Can someone help me how to fix this?

I think this means that the applet has an error: it tries to access a class that doesn't exist, or looks for it in the wrong place. Could you send a link so that people can try it out?

Null pointer exception in Search page with ADF

I have an entity and view object for table1. I created one more viewobject for the same entity object. And the viewobject has the following query with a bind variable.

JSP page with applet

Hi all,
I'm making a jsp page with an applet and some tabs.
I use tabs to show or don't show some tabels and the applet.
When a tab is clicked the table is rendered or not rendered. And for the applet I render a panelgroup to show or hide the applet.
The problem is that when I click the tab that should render the panelgroup that contains the appplet, the applet is loaded every time again the tab is clicked.
This takes a lot of time.
Is it possible to hide the applet, but keep it in memory so that when ik click the tab to show the applet again, the applet shows the previous state it was in?

Can you please explain in more details how to do what you say in you're first post. "set its size to 1x1 pixel".
Like on what sort of component to click, and how to set the panel size?

Plugin problem in JSP page with applet

i am using applets in my jsp page. the applet works properly if the java plugin is installed. it is not working with the default jvm.
my question is
if any client who does not have java plug in, views the page the plugin should be downlaoded automaticllly.
how do i get this happen.

If you are using the <applet> tag, then it will not try to download the plugin. You should use the <object> and <embed> tags, which will only use the plugin, not the default JVM.

Only IE has a JVM built-in (and Netscape 4.x, if anyone still uses it). And in either case, that JVM is version Java 1.1.4, so it's very old.

HTML Page with Applet in JEditorPane

Hi,
I have a JEditorPane in which i want to show a HTML page which has an Applet embedded in it. Is there anyway that I can do this as if I just give the URL of the HTML file it gives me a text field with applet tag written in it.
Or is there any other way that I can embed an Applet in my application in one of Swing components.

Navigate to a page with this.pageNum

Hi,
I have a 3D PDF and I have added several other pages with normal text to this pdf. The 3D Media is on the first page. Now I'd like to navigate from the first page with Javascript to an other page.
this.pageNum = 3;
works for all pages except the first page with the 3D media.
When I am on the first page and call this.pageNum = 3; page zooms out and centers the 3D Media but doesn't go to the page 4. But when a press then the adobe button for going to the next site, the pdf goes directly to the fourth page.

I know, but I have no other idea, how I could resolve this. DBA do not want to see hundreds of Discoverer user created in the database. I have to authenticate users via APEX (calling Microsoft Active Directory using the built in LDAP package) and then I have to navigate them to the appropriate Discoverer enabled Oracle user. This seemed to be the less painful solution.
These are simple end users, and reports are not that sensitive to justify more effort than described above.

I created a servlet who can manage file upload from an HTML page.
Now I want to replace that HTML page with an applet.
I know that I need to use multipart/form-data , but I have no experience with applet.
HTML page code is:

If you use something like Apache Http Client you dont have to do any low level implementations.
Also if you are the one who is writing both servlet and applet you dot have to stick to standerd formats. you can develop your own format and write both servlet and applet to handle it. that kind of thing can be done easily even with URLConnection. But if you plan to send large files then URLConnection may not be the right option becouse I have seen many complaining that URLConnection gives OutOfMemoryErrors when uploading large amounts of data.

Displaying html page with in the applet

I want to open an html page in the applet. If i use showDocument() of applet, it opens the html page in the browser, but i want to open the html page with in the applet(i.e., applet should display the html page). Is there any way which i can do the above thing.

Use a JEditorPane to display HTML (supports version 3.2 though)
check API (that's for JDK 1.4.1 so check for version you use)

Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer, after i add the exception, get the certificate i get a blank page with big letters NOT FOUND.

www.google.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed.
The certificate is only valid for 78-159-121-201.local
(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)
After i add an exception for the site, i get this:

Wrong site:
Certificate belongs to a diffrent site, which could indicate an identity theft.
Unknown Identity
Certificate is not trusted, because it hasn't been verified by a recognized authority.
And then a blank page with big letters "Not Found"

Do NOT add a security exception: someone is tampering with your internet connection!
When you ask to connect to these sites using https, Firefox gets a certificate from the website which responds. Anyone can make a certificate, but to be valid the certificate must be signed by an organization which Firefox trusts.
The person responding provided a certificate with its response which which was not signed by anybody, so Firefox doesn't know who sent the response, and neither do you.
In short: you asked to talk to google and google did NOT send the response.
As this is happening for several different websites, the attacker is probably on the network between your computer and the internet. Ask the people you get your internet connection for help: they may have had their computers hacked, may discover that the problem exists further along in the network, or they may even be responsible themselves.

Security Exception with applets

How do I overcome the securityexception I face with applets? My appletviewer works fine when I try to read data from a local text file. But the browser doesn't seem to. It says access to the text file is denied!!!

Appletviewer works but only in debug, isn't it?
If you can read file from local, you must sign you applet by jarsigner tool contributed in your JDK.
If you have not certificate for sign, you can generate your own certificate:
1.generate key (name of the key will be tstkey)
keytool -genkey -keyalg rsa -alias tstkey
2. complete data
3. export key (will be in your current directory in file tstcert.crt)
keytool -export -alias tstkey -file tstcert.crt
4. make *.jar file
jar cvf MyApp.jar
5. check *.jar file
jar tvf MyApp.jar
6. sign applet
jarsigner MyApp.jar tstkey
7. check sign of applet
jarsigner -verify -verbose -certs MyApp.jar
Tha is all. At this moment is your applet signed and you can write or read local file.

Problems with applet for displaying desktop app's output

I inherited a desktop C++ (VC6) application that uses the user's web browser for output. When the system first wants to display output it writes a temporary html file, fires up the web browser with an html page with an applet that opens a socket that listens for messages on a particular port. The C++ app then sends the temp file name through the socket for the applet to display. When new output comes along the new file name gets sent through the socket and the applet updates the web page (so all of this work is just so that you don't get a new web page for each output). It uses a similar mechanism to display help (sending the relevant section number through the socket). The relevant Java looks something like this:
     m_serverSocket = new ServerSocket(m_theApp.m_port);
and then later
     clientSocket = m_serverSocket.accept();
Recently the Sun decided that connecting to localhost is a security risk (see http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-66-246387-1), so that this accept() now throws a security exception. I'm trying to fix this but I'm not getting anywhere. Here are the things I've tried and decided doesn't work (feel free to point out mistakes or misunderstandings on my side, I'm a noob at java):
1) I changed the C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\security\java.policy file to add "accpet" for localhost:
          permission java.net.SocketPermission "localhost:1024-", "listen,accept";
this works, but I can't use this because a) it isn't safe, b) we don't want users to have to change their java.policy files and obviously the installer can't do it
for them.
2) I don't want to sign the applet because this will be really confusing to users (why should they be asked to trust anything from a desktop app that doesn't even do
anything over the net?)
3) I've tried passing a command line parameter to the applet in order for it to use an "application" specific policy file, but it seems that an applet can't take
the -Djava.security.policy command line parameter.
4) I've read that unsigned applets can (only) open sockets back to the server from which it was loaded, but I'm not using a webserver so there is no server URL (and
localhost doesn't work).
I'm out of ideas but would love to hear some!

Pay $150 or so to get your certificate signed by one of the major Certification Authorities. Signing your Jar will then stop the user being asked if he trusts the signer.

Problems with applets.

Hi to everybody.
I've got a problem with simple applets.
I've built several applets using Swing components (JApplet, JPanel, JButton, etc.)
In my browser, the background color of my applets does correctly appear.
But none of my components does !!!! No text fields, no buttons etc.
Can someone explain to me which could be the reason of that ?

I've just tried appletviewer. And I discovered that there is a problem while trying to acces to a jpeg file for my JBuutons and JLabel.
Appletviewer considers these files are on the client machine and refuses the acces.
But when I try my site, the server is my computer too ! So the jpegs are on the server side !
Furthermore, when I start my web page (that contains my applets), nothing does appear (no exception) in the java console...
How can I solve this problem (I'm newer with applets)?

Security issues with Applets

I have a web server that has access to a database server as i am able to create web pages with ASP and connect to the database fine using a DSN, i have created a web page that contains an applet, the applet attempts to connect to the database but i get a security error, how do i overcome this security issue, the sucurity error looks like this:
Exception: java.security.AccessControlException: accessdenied(java.lang.RuntimePermission accessClassInPackage.sun.jdbc.odbc)
Can anyone help??

There is a java.policy file in
C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1\lib\security\java.policy
And a tool you can use in
C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1\bin\policytool.exe
You might have to tell the policytool.exe where to open the java.policy file.
You can also just modify it in a text editor and save it as plain text when you are done.
I don't know which permission you should look for, but you can try with
grant {
permission java.security.AllPermission;
and remove or comment out the other lines. Make a backup of the policy file before you try it. Restart the browser.
Note that you have to do this on all client machines that wants to run your applet.
