Exception in PLSQL

Hello,
I have a problem to catch exception in this proc :
create or replace procedure MAPROC (nom_snapshot in varchar2) is
ladate varchar2(20);
BEGIN
select sysdate into ladate from dual;
dbms_snapshot.refresh(nom_snapshot);
execute immediate 'UPDATE update_snapshot set DATE_REFRESH = to_date(''' || ladate || ''') where nom_snapshot = '''|| nom_snapshot || '''';
COMMIT;
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
execute immediate 'UPDATE update_snapshot set ERREUR = ' || SQLERRM || ' where nom_snapshot = '''|| nom_snapshot || '''';
END;
the proc MAPROC is in called in :
DECLARE
nom_snapshot varchar2(50);
cursor c1 is select b.nom_snapshot from user_snapshots a
begin
open c1;
loop
fetch c1 into nom_snapshot;
exit when c1%NOTFOUND;
MAPROC(nom_snapshot) ;
end loop;
close c1;
end;
the second proc is in error because i can't catch the error in the exception step of MAPROC. However, the error is due to the following step in MAPROC :
dbms_snapshot.refresh(nom_snapshot);
How can i do to catch the exception in MAPROC, and not allow it to climb in the second proc.
Thanks

Thanks for all your answers.
I'm too busy today to test every remarks you've made.
however, i just want to explain the final goal of the procs. maybe it will be easier for you to find a solution, or a better way to do this :
i want to make a proc that refresh oracle snapshot.
so i put in a cursor the list of snapshot for the oracle user
(select name from user_snapshots)
then for each snapshot name, i have to do :
truncate trable "snapshot name"
dbms_snapshot.refresh("snapshot name")
update TABLE set date = "sysdate" where snapshot_name = "snapshot name"
if it fails, principally, the refresh step which it a source of pbs, i want to do :
update TABLE set error= "Oracle error" where snapshot_name = "snapshot name"
So to do this, i thougt it will be better to divide the work in 2 step (and procs) :
the first proc which select the list
the second proc, which is doing the refresh, etc ... for every snapshot.
so if you think my method is not the good one, I'm open to try another.
but, don't use something to hard, i'm not an PL/SQL expert, but you surely already know this.

  • TIME OUT EXCEPTION IN PLSQL

    Hi All,
    I'm newbie to plsql.
    Is there any way to find out exact time interval to exceute any specific procedure?
    I wrote a procedure which is internally calling some other built in procedure and hanging out there. i dont know the exact reason.
    But i want to raise timeout exception in my procedure. Can somebody please post any sample code to handle timeout exception.
    Regards,
    Shravan.

    Hi this is the Oracle Designer forum. You would be better of asking the question over at the PL/SQL place

  • Return User Defined Exceptions from SP

    Hi,
    Is it possible to return user defined business exceptions from a stored procedure to the dotnet app. through ODP. NET( equivalent to the throw keyword in Java)?
    I would prefer to handle all of the oracle expections in the try catch block of the C# code.
    Thanks,
    Peeyush

    Is your question how to return a custom exception from PLSQL? You'd use RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR for that, and yes it would propagate via ODP to the calling application.
    Here's a simple dumb example:
    create or replace procedure raise_my_error as
    begin
    raise_application_error(-20001,'something bad happened');
    end;
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • Oracle Portal not working after upgrading from 1.0.2 to 1.0.2.1

    Hi All,
    Previously I had
    9iAS : 1.0.2.0.0
    Portal: 3.0.7.6.2
    OS: Win NT
    and I upgraded to
    9iAS: 1.0.2.1.0
    Portal: 3.0.8 (using scripts)
    Now the scenario is
    I can access: Apache, Servlet(IsItWorking) and JSP samples. But now I can't access Oracle portal (ie http://host:port/pls/portal30/). Even Login Server is coming properly (ie http://host:port/pls/portal30_sso/)
    There was no errors during upgrade scripts. Also I check the portal30 schema for invalid objects. But there were no invalid objects in that schema.
    According to me, all the modules of apache are working only except mod plsql and so i can not access Portal. It gives misconfiguration error from apache. So what can be the problem??
    Any ideas in this.
    Thanks in advance.

    There was an issue reported on this upgrade having to do with multiple entries in the Apache configuration files. Check your .conf files for duplicate entries.

  • How to make artificial delay in pl/sql  on forms

    hi gurus,
    I am using
    Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2 (Production)
    Oracle Toolkit Version 10.1.2.0.2 (Production)
    PL/SQL Version 10.1.0.4.2 (Production)
    Oracle Procedure Builder V10.1.2.0.2 - ProductionActually I am making Bulk SMS sending program using java classes. code works in java plateform very nicely..
    same class I am calling on oracle forms , but code executes even less then a second . but I wanna stop the execution of pl/sql stored procedure for 3 seconds untill java class sends sms to the recipeint's number.. and then iterate towards the next one.
    for example
      for i in 1..100 loop
          stored_procedure_having_javaclass(org1 ,arg2);
          deley_of_secends(3);
       end loop;for this i have tried..
            dbms_look.sleep(3);while using this on database level in anonymous block it's working very fine , I think to make a stored procedure and then call it on oracle forms , but when use this same in stored procedure it gives me error that this fucntion must be declared , also I can't use any of this kind function in oracle forms.
    what should I do ?
    thanks
    regards:
    usman noshahi

    Other alternative...
    As you use java stored procedure... put the
    Thread.sleep(m_sec);inside your java procedure...
    or.. (some example)...
    DROP JAVA SOURCE INIS_PROD."Sleep";
    CREATE OR REPLACE AND RESOLVE JAVA SOURCE NAMED "Sleep"
    as import java.io.*;
    public class Sleep extends Object
       public static void sleep()
          try
             Thread.sleep(3000);  //<----------- you can also put input param if you want..
          catch(Exception ex)
    }plsql wrapp
    create or replace procedure p_sleep
    as language java name
    'Sleep.sleep() ';and test..
    begin
       p_sleep;
       dbms_output.put_line('ooo');
    end;

    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('error has occured inside begin block');

    First of all your namee exception which you have posted i.e invalid_number itself is wrong.
    You need to use named exception VALUE_ERROR for catching the exception in the main block.

  • Oracle BI 11.1.1.7.1: Calling BI webservices from Plsql Procedure: ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError

    Hi,
         I have a requirement of calling BI webservices from Plsql stored procedure. I generated all my wsdl java classes and loaded them into the database. However, when I tried to call one of my java class using stored procedure, it is giving me"ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError".
    *Cause:    A Java exception or error was signaled and could not be
               resolved by the Java code.
    *Action:   Modify Java code, if this behavior is not intended.
    But all my dependency classes are present in database as java class objects and are valid. Can some one help me out of this?

    Stiphane,
    You can look in USER_ERRORS to see if there's anything more specific reported by the compiler. But, it could also be the case that everything's OK (oddly enough). I loaded the JavaMail API in an 8.1.6 database and also got bytecode verifier errors, but it ran fine. Here are the errors I got when loading Sun's activation.jar, which ended up not being a problem:
    ORA-29552: verification warning: at offset 12 of <init> void (java.lang.String, java.lang.String) cannot access class$java$io$InputStream
    verifier is replacing bytecode at <init> void (java.lang.String, java.lang.String):12 by a throw at offset 18 of <init> void (java.lang.String, java.lang.String) cannot access class$java$io$InputStream
    verifier is replacing bytecode at <init> void (java.lang.String, java.lang.String):18 by a throw at offset 30 of <init> void (java.lang.String, java.lang.String) cannot access class$java$io$InputStream
    verifier is replacing bytecode at <init> void (java.lang.String, java.lang.String):30 by a throw
    Hope this helps,

    This was upgraded to 3.1 from a month back and there
    are no messages on the development box where the
    envirnoment is the sameI'm not sure (at the moment I have not instance with APEX here) but FLOWS_030000 should be APEX 3.0 package...
    So to say it's a corpse of previous APEX installation...
    But there is an Oracle Application Express (APEX) where you can ask further questions about APEX structure.

  • Plsql exceptions from Java?

    If I have plsql like this:
    blue exception;
    red exception;
    Is there some way that I can tell from
    which java which of those exceptions has
    been raised? (I am aware of raise_application_error).

  • Exception part in PLSQL

    Hi Friends,
    i have come across some PLSQL coding practices in which a large set of code is written in the exception part and even another exception inside this exception part.Is this a good coding practice ?I have read somwhere that it is not,Please advice.
    BEGIN
    EXCPETION
    WHEN XXX
    THEN
    /*Codes*/
    END;
    Another thing is that in PLSQL sometimes in exception part we specify NULL; .I have also read about this somewhere that it is not a good practice to give null , even not in exception part.ie
    IF X < Y
    THEN
    NULL;
    ELSE
    /*Codes*/
    END IF;
    Is there any reason for this.

And whether that huge block of code is an exception handler or not, is besides the point.
    So it is not about the amount of code in the exception handler - it is about whether that exception handler is correctly used and whether the code in that exception handler block is modularised (as all other code).

If you believe that coding a null; statement makes your code more readable, easier to to understand and maintain, then use it.

  • Need plsql exception handler

    Could some good soul share a tested plsql exception handler package that I could use as a start for my project.
    Thanks in anticipation.

    I was actually looking for some already coded package I could use.Nope, there isn't any. Simply because every application differs.
    That's why exceptions were invented in the first place.
    All you need to do is to understand your transactions, what you're doing, and only catch errors you expect.
    Catching anything else is a bug you've created by yourself.
    Don't try to handle anything you didn't expect.

  • Capturing error in Exceptions Block in a PLSQL Procedure

    Hi,
    I am creating a procedure where i need to update a table with some constraints.
    i need to update atleast a million records with data from another table.
    but here is the catch while updating million records, there may be some records which wont be vaild because of the constraints and cannot be updated and hence will give an error.
    but in my procedure i want to write an exception block where it captures the error, ignores the error and keep coninuing the procedure and update all the remaining records instaed of getting hanged at the point of erorr.
    How can i do this.
    I know i can disable the constraints in the table.
    but i want the constraints enabled, so that the errors are trapped and skipped and only the records that are valid are updated.
    Can seomone help me write this exception block which does this function.
    Thanks,
    Philip.

    Hi,
    I used the exception bloack as u said.
    i have a sample of 20 records and i know the 11th record is not valid and should be inserted in a different way from the rest 19 records.
    so i ran the same query with the exceptions block.
    but what happened, until 10th record everything was fine.
    on the 11th record the execution went into the exceptions block and executed whatever was there in the exception block, but then the script just exited after exception block, it did not go back to fetch the remaining records from 12th unitl 20th.
    How can i fix this.
    Philip.
