Error using PDF printing

Hello.
I am having a problem using PDF printing.
When choosing PDF as output format in the Print Attributes tab, upon clicking on the print link in my app, Adobe reader comes up, but then I get a pop-up stating that the file could not be opened "... because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged...".
If I choose HTML as output format in the Print Attributes tab, then I get a long web server error stack that looks like this (see below)
Any idea what might be wrong?
thanks
Boris

Hi Boris,
I have the same issue. I am using FOP. have two reports to print in PDF format. one is output fine, another is having the problem that you mentioned. I found it's related to the column width(%) setting and Orientation setting. but I don't know how to set the column width correctly. I tested with different values for the one that works fine. unfortunately can't sort out another.

  • Using PDF Printer TO Print Multiple Word Docs At Once.

I Have Just upgraded from acrobat to acrobat 3d. In Acrobat 5 i was able to select a batch of word document (150+ usually) and use the send to command to send them to the acrobat distiller and each document would open one at a time print and then close. I have now been upgraded to Acroabat 3D and if i use the same Send to Command to send a batch of word docs to the pdf printer it tries to open all the selected files at once and i get an error message "the command cannot be performened because a dialog box is open..." this is because the 1st document is open and printing so the secound document that opened at the same time cannot operate the print command. Can Anyone help?

    Thanks for the suggestion but...
    1. I can't get these scripts to run in 10.4.8
What if you save the script as a stand alone app? Does that make a difference?
    2. I haven't spent much timr trying since it looks
like thy only convert "JPEG", "GIFf", "PICT", "TIFF",
"PDF" & "TEXT". Am I wrong?
That's what it looks like from the "extension-list" - what type of files are you trying to convert?

  • Using PDF Printer in XP Mode within Windows 7 64-bit

My laptop has Windows 7 64-bit on it, and Adobe Acrobat 8 installed on it and working great (moved the activation from my old XP machine).  I have one application that I have to run in XP Mode.  How can I install the print driver in both places without buying another license?  They are running on the same machine.
I tried to connecting to the shared PDF Printer using a network printer, but Adobe Acrobat only installs the 64-bit driver, and the XP Mode needs the x86 driver installed.  Is there a way to install the x86 version of the PDF Printer driver in Windows 7?
    Has anyone worked through this?
    Thanks,
    Mike

How is Acrobat 8 not fully Windows 7 compatible?  I see discussions on this Adobe Community saying how Acrobat 8 does work on Windows 7 and with 64-bit.  It appears that if Acrobat 8 is updated to the latest version, then this should fix AA8-Win7 issues.  And I am at the latest AA8 version, 8.3.1.
And how are Acrobat 8 and Reader XI are not compatible?  I have always had Acrobat and Reader installed on the same PC, without ever having any issues.  And Adobe allows the installation of one after the other.  So apparently Adobe allows them both to exist together.  If they are incompatible, then why would Adobe allow them to exist together?
Anyway, I did uninstall the FileOpen Plug-in and the Reader XI, then reinstalled the FileOpen Plug-in.  So now Reader is not installed and only Acrobat 8 is installed.  I then tried to load the PDF file, but I still get the Acrobat 8 error described above.

  • Using PDF Printer in XP Mode within Windows 7 64-bit (need x86 driver)

This question was asked before and there was no response. (See   http://forums.adobe.com/thread/782430 )
I have practically the same question.
My desktop has as Windows 7 64-bit on it, and Adobe Acrobat X installed on it  I have an application that I have to run in XP Mode.
How can I install the print driver in both places without buying another license?  They are running on the same machine.
I tried to connecting to the shared PDF Printer using a network printer, but Adobe Acrobat only installs the 64-bit driver, and the XP Mode needs the x86 driver installed.
I found that I can go to the  printer properties and it has an option to add the  X86 driver but asks for the .inf file.
I believe this version of Acrobat came as part of a bundle, but not positive. Can't find a disk anywhere and also looked for a driver on my PC. No luck.
I know this is a fully licensed product. So anyone know where I can find the driver?

  • Weird Errors in PDF Printing! Please help!

    Hi All,
I am facing two different problems in PDF printing. Any suggestions would be welcome. I would really be glad to understand what is going wrong.
    Problem 1:
I have a page with 2 report regions, each with its own header. My PDF report was working fine till the necessity arised for providing a page break.
Examples for the problem occuring are:
    1) The 2nd report's heading would be printed in 1st page and data in 2nd page.
    2) The 2nd table's column heading (that are printed in 2 lines) would be displayed with first line in 1st page end and 2nd line in 2nd page start.
In order to avoid this I had to provide a page break. An RTF page break was of no use, because if the 1st report had no data then the entire page would have only "No Data Found". I do not want this to happen. Hence I tried giving the "<?split-by-page-break:?>" before the <?end if?>.
I designed RTF as shown below:
    <?if:P0_REGION1_COUNT = 0?>Government Grants
No Data Found for specified Search Criteria <?split-by-page-break:?><?end if?>
    <?if:P0_REGION1_COUNT != 0?>Government Grants
Table with data display <?split-by-page-break:?><?end if?>
    <?if:P0_REGION2_COUNT = 0?>Non Government Grants
No Data Found for specified Search Criteria <?split-by-page-break:?><?end if?>
    <?if:P0_REGION2_COUNT != 0?>Non Government Grants
Table with data display <?split-by-page-break:?><?end if?>
When I upload this and run my page, I get the "Adobe reader could not open file because it is not supported type, it has been damaged. Eg it was sent as email attachment and wasnt correctly decoded error".
I already know this error occurs when there is a "No Data Found" in the report. I hence handled it using the 1st if condition and report was working till i had to change it to include the page break.
And the best part is for the same data, the PDF runs correctly when using BI Publisher Desktop.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong or what is happening here?
    Problem 2:
Whenever I change my RTF and upload it and run my application, my PDF output behaves in a very weird manner. After repeated tries of loading the same RTF, I finally get proper output. Once I get the output, it does not fail until I make changes to RTF and load again.
An example of weird output is: My first report data gets printed under 2nd report heading and vice versa. Also all the column data do not get printed. Only 1 or 2 columns data is printed.
Here also, for the same data, the PDF runs correctly when using BI Publisher Desktop.
Can anyone tell me what is going on??
    Thanks,
    Sumana

    Hi All,
On further observation (for Problem 2), I found that once I upload the changed RTF and wait for a long time before running the application (sometimes 2-3 hours), I get proper results. The problem itself does not occur always.
Is there any session/cache issue here? Clearing my desktop, browser cache does not help. So is there any other APEX cache (server side cache) that I would need to refresh, every time I change RTF? Or the BI publisher that is being used is not getting refreshed?
Can anyone shed any light on this issue please?
Regarding problem 1, I have implemented the page break differently using an outer table for each report and setting the table properties. Hence this is not an issue now.
    Thanks,
    Sumana

  • Error with PDF printing

I have a report region whose query specifies a '?' for one of the query's columns aliases. Something like 'Is Temporary?". When I attempt to 'Print' the report rendered by this query the result is an empty PDF document with an error message .
If I remove the '?' from the column alias , the report prints fine !
Is this a known issue with PDF printing in APEX ?
I have posted an example at the OTN APEX site.
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=23548:19
    Varad

    Varad,
Thanks for the workspace name, I would just remove your "Is Temporary?" alias name, there's no need for that, you can define your column headings on the report attributes page, and keep the column name as "temporary", so this query:
select owner ,object_name ,object_type ,created ,status ,temporary "Is Temporary?" from all_objects
    should be:
select owner ,object_name ,object_type ,created ,status ,temporary from all_objects
And then edit the report attributes and define a column heading for your "temporary" column.

    Marc

  • Using PDF Printer and MS SharePoint

We love the new functionality with Acrobat and Sharepoint, however, we noticed there is a problem when using the Adobe PDF Printer to save to a Sharepoint Library.
None of the Sharepoint functionality works when you save to a Sharepoint library from the PDF Printer!!!
We have users that (in an effort to cut down on paper printing costs) screen-print a report from an external application using the Adobe PDF Printer. We would like for them to be able to immediately drop these into a Sharepoint library which has required metadata fields in it. The problem is that, while this functionality works when you already have a PDF open and try to save to this library, the user is never prompted to fill out the required metadata whenever they use the PDF printer.
    Steps:
    1.     User hits the print button and selects the Adobe PDF Printer
    2.     User gets a Save-As dialog box where they select the sharepoint location (via a mapped drive)
    3.     The screen-print then pulls up in Acrobat
***The problem is, the document somehow successfully saves to the library but stays checked out. The user can just close the document and is never prompted for the metadata.

    Dear SAP_Wiz
    Thanks
It is a sapscript out put.
Converting output to spool and then to PDF is definetly a way.
However, seens SAP has already provided a PDF printer and which asked for email as parameter, It could be easy.
Is email ID as parameter is really not there is PRINT PARAMETER. ????

  • Error in pdf printing

i am using FOP for pds printing. The report is printed nicely when the records retrieved are 3000 or so. But when the record are more then that then it produces the following error.
Acrobat Reader could not open 'Report[1].pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as a email attachemnt and wasn't correclty decoded).
Is there some limitation of FOP to convert data to PDF? If not then what is the source of the reason. It may be worht mentioning that when I include a where clause in my report query that yeild less then 3000 rows then the report runs nicely.

    Varad,
The message in the PDF file now says:

  • Access denied when trying to use PDF printer as normal user

I have Acrobat 8 professional installed on a computer running Windows XP SP3. When i try to print a document to pdf from any program as Administrator it performs just fine. When i log on as a normal, restricted, user i get the window popup asking for a file name and location and whereever i try to save a file i get "access denied" error.
Users have right to write and modify in all of the folders i've tried to save to (desktop, my documents, custom made folders), but i think the problem is with the temp file being written to some system folder where restricted users don't have permission to write. Did anyone encounter a similar problem, and how did you solve it? What directories do the normal users need access to in order to perform printing.
    Thank You

The forum added some nice links and i found my answer here http://forums.adobe.com/message/1179199#1179199 - changed the registry key permissions and it's working like a charm. Thank you.

  • Copy and Paste Error Using Dymo Printer

I have small issue, I export invoices for my shop to Adobe Reader XI
I then Copy and Paste the names and addresses to my Dymo Labelwriter 450 to make address labels. I am using Mac with OS X
My Invoices have the Font, ADAM.CG, this is my default for my Dymo printer etc and also the font on my PDF document.
When I paste this into my Dymo with Cmd + V the text is pasted but in Helvetica instead!
Can anyone point me in the right direction to correct this, I know I can change each manually, but when I have many to do, this takes time.
I have been in contact with Dymo and they replicate the same issue and say they can't help and to contact Adobe.
    Thanks,
    John

It is a standard Magento PDF that is created, then opened in Adobe automatically by my Mac, then just use a standard copy and paste to my Dymo LabelWriter.

  • PDF Quality using PDF Print driver on Mac v FMP on PC

We’re having an issue that I hope you can help us resolve. When creating the same PDF document on a MAC v PC using Adobe PDF driver built into the Filemaker Pro we are getting a drastically different quality of document. Originally I assumed it was the original PDF driver installed on the PC itself since it was an off brand “LITE” version so I had the user remove all other PDF software and start from scratch with acrobat. Still getting the same results.  I have no idea if and where quality settings would be found on the PC or in FMP to check those…
    Any ideas?

Thanks for the quick response, Karl.
The client downloaded the trial version of Pro X, to verify that the form works before buying. Would the trial version impose restrictions?
The client does not want to store data on a server. He wants the form to function as a template that he can save-as to customize. The completed forms will be shown on the computer as a part of a presentation, sometimes without Internet access.
I tried using the Advanced > Extend Form Features options to enable to ability to save form data, but when I tested the PDF on my PC (Vista, latest version of Reader) I got an error message along the lines of "this document has been modified from previous version, please get a copy of the original" and all form fields are gone.
I'm currently downloading the trial of Pro X so I can test the PDF.
    I am also using a Javascript to allow the client to place photos in the document. This is achieved using a button with a Javascript attached to it: event.target.buttonImportIcon();
This works correctly in my environment, but could it be screwing up the file as it's opened on a PC?

  • Is anyone has already had the following error using PDF Generator?

    Hello,
I try to convert some documents (.doc, .ppt, ...) into .pdf using the PDF Generator.
And sometimes, I hava the following error in a .log file (in the out directory):
Failed to process job DDLaunchObject-2006-08-08 13-22-40.102.doc
    Error Code: 1,011
Reason: The BMC reported failure in converting the document.
Is anyone has already had that error? What do I have to do?
    Please, could you help me?
    Thanks a lot!

I have seen this error when trying to convert a certain Word document. The Word document itself when i opened it in Word resulted in a warning message that it needed to install a language pack, once i installed this language pack, the conversion in PDFG worked.
PDFG uses the native process in the background to convert the files. That means for Word docs it actually uses msword.exe to read the document. If opening the document in Word results in any kind of error or user dialog, then this could be what causes the PDFG server to fail, as the server cannot respond to the error/dialog that occurs.
    hope that helps.
    David.

  • Comma in report column alias breaking PDF Printing?

It appears that some (but not all) special characters (e.g., a comma) in a report column alias causes an error when using PDF printing under "Print Attributes" for reports.
    This query works fine:
select sysdate as "Date Today" from dual
But the query below causes the error "Adobe could not open 'report[1].pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged...":
select sysdate as "Date, Today" from dual
Does anyone know a work-around? My real alias is "Lastname, Firstname" so I would like to keep the comma!
We're using APEX 3.0.1 and PDF printing with Apache FOP.
    Thanks ahead of time.
    Cindy

    Hi Cindy,
why not use the "Heading" property of a report column to show a speaking column heading? The column alias isn't really intended for that purpose.
Set the "Heading Type" to "Custom" then you are able to change them for each column.
