Every program opens when I power on...

When I am finished with using my Ma, I go up to the little apple icon and "shut down."  I figured this would save some battery.
Since I updated to Mac OS X 10.7.2, every time I power on I have to then close out iCal, Safari, Word, Powerpoint, MobileMe and sometimes iTunes to declutter my screen and start whatever I want to do.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Should I just let my computer sleep when I'm not using it? Just shut the lid or something?
I'm by no means a computer expert, so please give detailed instructions if you can.  Thanks so much!

Launch System Preferences and click on the “General” icon
At the bottom of the “Number of recent items” list, uncheck the checkbox next to “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”

  • Why do all the programs open when the mini is turned on, and how to avoid this?

why do all the programs open when the mini is turned on, and how to avoid this?

Open System Preferences > Users & Groups then select the Login Items tab.
    Remove all apps listed there.
    And check /Library/StartupItems
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/StartupItems
Click Go then move all items from the StartupItems folder to the Trash.

  • How do I prevent programs opening when I start my computer?

I just upgraded to the new OS X 10.7.1 and now when I start my computer, aobut 7 programs startup and I have to exit out of all of them.  How do I prevent programs from opening at startup.

Try two these two things in System Prefs:
    1) In "General", uncheck "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps"
    2) In "Users & Groups", click on "Login Items", select the things you don't want to open on startup and click the "-" (minus) at the bottom of the list. That should clear any of those apps from launching at startup. If you change your mind, just click the "+" and add the app back to your list of login items you want to have ready on start up.
    Hope this helps.

I see Niel has provided your solution!
The only thing I would add is right now, you'e selected to view "My Proceses."
If you change the button to view "All Processes" you'll have a better idea of the scope
of things actually going on. I restart my Mac about 1x/week just to clear out spider-webby
stuff, when I see that pie chart go to 1/4 green.
    Just a thought.

  • Every program opens as iTunes, it has taken over and I can't access anything. Help?

All of my desktop and menu icons now show as the iTunes logo and when I click on them they open as iTunes. They still say what they're meant to be in writing underneath but they all open as iTunes. When I uninstall iTunes it goes back to normal but I really like using iTunes and I'd like to know what's going on. I don't want to have to uninstall.

First I'd set up a System Restore point. Then try applying the LNK registry fix from the following document:
File Association Fixes for Windows 7
Does that get your icons back to normal?

  • Stop program opening when device (camera) is connected.

When I connect a range of things (camrea, SD memory card from camera, iPhone, and iPad) the system assumes I want Aperture to open. I know there must be some way to change the application that starts.
What I really want to do is stop any application from starting.
    Thaks very much.

The Aperture->Preferences->Import is where I found it. No application is one of the choices.
    Thanks

  • Auto phone call and program opening when iPhone unlocked

If a notification or a phone call appears on a locked screen, when you open the phone iOS 7 automatically opens the app causing the notification or redials the missed call. When the app triggering the notification requires a web refresh (like the AP news app) this behavior slows down the unlocking process by as much as 10 seconds, which is an unacceptable delay. When iOS 7 auto redials a missed call it can connect you to a caller when you intentionally did not answer the call. The auto behavior should have a switch that allows it to be turned off.

Reply to myself - after using iOS 7 for awhile I realized that there are two swipe areas on the lock screen when a call comes in - one near the top to call back after opening and an area at the bottom to open without calling back. Also works to open app triggering lock screen notices or open phone without triggering app. That is a sensible feature that is actually useful.

  • Since upgrading to Lion on start multiple programs open (word, excel, mail, power point) any fixes?

Since upgrading to Lion every time I start my Mac  multiple programs open (word, excel, mail, power point) any fixes?

Yeah, but when it CRASHES  and you have to hold the power button, all the apps restart.  I have 8GB and it's swap-city.
To make matters worse, it appears there's a bug in Lion Mail.  It opens a compose window for every email I sent in the previous session.  We're talking dozens and dozens of windows.
Maybe try posting your own question on this as it is unrelated to this post. Never seen it before, so if you require help, then open a new topic.

  • Not able to install Logic on mac with OSX.  10.8.2. Error message: Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported. I have logic studio 8 software purchased in 2007 and upgraded with logic studio 9 (purchased in 2009)

After an earlier attempt to move Logic from my other mac (OSX 10.6.8) with the migration assistant to my new mac with OSX 10.8.2. I've re-started the whole start up process by erasing the hard drive from the new machine and build it up from scratch. After a new "out of the box" start, I decided to install LOGIC from my disks : starting with my 2007 package Logic Studio 8 and upgrading with my Logic 9 package from 2009. When trying to start to install 2008 I got the error message : Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported.
What does this mean? HOw do I get this working under 10.8.2 as it works flawlessly under OSX 10.6.8. For sure I didn't buy a new machine to have OSX 10.8.2 but I suspect this is the roadblock to installing my logic package.
    Help!

    Mark,
    Sorry...
I completely lost the thread (I actually got confused between you and another poster on a another forum that was asking the same basic question) and somehow ended up thinking you were trying to install on a PPC Mac
My apologies and please ingnore those parts of my last post relating to the PPC Macs...
You have an Intel Mac and therefore Logic Studio 2 Boxed Upgrade set should install/run on your Mac without issue. As I said earlier.. you do not need to try and install from the original Logic Studio 1 /Logic 8 Boxed set...(It won't work anyhow because you have an Intel Mac and that version had a PPC installer)  but just install from the Logic Studio 2 / Logic Pro 9 Upgrade Boxed setof DVDs instead...
Have you tried the "Make Disk Image" solution I gave earlier? That normnally works under such circumstances as what you are describing can happen when your DVD drive cannot read the DVDs correctly... I have had this situation myself where one drive read them okay and another failed to do so for whatever reason. Making and then installing from Disk images of those exact same disks resolved the issue for me...
You can try to reinstall directly from the DVDs of course though under some circumstances it may not allow you to reinstall Logic Pro itself if that part of the original installation attempt was successful... in which case you can also try this... (It's probably the easiest method if Logic 9 was already installed and present in your Apps Folder)
If the Logic Pro App is in your applications folder..
Run Software Updates to update Logic Pro to a version that will run under 10.8.2 (The initially installed version of Logic will not)
    Run Logic
Go to the menu bar in Logic and select Logic Pro/Install Additional Content and select all content in there..
This content is basically exactly the same as what is stored on the remaining DVDs of the boxed set so you might not need to use the rest of the DVDs to install from but download it all instead from Apple Servers...

  • My Mac keeps crashing while in safari, iphoto, and whenever I try to go to applications.  It will close every program that I have open.  Any ideas?

Safari, Iphoto crash about 50 percent of the time i try to use them.  And when I go to the applications on the bottom of my screen to look one up, it crashes every program that was open.  I get error messages, I can post them if i need to.   Thanks

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.  You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.
Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
After that Repair Permissions. No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.

  • When opening a pinned program from the taskbar the programs opens in a new icon in the taskbar.

    Hey
In some special occasions, I have the problem that when you press an pinned icon the program is not "grouped" with the pinned icon, but opens in a new icon, please see this image to better understand:
    http://misc.norphf.dk/PinnedIcon.bmp
As you can see in the picture, the properties of both icons are alike
In this case I have manually changed the icon to add the "4twhpv3 dl", but I also have the problem with e.g. Active Directory Users and Computers 32BIT path "%windir%\SysWOW64\dsa.msc" it works with the normal ADUC started form "control panel" (I use the 32
bit version to get an extension to work).
    Can someone help with this?
    Regards Lars Mortensen

Doesn’t affect functionality?! - It sure does, with my Active Directory Users and Computers, which I have lying on win+7 every time I press win+7 it opens a
new window instead of using the currently opened, that’s not very functional....
    But found a solution myself
If I create a shortcut, and changes this shortcut, places that shortcut on a local disk (Network locations/mapped drives doesn't work) then I can right click that
shortcut and "Pin to taskbar", then the program opens in the same icon and does not create a new.
    Hopes this is understandable.
