Evaluating each other plug-in???

This forum is all about helping each other succeed in writting plug-in, but what comes after you created a great plug-in (so you think and tell your wife), but is it really what people need? Where's the green in your pocket after many sleepless nights debuging your code?
So, I wanted to start this thread for those of us who wanted to share and evaluate each other's work and finally get it out there and sell, sell, sell!!!
For starter, I just got my first plug-in online, please download and provide feed back.
Please post your plug-in here so everyone can download and test it for you.
I, my self, have time to test yours. User's oppinion matters, we are developers and users too!
My web site:

Hello Vincent,
First, let me say that your marquetry work is beautiful. It's very exciting that your work in wood has led you to Ai and programming.
Just so you know who I am, my name is Brendon and I'm the lead developer at Hot Door, Inc. Our main plug-in is CADtools and has been in the market for about 15 years.
Here is my feeback:
Your site looks great and immediately makes me think that I can trust your product and that it will have cool features - which is a good thing. But, once I started to use the site, I had concerns. My first reaction was "Where's the Mac version?" I clicked the download link and unzipped the file only to find a bunch of Windows files. So, it would be nice if it was clearer on your site that this is for Win only. I know on the side it says Mac is coming soon, but I would rather have the button say "Download Windows Version" instead of just "Download." Also, why does your zip file have such a convoluted name? If I wasn't a programmer, your file name would scare me. "ArtBluePro.zip" is cool. "FILE_CFD91C-1728E8-149014-145BB4-B6CB6E-F8465A-2" is not. Next, in your description of ArtBlue Standard, it says it is the "affordable" version of ArtBlue. What, you mean that ArtBlue Pro is not affordable? That doesn't really make me think the Pro version is a good value. It would be better to describe it as full featured, then describe the Pro version as having "Even more cool stuff!" Never tell the customer that one of your products costs too much. Also, _PLEASE_ post a phone number on your site. So many companies decide to go email only for support. It frustrates users to no end. Just think how you would feel if you couldn't call someone whenever you need help. When I started Hot Door, I forwarded all calls to my cell phone and answered it at all hours, even in the middle of the night. Things change as your company matures, but if you really want this thing to get some traction, keep your customers happy by being there for them!
Now, once I downloaded the software, I was really surprised to not see CS6 or CC. I know from your other posts that you are currently looking into supporting them, but it's been a couple years now and users expect you to keep up. I know it's hard to keep up - we've been trying to keep up with Adobe for 15 years - but customers really do appreciate it. Once I had it installed, it took a few minutes for me to figure out where your panels were. I would suggest opening your panels by default. I mean the user _just_ installed your plug-in. Stick the panels right in the middle of the screen! It's easy enough for them to move where they want. At least they'll know you _have_ panels. In addition, I really could not figure out the ArtTrack panel. The icons were way too small. There's no reason to keep them that small. Your panels aren't that big and users have big screens. A couple more pixels won't hurt.
Feature wise, I think the plug-in is pretty cool. It does some neat stuff and I'm sure there are many users that will benefit from them.
And, your User Guide is great. Users really do appreciate a complete User Guide and I think it goes a long way toward making your product appear professional.
So, that's it. I think that with a couple small changes to your site and panels, you've got a really nice product.
Keep at it!

  • 2 Airport Expresses Next to each other

    Hi guys
We have 2 Airport expresses next to each other plugged in on the same extention cable, with 2 ethernet cables plugged into them going to the same ethernet hub in the wall.
Should this affect either of the Airports???
    Thanks
    Fiona

The only problem you will run into is if both devices transmit on the same channel - you will then get interference with will make it difficult to communicate with either device. Therefore, run the Airport Admin Utility and under the Airport tab manually set the channel each one uses - each should be assinged a channel that is three channels away from the other.

  • HT5219 Can I plug an HDMI tv to my mac using thunderbolt and how I get them to recognise each other

Hi, I just bought the thunderbolt connection to mt HD tv but neither will read each other fully. I get some response but no picture

Grey background or the desktop background?  Do you have full screen mode enabled?  If so turn it off.
If you are seeing the desktop backgound on both screens your tv connection is working and if the menu bar is on one screen and not the other you are running the screens in extended display mode.
About Arrangements, Menu Bar, Extended Displays, and Mirrored Displays
When you have multiple monitors (and the TV is considered just a monitor) only one monitor is designated as the "main" monitor.  That's the one with the menu bar.
If you look at the Arrangement tab in your Displays preferences you will see both monitors.  One will have a little white "menu bar" on it.  That's your main monitor.  You can drag the little menu bar to the other monitor if you wish to make it the main monitor.
You cannot make both monitors main monitors.  However there is a third party app called MenuEverywhere that allows you to do that (it has mixed reviews).
Your two monitors can be spatially arranged with the Arrangement in Displays as well.  Drag the monitors around each other to define their relationship.  Then you can drag the mouse or windows across with in that "space".  This is extended desktop mode and I recommend that to be able to use all the available screen real estate.  However there is a checkbox in the Arrangement to run in mirrored mode.  Now the two images are identical on both screens albeit the max screen size is determined by the smallest screen in the mirrored set.  You would of course have the menu bar on both screens since they are mirrors of each other.  But I think it's a waste of good screen real estate.

  • My MacBook Air (2011) and my iMac (2008) can no longer see each other.

    Hi
My WiFi is via a TimeCapsule which seems to work perfectly well with the Apple TV, Hot plugs for the TV and my iPhone/iPad but my two computers (above with Mavericks operating system) can't see each other any more.  It's been about a week now.  I have restarted both of them but to no avail.  My MacBook Air has alternate backups to a local USB connected hard drive and Time Capsule and both are working fine.  I've tried looking in System Preferences to see if something's turned off but can't find what I'm looking for.  I tried changing the settings in Airport Utility but that made things worse so I've reverted to the original "Bridge Off" mode.  What has happened or have I inadvertently turned off?
    Many thanks

What I can not see in this case is why it seems to be limited to just one Buddy on each computer.
As the Block list (And therefore presumably Allow Lists) are not actually shown in the .p0list I ma hoping that deleting it and restarting ichat at one end at least will reset that iChat form the Defaults haled in the app when you do this.
(you could delete that Account Screen Name from iChat ? Preferences > Accounts to achieve the same things in a more destructive way as it would tend to rewrite all the .plists which may included Jabber ones that are OK
We both did delete our screen names in iChat, and also deleted ALL the prefs manually.
Also, we've tried using entirely different computers to log-in to those same accounts, with the same results - somehow we're blocked from each other.
I think we're both giving up at this stage. We have additional accounts we can use to see each other. But it would be really nice to get to the bottom of it, because if it happens once it can happen again. Who knows? Maybe there are other people in my buddy list that this is happening with right now, but we don't know it. This person just happens to be someone I chat with a lot, and we noticed we weren't seeing each other.

  • My iPod and iTunes seem to hate each other

They're just not hitting it off. They don't like talking to each other, both seem prone to going into long electronic sulks, and chucking crockery at each other can only be round the corner.
Ok, serious head on for full story. Short version: iTunes 7 won't sync with our 4th generation iPod. Sometimes it won't sync at all. Other times it'll get to a certain point and gets stuck on a particular song, and Force Quitting iTunes is the only way we can eject it safely so none of the songs end up on the iPod. Very frustrating when you've got up to 941 out of 5000 plus songs. Along the way we've tried the five Rs, had various unknown error messages (1428 seems to be a favourite), and had the folder + ! sign (now gone again).
The long version: Got a new car stereo that's iPod compatible right out of the box, and we felt that having our entire music collection on tap was more appealing than faffing around with a CD changer. The Mac we bought a few months ago had iTunes 6, and other than locking up a few times it was happy to import 300+ CDs. So far, so good.
Next step, we got a second hand iPod, and this is where the aggro started. It's a 4th Gen 60GB model, and we immediately ran into difficulties because it had been used with a Windows PC. iTunes 6 didn't want to know, so looked online and found we needed to update to iTunes 7. Did that, only to find we then needed to update OSX as well. At this point I started getting all misty eyed and nostalgic for the old Windows PC - I mean I've still got ancient Win95 stuff that worked ok on Win2K. I really didn't expect this much aggro when we switched to Mac. Anyhoo, did the OSX update (which took days since there's no broadband available where we live), and finally we could get the iPod plugged in. Needed to do a restore on the drive, but that went smoothly. Then we went out and left it syncing.
Sinking more like. It got stuck on the 941st song not long after we got home, and while we were looking we got an error message saying we'd disconnected it without ejecting first. We hadn't touched the iPod, which was still sat in is dock, but as far as it was concerned it had been pulled out. Which meant that we needed to restore it. Again. Which it didn't want to do. After many attempts we found that forcing it into disc mode allowed us to restore it properly. Then tried to sync again, but only with one album to kick off with. That worked ok, so we tried another 2 albums. Got stuck again halfway through the second, but we were able to eject it semi-properly so that resetting worked. At this rate 20+GB of music is going to take so long to get through that our furniture will be antiques before we're done. Nnnnnnnnnnn.
Next attempt got to just over 800 songs synced before it got stuck again. This time it left the Mac completely unresponsive, which meant another restore. After that I went beck to trying one album at a time. One went on okay, the next stuck on the first song. At this point we've given up trying to suss it out ourselves and have come here for help. Is it worth trying iTunes 6 again? 7 has locked up the computer when the iPod wasn't even in the dock, and although this happened a couple of times when we were importing CDs into iTunes 6 I wonder if the older version might be more stable. What else can we try that we haven't had a go at already?
Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

  • Computers can't see each other after installing E3000

I've found several previous posts regarding my issue, but none of them have led me to a solution to my problem. Here is my problem. I have a small home network that I was able to share file and printers on, now I puchased and install a Cisco E3000 and my computers can no longer see each other. My current configurations is as such: I use DSL and have a 2 wire DSL modem with wireless capabilities. This particular modem has a port for the phone line and a port for local ethernet. I've taken the local ethernet and plugged in the internet port of the E3000. All computers can reach the internet but they cannot see each other. I've verified that file and print sharing is enabled on all computers. In fact if I remove the E3000 from the configuration and place them back onto the 2wire wireless connection they see each other. So I'm pretty certain that the firewall software on each PC will allow file and printer sharing. So that leads me to believe that my problem is in the E3000. It is perhaps blocking the network discovery protocol or something. Does anyone have any ideas how I can resolve this problem? Any help is appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks Showguy82 that seems to have worked by allowing my computers on the network to appear under network tap in windows explorer.  However I'm still not able to access the computers. Something is being blocked by the E3000 because I completely disabled the fire wall on my PCs and still couldn't access them. Do you perhaps know what should be changed in the E3000 to allow access to the computers. Thanks for your help.

  • Computers on network can't see each other and can't communicate

I have a Linksys router, WRT54G, which calls itself wireless but has only wired connections.   I have my computer and my phone (for Vonage service) plugged into it.    My router is then connected to the household router by a CAT 5 cable.   The household router is also a Linksys; wireless and with plugs for a half dozen computers.
I get teh Internet fine with no problem, but we want to share my printer on the household network.   My housemate cannot see me on the household network and can't see my router either, and can't communicate with my computer with the \\Name command.   I can't see the household network and can't communicate with my housemate's computer with the \\Name command.
I am running Windows Firewall.   I am sure that so is my housemate.
Is there something special we have to do to set up our routers for the household network to work properly?
It looks like I'm supposed to configure my router to communicate with another router instead of connect directly to the Internet, but when I tried htat and enabled interactive adjusting or whatever I suddenly couldn't access the Intenet and my phone couldn't get a dial tone, until I changed it back.
Tehre isn't any explanation of how to do it anywhere.   There aer technical descriptions of what each thing does but I don't see where it says how to set it up or how to troubleshoot.
I don't know if we were supposed to set up networks and manually add each other's computers.  Apparently my housemate did not have to do that with his wife's computer or his notebook.    They just show up in the network.
    Yours,
    Dora

Thanks for your help.   Unfortunately between when I last looked at your name and when I managed to reply I forgot your name.
    1.  For the option that the parts of the network can see each other, you plug the cable into the OUTGOING port of the SECONDARY router?    That doesn't make a whole lot of sense; how cuold that possibly work?  The way I understand it, the signal can come in only through the incoming plug, which you call the "internet" plug, if I'm understanding you.
    2.  If you choose the setup that makes any sense - the cable is plugged into the incoming plug - the "internet" plug - on the secondary router, and the ethernet connection on the primary router, can all the computers see each other and their resources, ie, printers they want to share?
    3.  If not, why on earth?
    4.  for the second option, it looks like some steps are missing.   Why don't you need to disable DHCP and set the router to be a secondary router?
PM me for my contact details.
    Thanks!
    Yours,
    Dora Smith

  • VGA and HDMI ports are next to each other; any VGA cable blocks HDMI port; want 3 displays.

The VGA & HDMI ports are right next to each other on the left side of the laptop.  I ultimately would like to connect two monitors to it, but am unable to occupy both ports because the everyday end of a VGA cable/extender is too wide. Any solutions?

Hi, Firstly you won't get 3 displays without buying more hardware for your dv7 that why you won't be able to plug 2 ports at the same time. Regards.

  • Spry and Flash not liking each other

I'm currently working on a small site for a commercial
director and the client wants it where when you rollover the
thumbnail images for his commercials, they grow a bit and that's a
perfect use for Spry's Grow/Shrink effect. Only problem is once I
add this effect, the Flash movie completely disappears from the
page and the rest of the contents moves up. So you don't even get a
    blank square.
    Here's what I'm talking about:
    http://www.josephimartinez.com/commercials/index.html
and here's a page without Spry where the video shows up:
    http://www.josephimartinez.com/commercials/index2.html
I know there are problems with Flash and JavaScript not
playing nice with each other. Especially on pages that utilize
Javascript dropdown menus and they can collide with Flash movies.
Is this similar? Seems even worse to me.

Does it stop you from loading and playing the game? I get similar errors every time I start anything wine related. The exact same messages come up when I have a MIDI to USB device plugged in on one machine and for some reason again on another because wine confuses my internal modem as a sound card. I ignore it and everything still works fine so it might not be something to worry about.
Quite honestly, their probably just a result of a hack in there alsa code. They probably don't properly differentiate sound devices and just assume that everything detected as sound related is a sound card. So wine gets a little confused when things don't, say, support mixing.
If its preventing you from playing the game, I don't think this is the show stopper.

  • Mac Mini and MacBook can't 'see' each other on the network

I have an 'old' Mac Mini set up to the Airport Extreme base station via ethernet cable and can happily connect to the internet. I also have a MacBook that connects wirelessly to the AEBS. A couple of things frustrate me..
Although I can connect to the internet from the Mini the Airport Utility can rarely find the base station so any diagnostics are impossible.
Also, the two macs are unable to find each other over the network. Both have personal file sharing turned on in the prefs. Occasionally the MacBook identifies my Mini on the network but when I try and connect (clicking on the alias) i get the "the alias XXX's computer could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found".
This is frustrating as I would like to share/copy files over the network.
Is there something simple I am missing?

A couple of things to check.
The Mini will need to have file sharing turned on.
And the appropriate holes in its firewall set.
It should be assigned its IP number by DHCP.
It should not be plugged into the WAN port on the
    AEBSn.
    Using Terminal (on the mini)
You should be able to PING the other computer,
And you should be able PING a computer on the
    internet.
    ie. apple.com
    Hi
File sharing is on and firewall is off. As I mentioned I have connection to the internet and can ping apple.com. It is not plugged into the WAN port on the AEBSn - the modem is plugged in there. The IP is assigned by DHCP
I can ping the macbook (when the alias is in Finder) but I get a "connection failed...server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again" when I try to connect.

  • Mac book pro power adapter mixed to each other how to identify

dear i am facing some issue in our office .
issue is our macbook pro charger has mixed to each other.
for that i am facing some charer support issue when it is not working.
    how can i identify .
I have  more than 100 mac book comp.

First off, for the regular MacBook Pros (non-Retina) there are basically two sizes: large 85W and small 65W. Large is used on 15" and 17" models, small on 13" model. They are physically different in size too and are labeled along the edge.
Retinas use an 85W power brick, but the connector at the Mac end is MagSafe II, which is very smaller than the regular MagSafe used on non-Retinas. No way to confuse and no way to plug them wrong.
BTW, if an MB Air got mixed in there, they use an even smaller 45W brick. But you mentioned MBP.

  • Two computers who can video chat with everyone but each other

I don't get it, I can video chat with the apple test sites and anyone else who has left me their name on this site. My realtive in Seattle can do the same. But we can't video with each other. However, when I disconnect my cable modem and plug in my high speed wireless modem card, we connect. I have made all the setting changes to my Lyksys modem suggested on this forum with no success. Is it possible that her cable modem and mine are incompatible and just won't talk to each other? (we can text each other, just no video or voice)

Have a look at this section on my Web page

I am using Mozilla Firefox and it is now bugging me. After updating it, it is now asking me to always click to activate and use plug-ins like Adobe Reader, Flash, Youtube videosand other plug-ins. I click on activiate all plug-ins but it still asks me to do it each time that I try to use Flash, Adobe Reader, watch a You Tube Video or anything. Why won't Mozilla Firefox automatically actaivate the plug-ins like it used to do. I tried to follow directions on our website for fixing this but it did not work. I am running
Windows XP. Please let me know how to fix this. Thank you.

In the past, to protect you from [https://support.mozilla.org/kb/use-plugins-play-audio-video-games plugins] that have stability or security issues, Firefox could only turn off the problematic plugin. Now Firefox can prevent the plugin from running automatically (which prevents many issues) and then let you choose to run or update the plugin. See [[Why do I have to click to activate plugins?]] for more info.
If you'd like to Disable Firefox's Click-to-Play feature,
    # Type ''about:config'' in the address bar and press Enter.
    # Press the big button to bypass the warning.
    # In the search box, paste ''plugins.click_to_play''
    # In the search results, double-click ''plugins.click_to_play'' to set its value to '''false'''
