A line over 400 characters long just might be too much for
Dir 5.
You might try using the line continuation char for that
version of Director,
¬ (hit Alt+Enter in the script editor if I recall
correctly).
If it's still no go, try concatenation. You wouldn't need to
break it down
this short, but for illustration:
set a=" 0:00
set a=a &"0:00 InitGame:

set a=a

Is there something that I can put at the end of each value so that I avoid the "Expected expression but found end of line" error?
Thanks!
Sam

You didn't need to post the entire script - just an example of the list format would have done
Anyway, AppleScript uses option-return as a 'soft' return/line continuation character, so:
set mymailList to {¬
"[email protected]",¬
"[email protected]",¬
"[email protected]
(where ¬ indicates an option-return) will work. I'm just not sure off hand how you'd automatically insert option-return characters coming out of Excel...

• File adapter: End of line issue in unix receiver

Hi all,
We are sending flat files using File Adapter (FTP) with the File content conversion functionality and we can see the file right in our windows system, but when it arrives to the Unix receiver, they give us an error regarding the End of line.
It has a ^M character in every line so it cannot be processed.
Does anyone know how to skip this end of line character in our file keeping the same format?
Thanks in advance.

• How to fix Syntax Error: Expected end of line, etc. but found end of script. in applescript?

I am making an applescript for my modding tool for Minecraft. It used to use multiple apps and I am now trying to make one app for all the tasks.
Here is the code:
say "You are running iCraft version one point one for minecraft version 1.2.5"
display dialog "Which tool do you want to use?" buttons {"Mod Installer", "Backup", "Restore"} default button 3
set the button_pressed to the button returned of the result
if the button_pressed is "Mod Installer" then
do shell script "~/desktop/iCraft/iCraft.app/contents/re…
display dialog "Insert all mod files into the Mods folder."
display dialog "Have you inserted all Mod files into the Mods folder?" buttons {"Yes", "No"} default button 2
if the button_pressed is "Yes" then
do shell script "~/desktop/iCraft/iCraft.app/contents/re…
display dialog "Finished"
else
display dialog "Insert mod files into the Mods folder and restart iCraft.app."
end if
if the button_pressed is "Backup" then
display dialog "Are you sure you want to backup your Minecraft.jar in it's current state?" buttons {"Yes", "No"} default button 2
if the button_pressed is "Yes" then

display dialog "Finished, find it in your Backups directory in the iCraft folder"
else
display dialog "Backup aborted"
end if
if the button_pressed is "Restore" then
display dialog "Are you sure you want to restore your Minecraft.jar with your backup?" buttons {"Yes", "No"} default button 2
if the button_pressed is "Yes" then
do shell script "~/desktop/iCraft/iCraft.app/resources/s…
else
display dialog "Restore aborted"
end if
end
When I try to compile/run it gives me Syntax Error: Expected end of line, etc. but found end of script.

Your script got mangled when pasting it into your message, but the main problem looks like you are missing a bunch of end if statements. Unless your if statements are contained on one line, you need to terminate them with a matching end if statement - for example, the following are equivalent:
if someString is "whatever" then display dialog "foo"
if someString is "whatever" then
display dialog "foo"
end if

I am running InDesign CS5.5 and trying to open an In Design File but getting an error message. " Cannot open the file "PDavidLCover.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file me be open in another application."Please help I really need to get this file open.

Since you've shown us the folder contents it's a good bet it isn't in use (no lock file). And it doesn't look like the file is mis-named as there doesn't seem to be anything else there that would be the .indd file (but just in case, open it in TextEdit and paste the first few lines here so we can see what the file header says), so the most likely case is the file is damaged. Is that on a removable device of some sort?
You can try the tool at Repair corrupt InDesign Adobe files on Mac OS X or send me a link to the file by private message and I'll try the recovery tool I have for Windows.

• Help with error message: Expected end of line but got identifier

The following is a calculated applescript step in a Filemaker script. It tells iCal to go to the date of an iCal event that the script has previously created from Filemaker. The code below keeps generating an error message: "Expected end of line but got identifier." Note: "ACTIVITY::Date" below is Filemaker's way of indicating the file name (ACTIVITY) and the field in question (date). Help appreciated.
"tell application \" iCal\" ¶
activate ¶
switch view to month view ¶
set theDate to date \"" & ACTIVITY::Date & "\" ¶
view calendar at theDate ¶
end tell"

It's not clear exactly what you're aiming for here, so it's not easy to tell you how to fix it.
At first glance I'd say you're missing a quote symbol or two, but even then it doesn't make a lot of sense without more context - for example, 'ACTIVITY::Date' isn't valid as an AppleScript variable name (you can't have a : in a variable name), and your code isn't within a Filemaker block, so it doesn't appear to relate to Filemaker, either.
In either case the only thing that looks remotely valid to me would be:
set theDate to date "\"" & ACTIVITY::date & "\""
but without knowing the context of ACTIVITY::Date it's impossible to tell if this is valid, or how it differs from:
set theDate to date ACTIVITY::Date
(i.e., why the quotes are needed at all)

However, even it its original state the build fails under 10.4.10 and the current version of Applescript. Error is "expected end of line but found identifier" in one of the scripts. See screenshot:
I don't understand why this Applescript is not compiling - has there been syntax changes in Applescript which stop this compiling? What is the correct syntax?

Perform a 'Find, Find in Project...' menu item ('Command <shift> F') search for 'Abstract object', and replace such with 'item'.
However, once this resolves the compiling problem, you will experience a slew of AppleScript errors, when utilizing the compiled application.
Note: Even the downloadable (pre-complied) 'iDVD Companion' application file has its share of incompatibilities.

Hi guys,
I'm getting the end-of-file on communcation channel error when running the following query in SQL PLUS, If run it in a stored procedure called through code of JDBC, it gave "no more data to read from socket" error. Any idea what went wrong? kind of frustrated now. We are using the Oralce 9.0.1.4.0, which suppose to fix some sdo_uion and sdo_buffer bugs. Thanks a lot!!

Hi Daniel,
Just tried the 9.2.0.2 patch, seems to work better now. At least I don't get the end-of-file on communication channel error. But how about the speed thing? I isolated the problem, and find out that sdo_aggr_union is taking too long to finish( 1 Hour!!! for 2300 lines with the same city. Any clue to optimize it, I tried some hint like /*+ordered*/ No_Merge and something like that, does not improve though. • Format file error, can't fix it!

Hello, I need to import data from text file.I'm using BULK INSERT + format file because I need to skip some fields in my data file.
But I can't fix error appearing during query execution, I've tried to find the answer in the Internet, but didn't succeed.
This is my text datafile: (example of record: 12 fields delimited by $, row is terminated with $ too, some of them are empty as you can see from this example))
5045669$1007449353$PS$TEAM$1$TRY$$$$UNKNOWN$$21226$
This is the format of my table in database:
[id, name, transaction_id] created with the following query:
USE MyDB;
GO
CREATE TABLE dbo.table1
id int NOT NULL,
name varchar(50) NOT NULL,
transaction_id int PRIMARY KEY NOT NULL
GO
in this table:
"transaction_id" should match 1st field in datafile (5045669 in my example)
"name" = 4th field (TEAM in my example)
"id" = 2nd field in datafile (1007449353 in ex.)
all other fields must be skipped.
I use myformat.fmt file, created manually:
9.0
12
2 SQLINT 0 4 "$" 1 id ""
4 SQLCHAR 2 50 "$" 2 name SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS

11 SQLINT 0 4 "$" 0 Extra ""
12 SQLINT 0 4 "$" 0 Extra ""
I'm doing my import using this query:
BULK INSERT MyDB.dbo.table1
FROM 'C:\Documents and Settings\Наташа\project\data\data.TXT'
WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR='$', ROWTERMINATOR='$',
FORMATFILE='C:\Documents and Settings\Наташа\project\data\myformat.fmt');
GO
but I obtain the following error:
Msg 4823, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot bulk load. Invalid column number in the format file "C:\Documents and Settings\Наташа\project\data\myformat.fmt".
I don't know how to fix it! I tried to check whether I was inprecise while creating format file, but it seems to me that everything is correct, I've put myformat.fmt into the same directory with my text datafile (it was in "C:\SQL Server Management Studio\Projects" folder initially), but I still get this error.
Help me, please

Is this still an issue?

• SOA Suite 11g File Adapter End Of Line problem

I am using a file adapter to read(using an NXSD to convert from flat file to XML) a file do some filtering and then write the file in the original format using the same NXSD.
The records in my file are separated by End Of Line. i.e. each line is one record.
I created a fixed length NXSD and it picks up '${eol}' as the cellSeparatedBy attribute.
When I read the file, it reads fine for both Unix(LF) and PC(CR+LF) formats. But when I write it automatically takes unix format most probably because the server is running on a Unix machine.
Now the problem is that when I receive a flat file in PC format, the output comes as Unix format. The end system can not process it.
So, I tried using '
' (Equivalent to CR+LF) instead of '${eol}' as the value of attribute cellSeparatedBy. With this it is not able to read the file at all, if I keep it only '
' then it reads. It seems that while reading FIle Adapter automatically converts the file to Unix format first and then reads it with unix EOL.
As a work around I separated the NXSD for read and write, keep read NXSD with '${eol}' while keeping write NXSD as '
' then my problem is solved but now I have two NXSDs to maintain.
What I want to know is if there is a way I can use the same NXSD and still be able to write the file in PC format. May be some attribute or switch in NXSD which I dont know of to control the value of ${eol}?

Hi Daniel,

• ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel ERROR

After applying Database patch 3095277 to my 9.2.0.1.0 installation
in order to update it to 9.2.0.4.0,I'm getting ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
ERRORS when attempting various tasks. This is a local installation running on a Windows XP Workstation.
I've even tried creating a new test database but the result is the same.
The reason for moving up to 9.2.0.4.0 is so I can start using Advanced Queuing, which I understand had problems in earlier releases.
However before the update I could at least create the JMS queue tables without ERROR whereas now I get the following errors when attempting to create a queue table in SQL Plus from within Enterprise Manager Console.
SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production on Thu Sep 18 08:20:08 2003

ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE
I would be grateful of any pointers as to how to resolve this problem.
Regards
Gary.

Chris, Thanks for the suggestion,
I took a look in the trace log and found the following entries that point to a ORA-00600 as you mentioned earlier.
This is only a test database so there's no great loss if
I have to re create it, but in saying that I did create a new test02 from scratch and had the same problem.
Is it posible something went wrong when applying the 9.2.0.4.0 patch ?.
Regards
Gary.

In print this shouldn't be a problem. On screen it is because of screen-anti-aliasing.
Unfortunately, this is not the case.
I received the test prints back and they exhibit exactly the same errors as the PDF file viewed on screen.
scan files of sample prints from PDF file (sorry for the multiple pages, the test print is too big to fit on my scanner):

The effect is reduced by selecting "draw hidden faces," but not eliminated. The number of blend steps also affects the amount of the error that is manifested, but again, does not eliminate the error.
The only way to eliminate the error is to use the exact same color for both stroke and fill.
Depending on the shape, that may or may not be an issue.
The Illustrator and Acrobat product teams will need to fight it out as to which is responsible for the error but from the customer perspective, the error has only one logo: Adobe.

• AppleScript Error: "Expected end of line but found identifier."

Hi everyone,
I'm new to applescript and can't seem to figure out the error here.
Info: Using Hazel and iFlicks 2 Applications for this process.
tell application "iFlicks 2" to launch
delay 7
tell application "iFlicks 2"
update theFile dbID without gui
end tell
I get the error "Expected end of line but found identifier." for the red text.
theFile reffers to the file that the actions are to be preformed on. This is a Hazel thing.
Thank you!

You need to look in the "iFlicks 2" dictionary. This line isn't matching the syntax found in the dictionary. I find reading a dictionary nearly impossible.

• Weird ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel error

Hi,
I am running a simple select distinct query (actually it is a little complex), and when I run it I keep getting the ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel error. Now it has been working fine all time until today. I checked the trace files that it generated but nothing stands out. It is only this one specific query that kills it. I checked on Metalink, but no help there. Can someone please shed some light on this.

So last night I started to think it might just be the query that is giving us the problem so I started to work on the query and came across something very interesting. This is the query that the user is using:
SQL> select distinct
2 rqms.ALERT_ID_NEW as ALERT_ID, (site.NAME || ' (' || site.COUNTRY_REGION || ')') as Customer,
3 rqms.START_DTTM as Time, RPAD(rqms.SUM_NODE_WDTIME/60, 18) as Weighted_Downtime,
4 RPAD( (rqms.SUM_NODE_DURATION/60) ||' min.', 15) as Duration, rpad(al.CL_PART_NO, 15) as Product,
5 rpad(al.CL_REVISION, 10) as Revision, case.title
6 from csalert.alert_call_info al, csalert.ALERT_INCIDENTS ai, clarify.cs_case case,
7 clarify.cs_site site, csalert.rqms_incidents rqms, CLARIFY.CS_PRODUCT_INFORMATION prod
8 where al.ALERT_ID = ai.ALERT_ID
9 and al.srid = case.case_id
10 and case.CSR_CALLERSITE = site.CALLERSITE_OBJID
11 and al.alert_id = rqms.alert_id
12 and case.CSR_HARDWARE_PART = prod.PRODUCTINFORMATION_OBJID
13 and (prod.FAMILY = 'Services Edge Router' or prod.FAMILY = 'SHASTA')
14 and al.START_DTTM >= trunc(sysdate - 1)
15 order by (site.NAME || ' (' || site.COUNTRY_REGION || ')')
16 /
If you look at line 14 with the trunc statement...well it seems like when I tried to re-write this query piece by piece, it would work, but as soon as I would bring back this line it would fail with the error mentioned in this postings.
This morning I came in and the user is complaining about another query acting the same way. So I performed the same steps as I did above and would you believe it...the new query also had a couple of lines where it used the trunc function. I removed them and re-ran the query with 100% success. So since the patch was applied, it seems like we are having problems with the trunc function it would seem like. This problem has gotten to just plain weird for me. I am completly lost here now.
What do you think?
