Excessive joins

I have a logical database design (3NF) with 19 joins to a base table. Realizing that joins are a performance killer, would it be advised to pull the joined values into the base table, place pre_insert and pre_update triggers on the base table to validate the data and remove the relationships to the 19 joined tables?

Joins are not a performance killer in Oracle. joining tables is what it is designed to do. As long as you have appropriate indexes on all of the tables to faclilitate the joins, you should not see much difference in performance between joining tables and de-normalizing your data. Have you actually benchmarked the time difference?
As Andrew points out, the perfomance of inserts and updates will suffer because of the triggers required for validation. Unless you are working in a huge data warehouse environment, I would stick with the normalized version.
You could also potentially run into integrity problems as well if you denormalize the data. What happens if someone deletes rows from one or more of the joined tables? You now have values in your base table that do not exist in the lookup tables.

  • [JPA] How to avoid excessive joins in queries on InheritanceType.JOINED

    Hi,
Let me use an over-simplified example to illustrate my question:
Let's assume I have two classes: SuperClass and SubClass. As the name suggests, SubClass extends SuperClass.
I have mapped them in JPA via:
    @Inheritance(strategy=InheritanceType.JOINED)
    @DiscriminatorColumn(name="CTYPE", discriminatorType=DiscriminatorType.INTEGER)
@PrimaryKeyJoinColumn(name="ID")And now let's suppose I run the following query:
Query q = entityManager.createQuery("select o.id from SubClass o");In this case, TopLink Essentials generates SQL with a join between the base table and the detail table. Why? All I need is the ID which is available in the detail table too. The base table doesn't need to be included in the query.
Is there a way to avoid the unnecessary join? I even tried mapping the ID column in both entities but it didn't help.
    Best regards,
    Bisser

Thank you for you reply, Doug!
I don't want to instantiate SubClass. I only wish to get the ID. I don't need validations or fields from the superclass.
Should I resort to using native SQL for that?
(By the way, the real query that I use in my program instantiates a completely different entity. I use the SubClass in a subquery. And I don't need the SuperClass to get involved. I have a foreign key that guarantees that the SuperClass's row exists in the database.)
    Best regards,
    Bisser

  • OBI EE 10g: Bridge tables and Based on Dimensions Aggregation

    hi experts,
    i am working on OBI EE 10 g (10.1.3.4)
    The BM&M layer consist of:
    1) Logical fact table "Sale_Indicators"
    Fields: SALE_ID (PK, FK),
    D1_ID (FK),
    D2_ID (FK),
Indicator1 (measure, level of granularity: SALE_ID),
Indicator2 (measure, level of granularity: SALE_ID),
Indicator3 (measure, level of granularity: SALE_ID)
    2) Logical dimension table
    "Sales" (PK: SALE_ID),
    "D1" (PK: D1_ID),
    "D2" (PK: D2_ID),
    "Customers" (PK: SALE_ID, CUST_ID) - bridge table!
    "Products" (PK: SALE_ID, PROD_ID) - bridge table!
    3) Dimensions: SalesDim, D1Dim, D2Dim, CustomersDim, ProductsDim
If fact table is joined with bridge table, the number of rows in fact table is multiplied, for example:
    D1_ID | SALE_ID | CUST_ID | Indicator1
    777 | 1 | 14 | 10
    777 | 1 | 17 | 10
    777 | 2 | 15 | 12
    888 | 3 | 16 | 20
    888 | 3 | 17 | 20
    888 | 4 | 19 | 30
    I need to get report:
    D1_ID | Indicator1 (SUM)
    777 | 22
    888 | 50
and with filter by customer, for example (CUST_ID = 17):
    D1_ID | Indicator1 (SUM)
    777 | 10
    888 | 20
i am trying to use "based on dimension" aggregation, for example (Indicator1):
    Dimension Formula
    CustomersDim MIN
    ProductsDim MIN
    Others SUM
The generated physical SQL performs joining EVERY dimension to the fact table, even though they are not included in the final result set.
Is there any way to tweak logical or physical model in order to eliminate excessive joins?
    Thanks in advance!

I found this text on the help, but I didn't understand, because when I check the "based on dimensions" check box, I can choose aggregation rules for each dimension, not only the time dimension.
Also, I found in the help menu:
"In the Aggregation tab, select the Based on dimensions check box.
The Browse dialog box automatically opens.
In the Browse dialog box, click New, select a dimension over which you want to aggregate, and then click OK.
In the Aggregation tab, from the Formula drop-down list, select a rule."
I did the same steps suggested by the text above, but it didn't work.

  • Excessive Data Overages?  Join me in a complaint!

Twice in the past few months, Verizon has hit me with enormous data overages that have resulted in more than doubling my normal bill.   Customer service stance is that I do not understand the data that I am using, which is absurd. (And if that truly was the case, how unethical is it that an average person cannot easily understand how to control data usage?  Is there a secret manual?)  Since the Verizon refuses to resolve or effectively even investigate my concerns, I am led to believe that this is an intentional attempt to extort exorbitant fees from account holders.   I believe that they count on the many people will continue to pay without questions and offset the customers that they lose.  I am researching filing a claim with the FCC and with my state's Attorney General.  If you are interested in adding your voice and your concerns, please message me.
Update:   I turned off all cellular data on both phones (both are iphone 5C) on 3/10/15.   As of 3/16/15 at 11:00 AM, Verizon is charging me for an additional 5 GB of usage since the data was turned off.   Seriously?    Please join me in exposing Verizon!

We had this problem, too. We've had the same plan for over a year, and all of a sudden, something - Verizon couldn't tell me what - started using more than 1GB or even 2 GB in a minute. One report showed something used a full 5GB in two minutes! We hadn't changed anything on our phones, and we couldn't figure out what was using up so much data in the span of a minute or two. We were both getting 8 or 9 alerts+ within seconds of each other about every hour. Verizon kept telling me to look at their handy new data usage plan, but it only tells you by minute what data you are using. It does NOT tell you WHAT is using that data, so you have no idea how to change whatever is using the data. I called Verizon immediately when this happened, and they were not very helpful at all. The person I spoke to said that the phone could not have changed settings or applications by itself, so it must have been something we did, or someone else did to out phone without us knowing. Her advice was to up the data usage plan, but she was not very helpful about finding out how to fix the problem, and she certainly wasn't going to give us a break on this bill, even though we have been customers for 17 years, have never missed a payment, and haven't gone over data usage before. (There may have been one time when we went on vacation out of bounds, but we knew that would happen). The customer service rep went on to say that we should be more careful, and at least we have learned something from this.  Wow, thanks, Verizon. So, now I have to pay more for data usage they can't even identify, and they are unwilling to be helpful about the situation.

  • Query Degradation--Hash Join Degraded

    Hi All,
I found one query degradation issue.I am on 10.2.0.3.0 (Sun OS) with optimizer_mode=ALL_ROWS.
This is a dataware house db.
All 3 tables involved are parition tables (with daily partitions).Partitions are created in advance and ELT jobs loads bulk data into daily partitions.
I have checked that CBO is not using local indexes-created on them which i believe,is appropriate because when i used INDEX HINT, elapsed time increses.
I checked giving index hint for all tables one by one but dint get any performance improvement.
Partitions are daily loaded and after loading,partition-level stats are gathered with dbms_stats.
We are collecting stats at partition level(granularity=>'PARTITION').Even after collecting global stats, there is no change in access pattern.Stats gather command is given below.
    PROCEDURE gather_table_part_stats(i_owner_name,i_table_name,i_part_name,i_estimate:= DBMS_STATS.AUTO_SAMPLE_SIZE, i_invalidate IN VARCHAR2 := 'Y',i_debug:= 'N')
Only SOT_KEYMAP.IPK_SOT_KEYMAP is GLOBAL.Rest all indexes are LOCAL.
Earlier,we were having BIND PEEKING issue, which i fixed but introducing NO_INVALIDATE=>FALSE in stats gather job.
Here,Partition_name (20090219) is being passed through bind variables.
    SELECT a.sotrelstg_sot_ud sotcrct_sot_ud,
    b.sotkey_ud sotcrct_orig_sot_ud, a.ROWID stage_rowid

During normal business hr, i found that query takes 5-7 min(which is also not acceptable), but during high load business hr,it is taking 30-50 min.
I found that most of the time it is spending on HASH JOIN (direct path write temp). We have sufficient RAM (64 GB total/41 GB available).

    Hi Randolf,
Thanks for the time you spent on this issue.I appreciate it.
    Please see my comments below:
    1. You've mentioned several times that you're passing the partition name as bind variable, but you're obviously testing the statement with literals rather than bind
variables. So your tests obviously don't reflect what is going to happen in case of the actual execution. The cardinality estimates are potentially quite different when
using bind variables for the partition key.
Yes.I intentionaly used literals in my tests.I found couple of times that plan used by the application and plan generated by AUTOTRACE+EXPLAIN PLAN command...is same and
    caused hrly elapsed time.
As i pointed out earlier, last month we solved couple of bind peeking issue by intproducing NO_VALIDATE=>FALSE in stats gather procedure, which we execute just after data
load into such daily partitions and before start of jobs which executes this query.
Execution plans From AWR (with parallelism on at table level DEGREE>1)-->This plan is one which CBO has used when degradation occured. This plan is used most of the times.

doesn't need to (shouldn't) share execution plans therefore. So I strongly suggest to use literals instead of bind variables. This also solves any potential issues caused
    by bind variable peeking.
This is a custom application which uses bind variables to extract data from daily partitions. So,daily automated data extract from daily paritions after load and ELT process.
Here,Value of bind variable is being passed through a procedure parameter. It would be bit difficult to use literals in such application.
    3. All your posted plans suffer from bad cardinality estimates. The NO_MERGE hint suggested by Timur only caused a (significant) damage limitation by obviously reducing
the row source size by the group by operation before joining, but still the optimizer is way off, apart from the obviously wrong join order (larger row set first) in
particular the NESTED LOOP operation is causing the main troubles due to excessive logical I/O, as already pointed out by Timur.
Can i ask for alternatives to NESTED LOOP?
    4. Your PLAN_TABLE seems to be old (you should see a corresponding note at the bottom of the DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY output), because none of the operations have a
filter/access predicate information attached. Since your main issue are the bad cardinality estimates, I strongly suggest to drop any existing PLAN_TABLEs in any non-Oracle
owned schemas because 10g already provides one in the SYS schema (GTT PLAN_TABLE$) exposed via a public synonym, so that the EXPLAIN PLAN information provides the
"Predicate Information" section below the plan covering the "Filter/Access" predicates.
Please post a revised explain plan output including this crucial information so that we get a clue why the cardinality estimates are way off.
I have dropped the old plan.Got above execution plan(listed above in first point) with PREDICATE information.
"As already mentioned the usage of bind variables for the partition name makes this issue potentially worse."
Is there any workaround without replacing bind variable.I am on 10g so 11g's feature will not help !!!
How are you gathering the statistics daily, can you post the exact command(s) used?
    gather_table_part_stats(i_owner_name,i_table_name,i_part_name,i_estimate:= DBMS_STATS.AUTO_SAMPLE_SIZE, i_invalidate IN VARCHAR2 := 'Y',i_debug:= 'N')

  • Dedicated Archive mailbox databases generate excessive whitespace

Our company has several mailbox databases that are dedicated to arhive mailboxes.  I just joined the company a month ago and found one database that was about 500 GB with about 300 GB of whitespace!  So, I created a new DB and moved all the archive
mailboxes, and removed the original DB.  at the time there was minimal whitespace.  Today, the DB is in much the same condition.  what makes this so odd is that there are less that 30 mailboxes on database!  Further, it seems
as though these DBs are also generating way too many transaction logs and causing management to become concerned about drive space and DBs dismounting.   Bottom line:  how can I determine what is causing the excess whitespace to be generated?

    Hi,
I recommend you refer to the following article :
    Exchange 2010 whitespace reclamation
In addition, as Ed mentioned, you can monitor the available new mailbox space with the following command:
get-mailboxdatabase  -status | ft Name, AvailableNewMailboxSpace
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

  • The system is making excess payment of lunch subsidy

    Dear All,
we have an issue with a wagwtype called lunch subsidy. The wage
type works fine for every one but when it come to a newly joined
    executive it makes excess payments.
Lunch Subsidy for an executive is max Rs 1000/- for the month
    (excluding Holidays)
There is a PCR which calculates the lunch subsidy days .
Issue is that the PCR calculates the lunch subsidy days correctly for
executives from the second month onwards.i.e where it finds a full
    month.
When an exucutive joins in the middle of the months or on the last day
of the month the PCR is unable to calculate the days from joning date ,
insted it calculates for whole month and give Rs 1000/- as payment.
Please help to rectify this Rule.

  • Excess Inventory/Scheduled Receipts Report using ABAP Query.

    Hi All,
I want to create a ABAP query for Excess inventory & Scheduled receipts in a single report. I have identified tables, fields and some extra calculated fields in the report. Here are the following tables and fields.
    EKPO-MATNR      ( Material number)
    EKPO-WERKS     ( Plant)
    MAKT-MAKTX       (Material Discription)
    MARC-MAABC      ( ABC indicator)
    LFA1-NAME1        ( Supplier name)
    MBEW-STPRS      (Total value)
    EKET-EINDT         ( Item delivery date)
    RIBOF-AMOUNT
    S939-SPWOC or S032-SPWOC
Calculation fields : Value execess this week.extend value, over or under this week, onhand inventory for last week and this week.
Here my question is, when i was creating a infoset, how do i maintain relationship or joins from one table to another table...Is there any sequence for the above tables? Pl suggest. When i was adding all the tables in a infoset and try join the tables...it says illegal join...
    Pl suggest me.
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Gordon,
What i need to display is the remainder of the transaction that was received... if it is zero (0), i don't want to display it.
    i.e.
    transact # 100 inqty = 5
    transact # 200 outqty =1
    I'd like to display
    transact # 100     qty on hand = 4
right know the transaction # that i am displaying is transact # 200.
And also, it needs to be warehouse oriented. because i can have multiple warehose transactions.... and i am getting that wrong too.

  • Where did the possibility to join two smooth endpoints into one go?

I used get a dialog box when joining two overlapping endpoint, that is if they truly were on top of each other. I would get a dialog box when selecting two endpoints and pressing cmd+j where I could choose either smooth or corner.
Now in Illustrator CS6 I do not get any dialog box no matter what I do and it always joins the two endpoints as corner even thoug they both started out as smooth - that is had both their arms. Is there another way to do this now?

Well ... since I use "Average and join" all the time and very seldom only "Join" I just switched the shortcuts, so now Join has the 4-keys shortcut.
Actually I can't think of a time I needed the corner join. Most of the time I use Pen Tool, and join paths with that, and with corner joins I just remove any excess points, but with more difficult smooth path constructions I find I often need the smooth join.
I never figured why one can't select more than one arm like you can select more than one point ... it would make altering symetric paths symetrically so much easier.

  • Join two unrelated data sources

Is it possible to join two unrelated data sourcesin OWB, if yes, how?
The closest which comes to my mind is union (outer join) thru two proxy expressions with redundant column holders for reciprocal columns.
But I am thinking, above would lead to excessive wastage.
So is there a better way possible.
    Rgds,
    Deepak

    Deepak,
I think there are 2 different things you are trying to achieve:
    1) With a grand total, something along the lines of:
    select emp1.empno
    , emp1.ename
    , count(emp2.empno) count_empno
    from emp1
    , emp2
This query will retrieve a grant total, and because there is no relationship, you do not need a join condition. You do access the emp table twice.
    OWB would implement this like:
    select emp1.empno
    , emp1.ename
    , (select count(emp2.empno) from emp2) count_empno
    from emp1
The other thing you seem to like to implement is a join on the customer_id, or similar for the simplified example, say on deptno in the emp table:
    select emp1.empno
    , emp1.ename
    , sum(emp2.sal) dept_sal_sum
    from emp1
    , emp2
    where emp1.deptno = emp2.deptno
    group by emp1.empno
, emp1.ename -- this does not add anything, but...
Again, the way OWB would implement this (something similar):
    select emp1.empno
    , emp1.ename
    , (select sum(emp2.sal)
    from emp2
    where emp2.deptno = emp1.deptno
    ) dept_sal_sum
    from emp1
    group by emp1.empno
, emp1.ename -- this does not add anything, but...
Anyway, so the way you would create this is by using the same source multiple times, include the aggregates and put in the join conditions appropriately.
Hope this makes sense... and addresses the issue.
    Mark.

  • 3502i APs not joining controller

So basically my infrastructure consists of four 4402 WLCs running on 7.0.235.3. I'm trying to get new access points to join to the environment, but I am having difficulty doing so. All currently joined APs work fine and are operating well. I'm getting a red, green, off blink code which means it's trying to join, but never does. The other one I get a constantly blinking green but it never joins either. I've setup option 43 in DHCP, added cisco-capwap-controller entries in DNS thinking it was because those are missing, and still cannot get these two access points to join. Can anyone think why it would not be joining?
The access points and WLC are all on the Same VLAN by the way.

    Hello,
In a Cisco Unified Wireless network, the LAPs  must first discover and       join a WLC before they can service wireless clients.
Originally, the controllers only operated in Layer 2 mode. In Layer  2       mode, the LAPs are required to be on the same subnet as the management       interface and the Layer 3 mode AP-manager interface is not present on  the       controller. The LAPs communicate with the controller using Layer 2       encapsulation only (ethernet encapsulation) and do not Dynamic Host       Configuration Protocol (DHCP) an IP address.
When Layer 3 mode on the controller was developed, a new Layer 3       interface called AP-manager was introduced. In Layer 3 mode, the LAPs  would       DHCP an IP address first and then send their discovery request to the       management interface using IP addresses (Layer 3). This allowed the  LAPs to be       on a different subnet than the management interface of the controller.  Layer 3       mode is the dominate mode today. Some controllers and LAPs can only  perform       Layer 3 mode.
However, this presented a new problem: how did the LAPs find the       management IP address of the controller when it was on a different  subnet?
In Layer 2 mode, they were required to be on the same subnet. In  Layer       3 mode, the controller and LAP are essentially playing hide and seek  in the       network. If you do not tell the LAP where the controller is via DHCP  option 43,       DNS resolution of "Cisco-lwapp-controller@local_domain", or statically       configure it, the LAP does not know where in the network to find the  management       interface of the controller.
In addition to these methods, the LAP does automatically look on  the       local subnet for controllers with a 255.255.255.255 local broadcast.  Also, the       LAP remembers the management IP address of any controller it joins  across       reboots. Therefore, if you put the LAP first on the local subnet of  the       management interface, it will find the controller's management  interface and       remember the address. This is called priming. This does not help find  the       controller if you replace a LAP later on. Therefore, Cisco recommends  using the       DHCP option 43 or DNS methods.
When the LAPs discover the controller, they do not know if the       controller is in Layer 2 mode or Layer 3 mode. Therefore, the LAPs  always       connect to the management interface address of the controller first  with a       discovery request. The controller then tells the LAP which mode it is  in the       discovery reply. If the controller is in Layer 3 mode, the discovery  reply       contains the Layer 3 AP-manager IP address so the LAP can send a join  request       to the AP-manager interface next.
Note: By default both management and AP-manager interfaces are  left           untagged on their VLAN during configuration. In case these are tagged,  make           sure they are tagged to the same VLAN in order to properly receive  discovery           and join response from the WLC.
The LWAPP AP goes through this process on startup for Layer 3       mode:
The LAP boots and DHCPs an IP address if it was not previously           assigned a static IP address.
The LAP sends discovery requests to controllers through the various           discovery algorithms and builds a controller list. Essentially, the  LAP learns           as many management interface addresses for the controller list as  possible via:
DHCP option 43 (good for global companies where offices and             controllers are on different continents)
DNS entry for             cisco-capwap-controller (good for local             businesses - can also be used to find where brand new APs join)
Note: If you use CAPWAP, make sure that there is a DNS entry for                 cisco-capwap-controller.
Management IP addresses of controllers the LAP remembers             previously
A Layer 3 broadcast on the subnet
    Over the air provisioning
    Statically configured information
From this list, the easiest method to use for deployment is to  have           the LAPs on the same subnet as the management interface of the  controller and           allow the LAP’s Layer 3 broadcast to find the controller. This method  should be           used for companies that have a small network and do not own a local  DNS           server.
The next easiest method of deployment is to use a DNS entry with           DHCP. You can have multiple entries of the same DNS name. This allows  the LAP           to discover multiple controllers. This method should be used by  companies that           have all of their controllers in a single location and own a local DNS  server.           Or, if the company has multiple DNS suffixes and the controllers are  segregated           by suffix.
DHCP option 43 is used by large companies to localize the  information           via the DHCP. This method is used by large enterprises that have a  single DNS           suffix. For example, Cisco owns buildings in Europe, Australia, and  the United           States. In order to ensure that the LAPs only join controllers  locally, Cisco           cannot use a DNS entry and must use DHCP option 43 information to tell  the LAPs           what the management IP address of their local controller is.
Finally, static configuration is used for a network that does not           have a DHCP server. You can statically configure the information  necessary to           join a controller via the console port and the AP’s CLI. For  information on how           to statically configure controller information using the AP CLI, refer  to           Manually            Configuring Controller Information Using the Access Point CLI.
For a detailed explanation on the different discovery algorithms  that           LAPs use to find controllers, refer to           LAP            Registration with WLC.
For information on configuring DHCP option 43 on a DHCP server,  refer           to           DHCP            OPTION 43 for Lightweight Cisco Aironet Access Points Configuration           Example.
Send a discovery request to every controller on the list and wait  for           the controller's discovery reply which contains the system name,  AP-manager IP           addresses, the number of APs already attached to each AP-manager  interface, and           overall excess capacity for the controller.
Look at the controller list and send a join request to a controller           in this order (only if the AP received a discovery reply from it):
Primary Controller system name (previously configured on             LAP)
Secondary Controller system name (previously configured on             LAP)
Tertiary Controller system name (previously configured on             LAP)
Master controller (if the LAP has not been previously configured             with any Primary, Secondary, or Tertiary controller names. Used to  always know             which controller brand new LAPs join)
If none of the above are seen, load balance across controllers             using the excess capacity value in the discovery response.
If two controllers have the same excess capacity, then send the             join request to the first controller that responded to the discovery  request             with a discovery response. If a single controller has multiple  AP-managers on             multiple interfaces, choose the AP-manager interface with the least  number of             APs.
The controller will respond to all discovery requests without             checking certificates or AP credentials. However, join requests must  have a             valid certificate in order to get a join response from the  controller. If the             LAP does not receive a join response from its choice, the LAP will  try the next             controller in the list unless the controller is a configured  controller             (Primary/Secondary/Tertiary).
When it receives the join reply, the AP checks to make sure it has           the same image as that of the controller. If not, the AP downloads the  image           from the controller and reboots to load the new image and starts the  process           all over again from step 1.
If it has the same software image, it asks for the configuration  from           the controller and moves into the registered state on the controller.
After you download the configuration, the AP might reload again to           apply the new configuration. Therefore, an extra reload can occur and  is a           normal behavior.

  • 3 Table Joins -- Need a more efficient Query

I need a 3 table join but need to do it more efficiently than I am currently doing. The query is taking too long to execute (in excess of 20 mins. These are huge tables with 10 mil + records). Here is what the query looks like right now. I need 100 distinct acctnum from the below query with all the conditions as requirements.

    Hi,
Whenever you have a question, post CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements for a little sample data, and the results you want from that data.  Explain how you get those results from that data.
Simplify the problem, if possible.  If you need 100 distinct rows, post a problem where you only need, say, 3 distinct rows.  Just explain that you really need 100, and you'll get a solution that works for either 3 or 100.
Always say which version of Oracle you're using (e.g. 11.2.0.3.0).
    See the forum FAQ: https://forums.oracle.com/message/9362002
For tuning problems, also see https://forums.oracle.com/message/9362003
Are you sure the query you posted is even doing what you want?  You're cross-joining s to the other tables, producing all possible combinations of rows, and then picking 100 of those in no particular order (not even random order).  That's not necessarily wrong, but it certainly is suspicious.
If you're only interested in 100 rows, there's probably some way to write the query so that it picks 100 rows from the big tables first.

  • Excessive bandwidth error when trying to video chat with buddy

I have been unable to video chat with people on my buddylist...when I ask them to join or they ask me to join...my image comes up but soon returns an error box stating "unable to connect due to excessive bandwidth."
When I use menu item "Connection Doctor" it returns ERROR -22
    Any ideas ?
Does this have anything to do with OSX10.4.10 upgrade or Safari beta 3.0.2 (522.12) update?

    Hi
have you set the Quicktime streaming setting, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps(dont use automatic)
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to NONE.
    Restart iChat.

  • Mavericks takes excessive time to boot up

Since upgrading to Mavericks on my iMac, it has taken an excessive amount of time to boot up each time.  This does not happen on my MacBook Pro 13" Retina.  Once it is up and running, it seems to work ok, but the length of time to boot is easily 3 or more times slower than with OS X 10.8.
I would appreciate any help in resolving this problem.
