Existing content area as a portlet programmatically?

Does anyone know how to expose existing content area as a portlet programmatically?
I have to write a script that would need to create and "expose" existing content areas as portlets.
Thanks in advance,
Alex.

Did you try refreshing your portlet repository? What release of Portal are you currently using? Which version of the PDK? On which platform?
Thanks,
Harry

  • Posting a content area as a portlet.

I am using a combination of content area portlets and PDK developed portlets. When I publish the folders in the content areas as a portlet they can sometimes be added to a page and sometimes cannot. All the time they show up on the provider list but I cannot understand why sometime I can add them and sometime I cannot add them to a page. All things are remaining the same.
Is there some checklist that I run against to see where I am going wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Cannot publish a folder in my content area as a portlet

    All,
Has anyone out there experienced or encountered the following problem depicted below. If yes, please let me know what you did or what steps/procedures you implemented to resolve this problem.
    1. Go to content area an click the "Edit Folder" link.
    2. Click the "Create Folder" link an select "container" as your folder type.
    3. Click the next button and enter your folder display name and internal name. Leave the Category combo box as is General).
    4. Click the finish button.
    5. Edit the new folder.
    6. Under the "Portlet Properties" section, set the "publish as portlet" checkbox.
    7. Click the "Apply" or "Ok" button.
When I click the "apply" or "Ok" button, I receive the following error message:
    Error: (WWS-00000)
Copyright) 2001, Oracle Corporation. All Rights Reserved
    Location: PORTAL30.wwv_main.main?p_language=us&p_cornerid=11470&p_edit=1&p_siteid=35&p_currcornerid=11470&p_calledfrom=1
I then click the "back" link on this error page that takes me back to the folder properties page. When I click the "apply" or "ok" button again, I am taken back to my content area page, which is the normal way for this process to work.
When I try adding a "URL" item to this folder, I get a blank page after hitting OK.
Next, I then try to add this folder as a portlet on my page. This folder portlet does not appear in portlet repository.
I subsequently go to the portlet repository and click the "refresh" link. I again encounter the following error message:
    Error: (WWS-00000)
Copyright) 2001, Oracle Corporation. All Rights Reserved
    Location: http://www.reeis.usda.gov/servlet/page?_pageid=52&_dad=portal30&_schema=PORTAL30&_type=site&_fsiteid=2&_fid=1&_fnavbarid=1&_fnavbarsiteid=2&_fedit=0&_fmode=2&_fdisplaymode=1&_fcalledfrom=1&_fdisplayurl=
Oracle support is currently working on this problem through metalink. But, if anyone out there has encountered this problem and had it resolved, can you please forward your solution to me.
    This is very urgent.

In the Catalog, select the folder for the report(s) you want to update in the Folders pane. It should then appear in the Tasks pane (bottom left) with some options.
Select 'Permissions' and make sure that 'Hidden' attribute is unchecked. That worked for me.
There's also a 'Show Hidden Items' check box at the top right of the Catalog area that should be checked to view the filters in the Catalog area (rather than when ediiting a report).

  • Blank content area using navbar portlet

    Hi, using portal 3.0.9.8.2 win2000
I have a content area where 2 groups have the same rights (view rights on sublevel folders) I have the navigation bar, consisting of the available categories, posted as portlet as well as a few subfolders.
both roles can view and navigate the folder portlets perfectly from their respective pages. the navbar is displayed for both groups as well.
But for one group when clicking on a category in the navbar it opens the content area, the navbar is displayed but the contentarea itself remains blank.
To check I created another navbar displaying a list of folders: same result.
I deleted the group from the administer tab, recreated it and set access rights all over again within the content area for that group: same result
please help: this is driving me nuts

Try, to use Item Type URL like /pls/portal30/portal30_DEMO.TASK_HOME.SHOW, it's not good but work.

  • Item Check out/in in content areas published as portlet

I have a content area I have published as a portlet. I have noticed that if I add an item (a file) and enable item check out, the icon to check out the file doesn't appear in the portlet. You have to open the content area in the content area navigation page to get the check out/in icon (and a few others.) Is there a way to do this inside the portlet?
    Thanks

This is the intended behaviour, to simplify the portlet interface. You'll notice, too, that you can't edit a checked-out item in the portlet.
This will all change in the 3.1 release of the product.

  • How to hide content area name in portlet?

When I add category portlet, it'll show content area name as
sub banner. I want to hide it. But I want to hide sub banner
only this portlet. What should I do? Please tell me.
    Thank you,
    Sirin

    Hi Sirin,
    Try this:
Go to Navigator -> 'Content Area' tab select 'Edit Root Folder'
click the 'Style' tab click the style properties link ->
'Folder Layout' tab click on 'sub folder' edit link, unmark
    display region banner check box.
You can do the same procedure when you edit your folder and
click 'Folder style' follow the above next steps
    Hope this meet your requirement

  • Exporting content areas/pages

    Help please!!
I have created content areas and pages on the Oracle's hosted portal demo site and need to export them to our own server.. Can anyone advise on how this process is done and if its possible? your help is appreciated...
    thanks

Hy, there is a white paper about export import.
But here comes how to do it:
in $ORACLE_HOME\portal30\admin\plsql\wwu, you can find the import export utilities:
    - contexp.cmd
    - pageexp.cmd
also the import utilities are here. Use all the parameters in the same order as they come in the example (just type in contexp when you are in the right directory). Do the same for pages. Use -security options if you want to keep the security and the same for contexp with his own -page option. This should be done if you changed the page of the content area. They make a security.dmp and a pobpage.dmp in the current directory ($ORACLE_HOME\portal30\admin\plsql\wwu). If you export 2 content area's don't forget that the -page & -security option will overwrite the pobpage.dmp and security.dmp file, so it will be better to do the export import immediatly after each other. Or copy the files after the export.
Very important is to check the portlets from the content area's if they exist. If you have a portlet provider in the content area and the portlet repository doesn't show that (refresh in the repository can help) then the corresponding portlets in pages will be deleted.
Search on Metalink for the Whitepaper Fill in : Oracle9iAS Portal Export/Import White Paper and you will find all the information.
    Good luck

  • Displaying a Content Area using custom code

    Hello list,
Is it possible to display the contents of
a content area as a custom portlet so that I
don't have to expose the content area as a
portlet and I can add custom formatting etc ?
    Any tips ?
    Sanjay

A number of SQL views are provided for retrieving information
from content areas. These views are documented in the PDK. For
    folders, use the view WWSBR_ALL_FOLDERS.

  • Default hyperlinks in Content Area

If I publish a content area as a portlet, is is always displayed with the name as hyperlink. Also, General is displayes as a hyperlink as well.
Is it possible to disable those hyperlinks? Also, is it possible to remove the customize link on portlets?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I wanted this also some time ago (NW04 SP14). At that time it was not possible without changing the standard renderer. I don't know of any new options that make it possible in newer versions.
Also be aware that the standard save-button on the edit-screen automatically closes the window. So you'll need to change that as well.
    Hope it helps.

  • Content Area migration

    Hi All
We have developed a portal on (9.0.1) version with some content area. Now we have to migrate it to Portal Release 2 (9.0.2) .Does the Release 2 support content area .If not, then can we use those content area somehow in Release 2.
    Regards
    Ashok K sharma

    Ashok,
In Release 2, content areas are replaced by page groups. When you upgrade to Release 2, your existing content areas will become page groups. The scripts to upgrade to Release 2 are not yet available, but there is a paper (Preparation for Upgrade to Oracle9iAS Portal Release 2) on Portal Center that details how to prepare for upgrade. Select Product Information, then Export/Import, Migration and Upgrade.

  • How to transfer content area from 3.0.9 to R2

    So

    So,
Please refer to the document Preparation for Upgrade to Oracle9iAS Portal Release 2. Upgrade scripts for migrating from Portal 3.0.9 to Release 2 are currently in development.

  • Accessing the Contact field on a Content Area Programmatically

I'm implementing some functionality to email the owner of a content area when a new document is submitted for
    approval.
I have not trouble accessing and manipulating the content areas, folders, regions and items programmatically,
but when I get to the simple bit of looking up the contact for a content area to send the email I can't find the contact
property in any view, all of my WWSBR_% views MAILTO_DISPLAY_NAME values are '0'.
Does anyone have any idea how to access this Contact field (from Edit Folder -> Optional Properties tab) from PL/SQL
(or Java for that matter) either through a view, table or API call?
    Regards,
    Rob Paterson

    Hi Robert,
    Ur statement states that
"I have no trouble accessing and manipulating the content areas, folders, regions and items programmatically"
Can u throw some light on the same by possibly sending some codes to achieve the same. Our requirements are as under:-
1)When the content area is added with various privileges to a particular users page he needs to click on edit in order to add Item/folder or manage the same.Is it possible to show(either by customizing or programatically) the same links by doing away with the edit link and directly displaying the privileges(i.e. add item, folder properties) when he logs in.
2)As the situation stands now when a document is uploaded for approval only Portal30 can approve the same though the relevant privileges have been provided for various users. The icon for approval doesnt appear when the content area is added as a portlet. The only way of approval seems to be for portal30 to log in and navigate to the particular content area and click on the same. The items awaiting approval appear with a approve icon wherein he can approve the same. But the same fail to appear when published as a portlet.
Our project is under tight schedule so any help would be a gr8 help.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Portlet could not be contacted error in content area

    hi everybody,
i've developed an application using Portal Content Area. And i am
    accessing the content Area
    like "http://<servername>/pls/portal30/url/folder/<Content area
    name>".
But when i access it shows "Error : Portlet could not be

Now i badly in need of avoiding that portlet error and directly
    go to content area.
    Pl. help me.
    thanks in advance
    regards,

I strongly recommend upgrading to the 3.0.9 release (iAS
1.0.2.2) with the 3.0.9.8.2 patch (this patch should be
available for NT/2000 this week). Also, the database should be
running 8.1.7.1 (or later), as explained in the iAS release
    notes.

  • Link to content area - portlet not available

I have a link to a content area in that I open from another application. Occassionally, I get a "portlet not available" message. Is this related to navigating directly to the document repository? It works most of the time.
    So 3 questions:
Is it acceptable to navigate directly to the content area? (My users then log on and store documents)
Am I getting the "portlet not available" message because of navigating to the content area this way?
Is there another reason I'm getting this message?
    Thank you

Unfortunately, the only way to do this would be to not show the sub-folder region and add URL items in another region that link to the folder page in question.
