Exp(sun8.1.6)/imp(nt9.0.1)

I have succesfully exported a 8.1.6 database that is on a Sun Solaris using the full=y and the user "system".
But now I want to import this dump to a 9.0.1 database (new) that is on Windows 2000; but I get several errors:
-- IMP-00017: following statement fail with Oracle error 1119:
-- ORA-00959: tablespace does not exist
It seems that the tablespaces that I am trying to import are to big.
How can I import the dump, with Oracle making the ajustments automatically in the size of the tablespace?

I don't think you should try a full import of a Ora8 dump on a Ora9 database, since the structure is different. You should import every user seperately.
You will have to create the tablespaces and users in the Ora9 database first.

    I have an export from UNIX of oracle 10.2.0.1.
    I have taken backup with EXP utility of oracle.
    I need to import that DUMP into windows with IMP command.
    Is that possible?
    Will it be successful?
    Thank,

    To open, view, unzip, decompress or uncompress a Gzip compressed archive file in Windows environment, a third party compression and decompression utiltiy or file archiver or data compression utility that supports Gzip archive file format is needed.
    You should unzip, then transwer it to Windows to use it

    I'm moving from 9.0.1 on hp-ux to 10g on redhat. I exported the database and i'm actually importing it on my new box (on a new database with a different name).

    2- I think the full export has nothing to do with the old DB name. Am i right?

    Some poster actually brought it up before, data dictionnary information that hosted by SYS will not be exported even it's full export. Because Oracle assume you will have the necessary information in new database.

    JFThere're different "DB name" per se, by "DB name" do you mean instance ID or db_name parameter.
    Any generally speaking, full export will not take the db_name with it.

    上記の10g(10.2 32bit)のexpファイルを11g(11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production)へimpすると「ORA-01659」「ORA-20000」「ORA-01658」などのエラーが発生します。

    Hi,
    >>because I exported dump from oracle10G
    Then you use the exp 10g version, right ? To move data DOWN a version(s), you need to export using that lower versions EXP tool and using IMP that lower version tool.
    Take a look at this below?
    Exporting Data From Release 10.2 and Importing Into Earlier Releases

  • 10g Host command imp.exe not working

    Hi,
    Just created a relatively simple form that uses host command.
    I create a sql script using text_io to create a new user.
    I then use host to run that script on the app server.
    All this works fine.
    Then i use host command to try and import into the db. This is when it does nothing.
    I have cut it down to bear bones and a button with the command:
    host('D:\oracle\database\BIN\imp.exe LOG=D:\test.log');This doesnt even create the log "test.log"
    If i copy and paste this into the run box on the app server the log is created?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    hi
    first try to import by using dos go to start,run and cmd something like this.
    c:\Imp user/pass@orcl file=c:\file.dmp log=c:\log_name.log full=y
    What is import/export and why does one need it?
    Oracle's export (exp) and import (imp) utilities are used to perform logical database backup and recovery. When exporting, database objects are dumped to a binary file which can then be imported into another Oracle database.
    These utilities can be used to move data between different machines, databases or schema. However, as they use a proprietary binary file format, they can only be used between Oracle databases. One cannot export data and expect to import it into a non-Oracle database.
    Various parameters are available to control what objects are exported or imported. To get a list of available parameters, run the exp or imp utilities with the help=yes parameter.
    The export/import utilities are commonly used to perform the following tasks:
    Backup and recovery (small databases only, say < +50GB, if bigger, use RMAN instead)
    Move data between Oracle databases on different platforms (for example from Solaris to Windows)
    Reorganization of data/ eliminate database fragmentation (export, drop and re-import tables)
    Upgrade databases from extremely old versions of Oracle (when in-place upgrades are not supported by the Database Upgrade Assistant any more)
    Detect database corruption. Ensure that all the data can be read
    Transporting tablespaces between databases
    Etc.
    From Oracle 10g, users can choose between using the old imp/exp utilities, or the newly introduced Datapump utilities, called expdp and impdp. These new utilities introduce much needed performance improvements, network based exports and imports, etc.
    NOTE: It is generally advised not to use exports as the only means of backing-up a database. Physical backup methods (for example, when you use RMAN) are normally much quicker and supports point in time based recovery (apply archivelogs after recovering a database). Also, exp/imp is not practical for large database environments.
    [edit] How does one use the import/export utilities?
    Look for the "imp" and "exp" executables in your $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory. One can run them interactively, using command line parameters, or using parameter files. Look at the imp/exp parameters before starting. These parameters can be listed by executing the following commands: "exp help=yes" or "imp help=yes".
    The following examples demonstrate how the imp/exp utilities can be used:
    exp scott/tiger file=emp.dmp log=emp.log tables=emp rows=yes indexes=no
    exp scott/tiger file=emp.dmp tables=(emp,dept)
    imp scott/tiger file=emp.dmp full=yes
    imp scott/tiger file=emp.dmp fromuser=scott touser=scott tables=dept
    Using a parameter file:
    exp userid=scott/tiger@orcl parfile=export.txt
    ... where export.txt contains:
    BUFFER=10000000
    FILE=account.dmp
    FULL=n
    OWNER=scott
    GRANTS=y
    COMPRESS=y
    NOTE: If you do not like command line utilities, you can import and export data with the "Schema Manager" GUI that ships with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
    [edit] Can one export a subset of a table?
    From Oracle 8i one can use the QUERY= export parameter to selectively unload a subset of the data from a table. You may need to escape special chars on the command line, for example: query=\"where deptno=10\". Look at these examples:
    exp scott/tiger tables=emp query="where deptno=10"
    exp scott/tiger file=abc.dmp tables=abc query=\"where sex=\'f\'\" rows=yes--------------------------
    You can also use DBMS_DATAPUMP.
    For example, you can start the export job from a PL/SQL package with the following PL/SQL code:
    declare
        handle  number;
    begin
        handle := dbms_datapump.open('EXPORT','SCHEMA');
        dbms_datapump.add_file(handle,'SCOTT3.DMP','DUMPDIR');
        dbms_datapump.metadata_filter(handle,'SCHEMA_EXPR','= ''SCOTT''');
        dbms_datapump.set_parallel(handle,4);
        dbms_datapump.start_job(handle);
        dbms_datapump.detach(handle);
    end;

  • At the time of reindex what should we take care ?

    Hi All,
    1. When we reindex the table, what precausion to be take care. If the table having partition, triggers - Should we take a backup of these ?
    2. How to compress/defragment the table ?
    Regards,
    Rajan B

    1 - reindex how? Do you mean drop/re-create index to reorganize it? You should probably use ALTER INDEX x REBUILD instead, but it is rarely necessary to rebuild Oracle indexes. You should make sure the target tablespace has ample free space to hold the resulting index plus if you rebuild in the existing tablespace that means it needs enough free space to hold two copies while the command runs.
    If you are changing the index to add or remove columns to support queries then you likely want to perform this action at a time when the table is not needed for update activity.
    2 - If this would be beneficial you could use either alter table move commands or export/truncate/import (see Utilities manual entries for expdp or exp and impdp or imp depending on Oracle version)

  • How to view contents in Long Raw datatype column

    Hi,

Data exported with datapump must be imported into another database with datapump. The same applies to the exp utility (must use imp to load into a database).
    If you're careful you should be able to write a binary file using utl_file.
    Regarding the long raw, is there any way you could convert to BLOBS? Longs and Long raws are notoriously hard to work with

    Hi Raj,
    You can try using commit=Y in the imp command.
    Your error messsage seems related to a rollback Issue,Since you have around 7mill rows good to use this flag.
    or
    Offline all the rollbacks.create one big rollback with slightly more than the size of your biggest table then start the import.
    The chances of file being corupt b'cos it's from a different platform are to my knowledge not fact.Dump files are generic.
    Good Luck.

  • Migrate Database- Export/Import

    Hi,
    I need to migrate an Oracle database 9i from Sun Solaris to Linux. The final target database version would be 11g.
    Since this is a 9i database, I see that we have only option of export and database. We have around 15 schemas.
    I have some queries related to it.
    1. If I perform a export with full=y rows=y, Does it export Sys, System Schema objects also?
    2. Can we perform export in Oracle 9i and use datapump import on targert 11g?
    3. What is the ebst approach - a) to perform schema by schema export or b) to perform a full database export with exp / file=xxx.dmp log=xxxx.log full=y?
    Since there is a database version different I dont want to touch sys, system schema objects.
    Appreciate your thoughts.
    Regards
    Cherrish Vaidiyan

    Hi,
    Let me try to answer some of these questions you queried for:
    1. If I perform a export with full=y rows=y, Does it export Sys, System Schema objects also?Export won't export sys objects. For example, there are tables in sys, like obj$ that contain information for other metadata objects, like scott.emp, etc. This is not exported becuase when scott.emp is exported, the data from obj$ is essentially exported that way. When the dumpfile is imported and scott.emp is recreated, the data in sys.obj$ will be restored through the create table statement. As far as the SYSTEM schema is concerned, some objects are exported and some are not. There are tables in system that contain information about queues, jobs, etc. These will probably not make any sense on the target system so those types of tables are excluded from the export job. Other objects make sense to export/import so those are done. This is all figured out in the internals of export/import. Thre are other schemas that are not exproted. Some that I can think of are DMSYS, ORDSYS, etc. This would be for the same reason as SYS.
    2. Can we perform export in Oracle 9i and use datapump import on targert 11g?No, the dumpfiles are formatted differently. If you use exp, then you must use imp. If you use expdp, then you must use impdp. You can do exp on 9i and imp on 11g with the dumfile that was created on 9i.
    3. What is the ebst approach - a) to perform schema by schema export or b) to perform a full database export with exp / file=xxx.dmp log=xxxx.log full=y?This is case by case decision. It depends on what you want. If you want the complete database moved, then I would personally think that a full=y is what you would want to do. If you just did schema exports, then you would never export the tablespaces. This would mean that you would have to create the tablespaces on the source system before you ran imp. There are other objects that are not exported when a schema level export is performed that are exproted when a full is performed. This information can be seen in the utilities guide. Look to see what is exported when in user/schema mode vs full/database mode.
    Since there is a database version different I dont want to touch sys, system schema objects.This is all done for you with the internal workings of exp/imp.

  • Export & Import data in Oracle (Urgent)

    I just wonder whether Oracle 8i has the 'Export & Import data' feature in their DBA Administration tool.
    Inside DBA Studio, I found a option to export/import data to text file, but we must connect to Oracle Management Server (OMS) first before we can use that feature. I found the same feature available in Oracle 7.3.3 in Oracle Data Manager.
    How to make sure that I have a OMS installed on my server? (I purchase a Oracle 8i Standard Edition, does it include OMS?)
    Can we export from a table (database A) to a table in database B? Or We can only do this thru. a dump file?

    With every installation of an Oracle DB you get the exp(ort) and imp(ort) utilities. You can use them to move data from one user to another.
    Run them from the dos-prompt like:
    exp parfile=db_out.par
    imp parfile=db_in.par
    with db_out.par=
    file=db.dmp
    log= db_out.log

    owner=???
    constraints=y
    direct=n
    buffer=0

  • Import failed to import all rows

    Hi,
    I have an export from oracle 8.1.7 and attempting to import a table into oracle 9.2.0.4. My table has 100,000 rows but only 30,000 rows are imported. No errors are given. The table does have one clob column.
    I'm using standard export (not direct).
    Does anyone have any hints on how I can resolved this problem.
    Thanks.

    296005, first you might want to go into your technet profile and turn show name on
    second, here are some ideas you can consider on:
    1- have you verified that the export file contains all 100K rows? It could be short if the export used a query= parameter or perhaps the source is a partitioned table and only a partition and not the table was exported.
    2- Count how many rows in the source have no associated CLOB entry. If the number comes up 30K then this would be a clue that something is wrong with the target CLOB table.
    3- Truncate the target table and rerun the imp using the log= parameter to make sure error messages are not being lost
    4- Verify the export was made using the 8.1.7 exp utility and the imp was run using the 9.2.0.4 utility
    If the export contains all 100K rows, and the CLOB table exists, and only 30K rows import without any errors being written to the log file on a re-attempt then you probably should open an iTAR with Oracle support.

  • Export and import from lower db version to upper version

    Hi
    I want to export the schema from database version 9.2.0.5.0 and import in to database version 9.2.0.8.0
    What parameters I have to consider ?

    Hi,
    No consideration required during exp/imp between same version such as 9i here.
    Their are different consideration in different versions as ..
    e.g.
    In order to export your 11g database and import it back to 9i, you will have to use the exp (export utility) and imp (import utility).
    Since you are going from a higher version back to a lower version, this is what you need to do
    1. Use the exp utility of the lower version (in your case, 9i) to export the 11g database
    2. Use the lower version imp utility (in your case, 9i) to import into the 9i database
    Imp/Exp utility version should always be similar to lower db version
