appears only sometimes, for days everything works fine and then the error appears again. I've opened a metalink request 8 weeks ago but up to now there's no solution. This error affects my production environment, so I'll hope someone of you have an idea. Thanks for your help.
    Regards
    Markus

    Is any firewall exist between the two servers? If yes, then any recent change and if not then can you try setting up "USE_SHARED_SOCKET=TRUE" in windows registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE). if you're using multiple homes then choose the right one. Documents say that this is not for Oracle 10g, but I faced ORA-3135 and it got resolved by using this.
    N.B. Don't forget to restart the server after the change.
    Regards,
    S.K.

  • Standby setup - error in shipping logs

    Hello all,
    I have configured a physical standby database at the DR site which is connected by a 2mbps line to the primary database at Mumbai. A log file 20 MB in size takes 90 seconds to traverse this line (through manual ftp).
    When I put the database in managed recovery mode, and after a while when the log gets switched at the primary, i get the error: 16166 at the primary database trace file. There is also another error like 'possible disconnect with the standby' in the alert log file at the primary.
    Is there anything that i can change at Oracle side which can improve the situation ?
    Is the 2mbps (mega bits is what i understand) line sufficient to transfer data ?
    At times, the log generation rate at the primary site is 4 - 5 logs per second, is this generation rate okay ?
    Let me know what other details you would want to assist.
    Praveen

    this is the last portion of the alert log file...

  • Recovery in Archive log

    Hi,
    how to recover from the loss of datafile if the DB is running in archive log mode...
    Please some one give the steps...
    Thanks & Regards..

    how to recover from the loss of datafile if the DB is running in archive log mode...Just running archive log mode is not satisfy.Do you have backup of this datafile if yes then issue RESTORE DATAFILE <DATA FILE NO>;RECOVER DATAFILE <DATA FILE NO> or if you use user managed backup then restore that backup and issue RECOVER DATAFILE <DATA FILE NO> through sqlplus.But if you do not have backup of this dataflile then thare rest one way also(if your datafile created after creating control file),you can ALTER DATABASE CREATE DATAFILE 'FILE PATH ' AS 'FILE PATH ' and issue RECOVER DATAFILE 'FILE PATH ' through sqlplus.
