Excluding a character from "Change to" box that is in "Find what" box in GREP search
Hello all! I am a first time poster but have been lurking around the forums for a few months. I'm trying to produce an InDesign document for a book I'm putting out, and there is a section where I have the following text:
| TAB |1.| TAB |Lorem ipsum dolor etc.
The text doesn't literally say tab, I jsut wanted to highlight that there is a tab of white-space on either side of the number for the line. This occurs numerous times in numerous chapters in the endnotes section. I want to remove the tabs so that the result is:
1. Lorem ipsum dolor etc
2. Lorem ipsum dolor etc
3. etc etc
I have identified that the way to find these sections is to use the GREP search function with \t\d+.\t. The + is there because the numbers go into the double digits in most chapters for the references. However, I do not want to remove the numbers, just the tabs. Is there any way to add an exclude feature to the "Change to" window of the search function? I've tried just leaving it as \d., but that literally changes the text to
\d. Lorem ipsum dolor etc
That's not good. I'm trying to avoid having to do all of this by hand, and of course by the time I get a resolution I'll probably have been better off doing it manually, but I'm looking toward the future and trying to ascertain the best way of streamlining such a process short of not having that kind of format in the first place when receiving the file from my employer

Just to affirm your assistance, this worked for me. I still don't understand the advanced search features perfectly, but I got the formatting fixed without having to sift through it manually. I found that replacing with "$2. " (minus the quotes) worked well. However, I noticed that searching for (\d). would turn up a digit followed by ANY kind of punctuation, not just a period. I assume therefore that . must mean something different in GREP than I'm thinking it does. I just wanted to find any digit before a full-stop. At any rate, that is something I can find a table of GREP search terms for. I didn't understand the $2 thing until I monkeyed with it. I'm typing now for future generations of newbies that might stumble upon my post. The $2 ignores the second character in your "Find what" field. So for example, if instead you had two tabs then a digit then a tab, you could search:
Find what: (^\t)(\t)(\d)(\t)
Change to: $3.
This would take any occurrence of two tabs, a number, and a tab and replace with a period, ignoring and therefore not changing at all the number. The $3 is saying "ignore the third search term", in this case, the \d.
A better approach would be to use +. This means "any time you see one or more occurrences of the searched-for character". This would look something like:
Find what: (^\t+)(\d+)(\t+)
Change to: $2.
Here you are saying "Any time you see one or more tabs followed by one or more numbers and then followed by one or more tabs, ignore the digit, delete the tabs before and after, and add a full stop after the number. This is a very powerful search feature, once you understand what you're doing anyway. Hope that is helpful to someone at some point.

A possible cause of this error is that Firefox is set to run as Administrator.

Check to be sure that you don't have something that never totally downloaded - look in iTunes and in iBooks as well - not only in the app Store. A stalled or incomplete download in one of the stores can cause problems with downloads in the other stores.
You can try to reset your iTunes account by signing out of the account and then signing back in. Restart the iPad in between signing out and signing in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID-tap the ID and sign out. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in. -
What is the script for creating a word count text box that references a specific text box?
I am working in Adobe LiveCycle Designer.
I am trying to create an auto populated word count box that provides the word count for a given text box. For background, it'll be used on a form for blog posts and the posts needs to be specified word lengths but will probably be edited in form as it is passed around a committee.
I found this script: var wordCnt = new Array();var str = this.rawValue;wordCnt = str.split(" ");xfa.resolveNode("wordcount").rawValue = "There are " + wordCnt.length + " words."; and created a textbox named wordcount but when I use it I get an error stating unfound Array.

My title says it all. Instantly after downloading OS 7 on my iphone 4, I ended up with more than 1700 unread mail in my hotmail account. These same numbers do not show up in any of my other mail accounts, just hotmail. Is this a worm or bug? Anyone else have the same problem? I can't find these unread messages. I downloaded OS7 for my ipad and do not get the same backlog of unread messages. Help please.

When the window opens to ask if I want to save or not comes up it does so for WORD documents just fine, however, for PDF documents it never asks (it used to). Now it just automatically saves them without asking. I need this changed. I went into applications and changed the setting to always ask but it still is just saving, them no window pops up asking what I want firefox to do with the file like it does with a WORD document. IF I cannot get this resolved I will not be able to continue using firefox. I teach and I have students submitting articles etc in pdf format, I cannot constantly save all pdf files. I just want to open them, review them and then move on. There must be a way to change this so that the window asking what I want firfox to do with the pdf files opens.

Why can't I change the position of the 'Top Collections' feature box?
In Public Site Manager I can select or de-select and change the position (ordering) of all the feature boxes on my provider page except for 'Top Collections'. As a result of this 'Top Collections' remains fixed at the bottom of the page. I'd like to move it to the top of the page so it's the first feature box that users see. What gives?

I can move the 'Top Downloads' box but not the 'Top Collections' box.
I don't use the What's New feature box so unfortunately I can't comment on that. In regards to the ordering in custom feature boxes I think it's no longer possible order the items. Or rather you can order the icons in Public Site Manager but in iTunes it orders them automatically by 'Most Popular', 'Name' or 'Release Date', with Most Popular being the default option. I do have my doubts, however, about the reliability of the 'Most Popular' ordering. I know for a fact that there are many collections / downloads on my iTunes U site which are way more popular than those that iTunes deems to be the most popular.

GREP - search for anything except one character
Trying to figure out if I can say this in GREP or not....
I want to search for any character that's in a Superscript character style except for registration-mark symbols. Is there a way to exclude one character from a search?
Thanks, PhyllisAbsolutely. Remember the '^' character that indicates 'start of paragraph'? Well ... apparently whoever devised GREP ran out of useful characters, because it's used again in the "exclude" group. It works like this:
[0-9fuzzy]
looks for a single character out of the set '0' to '9' (inclusive), 'f', 'u', 'z', or 'y'. Throwing in the hat reverses the query:
[^0-9fuzzy]
looks for any old single character except those in the set.
The Registered mark has a shortcut of its own in the regular Find -- ^r -- so presumably it's "~r" in GREP mode. If not, copy-and-paste one from your text. So your GREP search should be (with Superscript formatting)
[^~r]
This marks only the next non-registered character; to find longer strings you can safely use
[^~r]+
-- which translates into "any string in superscript, one character or longer, and not containing the Registered mark". Yes, the short version is a bit easier to type. -
Have changed my apple Id to a new email address. its all working fine on my PC and also on come up with the new ID on my icloud page on my iphone but when i try to buy something from itunes etc on my phone, the log in box still contains the old id.

It doesn't sound like you "changed" your Apple ID, sounds like you created a new one. Bad idea. All content bought with an Apple ID is forever tied to that ID. The ID that bought the content is the only ID that can update the content. Apple does not merge IDs not does Apple transfer content from one ID to another. -
Suddenly I can no longer email photos directly via iphoto mail. The box comes up that says "server does not recognize username or password". I used to be able to re-size my photos before sending so that they jpeg or pixels were larger for publishing in newspapers or magazines, but I can no longer do that. Apple tech support told me to change my iphoto "preferences" to using regular email to send. But that does not allow me to re-size. Is anyone else having this problem? I don't know if there was an update that caused this or what? Please help.
The box comes up that says "server does not recognize username or password".
That error message usually will pop up, when there is a conflict between the "From" setting for the mail account you are sending from and the selected outgoing mail server. Probably the outgoing Mail server is receiving a user name and password it does not understand. When the mail returns unsent, do you see the "Try again" panel with the option to select a different outgoing mail server?
If you do not see this panel, change the Mail "Preferences > General" to "If Outgoing server is unavailable: Show a list of alternate servers". This way, you will know, which server Mail is trying to send from.
Have you tried to set "From" pop-up menu to one of your other email addresses? If that works, change your settings in Mail to always send from this address. You can set this option in the Mail "Preferences > Composing: Send New Messages from". I have my "Send New Messages from" set to "iCloud". That is working best for me with iPhoto. -

My apple account was in my partners name , I have now changed it to my name .
The problem is my icloud email still shows up his name at the beginning of my email address. eg Jo Blogg ( [email protected] ) .
When I open up Icloud in browser it shows in the top right my correct name , but when I go into Account settings on Mac in the Mail it shows up my
partners name as the Full Name associated with the account . It doesn't give you the option of changing that name though.
I hope I have explained this properly and someone can help ?

LizzeeeHey There I didn't need to change it as it shows my correct name in my icloud account. The problem is on my Mac where it still shows my Full name as my partners name.
For eg. if I send an email from "Mail" on mac and I use my icloud account then the name that shows up is my partners name when the email is received. If I send an email from the Icloud Mail box that I log into on my browser then the name that shows up when the email is received is my name which is correct.
When I go into preferences in "Mail" on my Mac to change my name, the name is ghosted out and doesn't allow me to change it ! ? It is here that it still show my partners name ? -
How do I stop Yahoo mail's popup dialog box from changing the tab focus?

When I have a tab opened to Yahoo mail and I open a Yahoo email on my other computer or Blackberry, there's a time delay and at some point, Yahoo shifts my browser focus to display a pop-up dialog box that says "You have been disconnected from chat because you have signed into Yahoo! Messenger from another computer." I can't even switch back to the tab I was on without dismissing the popup.
I'd love it if I could turn off the pop-up, - don't care about the disconnection - but in the meantime, is there some way to prevent Yahoo from changing my tab focus?

You will need to navigate to the following folder.
/Users/yourusername/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
and backup the following file... MessageRules.plist
Open the file in BBedit to confirm your rules are infact inside that particular plist file as Mail will also create backups occasionally.
Once you reinstall, do a compare/replace with the newly created MessageRules.plist and you should be able to bring your "old" rules into your fresh install.
as for mailboxes, those are contained within this folder
/Users/yourusername/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes
and it will be up to you to backup those files and File/Import Mailboxes them into the new install. -
DWCS6: homepage with Log in box that changes
Hello everyone, sorry if my questions are stupid, but i'm sort of new about PHP/mysql, i've just learnt how to use databases and so.
I've checked on google and i couldn't find an answer. I checked on the forum here and i couldn't find what i needed. I'm talking about this:
I'd like to create a Homepage with the usual "Log in" box. And no problems here. Now, after a user logs in,that login box has to "disappear" and be replaced by another box, with "Welcome, UserName!" without the fields of the log in box. To explain better:
Before --> box with " Username field, Password field, Log in button | Register button | Forgot your password?"
After the log in --> box with "Welcome username! | Your control panel | Log out button"
1) How can i change that box to show something before the login and something else after? I have to redirect the user to an equal page but with a different box (like page1 with login box and page2 with the logged in user box)?
2) How can i keep the name of the user in the other pages too? something like "xxx.php?IDuser=<etc etc>" in the links with the recordset of the pages on the IDUser filter (when IDUser is = to the parameter from the URL)?
3) And about the control panel, i have to use IDUser so that user can see his/her data (to check, modify, change, etc)?

Where do I find the printer dialog box to change the setting that asks me to save a file before printing
Hi Sara,
The problem is every time I try to copy a page from a website or attachment sent to me or anything that I don't create, the dialog box says I have to save it before I can print -- there are no other options on the dialog box. Very frustrating -- one of the girls in my office is having the same problem and we can't find a way around it.

I am using a work laptop and have the same problem. When I try to change the "configure proxy", they only available option is "use this proxy server for all protocols". Could it be that my system administrator blocked me from changing it since they don't want us to use Firefox.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")
