Excluding Header Column from sort
Hi,
I am working with a simple league table for sports.
I want to sort the league table descending by "Points" but I don't want the header column (which contains numbers 1 ... 32 for position) to be sorted.
I want the header column to remain as set but the other part of the spreadsheet to sort.
I can't seem to find a way to do this.
Thanks,
Matt
Matt,
You aren't allowed to sort some columns and not others because this breaks the relationships between fields in the sorted records. There are two ways to treat this that come quickly to mind, and there may be others.
First, you could have your header column be actually in another Table located just to the left of your main table. That way it wouldn't be included in the sort.
Another way would be to make your position count to be generated by a formula, such as =ROW(). If you have a Header Row with titles in it and your count begins on row 2, you could program =ROW()-1

How to Use COLUMN NOPRINT - need to exclude one column from Select *
Dear Friends,
I need to exclude one column from a SELECT * query. Everytime the column data type is BLOB, I dont' want it to be part of my SELECT. After googling I found some info about NOPRINT but it doesn't seem to be working in my case. May be I am using it incorreclty.
COLUMN FILE_DESC NOPRINT
SELECT * FROM FILES;
Where FILE_DESC is of BLOB datatype.Can I use it in my SELECT or it has to be used in Dynamic SQL? Is there any other option to achieve this?
Thanks in advance.Hi,
COLUMN FILE_DESC NOPRINT
affects all queries in the same SQL*Plus session (unless you cancel it with a COLUMN FILE_DESC PRINT command.) It doesn't matter if those queries are static or dynamic. As mentioned before, COLUMN is a SQL*Plus command. If you using a different front end, then it may have a different way to hide specific output columns.
Did you have a poroblem when you tried it? Post a complete test script that the people who want to help you can use to re-create the problem and test their ideas.

Interactive report - exclude a column from download
We have an interactive report that is filtered, sorted, etc by the user to get the exact set of data that they need to download.
We need to download only certain columns of the report.
We don't want the users to have to hide columns.
I'm looking for something like the "include in export" that can be specified for each column in a standard report.
I don't see a place to set that in an interactive report.
Is there a setting that I've missed?
If not, any suggestions for possible solutions would be appreciated.
thanksHi,
You can set column conditionally by request.
E.g. columns that you do not like export set condition PL/SQL function body returning a boolean
RETURN NVL(:REQUEST,'EMPTY') NOT IN('CSV','XLS','PDF','XML','RTF');I did example

Interactive report: Can I exclude a particular column from single row view?
Hi -- I posted on this yesterday (Possible to exclude interactive report column from single row display?
a bit anxious for suggestions, I guess!
I've added a column with edit-link functionality to my interactive report query (that is, the link
is not attached to the database data... it's an additional column and shows an icon). It's also
in addition to the default single row view link. (We need both.)
Unfortunately, the Edit link column shows up in the single row view. I've pared it down as much
as I can: the label is empty, and the null value shows as "-". But an extra row with "-" is pretty
ugly. Is there a way to always, completely exclude this column from the single row view?
I know I could put the edit link on a data column, but:
1) I want the link to always be to the left of the data (and the user can re-order columns)
2) when the user doesn't have edit privileges, the link will need to be disabled or just not
be displayed, and I think that would be a problem if the link were on the data. (true?)
Thanks,
CarolPlease disregard this thread, and the one it refers back to. I see a flaw in the design of what I was attempting to do! Creating the link for Editing as a column means the user could inadvertently not display it, or move it, or... any number of problematic scenarios.
Thanks,

How to exclude one or more rows of SQL report from sorting?
In my SQL report I want to exclude one row from sorting. This row must be permanently at the bottom of the report.
How to achieve this?
Regards,
AlHi Al,
Check out this thread: Sort within Break? I was looking to preserve a basic sort for break purposes, but the same solution should work for keeping one row at the bottom.
Let me know if you'd like more details.

Can we exclude column from well configured streaming
Hi Guys,
Is it possible to exclude some columns from a table level replication?If yes , how ??
Any help is highly appreciable.
Thanks,
NeelsHello,
Yes you can using rules based transformations to exclude columns from LCRS.
Depending on the version you can us Declarative Rule_Based Transformations as
per
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14229/strms_transfom.htm#STRMS106
or you could come up with an alternative if you are on an older version.
Thanks

How do you sort specific columns and freeze a header column?
I'm creating a list of people attending a workshop and would like the first column to be the number of people attending. The first column is the number and that row sorts with the rest, so then my numbers go 1, 9, 5, etc instead of remaining 1-20. Is there a different way for me to determing the number? I put 1 in cell A 2 and then for A 3 I give it a formula A1 + 1 to create the number sequence. I've tried making it a header column and freezing the column, but it still changes.
thanks,
NancyNancy,
You can search the discussions when you have a specific question, or you can just browse them from time to time to see what there is to be learned. Your question is a little like "How did you learn to be a good cook?" Most of the good home cooks never went to cooking school, but they have had lots of good coaching and lots of experience. Many of the helpers here have been using spreadsheets for so long that they don't remember when they learned a particular trick or method. And, we like to share, so keep the questions coming.
I keep the Formula Browser in view, and I study the examples for the functions I think I might want to use.

Select row and column from header in jtable
hello i have a problem to select row and column from header in jtable..
can somebody give me an idea on how to write the program on it.Hi Vicky Liu,
Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry for not clear question.
Answer for your question:
1. First value of Open is item fiels in Dataset2 and this value only for first month (january). But for other month Open value get from Close in previous month.
* I have 2 Dataset , Dataset1 is all data for show in my report. Dataset2 is only first Open for first month
2. the picture for detail of my report
Detail for Red number:
1. tb_Open -> tb_Close in previous month but first month from item field in Dataset2
espression =FormatNumber(Code.GetOpening(Fields!month.Value,First(Fields!open.Value, "Dataset2")))
2. tb_TOTAL1 group on item_part = 1
expression =FormatNumber(Sum(CDbl(Fields!budget.Value)))
3. tb_TOTAL2 group on item_part = 3 or item_part = 4
expression =FormatNumber(Sum(CDbl(Fields!budget.Value)) + ReportItems!tb_TOTAL1.Value )
4. tb_TOTAL3 group on item_part = 2
expression =FormatNumber(Sum(CDbl(Fields!budget.Value)) - ReportItems!tb_TOTAL2 .Value)
5. tb_Close -> calculate from tb_TOTAL3 - tb_Open
expression =FormatNumber(Code.GetClosing(ReportItems!tb_TOTAL3.Value,ReportItems!tb_Open.Value))
I want to calculate the value of tb_Open and tb_Close. I try to use custom code for calculate them. tb_close is correct but tb_Open is not correct that show value = 0 .
My custom code:
Dim Shared prev_close As Double
Dim Shared now_close As Double
Dim Shared now_open As Double
Public Function GetClosing(TOTAL3 as Double,NowOpening as Double)
now_close = TOTAL3 + NowOpening
prev_close = now_close
Return now_close
End Function
Public Function GetOpening(Month as String,NowOpen as Double)
If Month = "1" Then
now_open = NowOpen
Else
now_open = prev_close
End If
Return now_open
End Function
Thanks alot for your help!

Getting Sort parameters(order,columns) from DatabaseFilter.
Hi all,
Could anyone guide me on how to get the Columns that are being selected for sorting
and the sorting order itself from the DatabaseFilter. We have our own class which
takes in the column names and sort order and generates the SQL(similar to the
DataBaseFilter). Therefore, I need to get the selected columns from DataBase Filter.
I have tried :
//sort..first get sortFilterService
sortFilterService = SortFilterService.getInstance(getRequest());
//get associated sort filter
DatabaseFilter uiFilter=sortFilterService.getDatabaseFilter(getGridName());
//get SQL params..
String sortClauseFromUI=uiFilter.getOrderByClause().getSQL();
SQLParameter[] params=uiFilter.getOrderByClause().getParameters();
Whenever i try this, the params[] is always empty..but the String sortClauseFromUI
contains "ORDER BY "COLUMN1"..."COLUMN2"...DESC" etc. Could anyone shed some light?
Thanks.
Vik.It all depends on how much data you need to delete from the database.
If all you need is the id, and you generate that id into the checkboxes, it becomes fairly simple
String[] idsToDelete = request.getParameterValues("checkbox");
This will give you an array of the values of all the selected checkboxes. - ie a String[] of all the ids you need to delete.
String[] idsToDelete = request.getParameterValues("checkbox");
for(int i=0; i<idsToDelete.length; i++){
deleteRecord(Integer.parseInt(idsToDelete));
The hashtable method comes in useful when you need to call on the object itself to delete itself. That might not be necessary in this case.
Hope this helps,

Change columns from header to normal
I don't want the first column to be headers (dark grey).
Only way I found was to uses a pop-up in the inspector to reduce the number of header columns. But this in essence deletes from the left. So what if I already entered some data? I can copy and paste, but then I still have to set the font to non-bold.Correct. The conversion is available, but only in one direction—the leftmost regular column may be converted TO a header column, the topmost regular row may be converted TO a header row, to a maximum of five in each case.
For your situation (one header column that you want to replace with a regular column), you can do the whole table replacement described by Wayne, or you could replace only the single column:
Click on any cell in column B to select it. Press option-left arrow to Add a Column before column B.
Click on the Column A reference tab to Select the whole column. Copy.
Click on cell B1 (in the new column B).
Go Edit > Paste and Match Style.
Click on any cell in column A.
Go Table > Delete Column.
Works fine IF the table contains no formulas that referenced cells in column A. Any such formulas will now show a REF error, and will need to be reconstructed to correct the cell references to the new column A.
You can get past this issue by formatting any cells containing column A cll references as Text before deleting column A, then changing their format back to Automatic (or whatever setting you had previously) after column A is deleted.

How can I create a chart using data (from formulas) in my header columns?
Hello,
I'm wanting to create a chart using formula totals in my header column. When I attempt to click on the chart icon after selecting my header column, the chart button doesn't appear. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!Move your formulas in a non header column.
In the cell A2 of the table "aux", the formula is :
=IF(ISBLANK(main :: A2),"",main :: A2)
then I applied Fill Down.

GunjanHi
You can use the following statement
ls_fcat-col_pos = 01.
By using this you can fix your column position
or else to sort the column try like this
sort-spos = '10'.
SORT-FIELDNAME = 'Years'.
SORT-TABNAME = 'DATA_TAB2'.
sort-UP = 'X'.
sort-subtot = 'X'.
SORT-GROUP = '* '.
APPEND SORT. CLEAR SORT.
In the It_SOET internal table write:
IT_SORT-Group = 'X'.
