Standby setup - error in shipping logs

Hello all,
I have configured a physical standby database at the DR site which is connected by a 2mbps line to the primary database at Mumbai. A log file 20 MB in size takes 90 seconds to traverse this line (through manual ftp).
When I put the database in managed recovery mode, and after a while when the log gets switched at the primary, i get the error: 16166 at the primary database trace file. There is also another error like 'possible disconnect with the standby' in the alert log file at the primary.
Is there anything that i can change at Oracle side which can improve the situation ?
Is the 2mbps (mega bits is what i understand) line sufficient to transfer data ?
At times, the log generation rate at the primary site is 4 - 5 logs per second, is this generation rate okay ?
Let me know what other details you would want to assist.
Praveen

this is the last portion of the alert log file...

    I think it's a network problem but i don't know how to analyze it.
    Now i'm tring to use oswatcher.
    My production machine is a Linux x64 with 10.2.0.4 database.

    Hi,
    in the standby the listener is up and running.
    The service name identified in the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 is active in my standbydb.
    The error occurs sometimes in the nigth and i don't know if it's a network problem or other.

    Due to some error archive gap occurred in your setup. V$ARCHIVE_GAP can help you. Copy the missing archive logs to standby database and register them as follows.
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGICAL LOGFILE /disk1/oracle/dbs/log-1292880008_10.arc;
    After you register these logs on the logical standby database, you can restart log apply services.

  • Switchover scenario in a cascaded standby setup

    Hi,
    I have a setup of primary and standby databases in three locations A, B, C as below:
    Database version: 11.1.7.0
    In location A I have the primary database that ships redo log to a physical standby at location B alone.
    In location B I have a physical standby that replicates to site C.
    In site C I have the final physical standby that receives its redo logs directly from site B. In essence, this is a cascaded standby database.
    My question is about the switchover:
    Currently, both the instances in sites A and B have the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3 set to point to site C and this is valid for standby role alone.
    Which means in case the two sites - A & B reverse roles, site C will continue receiving redo logs from either A or B, depending on which one is the new standby.
    However, the doubt comes in if site C were to become the new primary instance. I suspect that I would need to add two parameters LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 and LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3 and point them to sites A and B respectively, and make them valid only for the primary role. In this case, if site C becomes the new primary, then both sites A and B can continue receiving redo logs from site C.
    Anyone who has ever implemented this?
    Regards,
    dula

    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1='LOCATION=/arch1/boston/ VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=boston'
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2= 'SERVICE=denver VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILES,STANDBY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=denver'
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3= 'SERVICE=chicago VALID_FOR= (ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=chicago'
    Chicago Database (Standby Role)
    DB_UNIQUE_NAME=chicago
    LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG= 'DG_CONFIG=(chicago,boston,denver)'
    REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE=EXCLUSIVE
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1= 'LOCATION=/arch1/chicago/ VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=chicago'
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2= 'SERVICE=denver VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILES,STANDBY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=denver'
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_3= 'SERVICE=boston VALID_FOR= (ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=boston'
    Denver Database (Standby Role)
    DB_UNIQUE_NAME=denver
    LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG= 'DG_CONFIG=(chicago,boston,denver)'
    REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE=EXCLUSIVE
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1= 'LOCATION=/arch1/denver/ VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=denver'
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2= 'LOCATION=/arch2/denver/ VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILES,STANDBY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=denver'
    Both the Boston primary database and the Chicago physical standby database define the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 initialization parameter as SERVICE=denver VALID_FOR=(STANDBY_LOGFILES, STANDBY_ROLE). Hence, even if the Boston and Chicago databases switch roles, the redo data will continue to be forwarded to the Denver database. Remember, as part of the original setup of the physical standby database, you should define a local destination, VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES, PRIMARY_ROLE), that will be used for local archiving when the physical standby database transitions to the primary role.

  • Cs4 installation setup error

    I recently upgraded my Macbook to a mid-2014 retina Pro, Yosemite. I was running Photoshop CS4 on the old mac, and tried running it on the new one (it "migrated" via the assistant) and it didn't work ("files were missing"). Downloaded the full CS4 from the Adobe site and tried to reinstall and now I'm stuck with this setup error: "Required Resources are Missing".
    Anyone? Is CS4 compatible with this Mac/OS? If not, can I upgrade to CS5 or 6 on this mac? Kinda trying to avoid CC as I don't use PS that often, and in an educational setting anyway.
    Thank you

  • Error message in logs on ASR903 with IOS XE 3.9.0

    Hi all,
    I have the following error message in logs on our ASR903 running IOS XE 3.9.0 :
    Jul 10 10:01:34.273 EET: %IOMD_IMFPGA-3-MDIO_WRITE: SIP1: iomd:  An MDIO write has failed for addr: 0 reg: 1f data: 0

    Any idea what this message could mean and if there is any workaround?
    I found a BUG but it's not well documented :
    CSCuf05039
    Symptom: I2C-WRITE and MDIO_READ error messages are displayed on the Cisco ASR903 router.
    Conditions: This issue occurs after an interface module hard or soft OIR is performed.
    Workaround: There is no workaround.

    Hi Reza,
    Thanks for your reply...yes lldp is enabled...and so far we did:
    - Reapply voice-vlan configuration
    - Disable/Enable LLDP
    - Reboot the Switch
    - Reset the Phones
    ... and only if we do "debug lldp" then it is working...strange

  • DG Observer triggering SIGSEGV Address not mapped to object errors in alert log

    Hi,
    I've got a Data Guard configuration using two 11.2.0.3 single instance databases.  The configuration has been configured for automatic failover and I have an observer running on a separate box.
    This fast-start failover configuration has been in place for about a month and in the last week, numerous SEGSEGV (address not mapped to object) errors are reported in the alert log.  This is happening quite frequently (every 4/5 minutes or so).
    The corresponding trace files show the process triggering the error coming from the observer.
    Has anyone experienced this problem?  I'm at my wits end trying to figure out how to fix the configuration to eliminate this error.
    I must also note that even though this error is occurring a lot, it doesn't seem to be affecting any of the database functionality.
    Help?
    Thanks in advance.
    Beth

    Hi..   The following is the alert log message, the traced file generated, and the current values of the data guard configuration.  In addition, as part of my research, I attempted to apply patch 12615660 which did not take care of the issue.  I also set the inbound_connection_timeout parameter to 0 and that didn't help either.  I'm still researching but any pointer in the right direction is very much appreciated.

  • Monitor stopped due to setup error or custom action

    Hi folks,
    i have installed the sun cluster and created a resource group for my oracle database. I have created resourece's for database server and or listener.
    My question is when I am issuing the scstat command on my oracle server resource i get the following mesg.
    "Monitor stopped due to setup error or custom action"
    What does it means, does anybody give me some hint about it.
    - Resource Groups and Resources --

    i check the /var/adm/message log and find out fallowing message

    and then i notice that i am using "sqlplus '/ as sysdba'" as Connect_strings, that is why i can start/stop the database but not able to monitor the database, for that i need to create an oracle account as it mentioned in "sun cluster data service for HA-Oracle" like
    # sqlplus /as sysdba
    grant connect, resource to user identified by passwd;
    alter user user default tablespace system quota 1m on
    system;
    grant select on v_$sysstat to user;
    grant create session to user;
    grant create table to user;
    exit;
    i would appriciate your update if i m doing some thing wrong here
    thanks

  • [DG Physical] ORA-00368: checksum error in redo log block

    Hi all,
    I'm building a DR solution with 1 primary & 2 DR site (Physical).
    All DBs use Oracle 10.2.0.3.0 on Solaris 64bit.
    The first one ran fine for some days (6), then I installed the 2nd. After restoring the DB (DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE FOR STANDBY) & ready to apply redo. The DB fetched missing arc gaps & I got the following error:

    ===================
    I see that may be RFS get the file incorrectly so I ftp to get this file & continue the apply, it pass. Comparison the RFS file & ftp is difference. At that time, I think that something wrong with the RFS because the content of arc is not right. (I used BACKUP VALIDATE ARCHIVELOG SEQUENCE BETWEEN N1 AND N2 THREAD X to check all arcs the RFS fetched, there was corrupt in every file);
    I restore the DR DB again & apply incremental backup from the primary, now it run well. I don't know what's happening as I did the same procedures for all DR DB.
    Yesterday night, I have to stop & restart DR site 1. Today, I check and it got the same error as the 2nd site, with corrupted redo. I try to delete the arcs, & let RFS to reget it, but the files were corrupt too.
    If this continue to happen with the 2nd site again, that'll be a big problem.
    The DR site 1 & Primary is linked by a GB switch, site 2 by a 155Mbps connection (far enough for my db load at about 1.5MB/s avg apply rate).
    I seach Oracle support (metalink) but no luck, there is a case but it mentions max_connection>1 (mine is default =1)
    Can someone show me how to troubleshooting/debug/trace this problem.
    That would be a great help!
    Thank you very much.

  • Primary and Standby, RMAN errors 8137 and 8591

    Hello,
    I have to resolve a serious problem of synchronization of two databases, one primary and one standby.
    I receive on the RMAN scripts these two errors : RMAN 8137 and RMAN 8591. I well know what these errors mean. The archivelogs were not sent on the standby, and so they are still needed, and not deleted.
    I have tried to follow the Oracle procedure of database synchronization (document 836986.1), but without success, as the archivelogs are still needed.
    Here is (a part of) the debug trace when I send the delete input command on the primary:

    Since sequence 20852, the archivelogs are not known on the standby.
    The first archivelog on the primary that is still there is the sequence 21095.
    Here is the rman configuration:

    I have tried several times to do incremental backup on the primary, apply it on the standby, but it never worked, except for the current_scn which changed on the standby. The archivelogs are still needed on the primary, unfortunately.
    What could I do next?
    Starting a new incremental backup starting with sequence 20852?
    Deleting by force all the archivelogs? And in that case what to do for the standby?
    Starting a new incremental backup taking the current scn of the standby?

  • Setup Error when trying to install any adobe CS6 Product

    I have analyzed the PDApp.log after trying to install any product, as Photoshop or Flash Pro (where I get "Installer failed to initialize. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem."), and there's 1 particular part, that seems to attract my attention:
    "[FATAL] Setup - Error installing C:\(installation path)\packages\core\PDApp.pimx package.
    Return Value of pim_installPackage = -1"
    Before, the log also says that getInstalledPackageSize: Package folder does not exist on the system.

    Hi compsai,
    There might be insufficent permissions. Please try the following :
    > Enable the hidden Admin Account on Windows 7 ( Ref :  http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-wi ndows-vista/ )
    > Disable all Non-Microsoft Startup Services. (Ref : http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/disable-startup-items-services-windows.html )
    > Disable all the Antivirus softwares like CA, Norton,Mc Afee etc. temporarily from the computer.
    Reboot and try installing in the new enabled Admin user account and check.
    Regards,
