Exception after switching to Oracle 10g

I have a working application running on weblogic server 9.1. The server has
a DataSource pointing to an Oracle 9i instance (i am using the Oracle Thin
XA driver).
Now I tried to connect to an identical database schema running in Oracle 10g
(with the same driver). Now weblogic throws errors while deploying the
application:
The problem seems to be with an cmp entity bean for the table G_ZM_FAB which
is a synonym to a view in another schema. I have no problem accessing
G_ZM_FAB with any database tool or with sqlplus. Only weblogic gives
errors. Another entity bean pointing to a similar table works perfectly
(the second entity bean has bean managed persistence).
Do you have any idea where the problem might be? I have tried other drivers
with no success (they give other errors). When I make G_ZM_FAB a normal
table with the same structure and content, everyting works fine.
Here is the server log with the exception that is thrown:

JDBC-access behavior of the two DBMS versions. I would start by
updating the ojdbc14.jar in your WLS's server\lib directory. Download
and try Oracle's latest driver, and let me know if that solves it.

What user interface are you using?
If the tool doesn't support the SQL*Plus syntax (set serveroutput on), it probably has an option somewhere to enable DBMS Output. Not even knowing what tool you're using, it's impossible for us to guess where that option might be configured.
As others have suggested, using DBMS Output to test code is less than ideal because you're dependent on the application you're using to display it to you and not every application can or will do that. If you want to use DBMS_Output, you may need to switch to a different GUI (SQL Developer or SQL*Plus are both free utilities from Oracle). Otherwise, you'd probably be better off having the trigger do something that you can subsequently query (i.e. write a row to a log table).

  • Occi GetString causing a exception with ntdll.dll oracle 10g and MS 2005

    hi,
I am getting an exception with using Visual Studio 2005(VC++8) and occi.h 10g client.
When I run the release version I get an exception in ntdll.dll.
The problem is in the getString(). The field in the oracle table is defined as a varchar2(300).
I am new to oracle occi and need a solution because we cannot migrate to another version of the database.
These are the solutions I have tried:
download patches for MS Visual studio
download patched for oracle 10g client
Check that the charset it correct for std:string
I see that others have had the same problem but no one has a solution. If anyone has a solution please email me because I have searched for days!
    Thanks
    Sheryl

  • Table space not reduce after delete in oracle 10g

    Hi..
Based on my system, i have found that my oracle table space did not reduce after the deletion query. Why ?.. Could somebody help me. As your info, I am using oracle 10g.
    Thank you,
    Baharin

After Delete the table space will not be set free. high water mark will not be reset. to regain the space you need to recognize the objects from which you deleted the data. This can be done in many ways.
    1) Move the objects.
Alter table temp move --> optionally tablespace clause can be used. After this you need to rebuild table indexes.
    2) With 10g table can be shrinked or reorganize to free the space.
    alter table mytable enable row movement;
    alter table mytable shrink space;
    3) Export/Import
export the objects and drop and recreate with import.

  • Admin error after deploying to Oracle 10g

I'm trying to deploy Coldfusion 7.02 to Oracle 10g
Application Server. I successfully installed CF as an ear file and
deployed it to my OC4J instance. However, when I try to run the
Administrator, after logging in, I get this error message:
    java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError
    at com.verity.administration.VAdmin.<init>(Unknown
    Source)
    at
    com.verity.api.administration.VAdministration.<init>(Unknown
    Source).
    Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: Encryption algorithm
    not found
    at com.verity.security.k2.K2Encrypt.<clinit>(Unknown
    Source)
    ... 54 more
Any idea what this has to do with? One thing I have been told
is that this may have to do with ColdFusion needing to be run on
its own OC4J instance. I am still working on figuring out how to do
    that setup.

  • Oracle 11g- Straing behaviour of query after importing from Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I have a table in Oracle 10g as follows:
    Create Table xyz (col1 varchar2(50), col2 varchar2(50));
    With following Data
    Col1     Col2
    A     320
    A     110
    A     290
    A     380
    B     ABC
    B     256
    B     LMN
    I am running following Query
    select * from xyz
    Where Col1='A' and Col2=110
It works fine. But when I export this table and import it in Oracle 11g. It says invlid identifier.
But if I enclose 110 in single quotes. It works fine.
Also If I recreate this table in Oracle 11g like
    Create table xyz1
    as select * from xyz;
Now alos I am able to run this query smoothly.
    select * from xyz1
    Where Col1='A' and Col2=110
What is wrong exporting this table from 10g to 11g.
    Any comments/suggestion??
    Aarbi

The check in your where clause
Col2=110Is comparing a string (Col2 is defined as a VARCHAR) with a numeric literal, so there will be an implicit conversion taking place from character to number. The query then fails due to the B LMN row when 'LMN' fails number conversion.
I'm guessing there was there an index on the table in your 10g installation which would allow the query to be satisfied without checking the B ABC or B LMN rows but is not present or not used in the 11g installation so a full table scan results in an attempt to convert 'ABC' and 'LMN' to a number. Check the explain plans.
Or it could even just be a difference in the order in which the two conditions in the where clause are evaulated between the two versions.
The solution, as you have already found is to do a string comparision

  • Performance Problem After upgrade to oracle 10g

    Hi
I have upgrade one of my datawarehouse database from oracle 9.2.0.8 to oracle 10.2.0.4 running on solaris 9
After the upgrade jobs which were running in the database is taking hell lot of time.
The jobs are accessing the views which is used to get the monthly report data from the database.
what could be the solution and where to start from to get the RCA to resolve this performance issue
Please let me know if you require any other information
database is currently running in the automatic shared memory management mode ie SGA_MAX and SGA_TARGET parameters are defined for that

There are a lot of differences between 10g and 9i in this regard, among these are:
    - There is a default job that gathers statistics every night which is not there in 9i. You might have totally different statistics as in 9i due to that job, depending on how and if at all you used to collect statistics in 9i
    - The 10g DBMS_STATS package collects histograms on some columns by default (parameter METHOD_OPT=>'FOR ALL COLUMNS SIZE AUTO' default in 10g whereas 'FOR ALL COLUMNS SIZE 1' in 9i) which can have a significant effect on the execution plans
    - The 10g optimizer has CPU costing enabled by default which can make significant changes to your execution plans due to different costing of table scans and order of predicate evaluation. In addition it uses NOWORKLOAD system statistics if system statistics have not been gathered explicitly
    - 10g checks the min and max values stored for columns in the data dictionary. If your predicates are way off compared to these values then 10g begins to adjust the calculated selectivity of the predicate which can again significantly affect your execution plans
    - 10g introduces the "Cost Based Query Transformation (CBQT)" feature which means that rather than applying heuristic transformation rules transformations are costed and potentially discarded whereas 9i applies transformations unconditionally whenever possible
Check also the following note resp. white paper:

  • Oracle 10g RMAN is not working in RHEL 4 after fresh installation

I downloaded Oracle 10g R2 from OTN at home for self study.
I have problem with the RMAN after fresh installation Oracle 10g in RedHat Enterprise Linux AS 4. (x86)
Everything seems works fine, database mounted including EM, SQLPlus, iSQLPlus etc.
But when I attempt to execute RMAN command on the terminal, nothing is happening. No RMAN prompt, No error message!
I ran the "relink all" command but no helps.
    Please advice.

I guess you are a common Linux 'victim', you don't invoke Oracle's rman, but a Linux executable:
    http://linux.about.com/cs/linux101/g/rman.htm
Check your PATH variable, you may move $ORACLE_HOME/bin to the top.

  • Password problem in oracle 10g after upgrading from oracle 9i

    Hi to all,
    i'm migrating oracle 9i to oracle 10g. in oracle 9i username/password are same character(eg kareem/kareem)
after upgrading to oracle 10g will it create any problem. Because in oracle 10g the condition is when creating user is username and password should not contain same character (kareem/kareem not allowed).
    Thanks in advance

in oracle 10g document, they have mention below condition to create user. See the second condition.
    • Passwords must be between 4 and 30 characters long.
    • Passwords cannot be the same as the user name.
    • Passwords must be from the database character set and can include the underscore (_), dollar ($), and pound sign (#) characters.
    • Passwords cannot be Oracle reserved words.
    • Don't start the password with a numeral.
    • Don's use change_on_install or manager as passwords, since they are used by Oracle.
As i'm going to upgrade oracle 9i to 10g. if it give problem because username and password are same then i have to request my development team to change the password in their application. Can you please verify and tell me.

  • Using Oracle 10g XE on Windows 7 64-bit

After successfully installing Oracle 10g express edition on a windows 7 64-bit system several problems occurred while using it. I like to share the problems I encountered and the solutions I have found.
    IE8 problem
When opening the Oracle database homepage in Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) 32-bit version and after login everything works fine except when clicking on the “Object Browser” icon a page not found (HTTP error-404) occurs. With IE8 64-bit the error doesn’t occur. I didn’t found the cause for this, anyone know why?
ODBC problem with Data Source Administrator
The Oracle ODBC driver is located in C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN\sqora32.dll and is registered as a 32-bit driver. But the default ODBC Data Source Administrator only shows the 64-bit drivers that’s why you don’t see the Oracle ODBC driver in the driver list. The solution is to start the 32-bit version of the ODBC Data Source Administrator. You can find this version in the location %windir%\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe. The default 64-bit ODBC Data Source Administrator is located in %windir%\system32\odbcad32.exe.
    ODBC problem using Access 2003
When trying to use a created ODBC connection in MS Access 2003 an “ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified” error occurs. The cause is that MS Access 2003 is located in Program Files (x86) and this name is in the pad string used in the ODBC connection data. The Oracle TNS can not handle the ( ) used in Program Files (x86). The solution for this is to copy the msaccess.exe file form C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11 to a different folder without using ( ) and use that file to start Access.

After configuring XE on Windows 7 , if you are getting a TNS connection error , try the following.
    1) In the ODBC connection , enter the TNS service name as localhost:1521/XE , where XE is my service name mentioned in my tnsnames.ora. This should solve the connection issue and can access the database using the sys user id.
Note : Each time you reboot your machine , the following need to be done.
    (i) Navigate to C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN
(ii) Locate the exe file LSNRCTL.EXE and run it with administrator privileges ( right click asn select run as administrator )
(iii) enter stop ( e.g LSNRCTL > stop ) and wait until it is successfully completed
(iv) Turn-off the Wireless ( if ON)
    (v) enter start ( e.g LSNRCTL > start ) and wait until it is successfully completed
(vi) Navigate to All Programs --> Oracle Database 10g Express Edition
(vii) Run the "Stop Database" as Administrator and wait for the successfully completed message.
(viii) Turn-on the Wireless and wait for few seconds.
(ix) Navigate to All Programs --> Oracle Database 10g Express Edition
    (x) Run the "Stop Database" as Administrator and wait for the successfully completed message.

  • TNS-12541: No listner on Windows VISTA (oracle 10g client)

    Hi all,
After installing an Oracle 10g Client for Windows Vista, when trying to connect to the database, i got the error No listner (TNS-12541). I checked the database listner but it's running and i can connect there from XP OS client. Does anybody have an idea about that.
tnsping give the same error also but when i ping the server it gives response.
Any body has experioenced the same problem, if yes could you help please it's very urgent.
    Thanks regards
    raitsarevo

    raitsarevo,
First of all: it's not very urgent. Very urgent requests end up in a SR at http://metalink.oracle.com.
Oracle doesn't support all editions of Vista and 10g may not even support Vista at all. Please refer to the download page for 10g at http://otn.oracle.com for further details.
A non-supported edition of Mickeysoft usually results in Oracle Net issues.

  • Is it possible to install Oracle 10g database on a linux Os ?

    Hello all,
I recently installed Fedora 14, and oracle 10g free edition, on my modest laptop.
Problem is , I can't upload any scripts, because as i recently learnt from my school teacher, Oracle only works smoothly with Internet explorer browser (i.e.).
I tried using programs like winetricks to download a linux version of i.e. but in this case Oracle doesn't even open its homepage.
-In a nutshell, does anyone know a possible way to work with oracle 10g , (or any alternative), that's fully functional on linux (fedora 14) ? Download, Install steps, etc.
All i need to do is upload simple SQL scripts, and practice my " select from...." commands.
-Is oracle linux a option ? and what is it?
Thank you already for any replies, I'm really getting tired of googling threw different forums.

    Ed,
    -i knew my teacher was being stubborn;
-I meant that the winetricks version of i.e., didn't open the homepage of oracle 10g (=log in screen).
-what i was trying to do was, after having installed oracle 10g , "go to data base homepage" (openend by firefox) , once logged in with my username, upload a script , and practice typing the different (select from ...group by..etc) sql commands.
Here is one of several concepts you need to fix in your mind. Databases don't have home pages. Client applications do. Databases store and manage data. Humans at the keyboard see the client application, not the database. Oracle provides some client apps ( iSQLPlus, Oracle Enterprise Manager (Grid Control), dbcontrol, APEX) and even installs some with the database by default, but they are distinctly separate from the database, and so must be identified when talking about user interface issues. Unfortunately, telling us you tried to open "the home page of oracle" tells us nothing at all. If you had said "Tried to log in with iSQLPlus" or "I tried to connect with Apex", it would have conveyed MUCH more information. We would have then had some frame of reference as to what you were seeing.
To the "upload from where" question : I simply copied the scripts ( .sql , file) from the pc's from school, on usb, then copied them on my own system. When using the "upload scripts" option from oracle, Again, you must distinguish between "oracle" (the database) and whatever client tool you use to connect to it. "Oracle" (the database) doesn't have an "upload scripts" option. Some un-named application does.
the script is uploaded, but when i try to "run" it , nothing , blank page. no tables, nada. And given what I've said above, you can guess what this statement means. - grin -
My first guess was, well the teacher said " i.e. only " , so i tried installing i.e. , using winetricks, but i had a feeling i was going off-track, and that surely there must have been a much easier way.
Even Billy was more charitable toward your teacher than I feel. And when he is so wrong about something as simple as this, makes me wonder what else he is wrong about. And the quality of the teachers calls into question the quality of the school in general.
In fact, had I been told that by an instructor, I would make it a personal mission to prove him wrong. Not in front of the class (as much short term satisfaction as that may provide) but just by taking my laptop to his office and saying "let me show you something". One of my personal hot buttons is for someone who should know better to pronounce something as "won't work" when I've been doing it for so long and so easily as to just take it for granted.
    >
Linux (fedora 14) is up and running,
oracle 10g , linux version, was installed using detailed guide.
And yes, i will look into oracle linux, and oracle 11g ,
but i was hoping to use the same version as my school, to avoid any surprises when passing my exams.Edited by: EdStevens on Jun 13, 2011 3:02 PM

  • How to delete duplicates in oracle 10g ( strange behaviour)

Recently we migrated from oracel 8i to oralce 10g and we face this problem.
When we try to delete duplicates using rowid ( analytical functions row_number()/
or normal delete ) and commit the same , still we find some duplicates to be existing because of which we are not able to enable costriants and resulting in process failure.
When we run the same delete statement next time it removes more duplicates than the required or sometimes required duplicates resulting in abnormal behaviour.
I don not understand this strange behaviour after upgrading to oracle 10g.
It'd be great if some one who has idea on this can throw light on the same.
