I think that's a problem with the Finder, and much worse in 10.4 than previous releases. Even Locally saved files may not show up until they want to! Even when you know exactly where they are.
There's a 3rd party utility that fixes this, or at least forces an update, but I can't remember what it's called!
I don't think this is the one I was thinking about, but this should work...

  • Persistent Server (Persistent Server Id not initialized  )

Hi. I'm new with CORBA, and probably not doing things how they should be done, but when creating a new POA that holds a PERSISTENT policy I get an exception like this:

I'm usign the default ORB in the JDK 1.4.0, and the code at this point is no more complex than the HelloPersistent example. I've tried with other policies, and the POA is created when is TRANSIENT.
Should I initilize the rootPOA in any other way?
    Thanks in advance,

Actually the server id option is:
    -ORBServerId <int>
Note the lowecase d :) - that one had me going for a while.

  • Backup of windows 2012 Child Hyperv Server as saved state instead of Snapshot

I have a windows 2012 DPM server runing DPM 2012, with rollup patch applied.  Im backing up several child servers ruuning on a windows 2008 R2 Hyperv server.  All the windows 2008 child servers backup fine using snapshot, however the 2012 server
running as a child does a saved state backup, it does not have any dynmic disks.
    Any ideas why?
    Richard

    Hi,
First, SCS DPM 2012 does not support being installed on a Windows server 2012 or protecting Server 2012 until after SCS 2012 Sp1 ships later this year.
System Center DPM 2012 is not supported running on Windows Server 2012 until we release System Center SP1 later this year.  We have had reports of DPM 2012 console crashes when navigating to the recovery tab if DPM 2012 is installed on Windows server
2012.  This issue is fixed in SP1.
If you are already in this condition,  I recommend you backup the DPMDB, rebuild the DPM server using Windows 2008 R2 install DPM 2012, then restore your current database. The process is explained in the below technet article.
    Recovering DPM servers
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj244606.aspx
We also do not support protecting Windows Server 2012 using SCS DPM 2012 until after SC SP1 is released.   Please do not expect any support for DPM 2012 running on Windows Server 2012, or issues while protecting data sources in Windows Server
    2012.
However, with that said here are the general conditions that make a VM go into a saved state during backup.
    Protecting Hyper-V machines
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh757866.aspx
Conditions when DPM fails to back up Hyper-V virtual machines in an online state
By default, System Center 2012 – Data Protection Manager (DPM) performs a backup of a Hyper-V Virtual Machine (VM) in an online state. However, DPM cannot back up a Hyper-V VM in an online state, if one or more of the following
    conditions are true:
Backup (Volume Snapshot) Integration Service is disabled or not installed.
The virtual machine has one or more dynamic disks.
The virtual machine has one or more non-NTFS based volumes.
The virtual machine Cluster Resource Group in a cluster setup is offline.
The virtual machine is not in a running state.
A ShadowStorage assignment of a volume inside the virtual machine is explicitly set to a different volume other than itself.
An App-V drive is installed on the virtual machine that creates a non-NTFS volume.
These conditions are set by the Hyper-V writer. In such a case, the VM is put in a saved state before a snapshot of host volumes are taken (except when the VM is turned off) for a backup. The Hyper-V writer adds the VM in the following format:
For offline backups: Backup Using Saved State\<VMName>
For online backups: Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot\<VMName>
Additional reason if we have less than 300MB free space on a volume in the guest.

  • Running a Persistent Server outside of servertool

I would like to run my persistent server from the command line or thru a debugger. Is it possible to do it or is using servertool the only option ? When I tried to run one of the sample servers AddServer3 from command line with just the ORBInitialPort and ORBInitialHost options, I got the following error:
Persistent Server Id Not Initialized vmcid: SUN minor code 1002 Completed : maybe
    Any Help Will Be appreciated

OK, I'll answer my own question. I've only got to this after days of hunting for documentation and only managed to figure out how to make it work by looking at source code of internal classes like the com.sun.corba.se.internal.POA package. I hope anyone else who needs to do this finds this before they too waste days looking for an answer.
First - servertool. Servertool has a documented bug with command line buffer length so you have to use the class directly eg
java com.sun.corba.se.internal.Activation.ServerTool -ORBInitialPort 2020 -cmd register -server myServer -applicationName myName -classpath %CLASSPATH% -args blah -vmargs blahblah
However, this seems to hang when I pass vmargs, so I tried doing it myself with code along the lines of
// Get handle to server repository
    Repository repository = RepositoryHelper.narrow(
    orb.resolve_initial_references("ServerRepository"));
// Create server definition as per servertool register command arguments
    ServerDef server = new ServerDef(applicationName, name, classpath, _args, vmargs);
// Register the server with orbd
    int serverId = repository.registerServer(server);
    // activate the server
    Activator activator = ActivatorHelper.narrow(
    orb.resolve_initial_references("ServerActivator"));
    activator.activate(serverId);
    activator.install(serverId);
However, this also just hangs if I use vmargs, and anyway it doesn't give me command line access over my server, and I get problems with parts of my server that seem to have some sort of conflict with the environment that gets created by the server activator, for example embedded Tomcat refuses to function.
So, how to have a persistent server without using orbd and servertool.
You have to set the following orb properties.
    com.sun.CORBA.POA.PersistentServerPort
    com.sun.CORBA.POA.ORBServerId
PersistentServerPort is the port your server will run on. It must always run on this port for persistent references to be valid. Each server on a machine must obviously have a different port.
ORBServerId is an int unique for each server on the machine, greater than 0. It must always be the same for that server.
These two properties get encoded into object references so that they always point at the right place.
There is another property called com.sun.CORBA.POA.ORBActivated. The default value of this is false, and that is what you want. Don't try setting ORBActivated to false, because if you set it to anything, true, false, cheese, whatever, it will always be interpreted as true. Only if you don't set it at all will it be false. This is not obvious and as with all of this stuff is not documented.
I have only simple requirements for persistent references and the above steps work for what I need. It may not satisfy more complex operation, but hopefully this will get you started.
Finally, some requests for anyone at Sun who might be reading this. I could have saved days if any of this stuff was documented. Please in the next release can we have some documentation for the following:-
servertool - how to use it, what it does, how to do what it does yourself
orbd and server activation - how it works, works it does, how to do what it does yourself
corba minor codes - a full listing of what every minor code means, so that I don't have to look inside com.sun.corba.se.internal.POA.MinorCodes to find out.
Info about all properties that can be passed to the orb and what they do.
More detailed explanation of what happens in a persistent server. At present the only documentation says start orbd and then use servertool to register your server. This isn't enough to understand what is going on.
Finally, servertool isn't really good enough. Something a bit more controllable would be great.
    Thanks.

  • Write access to a directory for ASP 2.0 application stops working on Windows 2012 Standard Cloud Server

Just moved our ASP 2.0 based web application to a Windows 2012 Standard Cloud Server.  A directory is used for temporary copying of files for the application.  The Read Write access is properly given and everything works but then stops working
in about 2.5 hours.  The settings are still there, to make things work again typically I add "Everyone" to the security list and apply and then 3 hours later I remove "Everyone" and this refreshes the security setting and things work
againg for a couple of hours.  Last Cloud server was 2008 R2 and we had no issues.  Recently moved to this new cloud server.  Code has been functioning fine for years and can not migrate it to newer ASP since will have to make quite a few code
changes.  Obviously a bug which needs to be addressed.  Again the security settings do not disappear but are no longer handled properly every 3 hours or so.

    Hi,
Is there any other files have the same issue? Please create a test folder and give the same permissions with the directory for ASP 2.0 application to see if the issue still exists.

  • Digital Filing broken with windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2?

    Hello
Recently upgraded my machines so now I have Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 running. The scanning from my Officejet L7680 to a network share on one of these machines is no longer working.
Looking into it with network monitors I can see that the login of the user and password is working but then the save of the file on the share gives and error.
In windows 8.1 it starts creating the file but cannot add content to it (so the file is 0 Bytes in size) on Server 2012 R2 the creation of the file already gives and error.
Searching around the web seems to indicate that changes in the SMB protocol on the latest windows versions are the cause of this and other MFP suppliers are providing firmware updates to fix this. There seems no way to fix this at the Windows side.
Can HP confirm this issue and indicate which all in ones will be able to connect to network shares on these latest windows version ? With or without a firmware update.

I can confirm that I'm experiencing the same issue on my Windows 8.1 x64 machine and Windows 2012 R2 Essentials. Will there ever be a firmware update for the L7680 printer so we can get this functionality working again?

    Hello,
When you install SQL server express its instance name will be Machinename\SQLEXPRESS .After this if you want to install default instance you can go ahead and do that.Generally first instance you install becomes default instance unless you specifically give
    name for it.

  • Windows Deployment Services PXE Installation of Windows 10 Preview and Server vNext Technical Preview Failed

The automated answer file associated with Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview x64 (9481) and the Windows Server Technical Preview x64 (9841) seem to be incompatible. No problem adding both wim files to WDS, this completes without issue.
When trying to install both the Server vNext Technical Preview and Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview Via Network Installation (PXE) both encounter errors. The Server PXE Installation wont even commence after choosing the vNext Operating system installation,
and choosing the Windows 10 operating system encounters a "answer configuration error" towards the end (maybe the generalization pass?).
Anyone have a work around for configuring the answer file? or maybe a more positive experience?

We're playing around with Windows 10 TP and Server vNext also. For Windows 10 TP i got PXE based deployment running with unattend.xml from Windows 8.1. But i still did not get Server vNext deployment working.
I would also be happy if there's somebody out who has an idea on that topic.

  • Can't change printer port on Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2

    1. Install "Lexmark X646e Class Driver" using a in-box print driver (i.e. one comes with the Windows installation base) .
    2. Go to "Printer properties" -> "Port"
    3. Select a custom monitor port, and the following error occurs in Event Viewer.
An error occurred while configuring print queue 'Lexmark X646e Class Driver'. Printer driver 'Lexmark X646e Class Driver' may not be used in conjunction with a non-inbox port monitor.
Same steps applied on Windows 8 and Server 2012, and not issues found. The restriction/limitation is newly added in Window 8.1 and Server 2012 R2.
Changing to a custom monitor port after printer driver installation is very important for us.
How can we solve or workaround the above issue, so it can behave like Windows 8 and Server 2012?

What Port Monitor just so I can bubble this information to some others?
    Alan Morris Windows Printing Team
    Hi Alan:
We developed a custom printing system, which involved the following configurations:
    1. Create a custom port monitor on server 2012 r2.
    2. Change an existing print queue to use this custom port monitor, and share this print queue.
    3. All workstations will print to this shared print queue on the server.
The goal is to manage/monitor the print information in StartDocPort for all printing for instance.  This is what we've been doing for a long time.
Now we upgraded our system from server 2012 to server 2012 R2, but we can't change the port monitor to our ones anymore.
I've tried the Type3 printer driver, such as Brother Color Type3 Class Driver, unfortunately it didn't work if the installation is using "Add a printer", and select the driver from the list.
The only way to make it work is to install the printer driver using the one downloaded from the vendor's website, this will bypass Windows "Add a printer".
Is there any chance we can make this to behave like server 2012 or earlier? Modify registry keys?
    Cheers
    Steven

  • Moving to Fresh Windows OS Install on Server with Same Name

We have been having a ton of stability problem that all seem to point to the OS or Disk sub-system. The server guys want to to reinstall the Windows OS on the Server that has the DB, Admin and CCM nodes. The OS is on its owen drive and none of the Oracle files will be effected and the server will have the same name/IP Address.
I am thinking that I would just have to run Autoconfig for the DB Tier and for the Apps Tier. Or should I run adcfgclone.pl dbTier and appsTier?

    Chris,
If you are going to do a fresh OS installation, then you would need to do the following:
    - Run preclone on the database/application tier nodes
    - Take a backup of the database/application files
    - Install a fresh OS
    - Install all pre-req. software (MKS, Cygwin, VC++, ..etc)
    - Restore the database/application files
    - Run postclone on the database/appication tier nodes
If you are going to reinstall the OS, then you would need to take a backup and relink all executable files. Running AutoConfig in both cases once you are done would be a good idea.

  • How to activate Windows 8.1 on a Windows 2008 R2 KMS server when I don't have Windows 2012 R2 kms host key

I only have windows 8.1 kms host key but I can't add a client OS kms key to Windows 2008 R2 kms server. And I don't have Windows 2012 R2 license either. Is there any way I can activate Windows 8.1 using my existing kms server? Thanks.

if you have a KMShost product key for WS2012R2, you can patch a down=level Server and be fine.

This helps the community, keeps the forums tidy, and recognises useful contributions. Thanks!)
I'm having similar issues and have a similar question that doesn't seem to be answered:
My KMS server is Windows 2008 R2 (Also is my domain controller). I want to activate Windows 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 machines off this KMS server. I can install the 2012 R2 key just fine but receive error 0xC004F015 (The Software Licensing Service reported
that the license is not installed) when I try to install my 8.1 KMS key.
What I'm gathering from this thread is that I have to set up a Windows 8.1 host and set it up to be a KMS server exclusively for activating Windows 8.1. Is this correct? If so, Microsoft needs to fix that. I have a SERVER for activations for a reason: it
is a server, not a client. If I am mis-understanding, how do I get my Windows 2008 R2 server to accept the Windows 8.1 KMS key for activating 8.1 clients?
    Thanks!
You don't need Windows 8.1 KMS key. Your 2012 R2 KMS key will be able to activate your Windows 8.1 machines. So your current set up is fine, no need to set up another Windows 8.1 KMS host.
    My problem is I don't have 2012 R2 KMS key as I didn't buy any Windows 2012 R2 license. So I can't use 2012 R2 KMS key to activate my Windows 8.1.
Oh that's interesting. I guess I need to play around more because my 8.1 test machine isn't activating. I'll start a new thread for that if needed. Sorry for the confusion.

    Dear All,
Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server.
I tried it in windows 2003 server but i couldn't. Atlease tell me wheather it support windows 2000 adv. server. This is my first dba job.
Under Doc ID: 66397.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Not Support Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition.
Under Doc ID: 77627.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2000 Support.
    Please help me out urgently.

Since you have access to Metalink, you could be looking at the Certify tab to find this information. But, the answer is that 8.1.6 is no longer supported by Oracle. However, you should be able to install it on Win 2000 advanced server. You just can't get any support for it.
The earliest version of db supported on Win 2003 was either 9.0 or 9.2, but 9.0 is desupported now as well.

    Hi.
I think I solved this yesterday. We got 1 printserver, with an alias, which we had this problem to connect to. I noticed that there is a difference between x86 and 64bits system entries in the registry...
When you are having a 64bit system, you must use REG_QWORD instead of REG_DWORD, REG_DWORD is only to be used in x86 system! See below.
    Windows 2008 server R2 64-bit
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print
    = ”DnsOnWire” = REG_QWORD Decimal = 1
    (reg add hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control\print /v DnsOnWire /t REG_QWORD /d 1)

    (reg add hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameters /v DisableStrictNameChecking /t REG_QWORD /d 1)
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters\
    REG_SZ = OptionalNames = “aliasname” (C-name record in DNS)
    (reg add hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameters /v OptionalNames /t REG_SZ)

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanManServer\Parameters\  REG_SZ = OptionalNames = “aliasname”
    (C-name record in DNS)
    (reg add hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameters /v OptionalNames /t REG_SZ)
Don't forget to reboot your system after these changes!

  • Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server.

    Hi,
I was wondering about running Adobe Acrobat Std X (10) on a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server for two users. Anyone else that have any experience with this? Best solution?
    Best regards
    Vegard

Although Server 2008 R2 is a supported install platform, you'll have to be extremely careful about licensing - Acrobat is not a server product, so the only person who would be legally permitted to connect to it would be the one who owns the copy of Acrobat in question. Sharing a copy between multiple users is not an option; for that there are dedicated server-based solutions such as LiveCycle.
