  • Process (.exe) run from java

    Hi all,
      I need to run a ".exe" from my .java file. I have developed a sample Swing GUI application that calls a ".exe" from my program. The application contains a dialog box. The dialog contains a text box and a button. When user will enter some number in the text box and hits the button a ".exe" will be called. That ".exe" in turn will perform a DB activity, fire some sql queries and insert some data into the database. The 32 bit ".exe" is built in Visual studio and developed by C++.
    The problem is that when I am entering some number and pressing the button, the ".exe" file is invoked and the process starts running, but I could not be able to see the data that is inserted into the database after the tested time of process run. I could see the data in table only when I quit my java swing application by closing the dialog.
    What I mean by tested time of process run is that, I have tested the ".exe" separately by running the same from a batch file. That is running fine and data is inserted into database like a charm. I want the same from java code.
    Programmatically what I did to run the .exe is as follows:
    String[] cmdArray = new String[3];
    cmdArray[0] = "testRun.exe";
    cmdArray[1] = "some args";
    cmdArray[2] = "some args";
    Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmdArray,null);
    It will be of great help if anybody can figure out where the actual problem is.
    My program is not even multithreaded. The whole thing is written inside the main thread itself as in normal case.
    Thanks in Advance.....

  • Please help How can i run Os commands thru Java programs

    Hey,
    I want to stop and restart the linux server thru java program.Is it possible to run the os commands thru java program.
    I had it thru Runtime.getRuntime().exec("*.exe");
    it only runs the exe files.How can run files other than exe files like .bat,com ans shell commands..Any body knows please help with the code..or mail to this address
    [email protected]
    thankyou,
    regards,
    j.mouli

    What about "start command.com /C execute.bat", or using the overload that takes a String[] as argument?
    What if you use the the full path of execute.bat?
    What error code do you get?
    And what comes th linux, I'm not sure... you'll need a shell interpreter there too, me thinks. (never had to run anything with runtime.exec on linux). Check the man pages if csh, bash, ksh, or what ever shell you like.

  • Running a java exe without JRE

    i have created an exe for a java application by using a C program...The c program invokes the DOS shell and runs the JAVA application...
    now how do i make this exe executable on a windows XP machine without JDK being installed...
    The second issue is that if i wrap my exe with the required JRE components the size becomes too large...how do i ship my java application as a single EXE runnable on all WINDOWS machines!!!!!!!!!!!

    Including the JRE with your app, if you zip it, will add about 14MB to your distribution. It's annoying but in the days of broadband, it's not so much of a problem. You could also check this:

  • Facing problem with running exe from my java code

    Hello,
    I have to run the exe from java code for which I m using Runtime and Process classes. The exe runs in the following way on command line
    C:/ myexe -j [now press enter]
    input sentence followed by ! [now press enter]
    And after this exe gives the output.
    So is there any way to achieve this programmatically in Java?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

    I m confused .. how can i pass input to the Process through InputStream? I think it will need OutputStream for that.
    Here is my code...
    import java.io.*;
    class CallToExe
    static BufferedReader br;
    public static void main(String[] args)
    File F = new File("C:/Chasen.exe");
    try
    if( F.exists())
         System.out.println("Exe exists");
         Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
         Process proc = rt.exec("C:/chasen.exe");
         br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in));
         int a = in.read();
         System.out.println(a);
         String res = br.readLine();
         System.out.println(res);
         while(!res.equals(null))
         System.out.println(res);
         res = br.readLine();
    proc.waitFor();
         proc.destroy();
    catch(NullPointerException npe)
         npe.printStackTrace();
    catch (Exception IOEx)
    IOEx.printStackTrace();
    But it doesnt work as my chasen.exe needs arguments from stdin.
    The way exe works is as follows.
    on command prompt>>
    C:/chasen.exe -j [ Need to press ENTER here]
    input statement . [ Need to press ENTER here too]
    Then output is displayed on command prompt which can be taken from InputStream of the process. But I m not able to properly run this exe itself with all the arguments frm Stdin

  • Force jar to run through java.exe not javaw.exe

    Hi,I am programming using eclipse 3.5.1 when i try to export my project as a single jar file it always runs through javaw.exe
    even if its a console app the problem is that sometimes i want it to run through java.exe without having to write the annoying batch file (java -jar "appname.jar") which will only probably run under windows, is there a way around this that would force the jar file to run automatically in console mode?

    You have one extension which you want to run two different ways. That of course isn't possible.
    You could write a wrapper that spawns a console via Runtime.exec. Then your console apps would be wrapped in that.

  • Invoking a registered executable in windows thru java ..

    Hi ,
    My requirement is that I need to invoke adobe (acroRd32.exe) thru JAVA passing some command line argument to it.
    I can invoke it using
         try
              Runtime runTime = Runtime.getRuntime();
              Process process = null;
              String command = "D:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Acrobat 5.0\\Reader\\AcroRd32.exe /p <filename>";
              process = runTime.exec(command);
         catch (Exception e)
              e.printStackTrace();
    but for this I need to know the exe path.
    The problem is that I don't want to read the registries to determine the path .. is there any way out for this?
    The Clue ..
    When I type a registered exe name in windows run command then it opens automatically. Can I invoke the same process thru java also?
    Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated ..
    TIA,
    -Arun

    Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process pro = null;
    try
      pro = r.exec("D:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Acrobat 5.0");
      pro.waitFor(); //Program waits until Adobe is terminated.
    catch(Exception ex)
      System.out.println("Could not execute Adobe");
    }Hope this helps.

  • How can I run a java-application on starting of Windows 2000

    How can I run a java-application without any user on starting of Windows 2000?
    For example, if the computer is restarted and nobody enter into it yet, my java-application should run anyway.
    How can I do that?

    Hi, you have to put it in a Windows service.
    To do this you have a program, Srvany.exe that allow to insert a .exe or .bat program in a Windows service.
    For example, i develop a program, TomcatGuardian and i put it in a service because i need to run it in a server without Administrator logged in.
    Regards,
    Ivan.
