Hello,
Your database is running in NOARCHIVE mode. You have two options here:
1. Either place your database in archive log mode and then take the backup.
SQL>alter system set log_archive_dest_1='location=<location where you want the database to generate the archives>';
SQL>shut immediate
SQL>startup mount
SQL>alter database archivelog;
SQL>alter database open; Now take the backup of the database through RMAN.
2. If you do not want to have your database in archivelog mode, then take the backup of the database through RMAN when the database is in mount mode.
SQL>shut immediate
SQL>startup mountNow take the backup of the database through RMAN and once done, open the database.
It is recommended to take the backup by placing the database in archivelog mode.

  • DB13, Error while backup

    Hello
I am trying to schedule Whole offline backup through DB13 in Solution Manager 4.
The backup kicks off at the schedule time but ends with error with in seconds.
When i go and check the background job in SM37, the Job DBA:ALLOFFLINE______@174008/4000 is with Finished successfully status
I check the JOB log in DB13,
    21:00:00     Job started
21:00:00     Step 001 started (program RSDBAJOB, variant &0000000000000, user ID XYZ)
21:00:00     Execute logical command BRBACKUP On host DQESAP03
    21:00:00     Parameters:-u / -jid ALLOF20090401210000 -c force -t offline_force -m all -p initDBI.sap -w use_dbv
    21:00:01     Job finished
I go to Action log in DB13
    Status is in Error
Return code is 003 Error during initialization.
when i go to detail action log:-
BRBACKUP Action Log for Database <DBSID>
    From:   01.04.2009 20:40:09
    LogFile:   beagpiht.afd
Return Code:   0003 Error during initialization
No action log for this action found in the database
      Check the detail log
There are no logs created at OS level /oracle/SID/sapbackup
I then started the backup usning BRTOOLS at os level and Backup is successful.
Please suggest what could be the problem.
    Thanks

    OK, putting my 5cents
    1) I do not think the recommendation is good.
Table SDBAC should only be "touched" if indicated by an SAP note.
    2) at the same time, I think it may be part of the problem.
    The OP states:
    > I am trying to schedule Whole offline backup
    also
    > background job in SM37, the Job DBA:ALLOFFLINE___
and finaly, the command executed is:
    > Parameters:-u / -jid ALLOF20090401210000 -c force -t offline_force -m all -p initDBI.sap -w use_dbv
That is an OFFLINE backup plus a verification.
AFAIK, that is not a standard SAP JOB.
I assume that someone has changed the entry in SDBAC introducing this "new" action.
DB13 does not have coded such action, therefore it is not able to find it on the "control" tables and also it is not able to find the log.
    Advise
    1) check if someone changed that entry
    2) check if there any "beagpiht*" log file in your system
    3) do not play with SDBAC
Another option would be that you are in a MCOD database. Is that the case?

  • Error while backup -- Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000)] Error 3202

    Hi,
I am not able to take my sql backup due to the following error.
This error is comming after one hour form starting the backup
Could you suggest me why my sql is throwing this error and how to resolve?
[Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000)] Error 3202: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Write on 'G:\DEV_1.BAK' failed, status = 33. See the SQL Server error log for more details.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
    Regards,
    Gayathry.

As far as i can see this is usually and error that shows up when you have some sort of I/O, media or hardware failure.
I'll recommend you to check this before resuming

  • Error while opening the backup information fom Maxdb

    Hello All,
I am getting the below error while opening the backup information from Maxdb.
Backup history file /sapdb/data/wrk/<sid>/dbm.knl corrected in line <xxxx> ; 2012-02-21 07:30:25 can not be convert in to a signed 32 bit integer value
The full line is as below from the dbm.knl file:

I am able to open and check this line in the file dbm.knl ; But, i am not getting why this error is occurring while opening the backup information from Maxdb. I am able to view the backup logs through LC10.
Currently i am getting this error and when i am click on cancel (or ok) getting the blank page.  I am not able to view the backup logs form Maxdb.
Please give me some hint to resolve this.
    Regards,
    Nagendra.

    Hi,
    Use below procedure
    1. Go to /sapdb/SRD/data/wrk
    2. cp -rp dbm_knl dbm_knl_OLD
    3. vi +<Line in which the corruption occured> dbm.knl
see there must be a corruption in the given line and it will specified with a green color
delete that part and make the format as per the above line
    4. save the file
    5. execute the procedure again from Database studio or Database Manager
(Note: Make sure that you have taken the backup first of dbm.knl file Because any extra entry may cause another corruption)
(FYI : This file is only log file of successful backups and returns the return-code)

We are facing this problem on our XI production server.
When i observed the logs i found and understood that it had problems with backing up the datafiles 7, 8, 27, 28, 29, 32, 33 and 35.
But i have no clue why it is happening suddenly..

  • Getting error while taking MAX DB trans log backup.

    Hi,
I am getting error while taking trans log backup of Maxdb database for archived log through data protector as below,
    [Critical] From: OB2BAR_SAPDBBAR@ttcmaxdb "MAX" Time: 08/19/10 02:10:41
Unable to back up archive logs: no autolog medium found in media list
But i am able to take complete data and incremental backup through data protector.
I have already enabled the autolog for MAX DB database and it is writing that log file directly to HP-UX file system. Now i want to take backup of this archived log backup through data protector i.e. through trans log backup. So that the archived log which is on the file system after trans log backup completed will delete the archived logs in filesystem.  So that i don;t have to manually delete the archived logs from file system.
    Thanks,
    Subba

    Hi Lars,
    Thanks for the reply...
Now i am able to take archive log backup but the problem is i can take only one archive file backup. Not multiple arhive log files generated by autolog at filesystem i.e /sapdb/MAX/saparch.
I have enabled autolog and it is putting auto log file at unix directory i.e. /sapdb/MAX/saparch
And then i am using the DataProtector 6.11 with trans log backup to backup the archived files in /sapdb/MAX/saparch. When i start the trans backup session through data protector it uses the archive stage command as "archive_stage BACKDP-Archive LOGBackup NOVERIFY REMOVE" If /sapdb/MAX/saparch has only one archive file it will backup and remove the file successfully. But if /sapdb/MAX/saparch has multiple archive files it gives an error as below,

  • Error while restoring the backup

    HI,
We have taken the offline backup through BRtools but we have used rman to take the backup in init.SID.sap. We have succeeded in taking the backup of the database and it has saved in .S format. Now when we are restoring with Brrestore it is giving the below error. Can any one suggest how to restore the backup.

***ORA-12528: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections***

I am not able to connect the sqlplus remotely.\
    Thanks in Advance...

    Devika,
You have to stop all your adapters, your repository, close all IStudio client and stop all sessions connected to this schema before running the oaiimport.
If you don't do this the oaiimport will not work properly as the script will not be able to drop the user and will try to re-create existing objects.
Tip : use the following select to list the session using oaihub902 user (and get rid off them)
    select username, count(*)
    from V$session
    where username in ('OAIHUB902')
    group by username
    order by count(*) desc, username

  • I am getting below error while taking RMAN backup.

    Friends,
I am getting below error while taking RMAN backup.
The issue is related with a lock while trying to backup the controlfile.
The lock is more likely caused by the autobackup controlfile process started just before RMAN process was also trying the backup controlfile as shown in the following alert.log excerpt.

We are able to take offline, online backups but we are facing the above mentioned problem while taking archive log backup
We are on ECC 6 / Oracle / AIX
    The kernel is latest
The drive is working fine and there is no problem with the tapes as we have tried using diffrent tapes
can this be a permissions issue?
I ran saproot.sh but somehow it is setting owner as sidadm and group as sapsys to some of the br* files
I tried by changing the permissions to oraSID : dba but still the error is the same
    Any suggestions?

Means you have not initialized the medias but trying to take backups.
First check how many medias you have entered in your tape count parameter for archive log backups (just go to initSID.sap and check)
Then increase/reduce them to according to your archive backup plan >> Initialize all the tapes according to their name (same as you have initialized in initSID.sap) >> stick physical label to all the medias according to name >> Schedule archive backups
It will not ask you for initialization as already you have initialized in second step.
Suggestion: Use 7 medias per week (one tape per day)

    Nick Loy

  • RMAN-20260 error while trying to delete a backup piece

    Hello,
In my company we use Oracle 10g, backup managed by RMAN and integrated with TSM.
In order to remove the old backup files, there is a delete script to do this.
    Basically this script:
    connect to RMAN catalog
allocate channel for maintenance device type 'sbt_tape'
    change backuppiece <file names from rc_backup_piece older than 35 days> delete;
When this command is run, this error is being generated:
RMAN-03002: failure of delete command at 01/18/2010 17:14:00
RMAN-06004: ORACLE error from recovery catalog database: RMAN-20260: backup piece not found in the recovery catalog
RMAN-06092: error while looking up backup piece
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Fer

    Hy Tycho,
    Yes, it's a tape backup.
This is the channel used to take the backup:
    allocate channel t1 type 'sbt_tape' parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/opt/tsm..../...opt)';
I tried this rman command with a file name that is 35 days older in rc_backup_piece:
    list backuppiece <file name>;
    I received this error:
    RMAN-20260: backup piece not found in the recovery catalog;
How can this file be in the rc_backup_piece and not appear in the list backuppiece ?
    Thanks a lot.
    Fer

  • ERROR: invalid backup file version. Exception: Error while unzipping invalid wcs 7.x export file

    Hi,
I'm having a serious issue with your brend new Cisco Prime Network Control System (NCS) and i would appreciate if someone could give me good answers.
After a background backup task failure, the database was entirelly corrupted and the oracle server no longuer wanted to start. And because of that the NCS web server is unusable, since no one can log in.
We tryed to restore to last known backup obtained after a former suucessful backup. But we get this error:
"ERROR: invalid backup file version. Exception: Error while unzipping invalid wcs 7.x export file"
All the lost data was previously migrated from the former WCS 7.x server. Before this issue everything was working fine.
So we think that the appliance is seeing the backup file from NCS as a WCS backup.
We need to find rapidly a solution. Here is our configuration:
We formerly had WCS 7.0.172.0 hosted on Microsoft Windows Server 2003  SP2 with the above caracteristics:
    Intel(R)Xeon(R) CPU  5120 @ 1.86Ghz 1.87Ghz 16GB of RAM.
We now have NCS  Version 1.1.1.24 running under Cisco Application Deployment  Engine
    OS Release:  2.0
    ADE-OS Build Version: 2.0.1.038
    ADE-OS System Architecture:  x86_64

I was getting this error too. TL;DR: When you transfer the wcs.zip file to your FTP server, make sure you are using BINARY mode... which is often NOT the default FTP mode.
    Long Version:
TO GET THIS ERROR, what I had done was use the Windows CLI FTP command to transfer my "wcs.zip" to the NCS FTP server.
    -----BEGIN WRONG STEPS-----
    C:\ftp
    ftp> open x.x.x.x
    Connected to x.x.x.x.
220 Service ready for new user
    User (x.x.x.x:(none)): ftp-user
331 User name okay, need password for ftp-user
    Password:
    230 User logged in, proceed
    ftp> put wcs.zip
    200 Command PORT okay
150 File status okay; about to open data connection
    226 Closing data connection
ftp: 526768949 bytes sent blah blah etc
    -----END WRONG STEPS-----
I would then run "ncs stop" and "ncs migrate" and get the "ERROR: invalid backup file version. Exception: Error while unzipping invalid wcs 7.x export file".
I remembered something from my misspent youth: Windows, for no good reason, likes to transfer files in ASCII mode. UNIX (which LINUX comes from) prefers BINARY, and the two do not like to negotiate.
TO FIX THIS, I had to just FTP in Binary mode.
    -----BEGIN RIGHT STEPS-----
    C:\ftp
    ftp> open x.x.x.x
    Connected to x.x.x.x.
220 Service ready for new user
    User (x.x.x.x:(none)): ftp-user
331 User name okay, need password for ftp-user
    Password:
    230 User logged in, proceed
    ftp> binary
    200 Command TYPE okay
    ftp> put wcs.zip
    200 Command PORT okay
150 File status okay; about to open data connection
    226 Closing data connection
ftp: 526768949 bytes sent blah blah etc
    -----END RIGHT STEPS-----
NOW when I enter "ncs stop" (actually... had to restart them... then stop them... x.x) and then the proper "ncs migrate" commands, I get a happy output and don't have to go home late troubleshooting this.

I hope this helps anyone banging their head against the WCS->PI1.3 install wall.
(Note, WCS needs to be migrated to NCS 1.1.1.24 (NOT NCS 1.1.3!!!!!) before you can migrate to Prime Infrastructure 1.2 or 1.3, because for no readily apparent reason the "ncs migrate" command was removed from PI 1.2 and up. Also note, there is no "Prime Infrastructure 1.1;" they just renamed NCS to Prime Infrastructure after NCS 1.1 because. Yes, the sentence ends there. Great products, all 3, just... agonizing to migrate.)
