Exchange Powershell, search for * not wildcard

Hi
I am trying to search for all mailboxes where the displayname contains the character *
Something like this.
Get-MailboxDatabase X | Get-Mailbox | where {$_.Displayname -contains '*'}
How do I do this, without Powershell thinks I am using a wildcard.
I have searched the internet, asked in forums - I still am not able to do this :-)

Steen

Hi Steen,
You can also use the following:
Get-Mailbox | Where{$_.displayname -match "\*"}

  • TREX search for notes

    Hi!
    I need to implement TREX search in the notes in a service ticket. I have done configuration steps like creating object connector and indexing. Can anyone guide me on how to proceed further to implement the search for notes in STs?

  • Refining the search for notes

    Hello,
    I normally get a lot of irrelevant notes, when I search for notes on service market place.
    Is it possible to make a detailed search for SAP Notes so that you get a list returning all notes in a service pack? The search criteria’s should be e.g. version of SAP and current service pack level.
    BR Ewing

    Click on the support package name, a window will pop up where you get all notes, that are contained in the SP.

  • Powershell search for a word and use the next word

    Here is the skinny.  I am trying to easily part through a event log of print jobs.  I export it to a CSV, grab only the events that pertain to what I need but I am stuck there.  Here is a sample of what I need help with.
    Microsoft Word - Test Print owned by user1 on computer1 was printed on printer1 through port
    Obviously document name, user1, computer1 and printer1 will be different in almost every case.  How do I parse through this and grab the username, computer and printer.  I was thinking search for "owned by", but how do I grab the name?
    Thanks for the help.

    ok now I am running into another issue.  Apparently the nuances of splitting by word seems to be los on me.
    when I do
    foreach ($job in $printjob) {        $test = $job.split("owned by")        echo $test}
    It will then split the line by each and ever "o", "w", "n", "e", "d", etc.....  I even tried $test = $job.split("'owned by'").  Any ideas?
    I feel like I should explain why this is happening.
    When you call $job.Split(), you're calling the .NET Split() method of the object System.String.
    If you look at the overloads of split (i.e., all the different ways you can call String.Split) - link here https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.string.split%28v=vs.110%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 -,
    you'll notice that the only way of calling String.Split() with a single parameter is if you pass a char[], an array of characters.
    Now, if you were coding in C# or VB.NET and you did... String.Split("owned by"), you'd get an error saying that it's expecting a char[] but you gave it a string.
    Powershell however is a bit 'smarter' and it tries to accommodate... It knows that the method expects a char[] and it knows you gave it a string, but it also knows how to convert it to a char[], so it does that, and that's what the method String.Split()
    receives.
    And what happens when the method String.Split() receives a char[]? It splits on every single character in that char[], as you've seen :)
    How to fix it? Well, there are two overloads that accept a string[], so you can use those. Now here's an interesting fact...
    In the same way that PowerShell converted a string to a char[] to accommodate the needs of the method you were calling, it can also convert a string into a string[], so you could do this:
    $job.Split("owned by", [System.StringSplitOptions]::None)
    You're passing it a string... and a [StringSplitOptions] object, so you expect it to call the third overload from the page I provided earlier.
    But if you run it... you still get the same stuff as before! What gives?
    Well, seeing as in this particular case there is an overload that receives char[] and another that receives string[] and you passed a string, which means PowerShell will always have to convert it into something anyway... You have no control
    over what PowerShell will decide to convert the string to. It could convert to char[] or to string[]. In this case, because the definition of the char[] method appears before the string[], that gets picked.
    So, finally... how to force PowerShell to pick the string[] overload? Well, don't give it a choice!
    $job.Split([string[]] "owned by", [System.StringSplitOptions]::None)
    So here I'm casting the string into a string[] before it gets passed to the method, so PowerShell does not need to perform any conversion itself and everything is right with the world.
    Hope this helps :)

  • Problems searching for not existing index entries

    Hi,
    we are creating a Java Fat Client Application with JDK 1.5.0_07 and compliance level 1.4. The GUI bases on the SWT libraries.
    The application ships with JavaHelp 2.0_02 (jh.jar).
    The helpset is dynamically merged.
    JavaHelp has problems e.g. during search for index entries, which does not exist. The JavaHelp Window does not react anymore. The rest of the application still works fine.
    Has someone encountered similar problems, found the reason and propably a solution?
    Thanks, Joerg.

    Hi Mikkel
    1) number attributes are only exposed in the complete search sample (search.jsp), not the others (usearch.jsp, tsearch.jsp, gsearch.jsp)
    2) Your understanding of the binary encoding is correct, except wk_queryexp package does not handle binary encoding. This is because that package
    is meant for 9.0.1 API, which only supports string attributes.
    In 9.0.2 and beyond, the encoding of number, date attributes is done in the query API layer in Java, using
    the Equals, GreaterThan, LessThan, Between query operators. Please take a look at search.jsp
    and see how they are used. The compile() method of the query operators will encode the values for you.
    Keep in mind that you should code your application to use the query API, as the encoding algorithm
    may change in the future.

    Hi, R C-R
    You wrote: "From this, I suspected the problem is that a raw 'match' search on the root level only searches at that level but does not continue into any subfolders it contains.I had suspected that too at one point, but look at the results from your previous attempt, where you wrote:"In another test, I used "Library" as the search word (kMDItemFSName == "Library"w). In this case, searching at the root level returned /Library, /System/Library, & ~/Library for each user account, as it should."Obviously, /System/Library and ~/Library are in subfolders of the root level.
    In your test, did you omit "Kind: Folders"? In running the following test with Find:
    Search location: Macintosh HD
    Kind: Folders
    Raw Query: kMDItemFSName == "Library"w
    I receive different results:
    - /System/Library is not returned — as it should not be — since it's a system folder.
    - What appears to be the Home > Library folder of other accounts on the Mac show up as hits for "Library" but without icons. This is interesting since they should not appear in search results since I don't have permission to access those folders. Using the Get Info contextual menu choice on these does not show the path.
    If I omit "Kind: Folders" from that search, i.e.
    Search location: Macintosh HD
    Raw Query: kMDItemFSName == "Library"w
    then /System/Library is returned in the search results, as expected, since the Raw Query is searching what is known as file system metadata, which is actually a search of the disk's directory, not the Spotlight metadata store. If you use Find where the only search criterion is a Raw Query against a kMDItemFS* attribute, i.e. a file system metadata attribute, the search is performed against the disk's directory: the Spotlight metadata store does not replicate data saved in the disk's directory.
    If you combine a Raw Query against a file system metadata attribute with one of the Spotlight criteria, e.g. "Kind: Folders", then the results are the intersection of the sets of results from "Kind: Folders" (performed against the metadata store, which excludes System folders by default) and the Raw Query (performed against the disk's directory).
    In my test where Find returned no hits at the root level, I was searching my PM G5's second internal hard drive for:
    Search location: my PM G5's second internal hard drive
    Kind: Folders
    Raw Query: kMDItemFSName == "Buick"w
    There are two folders that match should match this search:
    1965 Buick Riviera
    1997 Buick Riviera
    These folders are several levels down from the root level in the folder hierarchy. I'm Owner with Access of "Read & Write" on both.
    A Find at the root level, as above, does not find them: in fact, it returns no hits. If I change the search location to the folder that contains both these subfolders, they're found.
    I get the same anomalous results using mdfind:
    [PMG5:~] doc% mdfind -onlyin /Volumes/Our\ Work/ "(kMDItemFSName == 'Buick'w) && (kMDItemContentTypeTree == 'public.folder')"
    [PMG5:~] doc%
    The search returns to the Terminal prompt without output, meaning no hits. However:
    [PMG5:~] doc% mdfind -onlyin /Volumes/Our\ Work/Doc\'s\ Files "(kMDItemFSName == 'Buick'w) && (kMDItemContentTypeTree == 'public.folder')"
    /Volumes/Our Work/Doc's Files/Images/1965 Buick Riviera
    /Volumes/Our Work/Doc's Files/Documents/1997 Buick Riviera
    finds the two folders.
    Bottom line, there's a Spotlight bug here. I rebuilt the Spotlight metadata stores as well to rule out problems there. Just another of the many anomalies I've found in testing Spotlight: I've documented a slew of additional anomalies in the "Spotlight" chapter and related appendices of my book.
    Good luck!

  • Spotlight Search for "Not Flagged"

    I would like to create a smart mailbox that looks for all messages in a particular folder that are NOT flagged. There's no way for me to do this with the setup dialog. Is there syntax I can enter into the search box that would do this? If so, I could save the search and have what I need. Any help is appreciated!

    How about creating a Smart Mailbox that shows all flagged messages, and then create another that shows messages that are not in the flagged message smart mailbox?

  • Searching for notes/annotations

    I make annotations within Reader on my tablet (abdobe reader 10.4.2 ) and then want to spot the notes easily to facilitate editing when I get back to the master document on my PC.
    There's a "view comments > annotations" function in adobe reader X on my PC, but  I can't find a similar funtion on the tablet version of the software . . . and if I copy an annotated file back to my PC, the annotations drop out in the process.
    Is there anything I can do besides looking through all 400 pages of the document looking for the occasional annotations I made?

    Hi,
    We are aware of the issue and we have the "Comment List" feature present in our backlog. We can't commit on the timeline but we will try to provide the feature in the future.

  • Search for address or notes in contacts

    Dear BlackBerry users,
    did anybody find any way to search for notes and addresses in contacts, please? I.e., I want to filter contacts living in a certain city or street or having a certain text in the note. That is not possible using Z10STL100-2/10.2.1.2141.
    Thank you!
    Cheers,

    You are right. I asked Rogers to ask blackberry why the universal search Feature doesn't search in contact notes. BlackBerry 's answer was that they don't by design.
    And do they plan on fixing this problem. The answer from Rogers is no
    The answer is IPhone does the proper search.

  • Short dump "Time limit exceeded" when searching for Business Transactions

    Hello Experts,
    We migrated from SAP CRM 5.2 to SAP CRM 7.0. After migration, our business transaction search (quotation, sales order, service order, contract etc) ends with the short dump "Time limit exceeded" in class CL_CRM_REPORT_ACC_DYNAMIC, method DATABASE_ACCESS. The select query is triggered from line 5 of this method.
    Number of Records:
    CRMD_ORDERADM_H: 5,115,675
    CRMD_ORDER_INDEX: 74,615,914
    We have done these so far, but the performance is still either poor or times out.
    1. DB team checked the ORACLE parameters and confirmed they are fine. They also checked the health of indices in table CRMD_ORDER_INDEX and indices are healthy
    2. Created additional indices on CRMD_ORDERADM_H and CRMD_ORDER_INDEX. After the creation of indices, some of the searches(without any criteria) work. But it takes more than a minute to fetch 1 or 2 records
    3. An ST05 trace confirmed that the selection on CRMD_ORDER_INDEX takes the most time. It takes about 103 seconds to fetch 2 records (max hits + 1)
    4. If we specify search parameters, say for example a date or status, then again we get a short dump with the message "Time limit exceeded".
    5. Observed that only if a matching index is available for the WHERE clause, the results are returned (albeit slowly). In the absence of an index, we get the dump.
    6. Searched for notes and there are no notes that could help us.
    Any idea what is causing this issue and what we can do to resolve this?
    Regards,
    Bala

    Hi Michael,
    Thanks. Yes we considered the note 1527039. None of the three scenarios mentioned in the note helped us. But we ran CRM_INDEX_REBUILD to check if the table CRMD_ORDER_INDEX had a problem. That did not help us either.
    The business users told us that they mostly search using the date fields or Object ID. We did not have any problem with search by Object ID. So we created additional indices to support search using the date fields.
    Regards,
    Bala

  • Search for a reserved word?

    Can I make Oracle Text do a search for a reserved word?
    I've got users searching for 'not well' and 'forget me not', and although I've trapped that and wrapped the word in braces (so the searches are passed as ...contains(searchfield,'({not}) and well')>0, for example), the results show a lot of very healthy people and holes in the ground with water in them: only the 'well' bit is being recognised, it seems.
    Similarly, 'forget me not' is being searched as 'forget and me', with the 'not' bit seemingly being ignored.
    Can I get a 'not', when the first or last word in a search, to be searched for as that word?

    NOT is a stoplist word.
    Either get rid of the stoplist entirely, or create a custom stoplist that allows NOT as a token, and you should be good to go.

    I've added more detail about the error, this server is exactly how I initially installed it. This was a clean install not a migration so Exchange was a new installation. I have not applied any service packs as I did not want to confuse matters

    Hello,
    I am a new IT Manager at this company and need assistance big time. Their environment looks as follows:
    Server 1. Domain Controller Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) running active directory.
    Server 2. Email Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) running Exchange Server 2010 .
    * Note. No back ups to work with aside from whats mentioned below.
    DC had a virus infection causing a lot of issues on the shared network drives 2 days ago locking up all the files with a crypto ransom virus. Running Avast suppressed the infection. Had to recover the file shares which luckily had a back up.
    The issue is that the Exchange Server 2 post this lost connectivity with the AD Server 1. Exchange Server 2 when launching EMC could not launch the console stating the following:
    "No Exchange servers are available in any Active Directory sites. You can’t connect to remote
    Powershell on a computer that only has the Management Tools role installed."
    Shortly after I found that it is possible the EMC launcher was corrupt and needed to be reinstalled following another blog post. I deleted the exchange management console.msc  per instructions only to discover I couldnt relaunch it because there was
    no way how. So I copied another msc file that happened to be on the DC Server 1  back to Exchange Server 2 and got it to launch again.
    Another post said that it might be an issue with the Domain Account for the Computer, so to delete it in the AD Server 1 only to find that rejoining it from Exchange Server 2 using Computer>Properties> Chage Settings > Change is greyed out because
    it is using the Certificate Authority Service.
    I tried manually re-adding the computer in AD and modeling permissions after another server in group settings but no go. After this I was unable to login to the Exchange Server 2 with domain accounts but only local admin, receiving the following Alert:
    "The Trust Relationship between this workstation and primary domain failed."
    I tried running the Power Shell tools on Exchange Server 2 to rejoing and to reset passwords for domain accounts as noted in some other blogs but no luck as the Server 2 could not make the connection with Server1 or other errors it kept spitting out.
    I also during the investigation found the DNS settings were all altered on both the Server 1 and Server 2 which I luckily was able to change back to original because of inventorying it in the beginning when I started.
    I need help figuring out if I need to rejoin the Exchange Server 2 manually by disabling the Certificate Authority Service (or removing the CA as listed here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/fb23deab-0a12-410d-946c-517d5aea7fae/windows-server-2008-r2-with-certificate-authority-service-to-rejoin-domain?forum=winserversecurity
    and getting exchange server to launch again. (Mind you I am relatively fresh to server managing) Please help E-Mail has been down for a whole day now!
