/etc/sshd_config out of order?

Leopard has this new GUI feature for allowing only certain users to connect via ssh. On Tiger I used /etc/sshd_config with the AllowUsers directive to define allowed users. The settings in Leopard's System Preferences do not change this file. I gave it a try an added some lines to the sshd_config, but they didn't seem to change system behaviour.
So, is /etc/sshd_config out of order?
What file is affected by allowing certain ssh users by System Prefs?
Hope somebody can shed some light on this …

An old version of iTunes will cause this and mess up the videos on your iPod. Always make sure you always use an up-to-date version of iTunes.

  • Camera roll pictures are out of order after upgrading to iOS 8.1

It's nice that iOS 8.1 brings camera roll back. However, pictures are out of chronological order. I'm using iPhone 5s. I upgraded iOS from 8.0.2 to 8.1, and noticed this issue.

That's weird cause my videos are all interspersed with everything else like they used to be, which unfortunately means it's inconsistently screwing up too.  My pics start with 2007 (first year i got an iphone) then run up to about 2014 vaguely in order, then back to 2013 where everything's all out of order, then down to 2012 again (also out of order), then 2011, 2010, 2009 etc like it's running backwards to 2007.  Then once it hits 2007 again, it jumps to this past july.
    SO aggravating!

  • Is there a way to reorganize out-of-order tracks in iTunes 11?

    Hello all--
In iTunes 10, if an album appeared with the track numbers out of order, I could just click on the track number tab within each individual album and the tracks would be resorted by track number. In iTunes 11, I can't find a way to do the same thing. For example, I imported an album and now it starts out with track 4, then goes to 15, etc., but can't get them to sort sequentially. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I tried looking at one out-of-order album in the "songs" view, based on a similar question, but every time I try to search for the album under "songs" iTunes shows the result under "albums".

here is a link to macosxhints.com that tells you how to output all of your feed URLs to a terminal window. from there you can cut and paste them into your new feed reader of choice...

  • Chapter marker thumbnails getting duplicated, out of order (FCPX 10.1.4)

Group - I use FCPX to compile home movies of my kids, the pets, etc. I use footage from a Canon HD camcorder and an iPhone 6+. I import them into FCPX, trim, transition, maybe throw in some music, and usually put in 40 or so stills (JPEGS) at the end for a slide show.
The project I'm working on now is around 2.5h long after editing and transitions. I put chapter markers at the beginning of each scene, and then drag the pin to set a custom chapter marker thumbnail.
The issue - no matter what I do, I can't seem to get ALL of the thumbnails sorted properly. Meaning, I get one or two out of order, and numerous ones duplicate. I've rebooted, trashed prefs (opt-com start), copied all the clips into a new project and re-rendered, and even deleted them all and manually applied them all again. There are roughly 36 or 37 chapters in this project. I tend to get a different result each time, but with the same general problem.
Sadly, iMovie worked pretty flawlessly for me, but I thought I'd enjoy the added capabilities of FCPX. The rendering time for this movie on a one year old iMac with 24GB RAM is around 7 hours at 720p, so as you can imagine, it's not been a fun project. I've attached a screenshot of the issue on my AppleTV for reference. I've seen a lot of history with this problem, though many threads proclaimed it 'solved'. I'd disagree. Anyone have any thoughts on what I am doing wrong, or is this just more stellar quality control from Apple?
PS - Are there any recommended alternatives to FCPX? I'm noticing I use fewer and fewer Apple-branded apps, I'm starting to see a pattern here.... :^(

    The Rules of Chapter Markers:
*Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the start or end of the timeline.
*Make sure no chapter markers are within a transition.
*Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the end of a transition.
*Make sure you do not have the "Share selected Clips" option checked when preparing to share to iDVD

  • Macintosh HD can't be mounted, keys out of order and repairing can't be completed

    Hi,
English isn't my mother tongue so I'll make my best to be understood.
I have a Macbook Pro from 2012, running on Yosemite (latest version). I installed Onyx which told me my disk needed to be verified and repaired. Following this advice, I restarted my computer with Disk Utility and completed a verifying and repairing. Which led to a terrible outcome. Since then, everytime I boot with my user on my Mac, my computer shuts down in the middle of the progress bar. I tried to find an explanation to it and fix it, so I tried the following things:
    1) I booted with CMD + R to go into Disk Utility
    2) I runned a verify Disk on "Macintosh HD" Core Storage Logical Volume Disk, which didn't give me any error
    3) I unlocked "Macintosh HD" Mounted encrypted partition and runned a verify disk, which says :
    "Keys out of order
The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
File system check exit code is 8.
Error : the disk needs to be repaired, Repair disk."
    4) Unfortunately, the "repair disk" button is grayed.
    5) So I runned repair Disk on  "Macintosh HD" Core Storage Logical Volume Disk, which didn't give me any error.
    6) I tried to boot my computer again but it still shuts down when trying to open my user.
    7) Did all the same process again, but now the error is "Keys length incorrect" and repairing is now always blocked in the middle of the progress bar.
Is there any way I could extract the data I care about (photos, etc.) before erasing the disk or buying a new one?

    There's hardware and software.
Your drive could physically be in good condition but something has caused the file structure to be messed up (it just happens sometimes).  The directory that keep track of files is corrupt.  Disk Utility can help determine if that is the issue.  In some cases it can repair the problem but it cannot do it to a drive that is being used to boot the system while you are doing that.  You have to boot from another drive.  Some things DU cannot repair and you need to try a stronger utility such as Diskwarrior.
A failing hard drive (one with mechanical issues) can be a cause of file structure issues but this is by no means always the case.  Apart from looking at the SMART diagnosis feature of Disk Utility (and smart isn't totally reliable) there often isn't a way to tell if a drive is failing until it suddenly happens, which is why you need to maintain backups.
In your situation it does sound serious and not just minor directory corruption.  You can try erasing (formatting) the drive,  You may need to do this if it is really corrupt, in which case there could be underlying physical issues.  I use old technology but if you have the patience you can try erasing the drive with the security option of writing zeros once (don't do more unless you are going on a 3 week vacation).  This makes the drive not simply assume everything is okay by forcing it try every part of the drive by writing data.  If something is gong wrong you may find it marks a lot of bad sectors, or flat out refuses to format.  Then you know you need a new drive.

  • Final Cut Express occasionally renders audio "out of order"

I'm running into a very occasional problem, which is just rare and random enough to not be recreatable on demand, and so is proving difficult to troubleshoot.
In a nutshell, sometimes - not very often - when I render an audio stream it will report an estimate of 6 hours or more for something even as small as a 1-second transition.  This is not a composite or layered video or audio by any means, just a standard cross-disolve/cross-fade (+3) between two adjacent clips.  When this type of extreme estimate occurs, I may find afterward that rendered audio in the sequence has been moved around, sort of like a shell game.  Usually this anomaly only happens over a minute or less of the project.  Trying to describe this, a portion of the rendered audio from one part of the timeline will replace a portion of rendered audio elsewhere -- as if some audio render segments have gotten linked out-of-order.  If memory serves, the displaced audio so far has always appeared earlier in the timeline than it should.  The replaced audio just doesn't seem to appear anywhere.  So far, if I remove the associated audio render files and re-render, it fixes the problem, but I'm trying to sort out what is causing the behaviour in the first place so that I can take steps to keep it from happening at all.  It raises havoc with trying to meet deadlines when I'm stuck re-rendering sometimes entire segments....
For some details about the environment:
System is a Mac Book Pro, 2.4GHz Intel core duo, 4GB RAM, OSX 10.5.8.
I'm using FCE4, importing SD clips for TV production from Sony cameras (sorry, I'm not part of the camera crew, and I can't recall the exact model number of their cameras - they are all the same model though, configured the same, so no known variables from that end).
The cameras record standard-def MPG (Mpeg layer 2, so yes I convert them before importing into FCE), I convert them using the ffmpeg library.  I tried FFMPEGX, but I find I have far more control over video/audio parameters and combinations with the command-line version.  The parameters I use result in a Quicktime (.mov) file with these parameters: 16-bit integer (little-endian), stereo, 48kHz, DV 720x480 (640x480), Millions (of colors).  FCE is generally quite happy with these parameters, and does not require immediate rendering of the audio or video - unless plugins are applied of course.  As far as plugs, I generally only use the built-in FCE plugs for comp/lim and parametric EQ.  If I have to get much more detailed than that, I'll go to Digital Performer (read on).
In some cases the audio of the original clips is in quite a bad state, and requires far more detailed restoration than FCE can provide.  As I am primarily an audio engineer, I rely on Digital Performer and friends for audio restoration, exporting from there a new clip, usually duplicating the original video (self-contained), though sometimes I do let DP export a reference movie.  Final Cut doesn't seem to have any trouble with the .mov files exported from DP either way, and this anomaly doesn't seem to care whether the clips involved were processed by DP or not.
Disk space, memory, and CPU load are all well within acceptable ranges; and with my previous years of experience as a systems admin, I am well aware of the system impact and ramifications of using internal vs external disks, memory allocation, disk filesystem operating overhead, etc.
As I've mentioned, this is not a show-stopper, I have a work-around to correct it when it happens.  It's just a bit of a bugger *when* it happens, and I really wish I could work out the root cause of it, so that I can take steps to avoid the problem in the first place.  Any suggestions/insight/help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!  :-)

    Thank you for your response.
Grr.  I had a nice response ready to post, and apparently the system logged me out and wouldn't let me log in while keeping the text.  I'll condense it a bit, since I've stumbled across some additional points to ponder while typing.
    The clip:
    And the sequence:
Yes, I see that the clip is 16-bit integer and the sequence supports 32-bit float, but this should not pose a problem since modern digital audio processing up-converts smaller sample formats to larger ones on the fly for processing, and exports whatever format is desired at the end.  If this *was* the problem, I should always be off by a ratio of 2:1 on all audio data, but I'm not.
Additional notes: the system generally has Firewire, USB, and network mounts (all required for my work), and the internal drive (which *is* 7200RPM) is partitioned into a system and a user area to keep audio and video projects out of the system's disk space.  Most main clips for a project are placed on the internal user space for speed, externals hold auxilliary files (stills, adverts, livetype, etc).
It was at this point in my previous typing that I began to realise that the anomaly seems to begin in sync with some random livetype object.  It then extends a bit past the livetype object, so it's not locked to that object; and multiple instances of the same livetype object DO NOT result in multiple instances of the audio anomaly; it only hits a single instance; and again it usually cleans up when the audio render files are removed and re-processed.
This leads me to wonder about a possible odd combination of events/processes on the system, and whether or not FCE handles livetype natively or requires a livetype helper (i.e., another process stuffed into the system table).  This sort of external influence would be a transient sort of event, and therefore could easily be out of the way by the time second render attempt is begun - resulting in the "fix" by removing and re-generating audio render files.
It makes sense to me, but it's still hypothesis and supposition at this point.

  • ITunes U courses listings out of order? Hegarty - Coding Together

Paul Hegarty's iTunes U course named "Coding Together - Apps for iPhone and iPad" lists its courses in a confusing order, it seems. (See image below).  The number system is inconsistently applied and out of order, the dates are jumbled, etc.
How can I know what order to take the courses?  (Believe me, I've tried to find the answer before posting this).

Set your track numbers correctly (by right clicking, clinking 'Get Info' and clicking on the info tab), and make sure you also set the totals (e.g. 12 of 18 - the "of 18" is what I mean by the totals). This sorted it out on my iPod.
This worked for me for my Teaching Company files. They were all jumbled previously because they took the track numbers from the default import from the internet. Once I changed it, no problem.
It would be better if Apple allowed just a dragging, or if there was a quick tool, but at least this works.
I had previously been using "Join Together" for stuff like this. I think I like this method better, though. I can still keep the individual lecture files on a playlist, but not have to worry about all the separate titles in a general listing.

  • Gmail dates out of order

I recented moved from an exchange server to Gmail utilizing IMAP. The problem is that my emails are not in date order on my iphone 5s 7.1 (problem still existed under 7.0.6), but they appear perfectly in Gmail via web, Outlook, and Apple Mail. I can't seem to figure out what order they are actually in. I have exposed the date fields in outlook like date create, modified, received, sent, etc, but even ordering on any of those doesn't explain the sort order on the iPhone.
    Thanks for any input!

  • Artists sync out of order randomly

So I just got the iPhone 4 (not 4S) and i upgraded it to iOS5 and i have iTunes 10. Everything was fine, but out of nowhere sometimes when I sync new songs it pushes all of my artists down out of alphabetical order, making half of my "B" artists under "C", half of my "C" artists under "D", half of my "D" artists under "E", etc etc etc. WHY?! I've had to completely unsync my music and resync it twice now. Not very happy about that.

For the tracks that seem out of order, check the sort order or album artist in the track info. Both can change how songs get listed.

  • Track order of my album out of order

    Hello,
I am having issues with my song order on my itunes.
Usually when I put my songs of a certain album in my itunes and click the album tab at the top the songs are in order by track number in my album, but for one of my albums its in a completely messed up order and I can't figure out why.
What I have tried so far:
-I used the "get info" and made sure that the track number is there in order (1-20) for each song.
-For the track number I also tried listing it as 1 of 20, 2 of 20, 3 of 20...etc but it has no effect.
-I used "get info" and tried typing 1 of 1 for the disc number for each song in my album but it did nothing so I changed it back to what it was, (it doesn't say anything)
-I even renamed my songs starting with a 1-20 corresponding to its track number, nothing changed.
-I even did this to the song files on my computer with windows media player so the files themselves have the correct track number and numbering in song name, I used the "Advanced tag editor" on WMP.
    - I sync songs manually by dragging the songs into my "music" under my ipod, not my itunes library, this always worked except for this album, I tried syncing my songs about 5 or so times
-I use a windows XP 2005 edition and the new nano ipod
    Other info:
-The album name is the same for each song, so all the songs are in the same album.
-It is set to album, not album by year or artist or anything else.
-It is not on shuffle, the order is physically out of order so when i play it on "play once" or similar it's suppose to go on to the next song in that track order but since it's in a messed up order it plays in that messed up order where normally on a normal un-messed up order album it would play the next track number in order since it is in order on my itunes.
    Other info 2:
-I do not want to make a playlist, I want the album in order on my itunes so when I'm using my ipod I can just go that album and play the songs according to track number.
-The reason why I want it into order a lot is because this album is a "gapless megamix" which means when the songs transaction into the next song is unnoticeable since the song transact into the next song without pausing, so basically it is like one big, one hour song when actually composed of 20 songs, so the album must be in order.
So in a nut shell I just want my album's songs to be in track order.
    Thanks

Sorry for double posting but I wanted this to be in a different post
Ok, after hours and hours of hurting my head I found the solution to this.
The problem is that in the "sort" tab under the "get info" section is that there are 2 sections for artists, one is just "artist" and the other is "album artist."
When you erase the "album artist" the track number reorders itself correctly, so I just needed to leave "artist" and delete the "album artist."
Now my track order is not messed up.
Hopefully this may help other people who are having the same issue.

  • Out of order when put /take packages in/from a blocking queue

    Hello all:
I put multiple packages in a blocking queue in one thread, and take them out from another thread. The in sequence is 1-2-3, the out sequence becomes 3-2-1. This is NOT a FILO pattern, there is no pattern: it could be 3-1-2, etc.
The question is: can out-of-order issue even take place when put()/take() operations impose on a blocking queue? If it's not possible, which I believe, I'll look elsewhere for the cause. Otherwise, why and how to fix it.
    Thanks,

  • Printing is out of order

I have a new 15 in. Macbook Pro. and an ancient hp deskjet 845c printer. On my windows computer I had no problems and on the new mac my printing is a little screwy. For example I just printed off about 5 different documents in .pdf form through preview. In each the order was backwards for me. If my document had 3 pages, I would expect the order to be 1st page - or title, 2nd, and 3rd, as was lined up in the document. Instead it prints 3, 2, 1, with the title page on the bottom. I'm sure this is an easy fix, maybe I setting to be tweaked somewhere but apparently I don't know enough about it, any ideas?

That's a function of the printer driver.
1 Select the Print dialog by typing command-P or by selecting 'Print' from the File menu.
2 The Print dialog appears. If it is in 'collapsed' mode, select 'full' mode by clicking on the triangle to the right of the printer's name.
3 If the Print dialog is in 'full' mode, look for a pull-down menu with the name of the application you're running; if you're in the Finder, look for 'Finder', if you're in Safari, look for 'Safari', etc.
4 Pull down the menu and look for 'Paper Handling'. Select that. The Print dialog should change.
5 Depending on which printer you use, there should be two or three new pull-down menus at the bottom of the Print dialog. Look for one which says 'Page Order' or similar; the exact wording will vary depending on which printer you are using. There should be two or three options. Select 'Reverse Order' or wording similar.
6 Print. The pages should appear in the order you wish. If they don't, try one of the other options.
Note that typically the printer driver will try to print pages so that when you pick up the printed document, page 1 is uppermost. Some printers print with the output coming out face up; they would usually print the last page first and the first page last, in the order 5-4-3-2-1. Some printers print with the output coming out face down; they normally print with the first page first and the last page last, in the order 1-2-3-4-5.
Depending on the printer there may be other options, including printing out of order, printing just some pages, printing in booklet order, and printing upside down.
Note that your printer is an older one, and printer drivers supplied from HP may be minimal; you may get better drivers from the HPIJS Project <http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpij s%23Printers> or GutenPrint <http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php>. Both 3rd-party sources support the DJ845.

  • Why do my photographs get out of order after I burn them to a CD-R?

Why do my photographs get out of order after I burn them to a CD-R?  They are in a folder in desktop and in order before I burn the CD.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hi there,
I don't know if it's too late to help, but I had this same problem and have found a solution that does not involve an iPhoto-only-CD or a slideshow.  So for future users with this issue:
The photos get out of order because iPhoto's software arranges them superficially as you please, but when you put them back in an ordinary folder the computer wants to arrange them by date or file name (the original file name).  You're not doing anything wrong, it's just the difficult thing about switching between an application and file storage on the finder.
The word you're looking for is Export, under the file menu in iPhoto.
Make a new folder on the desktop (or wherever).   Use the Export function under file.  A box should appear.  Choose the quality of JPeg you want, etc.  This next part is key:  if you set the "File Name" bar to "Sequential" the photos will be renamed in your order when they are sent to your new folder.  This way, even if they are sorted by name they will appear in the order you want.  You can also put a prefix on it, for instance "Paris-" would give you files named "Paris-01", "Paris-02" etc.  Now you should be able to burn the new folder on a disk using the usual methods.  And your PC friends will be able to see it!
P.S. you could also just upload the ablum to flickr, facebook, or something in the cloud and keep your order that way.  But if you want a hard copy this is way is handy.

  • Weird "keys out of order" problem

So, keys out of order was new to me, but I've read up about possible fixes... My situation seems strange, here's why...
I was working on my dual 1.8 G5, 10.4.11, clicked on a video link, then got the greyed out screen, and the multilingual restart message.
So, I did several restarts, but the fans would go to full, and it would shut down before showing any activity on screen. So I entered single user mode, and typed the command for checking the disk (thankfully I could get info from the web on my macbook). That's when the 'keys out of order' message was first seen. After reading up I tried to run the fsck thing, which I read could be an option. I got an 'unable to repair' message. Then I put my workmates machine into target disk mode and started from that disk and tried to run disk utility over my startup disk, of course it didn't work, with several warnings in read about keys out of order etc.
So I'm learning that DiskWarior is probably my best bet, but in the meantime I put my machine in target disk mode, and using a handy hint I found online, dsragged out my g3 iMac, booted it into OS9, extensions off. Connected by firewire, my G5 HD showed up and I was able to drag off some recent files, Mail folder etc. (At this point let me say I did a system back to a DMG file on a separate partition of an external USB drive several months ago, and that maybe 99% of my work and important files are on another external drive, so it's not life and death here.)
NOW... comes the strange part. I go back to my machine, and just for a lark try to start it up again.... and it starts up fine, no problems, everything normal. Wow I think, I'll go and run disk utility over it now, so I restart using my friends powermac, and run said program, and get exactly the same errors, keys out of order. hmmm.
So I go back to my machine, restart using its own system, all good, all fine. So I plug in another external HD and do a clone of the internal drive while its all working fine.
So, since then its been running fine, (about a day and a half). But what should I do, and what's going on? Should I reformat my drive and out the earlier cloned system on it? Would the recent system clone I did likely be corrupt? Does it seem right that my system should work OK now, when Disk Utility was still reporting keys out of order? Should I pony up and buy DiskWarrior? (can't really afford to to be honest)
I'm a bit flummoxed, thanks for any help...

Hi, weird but not completely inexplicable.
Indeed Disk Warrior is your best bet, IMHO every Mac oener should have it.
I wouldn't completely trust any clone/backup once you get that error.
Generally the only real fix for that error is DW, or Zeroing your drive & reinstalling.
