Exchange Mail on Local LAN

I have a user that has an Exchange email account setup on his iPad (Wi-Fi only) and it works fine when he is away from the company. When he is connected to the companies Wi-Fi and is on the same local subnet as the Exchange server he can't connect to the server. He receives this error "Cannot Get Mail The connection to the server failed" Does anybody have any ideas, thanks?
Joe

My guess would be that your LAN's DNS server can't do internal routing. Many low-cost firewall/routers can't resolve a external domain name that point's back to itself. Assuming you have Outlook Web Access enabled, you can test this from a PC or Mac. In a browser, type in the domain name you used to configure the iPad.
For example, Outlook Web Access for my Exchange Server when I'm outside of the office is www.mycompany.com/owa. With my old router, if I typed that in while I was in the office, it would give me page not found. Typing in the local LAN IP address of the server rather than the domain name would work. (e.g.: 192.168.1.2/owa) Because www.mycompany.com pointed back to the LAN I was on, the routing failed. But of course, using the internal IP address wouldn't work when outside the office unless I also configured a VPN. (The VPN would connect the iPad to the "directly" to the internal LAN.)
I don't have any simple solution. What I did was replaced my router. There were other reasons I needed to replace the router, but one of the additional benefits was to get the internal routing.
So either get a different router or internal DNS server (or reconfigure the internal DNS server to route correctly, if possible. Or setup a VPN and configure the iPad to only use the internal IP address of the Exchange server.

I think there is not native rule for this, but you could try a transport rule which removes all attachments over a very small file size like 1KB.

  • Does anybody know how to archive Exchange mails on Mac OS 10.4.11?

I set up an archive mailbox for a Mac user using 'New Mailbox' with location 'On My Mac'. I then set up a rule to move items older that 180 days to this mailbox. The mails appeared to archive successfully, however her Exchange mailbox hasn't decreased in size.
I also tried right-clicking her inbox and selecting 'Erase deleted messages' but this didn't work either. This version of Mac OS (10.4.11) doesn't seem to have any 'Archive Mailbox' option. What should I do?

I am not sure if you are using IMAP or a restricted version of MAPI.
Make sure the server has not replicated your local archive or is linked to it in any way - you would not want it to be trashed when you eventually delete the messages from the server - perhaps keep a zipped copy elsewhere for safety.
If you are unable to find a more global 'remove deleted messages from server' in Preferences you could consider:
1 - web access to delete archived emails
2 - accessing the server with POP (at least temporarily) as POP has well understood methods of deleting from server. However:
1 - Make sure POP does not delete more than required
2 - POP only communicates with the server's Inbox so will only download or delete Inbox messages.
    A few details: http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-5-5/Connecting_POP_ And_IMAP_Clients_To_MS_Exchange_Server.html
In the longer term you could consider moving away from Exchange mail servers.

  • I have just setup an exchange mail account on my iphone and many of my settings have defaulted. Was this set by my business or by exchange?

I have just setup an exchange mail account on my iphone to acces smy business emails and many of my settings have defaulted. As an example, my passcode has defaulted to a minimum of 6 digits and my phone will erase all data after 10 failed attempts.  These are now greyed out and I cannot change them.
Is this a default set by Apple/Microsoft?
Or was this a setting enforced by my company, whose mail exchange I am accessing?

ditto what KT said...the passcode requirement enables the encryption of the local storage of your device and auditing of that policy ..it protects your organization AND you from potential data loss and a  mandatory reporting obligation..imagine how miserable it would be to see the name of your organization on the front page of your local newspaper with a story about data loss....every IT and risk management department's worst nightmare

  • How i implement sending a mail on local system also i want to see these mail as a receiver

Plz any one tell me ,
how can i implement sending a mail on local system also i
want to see these mail as a receiver.
    any suggestion appreciated.

Do some research on setting up an SMTP Mail Server. You need
one running somewhere on your box or on your network. Your box
would be 127.0.0.1 your network would be 10.x.x.xxx as given to you
by your network gurus. You may run into firewall issues also. Port
is typically 25. The SMTP server (the one that comes with IIS does)
often has settings to prohibit relays from external sources (CF
would be considered external). When I first got into this, I didn't
understand the concepts and tried to get my own IIS supplied SMTP
server up and running. It never worked (even efter permitting
relays), most likely due to the Corporate Network and security
properties and Firewalls etc. When I finally figured all this out ,
I was able to ask the Network Guru's, "Do we have an SMTP server I
can access?". Turns out they had something built into or bolted
onto MS Outlook Exchange Server, they gave me the IP, and presto,
    everything worked as advertised.

  • Running lync on local lan ?

can lync server be run on local lan only ? for example a LAN in a remote location where there is no internet ? however the size of LAN is large with lots of client spread over a distant area.
Also is Lync server bundled in Exchange Server 2013 ?
sorry i am new to this.
    regards
    Faisal

Agree with Anthony. yes, you can run lync on LAN but users will be able to connect with lync on LAN only cand can't connect from their home/outside.
On premises, Lync Server is not Bundle with Exchange Server 2013. you will need to buy it's licenses and cals.
if you host it online at cloud like office 365, Lync is bundle with Exchange 2013

When the tunnel was up in the routing table i view the remote lan on interface ipsec0 but also i view the local lan on  interface ipsec0
Is this configuration n ot supported?
    Thank best regards

    Hello, thank for answer.
The problem is that tha second lan is a routing static lan.
The ip address of ISA is 172.16.10.254/16 and the default_lan is 172.16.0.0/16
The second lan is 202.1.1.0/24 and it is a staic lan on another gateway.
When the site-to-site ipsec go up in routing table i see three route on interface ipsec0:
The remote lan, the default-lan (that is also on default interface. Behaviour?) and a subnet lan 172.16.10.0/24.
If i ping from a lan pc an ip of subnet 172.16.10.0/24, i see that the arp is equal at mac-address of ISA and i have a problem on the lan. It's normal?
    Best regards

  • Cisco ASA 5505 VPN help for local lan access.

    Hi all,
I am very new to Cisco systems. Recently I was tasked to enable local lan access for one of my server. The problem is this. I have this server with 2 interfaces. One interface to my FTP server(192.168.2.3) and the other to the Cisco ASA(192.168.1.1). Whenever I connect the server to Cisco Anyconnect VPN, I am unable to access the FTP server anymore.
I googled and found out that the problem is because the metric level is 1 for Ciscoanyconnect network interface which causes all traffic to go through the Cisco VPN Interface. Another problem is I can't change the metric of the Cisco VPN Interface as whenever I reconnect to the VPN, the metric resets back to 1 again. I tried to follow some guides to configure split tunnel but my traffic is still going through the VPN connection.
Anyone can tell me what I am missing here? Sorry I am very new to Cisco systems. Spent about 5 days troubleshooting and I feel I am getting it soon. Anyone can guide me what else I am supposed to do?
What I did> Configuration>> Remote access VPN>> Network Client Access>> Group Policies>> Advanced>> Split Tunneling>> Uncheck Inherit and select "Exclude Network List below.>> Uncheck Network List and select Manage, Add 192.168.2.0/24 to permit.
Really appreciate if anyone can tell me what else I can do to ensure my server has access the my FTP Server after connecting to the VPN.
    Thanks all!
    Wen Qi

    Hi,
    Try adding the following configuration
    policy-map global_policy
    class inspection_default
      inspect pptp
    And then try again.
I'm not 100% would you need to perhaps allow GRE through the firewall even after that. (Protocol 47)

I have exactly the same problem. When I make a change in Settings Exchange checks itself off implying that it is working, but I keep getting "Cannot Reach Server" message whenever I try to get email.
I have become very leery of accepting the new IOS upgrades. There is always a problem.

  • Transparent Tunneling and Local Lan Access via VPN Client

Remote users using Cisco VPN 4.2 connect successfully to a Cisco Pix 515 (ver. 6.3). The client is configured to allow Transparent Tunneling and Local Lan access, but once connected to the Pix, these two options are disabled. What configuration changes are required on the Pix to enable these options? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Mike Bowyer

    Hi Mike,
"Transparent Tunneling" and "Local Lan Access" are two different things. "Transparent Tunneling" is dealing with establishing an IPSec Tunnel even if a NAT device is between your client and the VPN-Headend-Device. "Local LAN Access" is dealing with access to devices in the LAN your VPN-Client-Device is connected to.
What do you mean exactly with "disabled once the connection is made" ?
You can check the local LAN Access by having a look at the Route-Table of the VPN-Client:
Right Click the yellow VPN-lock Icon in System-Tray while the VPN-Connection is active and select "Statistics ...". Have a look at the second register page "route details".
Are any local LAN routes displayed when your are connected ?
And - always remember two important restrictions the Online Help of the VPN-Client is mentioning:
1: This feature works only on one NIC card, the same NIC card as the tunnel.
2: While connected, you cannot print or browse the local LAN by name; when disconnected, you can print and browse by name.
    Carsten
PS: Removing Split Tunnel won't enable local LAN access as all traffic would be sent into the IPSec tunnel.

  • Exchange mail is marked "read" on iPhone and Exchange Mail

My boss asked me this morning if I had ever heard of this happening, and I have not.  He syncs his exchange mail with his iPhone.  He says that all of his mail appears on both devices marked as "read".  He is using Windows 7.  Has anyone had this problem?  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Add the actual body right after the line, you have created the Multipart object.
