  • Does it hurt to leave the MBP with Lithium Ion battery plugged in?

I have been told by the local Apple Store Genius Bar that I should cycle the Lithium Ion battery down and then charge it back up to increase battery life.  I thought that this was not necessary with a Lithium Ion battery.  What is the truth here?  I use my MBP on my desk most of the time and it is easier to keep it plugged in.
Does it really affect battery life?

    tonefox,
Some of your recommendations are out of date:
It is suggested you run it down until the phone powers down and then charge it right up to 100% occasionally. But that is only to recalibrate the oercentage readout.
OP has an MacBook Pro, not a phone, and User calibaration ceased to exist with the 2009 MacBook Pros according to this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
    To veehbg,
Anna's link to that artilce is very important to good battery life. I've been around here a long time and the number of batteries that failed early from lack of use far exceeds those that failed for any reason when the usage patterns outlined in that article were followed. i try to run my Mac portables on battery for 30 mins to a hour a day to keep thenm exercized. So dar, so good!

  • Lithium ion battery in a 2005 EOS 1DS camera

Can you switch to a lithium ion batter on a 2005 EOS 1DS camera?

    Hi RLNF!
    Thank you for posting!
The only battery pack made for the EOS-1DS was the NP-E3 NiMH battery pack.  We do not have a lithium ion battery pack for this model.

  • Lithium-Ion Battery Storage

I use my HP G72 laptop around the house, and always plug it into a wall socket (being careful to first connect to the laptop, and only then into the wall socket). I don't keep it turned on all the time, but only use it about one or two hours a day. Since there's no need for the battery in these circumstances, it seems logical to me that the battery will last longer if it's put into long-term storage. I've seen two distinctly different suggestions regarding Lithium-Ion battery storage: 1) Store with only a 40% charge in a refrigerator, and 2) store with only a 40% charge at room temp (68°F to 70°F). Suggestion #1 came from http://www.techrepublic.com, suggestion #2 is from the HP website. In my experience with photography, I've always stored film and batteries in the refrigerator, and have found that they remain fresh and usable for years after their expiration date. Now, this brings up two questions: Q1) Will the battery actually last longer if I remove it from the laptop, or is it immaterial whether it's inside the laptop or stored? Q2) If storage is the answer, does anyone have direct empirical evidence of the best way to store a Lithium-Ion battery? That is ... 40% at room temp, or 40% in a fridge?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
I would definetely recommend storing the battery at 40% charge and in a refridgerator.  I believe 40% is the best charge level for storage due to the nature of the cells chemistry and again higher temperatures are asscociated with a faster loss of capacity.  You may be interested on the link below which includes some graphical data on the cell decay of lithium batteries.

  • Lithium Ion Battery Help plea

I was wondering how does the recharging Lithium Ion battery works? (eg:4hrs of batter life, does it run out in 4hours? or 4hours of useing the item? so power doesnt run out while it being closed?)
    please help and thanks all!

EQ might be wonders to some, others might think it's an disturbance to the original music. I think it's great for me since I like to enjoy the music more, even though it is classified as distorting the music, I don't mind at all. Just don't max out your settings.
Having EQ does drain the battery, but not as significant as Smart Volume. EQ will waste about -2 hours on your player.
If you like to touch your player a lot, like to change volume or skip tracks and such, that will drain your battery life more. What I do is I use an in-line volume controller connected to my earphones, then set the volume to good setting. That way I don't use my Micro just to change the volume and waste more battery life.
As for warranty, you must save the receipt from the store you bought it from. If you bought it on ebay, you must have the original owner's receipt and not the receipt you get on paypal. So if the owner bought it at bestbuy and sells it on ebay. You must get his bestbuy receipt. The original receipt is your ticket to your warranty.
You should read the warranty coverage to get most of your questions answers. Most warranty usually covers not at fault problems. They would call those defects or faulty to begin with. If there is something you don't understand about it, ask more questions here.
If one day your player freezes up and you can't fix it, that would be covered by the warranty. However, headphone jacks breaking, dropping it, and anything that damages it physically might not be covered on warranty. At this point, call Creative and see what they want to do. Usually they would take it in, but I don't know why.

  • Simulating an EV lithium ion battery using Labview

    Hi,
I am a 3rd year auto eng student and have a project where my aim is to try and simulate a lithium ion battery from an EV i.e. the different loads experienced over a distance which can be inputted. I hope to create a VI that can accomplish this. The results from the labview will hopefully be compared with hand calculations i have carried out on a EV i.e. energy, power density, SOC. Are there any other relevant calculations that should be considered also?
I just wanted to know if there were any examples or tutorials available to show a battery simulator.
Thanks in advance, as I have asked a lot but only becasue my project supervisor is not that clued up on the topic.
    Ricky

Thanks for the reply, really helpful in clearing up what I am trying to accomplish. I don't think I will have to use MultiSim but the other thing you talked about sounds like what I am trying to achieve. I have calculated some values for the battery and want to use the values and put them into LabVIEW. Then, create some sort of power load against time or distance graph, in order to understand the effect of the strain experienced by the battery when powering an EV over a distance.
I was thinking that by putting a graph, varying control input (like a dial to alter the power) and input for the distance on the front panel, I would be able to create the desired graph but am not sure about what else would be needed on the block diagram to make the VI function properly. I have an example which is something similar, but is more about monitoring battery performance rather than trying to simulate the battery. However, the example has some things missing so is unable to run. Also, help with understanding how to implement the equations into the VI would be much appreciated also.
    Thanks again.

  • Does mac mini have lithium ion battery

I live over seas and I bought a new mac mini online, they are not available here.  I am having it shipped to my sister who will then ship it to me.  With the law stating that lithium ion batteries cannot me sent in air mail, will this effect the mac mini?  I tried searching online for an answer but couldn't get an exact answer. Thanks for your time.
    Josh

AFAIK, the Mac Mini has no batteries (although it would be nice that it had a battery, because that way you'd have the same protection as a laptop against power outages)

  • Lithium-ion Battery instead of Lithium Polymer. False advertisement!

I bought a new MBP core 2 Duo 2.33Gig. In the Specifications of this model, it comes with a Lithium-Polymer Battery, but Looking at my battery it is actually a Lithium-ion.
    Isn't this False advertisement?
Please Apple, I would like to exchange my battery for what I actually payed for.
    Thankyou
macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Core 2 Duo 2.33

    Hi mikulas,
It looks like it is just a labeling issue and that you have a Lithium-Polymer battery.
See Kbase 303785 Intel-based Apple Notebooks: About the battery
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303785
    Which says:
While the physical battery inside your MacBook or MacBook Pro may state on the underside of the battery that it is "Li-Ion", it is using the Lithium polymer implementation of this technology.

  • What is the exact model number of a Mac Mini-mid 2011 Server?

My Mac Mini Server apple tells me is a Mid-2011. I saw somewhere the Mac Mini models have "5"  as the starting number in a 3 or 4 digit model number. Why is apple unable to give an exact model # of this "Mid-2011" model. Appreciate somebody to give an answer to this seeming "mystery". Thank you.

    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/specs/mac-mini-core-i7-2.0-mid-20 11-server-specs.html
Unclear on whether you are asking about the model identifier (Macmini5,3) or the Apple part number (MC936LL/A).
The model identifier can be found in "System Information". The Apple part number can be found on the serial number plate attached to the chassis.

  • How do I tell my exact model number?

    Hello,
I have a 13" macbook Core 2 Duo. I see where my serial number, my processor speed, even my firmware is under about this mac.
How do I tell what model number I have?
    Thanks

There is something called a "Model No." on the bottom shell of the computer. However - this is shared with other types of computers and only refers to the physical part number for the shell.
There is the "Model identifier" in System Profiler - example is "MacBook2,2", although that would only be a blunt guide to what firmware would be needed for the machine. For my particular machine, the same "Model Identifier" just identifies first generation Santa Rosa MacBooks, including black/white/basic white.
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/by_capability/macs-by-machine-model-machine-id.h tml
What many people think of as the "model number" (like MB062/A) is located on the original box. I thought there was some tool that used serial numbers to extract this identifier.

  • I want to sell my MacBook Pro-How do I find the exact model number?

    It's late 2011 i7 15 inch and the specs I pull up show 2.4GHz MacBook Pro (MD322LL/A)
Except that i'ts when I click About this Mac it shows:
Processor  2.5 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Serial Number  C0**********W47
    Software  OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
    It also gives this info:
    Processor and memory
2.2GHz or 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 6MB shared L3 cache; or optional 2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 8MB shared L3 cache and I know it's this and 750 GB SATA Disk
    4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB
Basically, I'm wanting to sell it because I just don't need such an expensive Mac and I hardly ever use it. I bought it new in September 2012 and it's in mint condition. Since it was a model year behind, I only paid $1899.
I have the box but I'm out of town so I was just hoping to figure out what I want to do. I still have the original receipt, it has Office University (or whatever it's called) and a Magic Mouse.
Any ideas of where/how I should sell it? I usually use Craig's list but I don't think that's a great idea for this item. Also, how much do you Apple experts think I should ask? I'm addicted to my iPad 2 but it's on iOS 5 still because it's, well, you know...I like to configure my displays and icons and be able to free memory, etc. so I mainly use it. Thanks for any help! Much appreciated!

    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

    Carrie,
the information that is provided by About This Mac is accurate. What you have is a CTO (“Configure To Order”) variant of the MD322LL/A; thus, referring to it simply as a “MD322LL/A” does not uniquely identify it. I would recommend describing it as a “2.5 GHz 15-inch Late 2011 MacBook Pro with 4 GB of RAM and 750 GB HDD”, so that the buyer knows exactly what you’re offering. Make sure that the box, the other original accessories that came in the box, and the original receipt are included with the MacBook Pro; picky buyers (like me ) appreciate receiving all of those constituent components.
Note, however, that according to the Mavericks software license agreement, that because its installed version of Mavericks was originally downloaded from the Mac App Store, its copy of Mavericks is non-transferable; you will need to erase Mavericks and its recovery partition from the MacBook Pro’s internal disk before selling it. It would save the buyer some time if you would also perform an OS X Internet Recovery to restore its original Lion onto its internal disk before the sale.
To get an idea of what you should ask for it, take a look at online auction sites to see what other 15-inch Late 2011 MacBook Pros are selling for. You are likely to find more 2.2 GHz and 2.4 GHz models than 2.5 GHz models like yours, so you could add a premium of some amount to whatever the more common models are going for. If you live in an urban area, Craigslist could be used to sell it, as long as you and the buyer can agree on acceptable payment terms; finding a willing buyer might be more difficult if you live in a rural area.

  • Lithium ion battery wont cha

hi... i dont know if i should post this here but anyways, i have a creative zen xtra, and i hadnt used it for awhile so when i try to turn it on, it wont turn on... i plug it in into the ac adapter then it starts, but it doesnt show recharging battery, just that its using the ac... is there anything i can do? would this kind of thing be covered in the warrenty? thanks.

There are a number of factors here.
How old is the player and where did you buy it's Warranty period is variable depending on where you purchased the item (3 months in US, year in UK etc.).
I have read through the warranty and nothing specifically excludes the battery. So the fault could be the battery or the player's charging circuit. If you're in warranty contact Creative Support, if not you'll probably need to buy a new battery and try that, unless you have a friend that will let you try theirs.

  • Lithium-ion Battery Care Tips

    Hi
I read some tips in Yahoo Answers, Apple Articles and Apple Froum (below links)
I use my laptop 12-16 hours a day and set it to sleep after 3 min if I don't use it.
    My questions are these:
I should keep the battery charge rate aroud %50-%60. It means I shoud unplug AC power when it reach %80 or more?
If no, how often I should unplug it?
If yes, I should reach 80%? what is the best rate?

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090916140048AA4zPLn

    Here's what Apple says:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
Now I'm gonna share a dirty little secret about all lithium batteries: Fact is, the biggest killers of these batteries are frequent full discharge/recharge cycles & heat. I'm well aware what Apple recommends, but I'm telling you that if you want your battery to last avoid discharging below 35 ~ 40% of capacity as much as possible & avoid heat. Every 3 ~ 4 months, it's OK to discharge to ~ 35% of capacity & then recharge to full. More often than that is not needed & will do more harm than good.
Charge whenever you can/want, you cannot overcharge, as charging automatically stops when your battery is full. You can leave it plugged in all the time, if you wish. Excerise as provided above.
