Event logs fails to start on Exchange Server 2010

My Exchange server 2010 R2 SP1 Enterprise single server is down.  All exchange services fail to start.  It appears like the Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service isn't starting which is a dependency for all other services.
The error I get when trying to start this service is:
Windows could not start the Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology on Local Computer.  For more information, review the System Event Log.  If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code
-2147024882
To make matters worse, the event viewer is not starting either.
When trying to start the Windows Event Log, I get the error:
Windows could not start the Windows Event Log service on Local Computer. Displays Error code 5
This is running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Standard box.
Any assistance is appreciated.

When trying to start the Windows Event Log, I get the error:
Windows could not start the Windows Event Log service on Local Computer. Displays Error code 5
Hi,
Based on this error, this problem happens if any of the following conditions are true:
The built-in security group EventLog does not have permissions on the folder %SystemRoot%\System32\winevt\Logs
The Local Service account does not have default permissions on the following registry key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability
To solve this problem, we need to restore the default permissions in the list below on %SystemRoot%\System32\winevt\logs.
Authenticated user - List folder/read data, Read attributes, Read Extended attributes, Read permissions
Administrators - Full control
SYSTEM - Full control
EventLog - Full control
Please try the following methods:
Method 1
To restore the default permissions on folder %SystemRoot%\System32\winevt\logs, follow these steps.
Right-click on %SystemRoot%\System32\winevt\logs and select Properties.
Select the Security tab.
Click Edit button and click the Add button in the permissions dialog box.
In Select users, computers, or Groups dialog box ensure that under object types Built in Security Principals and the location as local computer name is selected.
Enter the object name as "NT SERVICE\EventLog" without quotes. And click OK. This group should have full control on the folder.
Once EventLog group is added add the rest of the groups with above mentioned permissions.
Method 2
Identify a Windows Server 2008 machine with default permissions.
Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.
When you are prompted by User Account Control, click Continue.
Type the command CD %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32.
Once the working directory is changed to %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32 type the command icacls winevt\* /save acl /T.
This will save a file named ACL in %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32. Copy this file to the C: drive on the problem computer.
On the problem computer, open command prompt with administrator privileges (refer to previous steps 1-3).
Change the working directory to %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32.
Execute the command icacls winevt\ /restore acl.
Default permissions on the registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability should be:
CREATOR OWNER - Full control
SYSTEM - Full control
LOCAL SERVICE - Query Value, Set Value, Create Subkey, Notify and Delete
Administrators - Full control
Users - Read
To set the permission on this registry key:
Click the Start menu, select Run and type Regedit.
Go to the location HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability.
From the Edit menu click Permissions.
Add the permissions for the accounts as listed above.
In addition, Exchange 2010 SP1 and SP2 are end of support.

  • SBS 2003 to 2011 Migration - Exchange Server 2010 cannot be installed

    Hello,
We have a Small Business Server 2003 server that we are trying to migrate to SBS 2011 using the out of the box migration process. After the install, the SBS console showed a couple installation issues - the big one turned out to be "Exchange Server

Here is the end of 'ExchangeSetup.log' showing various error messages:

I should add that the source server's AD configuration might not be perfect due to this being the second attempt at a SBS 2011 migration install.
I'd be grateful for any help I can get on this as SBS migration has been plauged with multiple setbacks already. I really need to get this done! ;)
    Thanks,
    Voon

Thank you Larry and Al for your replies.
    I used the 'official' migration
    guide plus this page (http://www.techieshelp.com/step-by-step-guide-to-migrating-to-sbs-2011/)
as my migration references. The SBS migration prep tool gave no errors on the source server when I ran it.
I have a full system drive image plus a a system state backup from before migration. Though I am very loathed to rollback the migration and attempt a new one - again. I will do some searching to see if I can resolve the Exchange server problem and continue
the migration/installation. If not, then its a system state restore for me. One of Al's links had a resource for doing a thorough check of AD - which something I'd run if I have to another migration attempt.
I am also really tempted to open up a paid MS support ticket for them to help me fix this problem. :)

  • Failed To Start A Dedicated Server Process

    Hi

    6G Ram
We switched our server from Shared Server to Dedicated. All was going well, but suddenly no one could log in. Currently logged in users were okay.
Alert Log showed several of the following errors:
    skgpspawn failed:category = 27143, depinfo = 9261, op = spdcr, loc = skgpspawn
    No errors in the listener.log
Attempted login with sqlplus reported ORA-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process
At the time less than 2G of the 6G was being utilized.
Also, during the time of this event, the event log showed several of the following:

    Hi Don
Thanks for the info. I now have the 3GB switch set. I have been leery of setting the indirect buffers due to some posts I have read like these:
ORA-00385: cannot enable Very Large Memory with new buffer cache parameters
Cause: User specified one or more of { db_cache_size , db_recycle_cache_size, db_keep_cache_size, db_nk_cache_size (where n is one of 2,4,8,16,32) } AND use_indirect_data_buffers is set to TRUE. This is illegal.
Action: Very Large Memory can only be enabled with the old (pre-Oracle_8.2) parameters.
ORA-07305: ksmcsg: illegal database buffer size.
Cause: The database buffer size must be a multiple of the extended cache mapping size for indirect data buffers to be used.
Action: Verify that the db_block_size parameter is correct in INIT.ORA, or disable the use_indirect_data_buffers parameter.
I'm assuming these are 10G and above errors, but I just don't know.
Our db cache is already at a fairly large size.(see non standard configs below).
Also, is this an either/or thing. In other words, /3GT OR /PAE and indirect buffers, but not both?
    Thanks again.

  • 'ORA-12500: TNS: Listener failed to start a dedicated server process'

    Hi,
While connecting from one database to another users are getting the below error when they are giving a select statement, its taking around 30 minutes and showing
'ORA-12500: TNS: Listener failed to start a dedicated server process'...
    What could be the issue...
    Thanks,
    Kr.

If database to which they are trying to connect is running, then check listener.log ($ORACLE_HOME/network/log).
Probably there is not enough system resources - check opsystem logs as well (on unix /var/log or /var/adm) on windows look at events.
Look into db alert.log as well.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard "Certificate Authority Service" / Exchange Server 2010 EMC not starting and no AD connectivity for authentication.

    Hello,
I am a new IT Manager at this company and need assistance big time. Their environment looks as follows:
Server 1. Domain Controller Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) running active directory.
Server 2. Email Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) running Exchange Server 2010 .
    * Note. No back ups to work with aside from whats mentioned below.
DC had a virus infection causing a lot of issues on the shared network drives 2 days ago locking up all the files with a crypto ransom virus. Running Avast suppressed the infection. Had to recover the file shares which luckily had a back up.
The issue is that the Exchange Server 2 post this lost connectivity with the AD Server 1. Exchange Server 2 when launching EMC could not launch the console stating the following:
"No Exchange servers are available in any Active Directory sites. You can’t connect to remote
Powershell on a computer that only has the Management Tools role installed."
Shortly after I found that it is possible the EMC launcher was corrupt and needed to be reinstalled following another blog post. I deleted the exchange management console.msc  per instructions only to discover I couldnt relaunch it because there was
no way how. So I copied another msc file that happened to be on the DC Server 1  back to Exchange Server 2 and got it to launch again.
Another post said that it might be an issue with the Domain Account for the Computer, so to delete it in the AD Server 1 only to find that rejoining it from Exchange Server 2 using Computer>Properties> Chage Settings > Change is greyed out because
it is using the Certificate Authority Service.
I tried manually re-adding the computer in AD and modeling permissions after another server in group settings but no go. After this I was unable to login to the Exchange Server 2 with domain accounts but only local admin, receiving the following Alert:
"The Trust Relationship between this workstation and primary domain failed."
I tried running the Power Shell tools on Exchange Server 2 to rejoing and to reset passwords for domain accounts as noted in some other blogs but no luck as the Server 2 could not make the connection with Server1 or other errors it kept spitting out.
I also during the investigation found the DNS settings were all altered on both the Server 1 and Server 2 which I luckily was able to change back to original because of inventorying it in the beginning when I started.
I need help figuring out if I need to rejoin the Exchange Server 2 manually by disabling the Certificate Authority Service (or removing the CA as listed here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/fb23deab-0a12-410d-946c-517d5aea7fae/windows-server-2008-r2-with-certificate-authority-service-to-rejoin-domain?forum=winserversecurity
and getting exchange server to launch again. (Mind you I am relatively fresh to server managing) Please help E-Mail has been down for a whole day now!

  • While Installation of 11g database creation time error ORA-28056: Writing audit records to Windows Event Log failed Error

    Hi Friends,
    OS = Windows XP 3
    Database = Oracle 11g R2 32 bit
    Processor= intel p4 2.86 Ghz
    Ram = 2 gb
    Virtual memory = 4gb
I was able to install the oracle 11g successfully, but during installation at the time of database creation I got the following error many times and I ignored it many times... but at 55% finally My installation was hanged nothing was happening after it.....
ORA-28056: Writing audit records to Windows Event Log failed Error  and at 55% my Installation got hung,,,, I end the installation and tried to create the database afterward by DBCA but same thing happened....
Please some one help me out, as i need to install on the same machine .....
    Thanks and Regards

Thanks Now I am able to Create a database , but with one error,
When I created a database using DBCA, at the last stage I got this error,
    Database Configuration Assistant : Warning
Enterprise Manager Configuration Failed due to the Following error Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it.  Start the listener & Registered database service & run EM Configuration Assistant again....
But when I checked the listener was up.....
Now what was the problem,  I am able to connect and work through sqlplus,
But  I didnt got the link of EM and when try to create a new connection in sql developer it is giving error ( Status : failure - Test Failed the Network Adapter could not establish the connection )
    Thanks & Regards
Creation of the dbcontrol requires a connection via the listener.  When configuring the dbcontrol as part of database creation, it appears that the dbcontrol creation step runs before the dynamic registration of the databsase with the listener is complete.  Now that the database itself is completed and enough time (really, just a minute or two) has passed to allow the instance to register, use dbca or emca to create the dbcontrol.
Are you able to get a sqlplus connection via the listener (sqlplus scott/tiger@orcl)?  That needs to be the first order of business.

Even I found the same issue once, and then I realised that the SP and RU should be same in exchange sever and the machine where the issue is.
Could you please check the same if that  machine has the same Sp and RU, if not, please upgrade the same? I bet it will start working

  • Failed to start remote debug server

I'm having trouble getting xcode to play nicely with my provisioned iPhone under beta 7. When I change my default target to "Device Debug" and do a clean build the following occurs:
    1) The code compiles and links
    2) The application is installed on the iPhone
    3) XCode tries to start the remote debug server and fails with the following message:
Failed to start remote debug server for test.app on Keith's iPhone
The application does get installed on my phone, but I am unable to use xcode to view the logs and perform other debugging related activities.
Has anyone seen this before and know how to fix it?
    Thank you,
    -Keith

Thanks for the reply, but it didn't seem to help. Maybe I didn't do it right. I did:
    - Delete app from iPhone
    - Clean project
    - Close project
    - Xcode->Empty Caches
    - Close Xcode
    - Disconnect and reconnect device (via iTunes eject)
    - Open project
    - Build & Go
Still the same 'please disconnect and reconnect the device' when starting debugserver
I am able to run the app just fine, but can't use Instruments or the debugger
