Excessive usage

I joined bt on The of June, after 2 days ,on The June I got an email stating that I had used 7.9 GB of my 10 GB monthly allowance.
I don't download Music/ photos or upload anything, get about 20 email's daily 1 Or 2 with small attachments.
I surf constantly  either on my pc or my I phone. I asked my son had he downloaded anything that I was unaware of and found out he had dowloaded a few standard Def movies. SO I thought ok thats what it has been.
I told him not to d/load any more so that I could track my usage. Today 3 days into July I get another e mail saying I have used another 7 GB of JUly's allocation. ?????????????? The only other thing that is used is x box live for about 5 hrs a day but I was told this did not use a lot . Any HELP PLEASE.
Al

I know its not much help to you if you are on a tight budget, but in this day and age with a lot of graphic orientated sites refreshing all the time 10Gb a month soon goes.
You already state that you surf the Internet "Constantly" and if you are using the X box Live online . There are possible updates to windows and anti virus programs etc to also take into account.  After that there is your sons use of the Internet to download a "Few" SD movies plus anything else he might have forgotton about.
My advice is really to Upgrade

  • Netflix - excess usage?

    Hi guys,
I have been liasing with BT regarding excess usage (pacakge limited to 20GB) on my account that i don't believe i am liable for.
To give you some context, I joined BT from Sky in March 2015. With Sky we had a 5GB package for many years which was more than enough however latterly we added on Netflix and then went to a Sky unlimited package.
Since joining BT from Sky, we have regularly used circa 20GB a month and incurred excess charges. The chap at BT today emailed me my usage for May, and it shows many times where we downloaded in excess of 1GB in a day and one day where we used in excess of 2GB!!!
I am absolutely sure we are not downloading or browsing this amount of data, I am at work and sleeping for 19 hours of the day and my wife is also working and looking after children (which seems to amount to lots of swimming, cafes and child activities) and is rarely in the house.
Our only noticeable usage is an hour browsing in the evening and perhaps watching a 1hr show on Netflix a few times. This leads me to think that despite us accessing Netflix through Youview app that the usage is being incorrectly recorded through the home hub. We already had our Netflix account prior to joining BT so technically didn't take it out via BT, I just wondered whether this is likely to make a difference? As far as i am aware, any netflix usage via youview should be included?
    Kevin

As you do not have a Netflix subscription via BT, then they would not be able to deduct your broadband usage from the broadband monitor.
The Netflix app is not unique to BT, and is present on all YouView boxes, including the BT Retail box which you can buy in the high street.
I would imagine thay you would have to cancel your existing Netflix account, and then add it to your BT account. Then it should not count against your usage.
That is the way I would expect it to work.

  • Excess usage ?????

We signed up for package that allowed us 10gb useage on broadband knowing that previously our useage had been not in excess of this amount.  Since signing up its been a catalogue of errors & it seems no one can (or wants) to help us. Initially Bt took order to take on calls & internet but only activated the internet part of the order.  I have spent since the change over chasing problems where facts are not adding up.
We are told out billing date is 1st of the month.
For past 4 months it states on our account emails sent to say reached 7gb warning on either the 30th or 31st of month yet still we get emails saying we used 12gb last month.
Because this has happened so many times we regularly log on to check the online useage meter and have sent several emails or phone calls to say that by the 5th/6th etc of the month the useage meter has not been reset at the 1st of the month as per billing date.
As this has become common place we actully purchased a dongle and once the 7gb warning email ccocmes in the home hub goes off & stays off while the dongle is used to avoid additional charges.
Latest emails recieved yesterday says used 12 gb last month yet email on 30/01 says 7gb used so we apparently used 5gb in 2 days - we dont streaam movies or play games online etc (online retail, social network & emails)
If i call I get put from department to department with neither tech, billing or enquiries taking responsibilities for the problem.
Are we alone in these problems with useage limits or is anyone else having similiar problems where they believe they are under useage limits but still getting billed as over the 10gb limit and has anyone else noticed problems with the online useage meter not being reset on billing day ????

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
Irrespective of billing date, the broadband usage is per calendar month from 1st, and reset then.
When you received the email on 30 or 31st, did you check the online usage meter to see what you had used ? I don't know how long after the 7GB threshold is reached that you receive the emails. and I believe it doesn't say when the figure was reached - is that the case ?
Another person I know gets the "you've exceeded your allowance" emails on about 9th of the month for the previous month.
If you check your online usage meter (see my shortcuts - link below - options 14d-14j), then it should only show the usage for February up until yesterday night.

  • I am having a data excess usage issue with my Jetpack although I did not use the VZW network at all.

Background: My home does not have access to landline internet and I am relying on a Verizon Jetpack device rather than satellite cable for internet access.  Within my JetPack wireless network I have several devices connected, iPADs, PC’s, printer, etc. (up to 5 devices can be connected with my system).  Recently, I had one device within my immediate wireless network that I needed to transfer data via FTP to another local device within my immediate network.  The receiving device FTP’d data from device (198.168.1.42) to local IP (address 192.168.1.2).  To understand the data path a Trace rout for this transfer is 198.168.1.42 (source) to 198.168.1.1 (Jetpack) to 192.168.1.2 (receiver).  Note that the VZW network ((cloud)/4G network) was NOT used in this transfer nor was any VZW bandwidth used for this transfer (of course less the typical overhead status/maintenance communications that happen regardless). Use of the VZW bandwidth would be something like downloading a movie from Netflix, (transferring data from a remote site, through the VZW network, into the Jetpack and to the target device).  I also understand if ones devices have auto SW updates that would also go against the usage as well.  I get that.  My understanding of my usage billing is based data transfer across the VZW network.
Now to the problem: To my surprise I was quite substantially charged for the “internal” direct transfer of this data although I didn’t use the VZW network at all.  This does not seem to be right, and doesn’t make much sense to me.  Usage is should be based on the VZW network not a local Wi-Fi.  In this case, Verizon actually gets free money from me without any use of or impact to the VZW network.  Basically this is a VERY expensive rental for the jetpack device, which I bought anyway.  Considering this, I am also charged each time I print locally.  Dive into this further, I am also interested in knowing what is the overhead (non-data) communications between the jetpack router and devices and how much does that add up to over time?
Once I realized I was getting socked in bandwidth, as a temp solution I found an old Wi-Fi router, created a separate Wi-Fi network off the Jetpack, but the billing damage was already done.  Switching each device back and forth to FTP and print is a hassle and there should be no reason the existing hardware couldn’t handle this and charges aligned with VSW usage. Is purposely intended by Verizon? Is this charging correct? And can I get some help with this?
Logically, usage should be based on VZW network usage not internal transfers.  All transfers between IP addresses 192.168 are by default internal.  Any data that needs to leave the internal network are translated in to the dynamic IP addresses established by the VZW network.  That should be very easily detected for usage. In the very least, this fact needs to be clearly identified and clarified to users of the Jetpack.  How would one use a local network and not get socked with usage charges?  Can one set up a Wi-Fi network with another router, hardwire directly from the router to the Jetpack so that only data to and from the VZW network is billed? I might be able to figure out how to have the jetpack powered on but disable the VZW connection, but I don’t want to experiment and find out that the internal transfers are being logged and the log sent after the fact anyway once I connect…. A reasonable solution should be that users be able to use the router functions of the Jetpack (since one has to buy the device anyway) and only be billed for VZW usage.
Your help in this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Outrageous bill and excessing usage

Are we signed up to play the role of "the rich and ignorant?"  Evidentlywe are, bc I have been getting outrageous bills and claims that I am using 20 g each month all of a sudden and there is no way.  Before the 4g (4th generation) service, my family had no problems doing what we wanted through our tablets or phones.  Now, we have to "starve" our enjoyment of the digital age and education time due to being charged these fees.  We see no difference that would validate Verizon's outrageous bill.  The service is no faster than it was and it actually drags like it s r struggles to load our pages.  So Verizon's answer is always to check to see if this is running in the background, etc.  NO....WE CHECKED EVERYTHING ALREADY.  EVERYTHING IS TURNED OFF LIKE WE HAVE A BASIC PHONE AND ITS STILL HAPPENING.  Why should we have to spend countless hours doing what verizon should've done before they pushed these phones and service in our faces.  It's Verizon's job to give their customers the best Problem-free service.  Not ours.  We have jobs.  The Times we have to spend on our devices is supposed to be for our enjoyment or whatever else we may choose to do with it.  Not working for verizon and receiving A bill for it.
Anyone care to fix this?  verizon perhaps.....

  • Can I stop AVG warning notices (excessive usage by Firefox) WITHOUT deactivating? (Thanks.)

Hello. Sorry I cannot give you the exact title/message -- it appears then disappears quickly.
Basically, it's a warning that Firefox is using excessive memory (..?). It is more of an annoyance than anything. How can I get AVG and Firefox to "play nice"? (;>) Thanks in advance for your help. ~IslandFox

You might want to contact AVG support and ask how to "tweak" or turn off the setting for that AVG feature.

  • Don't fall for excess usage upgrade

I was called by a service rep to warn me that I had exceeded my 450 monthly minute allowance and could upgrade to a 900 minute plan without paying an overage charge for the month.  She said there was no charge to upgrade, and I'd only be responsible for the additional $20.00 per month fee.   She also said I could change back any time I want, with no additional charge. When I got my bill, I not only got the $20.00 additional  fee but I had to pay a $60.00 monthly charge in in advance.  When I called I was informed I'd have to pay a new 30 day monthly charge in advance every time I changed my plan.
So now I'm stuck with a plan that I will never use as many minutes as I have, and will have to pay again to revert to my old plan.
If you are called with advise to upgrade because you are using more minutes than your plan covers, tell them you won't fall for this scam and hang up.

You have been charged in advance since day one. It has always been that way. And you are free to go back to your old plan when ever you want....

  • Dual usage in plsql

    hi,
I have one query for which i am not getting much over net so raising here for help.
when we use SELECT FROM DUAL in PLSQL block , is it working like normal SQL query and does it goes every time to oracle server or it will be processed by PLSQL engine only.
also excessive usage of SELECT FROM DUAL can lead to ORA 600 in PLSQL procedure also or this issue is only limited to ORACLE FORMS.
    Thanks.

Edited by: KriC on Feb 28, 2013 7:03 AMYes, a select from dual in PL/SQL will involve a call to the sql engine. While the PL/SQL compiler does check for syntax and permissions at compile time, it does not "understand" the query it is checking so cannot optimize it out.
In most recent versions of PL/SQL there is very little need to select from dual as most uses of that idiom can be done through a simple assignement instead.
I have never heard that excessive use of select from dual can cause ORA-00600 errors in any environment, and certainly not in PL/SQL.

  • BT Broadband Usage Monitor

I'm trying to keep a daily check on my Broadband usage; reason I overshot my limit last month.
But looking at the BT BBand Monitor it seems that it is not updated consistently.
At times the amount used increases but the dates of usage do not change.
Has anybody else had a problem?
How can BT use this to penalise excess usage if the system is not exact?

OK, thanks, got in using "Admin", & have now changed Password !
Now please what am I looking for & where to give my Broadband usage?
Just looked at the BBand usage in my Account & the date has now updated
I have not used this router but I would expect to find the data usage as follows:
Follow the instructions given in the link I posted earlier as far as step 4 but click on Status instead of System at this point.
This should give a menu item of Broadband Connection (or similar) that should lead to "(a)dsl connection".
Amongst other things this should give Data Transferred (sent/received).
Note these figures and also the Uptime.
The Data Transferred figures will be rest to zero if the Uptime shows that your adsl connection has been reset.
If you do this on at least a daily basis you can check your daily usage by subtracting yesterday's reading from the current reading.  If you are getting strange readings you can check usage in real time by refreshing the window.

  • Broadband usage suddenly rocketed - can anyone hel...

    Hi All
We are on Infinity1 so have 40GB/month broadband usage.  We typically use 15GB per month.  The main use is internet surfing, EMail etc.  We have 2 iPhones and 1 iPad.
Just after Christmas, we got a second iPad and a smart TV.  We watched a single HD film on the TV through Amazon Prime (Red2 - think it's a couple of hours long).  I was off work for a week and did a lot of surfing, but we haven't downloaded any other TV and have spent less than 1 hour streaming YouTube.
We have now exceeded our 40GB limit and are incurring penalty charges.
I'm pretty annoyed as the second warning EMail ("you have reached 38GB") was received last night, and looking at the usage monitor online, we had already clocked up 41.69GB and that was a 24hours out of date anyway.
I don't see why we've used so much bandwidth.  We streamed a single HD movie (say this was 5GB) and maybe we are surfing for 30 mins per iPad in the morning, and 2 hours per iPad in the evening, with the phones downloading EMails etc through the day when we're home.  I did also have some windows updates download and install yesterday, but the damage had already been done so it won't be due to that.
Our contract is up for renewal in April so I don't want to switch to unlimited broadband right now as it will lock us in for another 12 months.  Where is our high usage coming from?  It doesn't make sense that we're on track to use 3x what we normally use and the only difference is a single streamed movie and one more iPad which is used for a small amount of surfing.
Can anyone help please?  Normal settings apply to the router and I'm happy the security is ok (ie the neighbours haven't hacked into our wifi!)
    Many thanks.

You can upgrade to unlimited at any time, you do not have to wait untill the end of your contract.. If you have gone over your allowance, and upgrade before the end of the month, any excess usage charges are waived.

  • Usage & customer services

    Morning,
Has anyone had any problems with excessive usage on their infinity broadband account & still tryingto reason with BT as to where it was used!
I have been ion infinity since Sept. '12 & have always stayed within my 40gb allowance... The 1st of Jan my allowance was reset to 0gb but between the 4th & 5th I had accumilated 14gb in two days!!
I raised a query with bt on Saturday 5th but as yet they have not replied...  since the 6th my usage has settled back to within around 1gb per day, I did have a live chat & speak with technical on Monday but all the lady said was watching a show on iplayer can cause high usage!... 14gb in two days!!!  nothing has been used out of the ordinary since Sept last year... so why these two days... I'm now on eggshells as we still have nearly two thirds of month to go & already I'm almost at half my usage... I've told the daughter not to use iplayer for the rest of the month... but these seems a little unfair as she's not used it any different in the past...
    Any help greatly appreciated...
    Cheers

I think there was a problem with the usage at the start of Jan and so the last couple of days of Dec went onto Jan. As long as you have'nt gone over your usage before then BT will not charge you extra for Jan. If you are using 1GB per day, that does show that your connection is being used for video or streaming and therefore you may want to look at the posibility of moving to the unlimited package to be on the safe side.

  • Strange readings on alternative log in for usage m...

Has anyone else using the alternative log in to view the broadband usage monitor when on unlimited usage noticed excessive usage displayed for the last 2 days...
Every thing this month was my normal usage until 18/11/14
18/11 I am supposed to have used 1.54 Gb in 1 day.
19/11 I am supposed to have used 3.03 Gb in 1 day.
I have used none of the high usage programmes  eg. iplayer, skype, or downloaded films. Just generally surfed the internet.
I know that I don't have to worry that I will be charged, but just thought it very odd..

My usage has been as expected and currently the month to date ties in exactly with what  Networx shows - earlier on in the month the usage monitor exceeded Networx by 1.5Gb on a total of 12Gb.  This indicates that the BT monitor isn't perfect despite official sources saying there are no problems with it.

  • Broadband Usage Problem - Need Proper Help From BT

    Hello,
A day ago I received a message from BT saying that I was approaching the usage limit for my BT broadband.  I am on Option 2 and normally use around 20GB in a month.  I checked my usage on My BT and found it was 38.64GB on 14/2.  I checked again this morning and found it was now 42.73GB for the 15/2.
I've tried calling BT, but have only got through to the BT help in India.  The first person I spoke to said it was because I was being charged for my BTVision usage and wouldn't accept that it was independent of my broadband.  I tried again, and the second person said the same, but upon my insistence checked with a colleague - and came back apologising, saying that the BTVision usage was separate and so I would not be charged at the end of the month.
I am scared to use my BT broadband and BTVision for fearing of incurring more charges.  I have not done anything that warrants high usage: I don't watch films or play games on-line.  I read news, check e-mails, do banking, view video clips - the usual everyday stuff.
Please can somebody from BT help me?  I am tired of trying to explain the situation and getting the same scripted answers.  The stock response from the BT staff seems to be for me to upgrade to an unlimited package, but I want to know why this is happening (is it a mistake on BT's part?  I did not use 4GB yesterday), how I can go back to my normal broadband usage, and whether I will be charged for this excessive usage.  In short: something is wrong, I have little control over the situation despite trying repeatedly to talk to someone from BT, and I would like some help.
    Thank you
    Paul

It seems a great shame BT's staff in India aren't aware of this problem - it would save a lot of time, telephone calls and worry.
This is extremely interesting. I've been having this problem since last summer and still am. I have a similar type of usage to you with browsing, emails etc. My work IT department are gobsmacked how my usage can be so high.
I've been through exactly the same where I've stopped using my BB service for fear of being charged and i have always suspected BT Vision usage was being included. During a 1 hour phone call with India and several times since I have been told it is "IMPOSSIBLE" for BT Vision usage to be included. This admission appears to prove otherwise !!

  • 10Gb monthly usage limit - install a third party m...

    Hi,
I was forced to change over to BT back in January after having been with Tiscali Unlimited for over 5 years (who were never great but were taken over by the dreaded TalkTalk - who promised they weren't going to increase subscription rates and then promptly increased subscription rates by almost 33%! unless you gave in to blackmail and gave them your phone calls as well - and I never respond well to that kind of strong arm bullying). (As I understand it there was a mass exodus away from TalkTalk)
My rural exchange is not unbundled, which means that every supplier but BT (and previously Tiscali), adds a whacking great surcharge because the service is "out of area".  When I wanted to get shut of Tiscali it turned into quite a long convoluted nightmare trying to find a reasonably priced ISP, I had to settle for the BT 10Gb a month thing, not ideal but, any port in a storm...
Anyway, I just received a warning email from BT saying I have used over 7Gb in May (?) and if I go over I'll be charged £1 per Gb.  The email is pretty vague, and when I go looking on the website for concrete information, I'm really struggling to find anything in the sprawling mess.  I couldn't find when my month starts and ends??, couldn't find anything relating to actual usage of BB, and am told by BT I should install a third party meter to keep track - that I may want to "try a few" before I settle on one.
Back in Jan, when I signed up to BT, I went to the BTYahoo site to set up some email addresses, in doing so I got a trojan attack which was picked up by my antivirus, then every time I visited BTYahoo I get reinfected.  It turned out that parts of this 'third party' site where I am forced to go to set up my emails, are poxed up with the GoogleRedirect virus, and once you're infected you're in real trouble and I had no end of problems after that.
To cut a long story short, I reported all this to BT who never even replied! A delightful welcome to BT Broadband.
I am always staggered by how lax the internet 'cess-pit' is and people are too trusting, if you download and install ANY .exe file onto your computer, you have no way of knowing what it's really up to, in other words it could easily be keeping track of your movements, sucking data out, putting data in, accessing files, etc etc., the possibilities are both easy and endless if you know what you're doing.  It is difficult enough trying to keep yourself secure on the net without being told by your ISP to download who knows what into your computer for something they should be providing as a matter of course as they are already collecting the figures???  It's ridiculous, if you are going to impose a usage limit then you should make the figures readily accessible by the user, there's no excuse.  How else is the customer expected to keep track and modify usage accordingly??
Can anyone tell me please - is it possible to access your usage figures? and if so how? - how do you find out when your 'usage' period begins and ends?  and exactly what is the period - is it 28 days? per calendar month?
Any concrete info gratefully received as I'm about ready to blow a gasket!

There has been a "system error" with Business Broadband Fibre customers. They received a 10Gb excess usage charges notification incorrectly. I posted about it here. I presume this didn't also happen to any residential fibre customers.
In addition as I mentioned elsewhere, a "residential" user has reported receiving the 100GB FUP email by error and was informed to just delete that email.
Hi Andy. I didn't know that the residential email was by error and was informed to just delete it
I 100% agree though- "Why don't the support people actually explain the cause ?"
Makes you wonder      if any customers get/got this email and wasn't told to just delete it and were then capped.
edit - corrected as I misread your last post

  • Hp dm4-2070us cpu usage & fans? help!

Lately I've been experiencing fan problems and how its really really noisy. I started to notice that the CPU Usage levels were fluctuating high and low. It would start out as 3% go to 9% then 30%, 40%, 70% and eventually 90% and the highest was 99% and then it would go back to 3% and start this process over again. When the CPU Usage goes higher the fans start to become louder. I had just booted my computer and opened firefox and had ONE window opened and the CPU Usage went up to 99% and the fans were INSANELY LOUD. I thought my laptop was going to blackout.
Is this happening to anyone else? Is there a solution to this? I don't do anything with my laptop like intense gaming or anything. I'm just a student that uses this laptop for word processing, internet browsing, music, instant messaging and a little photo editing. I don't see why my laptop would just suddenly go crazy like that. I just bought this like 2 months ago back in July..
    Help is much appreciated!!

I also had the 100% CPU usage error on my Pavillion dm4. I verified that no applications were causing the excessive usage and performed a virus scan on my computer while it was running in this state. The BIOS update obtained through HP Support Assistant seems to have fixed the problem. The CPU usage went down when the update was downloaded and installed (before the required system restart).
I just recently performed this BIOS update, so I will post again if I find that the problem resurfaces.
