Error when inserting more than 500 characters

Hello all,
I am not sure if I should be posting here or in the Flex
Forum, so I apologize ahead of time if I am in the wrong place.
I am Using a Flex frontend and a ColdFusion backend to edit
data in a simple Access Database (for testing). I have a ColdFusion
CFC on the backend that handles everything just fine until I enter
in more than 500 characters (Actually 510) into my text area and
then I get the error "Unable to invoke CFC - Error Executing
Database Query.". Now you might be saying that either the database
field is not set to handle that many characters or the CFC is
restricting more than 500 characters, but they are not. The
database field is set to "memo" and the maxlength in the CFC is set
to 5000. I am wondering if has something to do with Access
databases I do not know because I don't use them that often.
I have tested this over and over and it only throws the error
if I exceed 510 characters in the Flex TextArea.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
The CFC code is below I didn't add the MXML because I figured
there was nothing special about the TextArea block:

Very strange as to why this worked but just in case someone
else has the same problem here is how I got it to work.
I just changed this line:
rss_copy = <cfqueryparam value="#arguments.rss_copy_edit#"
cfsqltype="cf_sql_varchar" maxlength="5000">
to this:
rss_copy = '#arguments.rss_copy_edit#"'
and it worked just fine.

  • Cannot insert more than 4000 characters using PL/SQL SP  to LONG columns

    I have created a stored procedure which will insert more than 4000 characters in a table having long column.
    The stored procedure body is as follows :
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE INSERTTOTEST(P_ZUNIQUEID IN  VARCHAR2,P_LONGVAL  IN LONG)
    AS
    BEGIN
    insert into CLOBVALUESHOW(zuniqueid, longval) VALUES (p_zuniqueid, p_longval) ;
    COMMIT;
    END INSERTTOTEST;
    When I use the RPAD function as below, it executes without any error :
    EXEC INSERTTOTEST('ABCD123',rpad('',32000,'*'))*
    But when I run with real-time values like the following string value :

    >
    But then why will the problem happen with this long string ?
    >
    You don't have a 'long string'. You have a lot of single-quoted strings combined with some unquoted strings.
    There are embedded singel quotes in what you call 'this long string'.
    Try using a different string delimiter so that the quotes do not cause a problem.
    You can use an exclamation point ('!') since there is none in the text you provided.
    Here is an example of what will not work because there is one embedded single quote
    'name LIKE '%DBMS_%%'This is the same value using exclamation as the delimiter - this works because there is no exclamation in the string
    q'!name LIKE '%DBMS_%%'!'1. q must be the first character
    2. ' (single quote) must be the next character
    3. ! (or any delimiter you choose) is the next character
    4. abcdefg. . . -- this is your string that can include single quotes but not an exclamation point
    5. ! is the next to last character - must be the same delimiter used as the third character
    6. ' (single quote) is the last character
    See the 'Text Literals' section of the SQL Reference for more examples
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/sql_elements003.htm
    Note that this one will not work because the string includes the percent
    This is the same value using exclamation as the delimiter - this works because there is no exclamation in the string
    q'%name LIKE '%DBMS_%%'%'

  • Insert more than 4000 characters using sql plus

    I have a SQL script that creates a database. The problem is that some of the fields are longer than 4000 characters in the INSERT statement and Oracle doesn't seem to like it.
    The field is a clob and works fine in the application (i.e. I can insert more than 4000 characters using the app) - how do I achieve this in a SQL script?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Steve

    Hi,
    This pl/sql block works absolutely fine in SQL*Plus inserting > 4000 characters into clob column:
    declare
    l_str varchar2(8000);
    l_str1 varchar2(2400) := 'first part of the verly long string...';
    l_str2 varchar2(2400) := 'second part of the verly long string...';
    begin
    l_str := l_str1 || l_str2;
    insert into tmpl values (l_str);
    end;
    So, you'll have to replace inserts with pl/sql blocks in your script.

  • Maintenace view for fld more than 500 characters

    Ho do i create a maintenance view for fld more than 500 characters? i  need a maintenance view to maintain URL which is sometimes more than 500 chars.

    The way SAP solves this for webservices is via a hash.
    Once you have executed the service, the URL populates a mapping table and generates a unique hash value for it.
    Via this hash, you can assign it to authorization fields and use it in your coding where the fields have limitations.
    As a consequence this causes some confusion if you dont use F4, but it does work.
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • Rendering Error when using more than one DataSheetView on a Enterprise Wiki-Page

    Hi Experts,
    how to reproduce:
    Add two Custom Lists with some Fields (Add Lookup-Columns to both Lists).
    Add a DataSheetView to each List and mark it as Default-View
    Create a Enterprise Wiki-Page
    Add a WebPart (Custom-List-1)
    You will see the Content from List 1 as DataSheet-View (because it is the Default-View)
    Add another WebPart below the previous added WebPart (Custom-List-2)
    You will see the Content from List 2 as DataSheet-View (because it is the Default-View)
    Notice that the First DataSheet has faulty Rendering. The Lookup-Columns having more than one 'Arror-Down' Image and it is even on the left. If you click into different Column, different row you get the same.
    I can reproduce this behaviour anytime.
    Environment: SharePoint 2013 Enterprise, IE10
    If you use Development-Tools to identify first datarow of first DataSheet you can see that it has to do something with the related <Input>-Tags:
    <div class="combobox-placeholder" id="jsgrid_combobox" style="left: 27px; top: 32px; width: 117px; height: 29px; border-top-color: currentColor; border-right-color: currentColor; border-bottom-color: currentColor; border-left-color:
    currentColor; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-top-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-bottom-style: none; border-left-style: none; visibility: inherit; ; direction: ltr; min-width:
    117px; background-color: transparent;">
    <input class="cb-textbox " style="width: 156px; height: 25px;" dir="ltr" type="text"/><input tabindex="-1" title="Dropdown" class="combobox-img" style="height: 29px;"
    dir="ltr" type="button" value="▼"/><input class="cb-textbox " style="width: 84px; height: 25px;" dir="ltr" type="text"/><input tabindex="-1" title="Dropdown"
    class="combobox-img" style="height: 29px;" dir="ltr" type="button" value="▼"/>
    Please have a look into it. Current Workaround for me is to have a Default-ListView in first WebPart. But then Customer has to click the Edit-Button to Change the Item in the releated EditForm. This is a Show-Stopper here!
    With Best Regards,
    Ronny

    Hi Ronny,
    According to your description, the lookup column would render incorrectly when adding more than one datasheet view in the Enterprise Wiki page.
    I tested the same scenario per your post, and I got the same results as you got.
    We will help to submit the issue to proper pipeline for you.
    Again, thank you for your report which will definitely make SharePoint a better products. There might be some time delay.
    Appreciate your time and patience.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Error when connecting more than 50 users ??

    I use database 8iEE & form server (9ias rel1) on different box to deploy form on the web
    the error occur when user connect more than 50, but it's ok when connect to database using sqlplus
    Is there someone has the same experience ?

    I think this problem has been addressed and answered in this forum time and again …
    Opening files or creating new files while in Full Screen Mode will cause a cursor offset in Photoshop CS4 (I don’t know if there are configurations where that does not happen, but best assume it just does); the common remedy is circling through the Screen Modes by hitting F on the keyboard three times.
    Edit: The matter doesn’t seem to have made it into the FAQ, though. Maybe someone could add it there?

  • Export error when creating more than 2 gb file

    Good day,
    There is a problem with the export utility. while exporting a file size more than 2 gb an error occured.
    00002- Error in writing to export file
    my os is Unix 6 SCO and Orale database version is 7.1.3
    knidly look into this issue.
    Thanks & Regards.

    SCO OpenServer 6 now provides users with 1 TeraByte file support. A TeraByte is equal to approximately 1 trillion bytes. This new feature allows SCO OpenServer 6 users to create files that are over the previous 2 gigabyte file limit in older versions of SCO OpenServer. This new feature provides greater flexibility in file size and application usage.
    To showcase this new feature, we will create a file that is larger than 2+ Gigabytes. In order to accomplish this task, we will need to use SCO OpenServer 6 large filesystem-aware commands. These commands can be found in /u95/bin.
    To Create a 2+ Gigabyte File:
    In the KDE desktop environment, click on the UNIX icon. The UNIX terminal window will appear.
    In the terminal window, type
    /u95/bin/dd if=/dev/urandom of=bigfile bs=100k count=40000
    Press Enter. A 4+ Gigabyte file will be created.
    NOTE: This exercise will require approximately 5 minutes to complete. This test also requires approximately 5 Gigaytes of available disk space on your machine.
    You have now successfully created a 2+ Gigabyte file in SCO OpenServer 6. This completes the detailed instructions for the product walkthrough. Feel free to investigate other features within SCO OpenServer 6.

  • How do I post a recurring problem with a report that isw more than 500 characters

    Why does FFx 8.0.1 initiate a XP restart? i.e.
    This is a repeat of my 1st test!! While not at the PC (12/15/11 late evening) version 8.0.x is automatically upgrading Firefox 6.0.2.. Shut down PC, restart 12/16/11 today. Run the test again using the URL below possibly a typical problem site. Select Yamax SW200 from this page. Wait about a minute plus and XP reboots etc.
    http://www.pedometersusa.com/view-all-pedometers.html?gclid=CKGJl9Kp3KwCFcya7Qodomb6qw
    so I run IE version 6.0.2900.55112.xpsp.0804313-2111 and use the same URL. IE sat ar this tab for more than 25 MINUTEs and THERE WAS NO Problem i.e. XP did not reboot or Blue Screen.
    ----------- end of repeat test of 12/16/11 -----------

    If the file has to contain the images, then the file has to bear whatever weight the images contribute.  The only way to get to 50K is to have the total weight of the images come in below that.  If the label images are just text then you should see what you can do to draw them up as vectors in Flash.  But I doubt the larger images are going to be able to be optimized down far enough to meet the spec while retaining the kind of clarity you want, especially if the 640x480 needs to be expanded to a larger full screen size.

    Hi
    final byte[] byteArray = eachLine.toString().getBytes();
    response.setContentLength( byteArray.length );
    out.write(byteArray);
    I assume eachLine is an object that holds the 100MB file contents, just release the memory held by this object before you start the writing part as shown below
    final byte[] byteArray = eachLine.toString().getBytes();
    eachLine=null;//removed the reference holding the memory
    System.gc()//if JVM is in a good mood may be it will release some memory
    response.setContentLength( byteArray.length );
    out.write(byteArray);
    before throwing out of memeory JVM may try to run the garbage collecter as you have initialised your object it might free up some memory

  • ServletInputStream error when reading more than once

    I have an application which needs to look at fields in a multipart request in several different places of the code. The first time I look at the request, it works just fine, but every time after that it doesn't. Here is a simplified example of what is happening:
    private ServletInputStream in;
    private HttpServletRequest request;
    private byte[] buff = new byte[100*1024];
    public Class class1  {
        public class1(HttpServletRequest req) {
            super();
            request = req;
            in = request.getInputStream();
            String line = readLine();
            System.out.println("Testing line1: " + line);
    private ServletInputStream in2;
    private HttpServletRequest request;
    private byte[] buff = new byte[100*1024];
    public Class class2  {
        public class2(HttpServletRequest req) {
            super();
            request = req;
            in2 = request.getInputStream();
            String line = readLine();
            System.out.println("Testing line2: " + line);
    }Not sure that it is relevant, but in case it is, my readLine() method looks like this:
    private String readLine() throws IOException {
        int len = 0;
        String line = null;
        len = in.readLine(buff,0,buff.length);
        if(len < 0) return null;
        line = new String(buff,0,len,"ISO-8859-1");
        return line;
    }The request is basically passed around so it is the same request object both times. The first one outputs the first line as expected. In the second one however, line is null.
    Interestingly enough, I found the following to be true also:
    private ServletInputStream in;
    private ServletInputStream in2;
    public Class class3 {
        public class3(HttpServletRequest request){
            super();
            in = request.getInputStream();
            if(in != null) {
                in.close();
            in = null;
            in2 = request.getInputStream();
            String line = in2.readLine();
            // IOException OCCURS HERE SAYING: Stream closed
    }The stream was closed on the first "in" but not on the second, so why would I be getting this????
    Help!!

    I am not completely sure what to do now. Basically, I have a multipart request for a fileupload. Towards the beginning of my servlet, I need to get the form parameters. This is working fine. But since you say that the getInputStream() will return the same instance regardless of where it is called from, I am in trouble when later on in the code I need to actually upload the file. To integrate this into my core java framework, there really isn't a way that I can get all the information I need at the beginning and use it later. Is there a way I can get the form parameters WITHOUT using the inputstream? Then, my inputstream could be called in my mapper for uploading the file. I haven't found another way to do this, as multipart requests are handled differently. Any suggestions at all?

  • How to display TEXT more than 500 char in a report as multiple lines.

    Hi Friends,
    i have a requirement like i should display Texts of length more than 500 Characters in a report( ALV LIST) as multiple lines
    I am fetching the data Using FM READ_TEXT
    the output im currently geeting with 150 Char in lenth as a single line
    How we can split the text into multiple lines in a report
    first i would like to know is it possible? if possible please give your valuable suggitions if not is there any alternative way to do this task.
    Thanks & regards
    kumar.

    Hi,
    This is possible but the Solution might not look Standard/Appropriate to you.
    In ALV, you can have Multiple Line Output...There is a Field in the Field Catalogue..called as Row_position...this is by default 0...which means Single row/Line ALV output....You can have this Value in the Range of 0 to 3.......A ALV field with row_position 1, will be displayed in the second line for every record...i.e. you will have multiple line for a single record of ALV.
    In your case......you can use this but you need to split your field in two fields.....but you may end up spliting a single word....but for that also you can design the logic of splitting the Fiel value at SPACE only......
    This may work.......and Sorry if not work......

  • Dataype for more than 4000 characters

    Hello,
    I ve got an Oracle 9i Database with an Table which has an Collumn defined as varchar2.
    Now I found, that's still not enough for my application.
    I tried to delete the Table and switch the Data Type to long. Other than expected I'm still not able to insert more than 4000 characters.
    Any ideas?
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,
    You can look at the sample based on LOB Datatype at this location.
    http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/files/advanced/advanced.htm
    There is a method called 'loadSamples' in the source file of this sample(http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/files/advanced/LOBSample/LOBSample.java.html)
    This is the way you insert data into a BLOB or CLOB.
    You can't directly insert data > 4000 characters in a BLOB or CLOB. you need to first create an empty BLOB or CLOB and then insert data into it.

    I tried changing the Datatype of the field from text to Memo field in MS ACCESS.But when i insert the data using setString method of the PreparedStatement ,it's giving the following SQL exception:SQLException caught:[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]String data, right truncated (null)
    How do i let an user key in more than 255 characters.Can somebody help me on this please ASAP as this is a very crucial issue which i need to solve by tomorrow.

    Hi Jacob,
    Have you tried re-publishing the projects from MS Project and see if that helps?
    500 tasks are quite a lot for the browser to deal with; I usually recommend switching to MS Project when you have that number of tasks for a project
