Error: the database could not be exclusively locked to perform the operation in sql server 2008 ?
I am trying to rename the database but i am getting below exception while doing it-->
Error: the database could not be exclusively locked to perform the operation.(Microsoft Sql Server,Error 5030)
Thanks.
as mentioned earlier by both these users just wait for all the connections to go and then try- it will succed
or else if it is dev\Uat environment & you can kill the conenctions - make the changes (use this as last option)
i was just wondering if you are connected to the same DB? If yes change your context to master(means connect to master DB ) and then issue this command.

How to delete the Folder from sql server 2008
Hi all,
I was trying to delete the folder from sql server 2008 with the below script
DECLARE @path VARCHAR(256) -- path for backup files
DECLARE @cmd VARCHAR(8000)
DECLARE @folderName VARCHAR(256) -- filename for backup
SET @folderName = + (CONVERT(varchar(10), GETDATE()-7, 112)) -- 7 days back date folder name
SET @path = 'I:\Backup_Test\' + @folderName -- Folder path
SET @cmd = 'del ' + @path -- Delete
EXEC master..xp_cmdshell @cmd
--Print @cmd
This is not working it was asking the Confirmation (I:\Backup_Test\20100629\*, Are you sure (Y/N)? ) what will i do to the delete the folder.
Thanks,
Prasad R.I would notice you that T-SQL does not play well to do things like that. Do not you want using .net language to delete folders?
Old method is
declare @HR int, @CFOLDER varchar(255),@FSO int
set @CFOLDER='D:\folder\'
EXEC @HR = sp_OACreate 'Scripting.FileSystemObject', @FSO OUT
EXEC @HR = sp_OAMethod @FSO, null, 'DeleteFolder', @CFOLDER
Now regarding to your second question please examine xp_fileexist system stored procedure
CREATE FUNCTION dbo.fn_file_exists(@filename VARCHAR(300))
RETURNS INT
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @file_exists AS INT
EXEC master..xp_fileexist @filename, @file_exists OUTPUT
RETURN @file_exists
END
GO
-- test
SELECT dbo.fn_file_exists('c:\a.txt')

OraOLEDB not appearing as an option in the 'Providers' list SQL Server 2008
Hi there,
I'm trying to create a linked server to an Oracle 10g database from SQL Server 2008 R2, but the required OraOLEDB.oracle driver is not appearing in the list of providers. We are trying to recreate our prod environment where we use the 11g client to connect to the 10g db, so I downloaded the installed the 11gClient ODADC (11.1.0.7). I have the Oracle folder in my 'Start' menu (Windows 2008 O/S), and it looks like the Oracle install was successful but in the registry (regedit) I don't see Oracle listed as 'software' in the local_machine/software listing.
I set my Oracle home to C:\Oracle and the path under there is
product\11.1.0\client_1
I've also read in some other posts that I should have both a 32 bit and 64 bit Oracle driver installed - I'm assuming that 11g is 64-bit and 9i is 32 bit?
Should I be able to install just the client or do I need to install the Server as well?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for...I figured this out - we didn't have the 64-bit version of the driver.

While installing sql server 2012 with failover clustering I got the following error:
The cluster resource 'SQL Server' could not be brought online. Error: There was a failure to call cluster code from a provider. Exception message: Generic failure. Status code: 5942. Description: The resource failed to come online due to the failure of one
or more provider resources.
The two nodes of the sql server failover have been successfully prepared. The error came while running the advance cluster completion option.
In the clustered events in failover cluster manager the following message is displayed:
Cluster resource 'SQL Network Name (CPCTestSQLClus)' of type 'Network name' in clustered role 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' failed.
I have done various checking and the issue remained. I tried to start the sqlPlease find below part of the content of the cluster log. I hope this is helpful in resolving the issue:

There are several workstations that send .STR files to the Inventory
Service (Leaf->Root) that causes Storer in Root DB server to stop. It says
"..will retry" but it never does that. So, I have to manually stop the Inv
Service & db, remove the "corrupt" .STR file from the
\ZENworks\ScanDir\DBDir\temp folder, and start the db and InvService again.
Then the process continues until the next "corrupt" .STR file. They seem to
be Full Scan files according to the size of them.
Question: What can be wrong? How can make Storer just to skip those corrupt
..STR files?

Marcus, thanx for the quick answer (the weekend is over, back to work...),
but the fact of the TID does not match. Anyway, I think I should still try
that fix (have to try something...). Why those programs are not public? Is
there a way to make Storer to skip bad .STR files? That would be handy in
the future if any new problems occurs. What do ya think, should I try to
remove those problem workstations from the root database? Would that
correct (I mean delete and then recreate) the faulty tables in database if
the TID is right?
P.S. How do ya check if the Sybase DB is healthy, I mean the the way you
check DS with DSRepair...?

Does MAP tool capture User Summary (count of users, their details) for SQL Server 2008?
At my end, its working for SQL Server 2012 but not showing User Summary for SQL Server 2008..
Does the User Summary only works for SQL Server 2008 Enterprise edition as one of the thread points out? This is from the
Wiki article:
SQL Server 2008 Enterprise and Datacenter Editions introduced audit event configuration for Windows security logging, which enabled SQL Server 2008 to log logon events to the Windows Security log. The table below shows which versions and editions have the Audit
feature that is needed to record the logon events. MAP cannot obtain user and device access information for any other editions or any older versions of SQL Server.

SQL Server 2008 KB2977321 Failed with Error code 1642
As part of application of security patches via windows update, sql server KB2977321 was applied along with a number of OS security patches.
Prior to applying the patches, I stopped the agent, engine, reporting, analysis and full text services.
The Sql server build prior to windows update was (for both instances):
ProductVersion
ProductLevel
Edition
10.0.5500.0
SP3
Standard Edition (64-bit)
After the update process, my main instance is showing (the second instance is not in use yet and I have left it in its stopped state)

The instance came up successfully and seems to be operating normally. Was there an error or was the KB installed correctly as the result of the windows update process indicated?
Is there a way I can verify this?I did some research on this particular KB article and it seems to be related to Master Data Services which I am not using. The KB was pushed automatically and I am not sure that it was a required update in our situation. I'd like to understand exactly
what caused the error message before initiating a repair as this is a production and not a test environment. Everything appears to be functioning properly and I have received direction from Microsoft in the past that information in some logs identified
as level 'error' are in fact to be ignored. I checked the windows update and this KB shows 'Successful' rather than failed or cancelled.
I would also like more information on why sql server services should not be stopped prior to allowing the OS patches to be applied. I have received messages in the past that stopping the services before service packs are applied
prevent the necessity for a reboot of the machine. I've never heard before that it is a best practice not to stop Sql service prior to applying patches. Once the services are stopped, I have our infrastructure admin start a VM snapshot on
the machine then kick off the windows update process. When done, I reboot the machine, test out Sql Server processes and then if all goes well give the ok to release the VM snapshot. I've supported various databases for 12 years, Sql Server for 5
years and this is the first time I've heard stopping the service manually can cause problems. If that is the case, I will certainly change how I do things....
I did run the discovery report and the results follow:

DBConnect Error - Trying to Connect to SQL Server 2008
Hi,
I am trying to connect to one of the SQL Server on the domain.
SQL Server 2008
OS: Windows 2008 R2 64 bit
I have done all the entries as mentioned in the Note. 178949 correctly but when I am testing this connection through program ADBC_TEST_CONNECTION it is showing me following error:
Testing a Database Connection Defined in DBCON
Could not open connection SQLCONNECTION
sql error 1- occured:
I have put DBMSSSLIB.DLL and DBMSSSLIB.PDB in the run directory as mentioned in the note too.
I have searched forum but couldn't find any solution for this. Please advice.
Thanks,
Usman MalikHi dude!
Checking the dbsl_w<NN> as it is explained in point 3 of the 'Troubleshooting' section of [SAP note 738371|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/738371] would help a lot to know the reason of the failure.
I hope this helps you!
Cheers! -
when I try to install SQL Server enterprise 2008, during the installation processing, an error information occurs, it said that 'the feature you are trying to use is on a network
resource that is unavailable', it is missing this file "sql_engine_core_shared.msi".
Even I locate an available file with the same version for the installation, it still alert this error information. But actually the file exists in the directory that belong to the whole installation directory.
Because of this problem, I can`t complete the whole SQL Server installation. My computer OS is windows 7 Enterprise SP1, 32-bit, with .Net Framework 4.0. And I has installed Visual Stdio 2008, could this program impact the installation of SQL Server 2008?
Any good ideas, Thanks.Hi,
SQL Server 2008 Enterprise dose not support Windows
7. You can try SQL Server Standard, or SQL
Server Developer, or SQL Server Express. Please

This feature can only be installed on a server running SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 or later ERROR
Attempting to install MBAM 2.5, and the SQL Server I have available for the install is SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2; the databases installed correctly, but when I run the Reports install it suddenly doesn't like my SQL anymore. The error says I need to install
SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1, SQL Server 2012 SP1, or later - and the server is already at that level.
Any idea of how to progress without needing to wipe out SQL and upgrading everything to 2012 R2? I really need to get this running ASAP, so I'm hoping there's a tip that will allow me to get the install to complete.Added note: When I check the mbam setup logs in event viewer, I get the following error:
IsSupportedSqlVersion: The SQL version is not supported - 10.50.1600.1.
Checking the version in SQL Management Studio shows:

"SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services does not support map report items"
Hi,
I am trying some new feature that are introduced in SQL Server 2008 R2 version. While I try to use "Map" control within it, it threw the following error:-
"Error 1 The map, Map1, was removed from the report. SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services does not support map report items. "
-Also, similar kind of error I am getting for "Indicator" control.Hi Tej,
I think you get this error message when you are deploying a report to report server using BIDS, correct? If not, please provide more details on your scenario :-)
If I guessed correctly, then this message is a result of trying to deploy a map report (a SSRS 2008 R2 feature) to a non-R2 2008 report server. When deploying a report of RDL2010 format to a non-R2 report server, BIDS will downgrade the file to RDL2008 format, so that the non-R2 report server can process it. Any report elements using features not supported in RDL2008 will be dropped during this downgrade process.
BIDS gets the server version from a report project property called TargetServerVersion:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee635898(SQL.105).aspx
If your report server is indeed the 2008 R2 version, then the TargetServerVersion property should be set to "SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services." The project property page also has a "Auto Detect..." option if you are uncertain about the version of your report server.
Hope this helps!
Cheers,

Edited by: C@rlitos on Sep 30, 2009 6:14 PMHave you configured your Infra with a new hostname on a different port ?
Unless, you had installed your OAS with custom ports, and have not used the default ports for the components, your lsnr_token for the newurl has a problem. orasso and sso should be configured at 7777, and by default they configure at that port. That means that your newURL should be pointing to http://newurl.com:7777/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_login for the ls_login_url.
This might have happened due to some error in registering your portal with the SSO. Have you used custom ports for your installations?
Additionally, did you configure your newurl on port 80? -
For home use, I recently changed from Windows PC to MacBook Air. I have an iPhone 4 which I synched without problem to the PC. Since I have used Outlook for years on Windows and trusted advisors assured me Microsoft Office on the Mac is the same as Microsoft Office on Windows, I decided to continue using Microsoft Office. Because I cannot get my Outlook calendar to sync reliably to iCal / iPhone and because I have found a small but meaningful number of features I use daily in Outlook Windows do not work on Outlook Mac, I have never been in so much pain!
The latest problem is Outlook does not complete startup. I get this error:
There is a problem with the Outlook database. To use the database, you must rebuild it using the Database Utility.
I run the utility but it never completes successfully.
Step 1 of 5: Scannning...
Step 2 of 5: Verifying...
Step 3 of 5: Copying records to new database...
Step 4 of 5: Recovering data...
Your database could not be rebuilt. [-18000]
I have found many articles about this problem but they all seem to assume that you can successfully start Outlook then you rebuild the database to fix data corruption in Outlook.
What if I Outlook never completes startup? Here are the steps that solved the Outlook data corruption problem.

The question was: Your database could not be rebuilt
The key is to create a new Outlook Identity, remove the database file, then copy your data records into the new identity and use the Outlook database utility to rebuild the database.
It's a wonderful feeling to see Outlook start up successfully after a few days of downtime! -
Hello,
I've been running the DMV 'sys.event_log', and have noticed that I am getting a lot of errors about connection issues to some of my SQL Azure databases saying "Database could not be opened. May be caused because database does not exist or lack of authentication
to open the database."
The event type column says: 'connection_failed' and the event_subtype_desc column says: 'failed_to_open_db' both are associated with the above error message.
I know that these databases are on-line as I have numerous people connected to them, all of whom are not experiencing any issues. My question is, is there a query that you can run on SQL Azure to try and find out a bit more information about the connection
attempts?
If this was a hosted SQL solution it would be much easier.
MarcusHello,
As for Windows Azure SQL Database, we can't access the error log file as On-premise SQL Server. Currently, it is only support troubleshooting the connection error with the following DMV. The SQL database connections events are collected and aggregated in
two catalog views that reside in the logical master database: sys.database_connection_stats and sys.event_log. We can use sys.event_log view to display the details if there is error occurs.
Just as the connection failed describe, it may ocurrs when user didnot has login permission when connect to the SQL Database. If so, please verify the user has logon permission.
