Excel as source - some columns String 255, some Memo

I am using several excel files as a datasource and compiling the information in a crystal report.
I can connect and run the report fine.
My problem is that the columns with a lot of text are being mapped as either string[255] or Memo. The memo fieds seem to contain all the text while the String[255] fields truncate the text in the spreadsheet.
It would seem to me that Crystal could handle any volume of data in a cell that Excel can. How do I force the columns with excessive data to map as Memo in Crytsal?
I'm using Crystal Reports 2008 v12.

Too funny. Not sure what time zone you're in, but I was workiing on this series of report starting at 6:30am. Somewhere in that time frame I realized the problem.
The limitation seems to be on the text object, not the field.
I was incorporating the field within a text object. It was being truncated under this scenario.
When I use the field on its own, it is not truncated.
Problem solved.

At this point I am doing a prototype for a series of management reports. I need to be able to work on the reports at home and at work. As such, I want direct file access so it is a little more portable.

Excel source multiple column values to oledb destination single column in ssis 2012

Excel sheet has 4 columns which is filled with data till 500 rows on each column. I want to insert those excel data into single column(PolicyIds) and am using oledb destination. In excel souce i dont hav any column header. Can anyone suggest me how can i do
this effectively. (May be i can use script task to get range of data and use it as SQL variable). Is there any best approaches.

Character field in excel output exist some junk character's

PlatForm :IBM630,PC
Operation System:windows xp,windows 2003,AIX 5.3
IAS version :10.1.2
Language :Chinese
When set desformat parameter equal to spreadsheet, character field in excel output exist some junk character's,
and as excel output data gather volume,junk character's will more and more.
But when I only get the record include junk character's,then the excel output will be ok.
How can I do to solve the problem?

PDF,RTF DESFORMAT is right,but users need spreadsheet desformat too.
the characterset is unicode,and end signal of junk character is ?/SPAN>.
When I get excel output include junk character,the same time get the junk character's record,and then get excel output only include the junk character's record,the excel output will be showed correctly,no junk characters.
How to sovle the problem?

Oops, I should have mentioned that I've repaired permissions both from a DVD bootup as well as from the current hard drive. I reinstalled the last update.

I have had a first stab at the script, below. It uses a file to store the shortcuts and command [descriptions]. You should be able to see from the script annotations how to add a new one. (I populated 1-4 with real data, but got lazy after that, so you have a few placeholders to work with first.
As I have noted, once you are happy that you have all the data in the file, you can comment out part of the script for ongoing use. (BTW, my reluctance to use Excel is that I don't currently have it installed and I don't want to offer wrong advice. If you have Numbers, I do have that and could probably modify to work with a spreadsheet from there. This might be especially useful if you have the data already sitting in Excel.)
A few things came-up whilist I was writing the script:
1.     Currently, all recipients will not only get the same tip at the same time, but they will see the names and email addresses of the others who receive them. It is possible to modify this.
2.     I have added a property gRandomCheck which keeps track of which shortcut has already been used (since the last time the script was compiled. This will prevent the same tip being sent more than once.    When all tips have been sent once, the script will alert you and not send anything until reset. It does not check on a per-addressee basis (which would be a refinement). (If you add a new addressee at this stage, the whole process will start again, and you may not really want this to be the behaviour.)
3.     The way that I have built the list, commandList, is deliberately cumbersome - it's for the sake of clarity. If you prefer, you can construct the whole list as {{shortcut:"X", command:"X"}, {shortcut:"Y", command:"Y"}}

Crystal Reports XI String [255] limit with the File System Data driver...

I was trying to create a Crystal Reports XI report to return security permissions of files and folders. I have been able to successfully connect and return data using the File System Data driver as the Data Source; however the String limit on the ACL NT Security Field is 255 characters. The full string of data to be returned can be much longer than the 255 limit and I cannot find how to manipulate that parameter.
I am currently on Crystals XI and Crystal XI R2 and have applied the latest service packs but still see the issue. My Crystal Reports Database DLL for File System data ( crdb_FileSystem.dll ) is at Product Version 11.5.10.1263.
Is it possible to change string limits when using the File System Data driver as the Data Source? If so, how can that be accomplished. If not, is there another method to retrieve information with the Windows File System Data being the Data Source? Meaning, could I reach my end game objective of reporting on the Windows ACL's with Crystal through another method?

This is a known issue. Early versions you could not create folder structures longer than 255 characters. With the updates to the various OS's this is now possible but CR did not allocate the same space required.
It's been tracked as an enhancement - ADAPT01174519 but set for a future release.
There are likely other ways of getting the info and then putting it into an Excel file format and using that as the data source.

There are tools out there to do this kind of thing....

Hi,
Have a look at program RSDEMO01 (available in the controls examples of the workbench). It demonstrates an OLE connection to Excel.
To know which excel objects, methods and properties to use it is a good idea to use the excel macro recorder - just do what you want your program to do and then translate the resulting VB code to ABAP OLE.
For the import of the clipboard data you can use CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>CLIPBOARD_IMPORT. In the result table, iirc, there is one line for each imported line and within the line the cell values are separated by tab. So there is some work left - it might be a good idea t import the data column by column.
It has been some time when I did this for a former client of me - so unfortunately I do not have the code any more.

Exporting to Excel - How to control Column Heading?

I'm working in SSRS 2012. I have one tablix in the report body. The tablix has both Row and Column Groups.
When rendering in the web browser the report page breaks on a row group. The Repeat Column Headers property is set to "True" so it shows the column headings from page to page.
When rendering in Excel, I want one worksheet and not separate worksheets so the page break is disabled via the Page Break->Disabled property expression "=IIf(Globals!RenderFormat.Name="EXCELOPENXML", True, False)".
This is all good but the Column Headings only show up once at the very top in the excel worksheet.
Is it possible to make the Column Headings repeat with each tablix data region as it is rendered vertically down the worksheet?
OR is there a way from SSRS to set the Excel property "Rows to Repeat at top" to include Column Heading; by default the SSRS Report's header is repeated in Excel, but can the number of rows be changed to include the Column Heading?
OR is there some other work around?

Based on your response, the only way to freeze the column header in excel is to freeze or split panes AFTER export to excel. well booo but I have to accept that I guess.
My first question is what I really want to do, which is to physically repeat the Column Heading in the excel rendering. I included two pictures demonstrate what I want ...

What is excel file's maximum column number limit?

Hello all,
I am writing a long csv string within one line to an excel file. When I open the generated excel file, it reports "File not loaded completely". And it only generated patial file.
I am thinking maybe excel has maximum column number limit, and my excel file required more than 312 columns, that's why it caused this problem.
Does any one know the answer?

In BI Publisher Report of excel output for one column is filled with spaces

In Excel output for one column few records are displaying as left alignment
and few record are displaying as right alignment.

Order Source Reference Column in Sales Order Form

When copying a sales order that is imported from EDI, the order source reference column in the new order refers to the original order. Is there a way to make this field refer to the same field of the original order? Or at least make it editable/updatable?

You need to follow steps in below link to model your BMM layer for the report to work with non confirmed dimensions.

Once you have followed these steps you can use the non confirmed dimension in the reports.When you see the logs to see the query generated by obiee,it generated 2 queries 1 with confirmed dimension and other with non conformed dimension.When you filter using non confirmed dimension you will now not notice any error but the results will not be filtering out because the filter will be applied only in 1 query which is valid
Now for this to work what you can do is ,instead of using the filter drag the column you like to filter as a prompt in your view.default it to the value you need using the case statement and hide it.This is one of the work around.
There may be many other work arounds for this but you need to understand that for you requirment to work you need to tweek OBIEE to generate 1 query instead of 2 queries.

Error Using Excel as Source

I am not able to use the Excel as Source, Following is the brief description of the situation
Excel Source File Kept at - Server Machine
DSN created for the Excel File on Server Machine
Agent created on the Server Machine
Development being done on the Client Machine
There is no DSN created for the Excel file on the Client Machine. Question 1 - Do we need to create a DSN even at the Cleint Side. Logically we should not. Please Clarify

Correct me If i am wrong, I guess DSN can point only to the local files on the machine.
Also,
A userDSN can be only access by the same user (logiin user) on the machine
A systemDSN can be accessed by all the users on the machine including NT services.
So even you create a UserDSN on your local machine, the file is still on server correct ?
So you may not be able to create such DSN
tell me where your agent is created. It shoudl be on same machine where your file is created. Also make sure that you use System DSN rather than userDSN as I said that userDSN is accessible to only same user, but systemDSN is availabe to all including NT services.
Just corss check every thing and let me if youu fiind any problem there.
