thanks

Hi,
Where is the excel file saved? On a network share or on the local drive?
This issue may occur if the Temp folder is not accessed successfully. We may try to clear the Temp folder with admin account and then test the issue again.
If this issue still persists, I'd recommend you have a look at the following blog article and follow the instructions in it to troubleshoot the issue:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2012/05/14/the-definitive-locked-file-post.aspx
Please let me know the result.

  • I am having trouble with an excel file wanting to save when no changes were made & opening as read only for the 2nd person - but allowing them to save the file.

    1) I am having trouble with an excel file wanting to save when no changes were made.  As soon as you open the file and exit.  It prompts for a save.
    All excel versions are 15.0.4701.1002.
    Using a table.
the functions CELL, OFFSET, TODAY, INDIRECT, NOW, INFO and RAND are not being used.
    2) Same file.   2nd person is being told they are opening the file as read only - but when they are quitting excel prompts them to save the file.
Everything was working fine.  I started having problems with Excel, IT wiped my version out and re-installed office.
File is on networked server HP - Windows Server 2012 Essentials.
We are all on Windows 8.1 Pro.
I really hope someone can help - the excel expert had no answer - and passed me along to here.

I copied the whole file and started deleting worksheets one at a time and testing it by closing it and re-opening it then closing it again – to see if it wanted to save.
Once all the pivot tables were deleted – the problem went away.
I found that some of the pivot tables had automatic refresh upon open, so this caused the excel to think data had changed.
It is fixed now.  By clicking on one cell of the pivot table, analyze, options, data and uncheck the 3rd square down to not automatically refresh.  NOT A NETWORK ISSUE.

Open your Displays system preferences.  Is there an Arrangement tab and does it show two screens?  If no Arrangement tab then your mac does not know it has two screens.  Maybe smc and pram reset will shake it free and maybe not.  Maybe there's something wrong with the connection.  Thunderbolt plugs are similar to mini-displayport plugs so make sure the plug is pushed firmly in so that essentially all the metal part disappears inside the socket.  The plugs can be a little tricky in that you need to make sure the plug is fully seated in their socket.
If you do see two screens in the Arrangement tab then click Detect Displays and Gather Windows to get the Displays preferences of the other monitor on to your main monitor.  Check the resolution and if there is a refresh rate check that as well.

  • Excel 2010 - Can't Save File Becasue It's Opened By Another User

    Hi All,
I'm using excel 2010, I can create an excel doc, update it, save it on the network, then close it. Then go out of the folder its saved in, go back in and open the file but it flags up as read only as its 'opened by another user'.
I can confirm 100% that no one else has this file open.
This affects multiple users, I have a feeling this may be caused by an update but don't have anything solid to back that theory up.
All users who have this problem are running windows 7 Pro machines, all domain joined.
    Can anyone offer any suggestions?

    Hi,
    Please try the following methods:
    Methods1:
Turn off the Details Pane shown at the bottom of Windows Explorer.  Go to Organize -> Layout -> Details Pane.  That fixes the first problem.
Turn off “Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items”  Click on Tools -> Folder Options.  In the box that opens up, click on the View tab.  Scroll down the list to “Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items” and clear
the checkbox and then click OK.  This fixes the second problem.
Turn off Preview Pane.  Go to Organize -> Layout -> Preview Pane. This fixes number 3.
    Methods2:
    Add the following registry keys:
    Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{993BE281-6695-4BA5-8A2A-7AACBFAAB69E}
    Name: EnableShareDenyNone
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Value: 1
    Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{993BE281-6695-4BA5-8A2A-7AACBFAAB69E}
    Name: EnableShareDenyNone
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Value: 1

  • Migrated files to new MBPro w/Mountain Lion, Excel Files won't save

    Hi
I have a problem along similar lines. MBP 2007 new logic board fitted. Restored files from Time Machine. iPhoto messed up - still to fix but appears to be something to do with permissions. Now to your problem, and mine, with Excel. I originally found one file opening as Read Only. Checked all the permissions, etc, as you have done. Initially thought it was only one file as others opened OK. I have now found another one with the same problem. I found that by changing the name of the file in the Finder i.e. adding a "1" to the name, the files would open OK. In looking through the Microsoft site I found one similar problem and one suggestion was to copy (I just dragged them) the files to the Desktop and see if they would open. Answer, yes they do. The theory is that there is a sharing problem. I have checked these two files and enclosing folders. Nothing is locked and nothing is, or ever has been, shared. All the permissions appear to be correct and I am signed in as Administrator. That is as far as I have got at the moment. You might like to see if your file(s) will open from the Desktop - just double click them.
Not sure where to go next but at least I can now use the files.
    TY

  • Excel file can't open via email after upgrading to OSX 10.9.2

After upgrading to OSX 10.9.2, my Excel files are not readable when sent by email. My version for Excel is 2008 for Mac V12.3.6.
I have no trouble opening Excel on my computer but cannot seem to send Excel files via email.

Thanks. Tried that and it works but I had found another alternative.
Didn't realise but my Excel file had the extension missing even though it was saved as xlsx. To solve the problem, I just clicked on 'Append the File Extension' when I 'Saved As' and it worked. Thanks for the alternative help anyway.

  • How to create a pdf file can not save as

i created pdf file, an make security option with no access print and save, when we open that file in reader, print is blocked, but save as button still appear and user could be save in other place or namefile, how to make save as not permitted

PDF like the code for web pages needs to be downloaded to your local system as a temp file so it can be processed for display.
Not being able to copy a file negates the backup capabilities of a network.

  • Can't open a file, can only save or cancel

When I click on a link for a file, like an mp3, rdp, etc. the only options I get are save or cancel.  For example, if I try to connect to a windows azure virtual machine I have to download the RDP file - I can't just click open.  Is this an IE11
issue?  Is it a group policy setting?  Is this something I can fix/change?  Can I have my IT department change something?  This is really frustrating.  Any thoughts are appreciated.
    I am running Windows 8.1 and IE11

You may have a corrupted Download History list. You can fix this by simply clearing the list using the built in functionality listed below:
    Open Internet Explorer
Press Ctrl + Shift + Del on your keyboard
Uncheck all of the boxes that are displayed in this window
    Check the Download History box
    Click Delete
    Close the Internet Explorer window
Wait for the deletion process to finish
    Open Internet Explorer
    also
maby You may be disturbed by some add-ons or malware, you’d better run Internet Explorer with “no-add-ons” model first.
    1.       Open
    Start Menu, then click all programs, select Accessories, open the  system tools;
    2.       Right-click
Internet Explorer(No Add-ons), run as Administrator.
    If
the problem disappears, it could be caused by Internet Explorer add-ons, you could try following steps to narrow down.
    1.    In Internet Explorer, click Tools and click Manage add-ons.
     2.
Disable the Google add-ons and keep the needed items on.
     3.
After finding the related item, double click the item and select Remove.
     4.
Restart Internet Explorer and check the issue again.
    Also
you can reset your IE settings. Here is an official article can be referred to.
    How
    to reset Internet Explorer settings

    If
the issue persists, you could restore the Internet Explorer by turn off and turn on the Internet Explorer feature in the control panel ->Programs and Features.
    Note:
Before you restore internet explorer, please perform a system backup first and backup your favorites.
    Besides
of above suggestions, you’d better scan your computer and clear malware in time.
    Hope
    that helps.

The report page headers consist of weekdays and the corresponding dates, meanning they are different on each page.

  • Run report in Backround and Save it automatic as Excel File

I've created a report program that uses the alv grid. I run it in background, then i want to save it automatic as an excel file.
    can y help me
    Thanks

    Hi,
When you run a report in background, irespective of the type of report, let it be Normal or ALV report, we have to use JOB FM's, such as JOB_OPEN, JOB_CLOSE. When you run a report in background, the data to be displayed is stored in the spool. So firt, you need to hold the spool data into an internal table, and then pass that internal table to GUI_DOWNLOAD, by hardcoding a path in the local system to download.
Use this FM to hold the spool output in a internal table , RSPO_RETURN_SPOOLJOB.
Hope this is helpful to you. If you need further information, revert back.

  • I save my Excel file as .PDF then send it out by email. What program is best for my use?

I want to send my Excel files as .pdf by email.  I need to know if Acrobat program is best for me.  I purchased a PDF file this morning and I don't think I need that.  From what I have seen, The Acrobat file is more what I need.  If so, then I would like to cancel the PDF file I ordered this morning and replace it with the Acrobat program.  I already have the Adobe Reader XI installed.

Fay it isn't clear what you are referencing by "PDF file" and "Acrobat file".
Yes there is the file format "PDF".
No there's no file format "Acrobat file".
Anyway, there are a number of ways to create a PDF file from an Excel file.
    From Adobe -
You can purchase ("perpetual" license or subscription) Acrobat (Standard or Pro).
After install of Acrobat you will have the Adobe PDF virtual printer which you can use to print to PDF (instead of print to paper).
After install of Acrobat you will have the PDFMaker which integrates with Office applications.
You can create a PDF from Excel using the PDFMaker.
    Or
You can subscribe to Adobe's online service "PDF Pack".
As a subscriber you go online, point the browser to the service's site, sign in, upload the Excel file and then save the output PDF to your computer.
With the PDF in hand you originate the email and attach the PDF.
    Be well...

  • How can I add/retrieve Word/Excell files to iCloud?

I have an iCloud Account that I haven't used in the past. How can I add/delete/retrieve files such as Word & Excel files?

To save arbitrary document types in iCloud on MacOS X 10.9.5 have a look at Winston Churchill's User Tip:
See this link:  Using iCloud to sync multiple document types.
This will work between Macs, but not for mobile devices.
