Exactly what settings does migration assistant migrate?

I am using migration assistant to transfer information to a new mac. My question is this: At the "Select Items to Migrate" screen you have the options of selecting Users, Applications, Settings, etc... Under the Settings Section, you can select/deselect "Time Zone" "Machine" and "Network." Exactly what settings in the Mac OS is transfered when you select Machine and Network? I know Directory Binding settings and computer name is transfered when you check "Machine." What else does "Machine" transfer? What network related settings are imported when you select "Network?"

Exactly What Optimizations Does "Save for Web" Perform?

Hello all!
In Photoshop Elements 5.0, Save for Web works very well for me. I'll likely just use Save for Web most of the time, but occasionally I want to perform only some of the web optimizations on a particular image. I'd like to know how to perform some or all of the same optimizations manually.
Can anyone tell me what steps to take in the Editor (resizing, dpi changes, etc.) manually to mimic the Save for Web function? Or point me to some documentation that explains exactly what Save for Web does to an image?

If you want to do resizing manually, Image<Resize<Image Size. Here you can set the image's size and resolution and set if you want the image to be resampled or not.
The compression would be done in the file<Save step.
If you save as a jpg, you can set image quality. Notice that below the preview check box the file size for the current setting is displayed. You can also do a visual check of the before and after image by checking and unchecking the Preview box.
Save As...for other file types display dialogs that apply to that image type.

What settings does my ipod need to be on in order to transfer content to a new computer

I am trying to transfer ipod content to a new computer using ipod. It's not working
and I am at wit's end. I have tried using the instructions on the Apple website. I
have also tried the Tunes Plus softward. I go through all of steps correctly, I think,
and nothing happens. I don't think I have a problem with iTunes so maybe it
could be my ipod. Can anyone help?

Airplay always adds confusion in my view as it's not the only way the device works.
AppleTV can play content from several sources
1 - Your local iTunes library - iTunes must be running/computer on for you to be able to browse the library database under the Computers column and pull the media to the AppleTV for playback using itunes as the helper app.
2 - You can 'push' compatible media and content of some iOS apps to AppleTV from iPads, iPhones, iPod Touch and using Airplay from itunes (the only desktop app enabled for Airplay in OS X or Windows). Airplay from itunes generally only gives different results with music whereby equaliser, enhancement and cross fade settings are applied before sending the audio whereas 'pulling' using AppleTV menus does not add these effects. Also Airplay from itunes is one method to play Audible audiobooks using AppleTV as a 'speaker'.
3 - In some countries past itunes purchases (excluding movies currently) can be played directly from the internet (iCloud service) though clearly if you have a slow or capped internet connection, playing from your localitunes library would give better performance.

What settings does the MTS footage need so I can edit in CS4?

I have imported AVCHD MTS files from a Sony camera into CS4. The audio is fine but, completely out of sync with the footage before or after editing.
I've looked through the forum and tried a few ideas but can't seem to get the right answer for my situation.

I've used all of the AVCHD settings in Premiere CS4 i.e. all four 1080i settings and all five 1080p settings.
The audio is fine but the picture cannot keep up with the audio.
I've had CS4 for about a year.

Issue: The default output from the menu location results in output that is unusable: e.g., styles aren't mapping correctly, making the document difficult to read and review. Is there a default print layout or some other control available?
Ultimate objectives: Track changes, perform shared reviews, import comments from the generated PDF, and so forth.
Secondary questions: Can I import comments/markup from a shared review if I generated the PDF using the print layout, instead of the Review > Create PDF for Review menu option? If so, will I then be able to manage comments from the Review pane and perform other related-reviewing functions?

I believe it maps via CSS. I don't believe you can change this behaviour.
If you generate printed documentation, it is NOT possible to import the review comments.

Yes, this is exactly what it does. However, it's a custom control, not a built-in control. JavaScript is used to set it up. In order to use it you have to have a data connection in the document and modify the "Initialize" script, which is were the list is populated from the DB. The "Initialize" code is a good example of how to use XFA JavaScript to access a DB. However, the code is also written in a very general manor and takes the long way around to hooking up to the DB. Much shorter code can be written for a specific DB.

I'm using FC to make my documentary for state history day. I think my trouble is the settings before I transfer the video using Quicktime Conversion. I honestly don't have any idea what to change my settings to!! Right now, after i burn it my video messes up. It makes bar like shapes when the video comes up, the video is visible but it doesn't look very professional. The video clips are clear when I play it on my computer(in the program FC) but after I move it it does the pixely thing. I am burning my project to a DVD and it will just be playing on a regular TV screen. If anyone can help me I would GREATLY appreciate it!!!!!! Thanks

Capture what Flex does during a release build

I'm working on a project which we currently do release builds
using FB3. What I'm looking to do is create an ANT task which
creates the release build exactly like the one Flex creates. I.E.
after running the ANT file I want the output to be the same as that
which is put out by Flex. Right now It creates the SWF's,
index.html, deep history, but the remaining folders are not
created. Is there a way to capture exactly what Flex does when it
does a release build?

dont think Flex can read a raw CSS sheet. You have to precompile them, right click on the file in project explorer and chose compile CSS to SWF

One of the choices that Migration Assistant offers to transfer is "Settings". What exactly are the "settings" that Migration Assistant will migrate?

1) Applications: I am setting up a new machine (OS 10.6.6) from an almost identical machine that I barely finished setting up (also OS 10.6.6). 2) Documents: I would like to use migration assistant to copy all my documents, I don't see a problem with that and I was planning to do that next.
3) Settings: What I don't know is whether I should restore/migrate "settings". Are these things like my folder display preferences or power settings (which may have taken some time to get just the way I like and would like to replicate)? Are these settings that pertain to my applications, which may not link up with the newly installed (un-migrated) applications and then cause problems? Or are these things like internet settings, which I've already gotten in place and working for the new machine?
So the big question is: what "settings" are these and will they overwrite or interfere with anything that I already have set up on the new machine?

Using Migration Assistant, all of your settings will be transferred: system settings, application settings, even .ds_store files: your windows will all be in the same place as they are on your other machine; your custom icons will still be there, your file structures, your desktop picture, your passwords, pretty much everything.
If you use Migration Assistant on the initial setup, the account you transfer from your old machine will be the main admin account on the new machine. If you wait and use Migration Assistant after the initial setup, a new account will be created to contain the migrated data.

it depends on the stage of the Migration. Anyways, the data is never deleted off the old computer, so if the Migration is aborted because of a power failure, then you can simply reinstall OS X and restart the migration from scratch.

We're planning on acquiring a new iMac this upcoming week, one the has both the 256 GB SSD and the 2 TB HD.
We want to use Migration Assistant in association with our current iMac which only has a 1 TB drive.

More specifically, we want to put the applications on the 256 GB SSD and all other files on the 2 TB internal HD.

I'm running Yosemite on a separate partition. I want to copy some of my information from 10.6.8, but I want to leave 10.6.8 intact, as it is still (and will remain for quite some time) my primary operating system. Does migration assistant move the information, or copy it?

It will copy info and won't delete anything from the originating drive. If you are just looking to copy some files, log back into the 10.6.8 and copy them to the user desktop account of the other drive.
If you are looking to migrate a user account, be aware that the account name will need to be different than the one you are currently using in Yosemite.
