Can I maually check for updates but prevent them from being automatically installed if it turns out one is available?
Background:
In options I have "check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them" ticked. This works fine, in that I periodically receive a notice of an available update, and it will ask me whether I want to I want to install it.
But there are certain times -- for reasons I won't go into here (unless requested as part of seeking a solution) -- where I want to manually check for new versions, but RETAIN the ability to decide whether or not to install it. But if I click Help/About Firefox/Check for Updates, and it finds an update, it will immediately proceed to install it without asking for permission. While that seems quite inconsistent with my update preferences in Options, it is apparently normal behavior as described in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version#w_how-do-i-manually-check-for-updates.
So is there any way I can manually check for new-update availability but then refuse the update if I so choose? Once an unwanted install begins, I'm concerned that if I click cancel I could end up with a partial installation or some "messed up," duplicated or corrupted FF files (e.g., multiple versions appended with (1), (2) etc, similar to what sometimes confusingly happens when I do an XP System Restore).
Thanks.I think what needs to be made very clear here is that when a user clicks on "check for updates" the software should bloody well CHECK for updates and most certainly SHOULD NOT proceed to download and apply any updates. this is misleading and intrusive.
I just wanted to check if there was an updated version but I DID NOT want to actually update at that moment. the software downloaded data, costing me money and tried to apply the update which could have potentially messed up my settings if I had not checked everything was ok first.
I actually discovered how to prevent the update by searching through windows and manually deleting the files but why should anyone have to go to such lengths?
the software should simply do as it is asked, not do things that have most certainly not been asked. -
When I try to access the itunes store I receive a message Itunes has stopped working and is
searching for a solution...Will notify you when one is available...I am running Windows 8. Any suggestions?This is the simplest fix, if you're still having a problem with it. I had the same problem, am running Windows 8.1. Just be sure to reboot after you copy the dll (dynamic link library) file indicated.
Copy QTMovieWin.dll from: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
Let me know if you have a problem. -
The CMS system database is not available (FWM 02088)
Hi all,
After installation of BOE 3.1 the system fires back the error message on attempt to logon to CMS:
Account Information Not Recognized: The CMS system database is not available. This error cannot be rectified by the end user. Report this error to your system administrator or database administrator. (FWM 02088)
Any inputs? I've tried with new SIA as well as fresh installation but the issue persists.
Regards.were you able to see any DB error messages in event log ?
can you connect to your DB from the server itself ? (could be FW issue)
What do you see under the CCM ? Do the SIA is in green state ?
For me it is probably one of 2 things : FW issue (but install will have failed) or DB issue
Sam.

I think it is essential to set the official ip and the correct hostname in the /etc/hosts file.
Per default there is the loopback IP bound to the hostname and localhost, you should change this to the desired IP.
it should be something like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
::1 localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6
192.168.1.1 yourhost.yourdomain yourhost
Otherwise you will face some other nasty side-effects, with nfs for example.
Hope that helps

Automatically add a Database to an Availability Group
Dears, I need to know if there any way to configure SQL always on to automatically add new Databases to an Availability Group.
Ayman SalehHi can any one update the TSQL script here:
Requirements:
Every time the newly created or added databases should be full backed up once in the shared location with

Checking EZP Database
J2EE Database is not available via test
See logfile JdbcCon.log
In the JdbcCon.log:
Start: Fri Nov 20 08:25:28 MST 2009
Error: Couldn't connect to DB
java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
The listener is up & running. I can tsnping to the EZP. The database is up & running
This is a new portals instance on AIX
hostname: ezpdb01-lp
OS: AIX 6.1
Oracle: 10.2.0.4
Any advice?Hi Bill,
Your are able to execute command start SAP succefully by using host
ezpdb01
I am using the correct hostname...
listener.ora
HOST = ezpdb01-lp
tnsnames.ora
HOST = ezpdb01-lp
UNIX - hostname
ezpdb01-lp
1)
ezpdb01-lp:ezpadm 7> startsap ezpdb01-lp
no start profiles found
2)
ezpdb01-lp:ezpadm 7> startsap ezpdb01
I get the same error in JdbcCon.log
Start: Tue Dec 01 08:45:53 MST 2009
Error: Couldn't connect to DB
java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
1. Now first step take backup of tnsname.ora & listner.ora
2. Edit hostname present from ezpdb01-lp to ezpdb01 in both the file.
3. Now try to start sap with command
startsap ezpdb01
, if still error exits then pls paste the contain present in sqlnet.ora.
Thanks

Database is not available via R3trans
Hi,

startsap r3
Checking BXT Database
Database is not available via R3trans
Database BXT must be started first
But
R3trans -d
This is R3trans version 6.14 (release 701 - 26.01.09 - 12:46:00).
unicode enabled version
R3trans finished (0000).
The trans.log doesn't give any error
The listener is up on the database and listening to the port as the R3trans -d went through.
Please let me know if there is anything can be done, i am banging my head for a week now, I have tried the profile parameters and resetting the db users passwords also.Hi,
Thanks all for replying,
The Dev logs are not generated as of now, so can't paste them,
Copied the lastest version of kernel, but it didn't work.
Put the tnsname and schema profile, dbms\type was already there, But it didn't work too.
Any other suggestions

Set primary database to maximize availability; ORA-02231

alter database set primary database to maximize availability
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-02231: missing or invalid option to ALTER DATABASE
When tried to change the Log Export Mode using DGMGRL Command Line it started throwing errors about stanby redo logs:

Prashant Dixit.Hi,
I think you must add Standby Redo logfiles .
SQL> ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE ('/u01/oracle/ordata/<primary>/log1c.rdo') SIZE 500M;
SQL> ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE ('/u01/oracle/ordata/<primary>/log2c.rdo') SIZE 500M;
SQL> ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE ('/u01/oracle/ordata/<primary>/log3c.rdo') SIZE 500M;After that you can edit database primary log transport to SYNC and in broker managed data guard you must chage logxptmode to sync on standby ,too
With
DGMGRL> edit database <primary> set property LogXptMode="SYNC";
DGMGRL> edit database <standdby> set property LogXptMode="SYNC";
DGMGRL> edit configuration set protection mode AS MAXPROTECTION;
Max protection is require restart primary database;
DGMGRL> shutdown immediate; -- if connected to primary
DGMGRL> startup;
DGMGRL> edit configuration set protyection mode as MAXAVAILIBILITY;Regards

"split event before clip" is not available
I have selected a section of my video in event library, however, the "split event before clip" is not available. Anybody know why?
This command is only available if your Event has more than one clip. It will split the Event between two clips.
If you are not sure how many clips are in your Event, move the Thumbnail slider to the right until you get a single thumbnail per clip. -
All in One Printer/Scanner/Copier/Fax Recommendations
Hi,
I'm looking to purchase an all in one printer/scanner/copier/fax device. I was wondering what recommendations other people have. The main purpose would be to print photos, scan photos and some small business office printing. Note, a fax would be nice, but is not absolutely neccessary.
Scanning photos would be important, since I plan to scan our family's photo albums into iPhoto.
Also, is there a printer than can communicate with the Mini using bluetooth? If so , does it work well?
Since I have limited desk space, size would be an issue (smaller the better).
Looking to spend about $200, slightly more if the cost justifies itself. Less is always better.
Thanks in advance!The Brother MFC-420cn
http://www.brother-usa.com/MFC/ModelDetail.aspx?ProductID=MFC420CN
does everything you ask for less than $100 -- except bluetooth.
The Pluses: Good Mac software. Cheap ink. Networkable.
The construction is flimsy plastic, but if you are gentle it will hold up.
Definitely small footprint.
Paper path is 180 degrees, which is not my preference.
Personally, I prefer Epson all-in-ones. Also good Mac software and 80 degree paper path for less jamming. Exceptional scan quality.
