Expanding row over multiple columns

Hi,
I have a jtable with 5 columns.
The table holds sales data,
date,
time,
item,
size,
type
The columns have setMinWidth and setPreferredWidth invoked on them for formatting.
However I have a certain products that only has the date, time and item NOT the size and type.
The item name is very long and I want it to expand into the type and size column.
Whats the best way to do this?
thanks
Bobby

So you consider 'I want a blue button' and 'I want a red button' as different topics too? It's a about cell merging in a JTable.Well maybe you've got a solution in mind that solves both, but I don't. I for one would realize a rowspan by 'merging' the value within the table model, and using the renderer to make for the visual appeal. This approach would not work for colspan, obviously, unless you're using a rather dirty hack with the renderer invoking itself. So as I see it the more appropriate question from your side would be ''So you consider 'I want a blue button' and 'I want a round button' as different topics too?', to which I'd say yes.

  • Multipe rows to Multiple Columns - Oracle9i

    Hi
    I know there have been similar threads however I haven't found a suitable solution from them.
    I'm using Oracle 9i and trying to convert multiple rows to multiple columns.
    CREATE TABLE TEST_VALUES
    CUSTOMER_ID NUMBER(10),
    VAL VARCHAR2(100)
    INSERT INTO TEST_VALUES(CUSTOMER_ID,VAL)VALUES(10,'VAL1');
    INSERT INTO TEST_VALUES(CUSTOMER_ID,VAL)VALUES(10,'VAL2');
    INSERT INTO TEST_VALUES(CUSTOMER_ID,VAL)VALUES(20,'VAL1');
    INSERT INTO TEST_VALUES(CUSTOMER_ID,VAL)VALUES(30,'VAL3');
    INSERT INTO TEST_VALUES(CUSTOMER_ID,VAL)VALUES(30,'VAL4');
    INSERT INTO TEST_VALUES(CUSTOMER_ID,VAL)VALUES(40,'VAL5');
    INSERT INTO TEST_VALUES(CUSTOMER_ID,VAL)VALUES(40,'VAL6');
    COMMIT;
    SELECT * FROM TEST_VALUES
    CUSTOMER_ID     VAL
    10     VAL1
    10     VAL2
    20     VAL1
    30     VAL3
    30     VAL4
    40     VAL5
    40     VAL6
    I want one row per CUSTOMER_ID with two columns to store the values
    CUSTOMER_ID FIRST_VAL SECOND_VAL
    10 VAL1 VAL2
    20 VAL1 NULL
    30 VAL3 VAL4
    40 VAL5 VAL6
    There are only 6 possible 'VAL' values however there are a large number of CUSTOMER_id values. I tried DECODE as suggested elsewhere but that creates 6 columns. However I only want two output columns as there are no more than two values per customer.
    If I had 11g I would try pivot, can anyone please suggest any solutions?
    Many Thanks
    GB

    Thanks Bhushan, that was nearly what I was after. For CUSTOMER 20 it gave
    20 VAL1 VAL1
    so to make it
    20 VAL1 NULL
    I just changed your query slightly to
    select distinct
    customer_id,
    min(val) over (partition by (customer_id)) val1,
    CASE WHEN max(val) over (partition by (customer_id)) = min(val) over (partition by (customer_id)) THEN NULL
    ELSE max(val) over (partition by (customer_id)) END val2
    from test_values
    order by customer_id
    and that gives the correct results. Just checking the full data set now.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
    That's called Pivoting . The forum FAQ has a section on this subject: {message:id=9360005}
    I hope this answers your question.
    If not, post your best attempt, along with a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only), and also post the results you want from that data. (You did post the results you wanted, but they're very hard to read because they're not formatted. Use \ tags, as described in the forum FAQ, below.)
    Explain, using specific examples, how you get the results you want from the data given.
    Always say which version of Oracle you're using (e.g., 11.2.0.2.0).  This is always important, but especially so with pivots.
    See the forum FAQ {message:id=9360002}

  • Find MIN, MAX of multiple rows from multiple columns

    Hello,
    I need to figure out how to pull the MIN/MAX of multiple rows from multiple columns into one column. Even if some are NULL/blank.
    For Example: (C: Column, R: Row, N - NULL/Blank)
    C:____1____2____3____ 4____Max
    R:____20___22___13____4____*22*
    R:____N____N____32____14___*32*
    R:____N____12____N____N____*12*
    That is, it always gives a value for MIN/MAX unless there are NO values in all the rows of the columns.
    So if there is one value, it will select that for the MIN/MAX, as it's the smallest/biggest since there is nothing to compare it to.
    Here is my current code:
    CASE WHEN COLUMN 1 < COLUMN 2 THEN COLUMN 2 ELSE COLUMN 1 END

    Hi Thank you for your feedback, unfortunately, I just found out that EVALUATE Function is disabled in our environment for security reasons, so the only other way I've discovered is this:
    The problem is that none of the conditions in the case statement are met--so the column is set to null. You can add a WHEN statement (section 2 below) to catch the nulls. There are five cases to consider:
    Case 1: begin insp > bad order
    Case 2: begin insp < bad order
    Case 3: bad order only (begin insp is NULL)
    Case 4: begin insp only (bad order is NULL)
    Case 5: both begin insp is NULL and bad order is NULL
    1) If bgn-crm-insp-ob > report-bo-ob then bgn-crm-insp-ob
    (Case 1)
    CASE WHEN filter ("- Terminal Task Measures"."Task Reported DateTime (Local)" using "Task Detail"."Task Code" = 'bgn-crm-insp-ob') > filter ("- Terminal Task Measures"."Task Reported DateTime (Local)" using "Task Detail"."Task Code" = 'report-bo-ob') THEN filter ("- Terminal Task Measures"."Task Reported DateTime (Local)" using "Task Detail"."Task Code" = 'bgn-crm-insp-ob')
    2) If report-bo-ob is NULL then bgn-crm-insp-ob
    (Case 4, 5) for case 5, you will get NULL
    WHEN filter ("- Terminal Task Measures"."Task Reported DateTime (Local)" using "Task Detail"."Task Code" = 'report-bo-ob') IS NULL THEN filter ("- Terminal Task Measures"."Task Reported DateTime (Local)" using "Task Detail"."Task Code" = 'bgn-crm-insp-ob')
    3) Else report-bo-ob
    (Cases 2, 3)
    ELSE filter ("- Terminal Task Measures"."Task Reported DateTime (Local)" using "Task Detail"."Task Code" = 'report-bo-ob') END
    Hopefully this works, I'll give feedback if it does, or if you have any further suggestions please submit, again, THANK YOU SO MUCH ANYWAYS!

  • Master-detail list - how to spread over multiple columns

    I am using the master-detail functionality to create a image viewer.
    I have a long list of master thumbnails, and rather than having them go down the page in one column, I would like to make them spread over 2 or 3 columns before the detail column.
    (example of format I am trying to achieve - http://www.franbainbridgephotography.com.au/gallery.html (I dont mind whether master thumbnails are on right or left of detail photo))
    You can see my problem on http://www.wcwra.com/webpages/images.php
    Is this possible with the master-detail functionality?
    Thank you!

    The brilliant David Powers has fixed this for me on the main forum (vw2ureg was v close).  David's answer is :
    There is no way of making a single dataset repeat in multiple columns, because it's simply one element being repeated over and over.
    However, with a little out of the box thinking, you can do it quite easily with thumbnails. Instead of putting the master column repeat region in a block level element, use an inline element, <span>. Images are treated by browsers as inline elements, so this should work just fine. Change the following code from this:
    <div spry:region="dsPhotos" class="MasterContainer">
        <div class="MasterColumn" spry:repeat="dsPhotos" spry:setrow="dsPhotos"
        spry:hover="MasterColumnHover" spry:select="MasterColumnSelected">{Caption}</div>
    </div>
    to this:
    <div spry:region="dsPhotos" class="MasterContainer">
        <span class="MasterColumn" spry:repeat="dsPhotos" spry:setrow="dsPhotos"
        spry:hover="MasterColumnHover" spry:select="MasterColumnSelected">{Caption}</span>
    </div>
    In your CSS, set the width of the MasterColumn class to the width of your thumbnails, and the width of MasterContainer so that it's wide enough to accommodate two or more thumbnails. The thumbnails will flow into the column two or three abreast.

  • How to filter rows where multiple columns meet criteria, ignoring rows where only some columns meet criteria

    Hi All,
    Question: How do I filter rows out of a query where multiple columns are equal to a single question mark character?
    Background: I'm using SQL 2008 R2.  Furthermore, the part of my brain that helps me create less-than-simple queries hasn't been working for the last 4 days, apparently, and now I need help.
    We have about 4,000 rows in a table.  This data set was generated from an exported report, and many of the rows in the detail table were not actual data rows but were simply "header" rows.  For those table rows, most of the columns have
    a single question mark as the value.
    Some of the detail rows have one or more question mark values, too, so it's important that these rows don't get filtered out.
    When I include criteria like "WHERE col1 <> '?' AND col2 <> '?' AND col3 <> '?' AND col4 <> '?'", all rows with a question mark value for even a single one of those columns get filtered out.  How do I filter out rows
    where all columns 1-4 contain a question mark value?
    Thanks for your help,
    Eric

    I just tried to create to create a scenario for you. Please see ig you're looking for something like this.
    Create table test_Question_mark
    RecordID INT identity(1,1),
    Col1 varchar(10),
    Col2 varchar(10),
    Col3 varchar(10),
    Col4 varchar(10),
    insert into test_Question_mark (Col1, Col2, Col3, col4) values ('?','?','?','?')
    insert into test_Question_mark (Col1, Col2, Col3, col4) values ('?','??','?','?')
    insert into test_Question_mark (Col1, Col2, Col3, col4) values ('?','??','??','?')
    insert into test_Question_mark (Col1, Col2, Col3, col4) values ('??','??','??','??')
    insert into test_Question_mark (Col1, Col2, Col3, col4) values ('?','?','?','?')
    insert into test_Question_mark (Col1, Col2, Col3, col4) values ('??','test ??','??','??')
    insert into test_Question_mark (Col1, Col2, Col3, col4) values ('??','test ?','??','??')
    --drop table test_Questio_mark
    select * from test_Question_mark
    select * from test_Question_mark
    WHERE
    (CHARINDEX('?', Col1,1) > 0 AND CHARINDEX('?', Col1, CHARINDEX('?', Col1,1)+1) = 0) AND
    (CHARINDEX('?', Col2) > 0 AND CHARINDEX('?', Col2, CHARINDEX('?', Col2,1)+1) = 0) AND
    (CHARINDEX('?', Col3,1) > 0 AND CHARINDEX('?', Col3, CHARINDEX('?', Col3,1)+1) = 0) AND
    (CHARINDEX('?', Col4,1) > 0 AND CHARINDEX('?', Col4, CHARINDEX('?', Col4,1)+1) = 0)
    --drop table test_Questio_mark
    I hope above solution will help.
    Thanks!

  • How to transpose rows into multiple columns using pivot table

    I have 1 row containing 12 columns with value "JAN", "FEB", "MAR", "J-1","F-1","M-1","J-2","F-2","M-2","J-3","F-3","M-3"
    I want to display as
    JAN J-1 F-1 M-1
    FEB J-2 F-2 M-2
    MAR J-3 F-3 M-3
    How do I achieve the above?

    Today you have only 3 months JAN, FEB, MAR. Is it always the same number of columns. What if there are more months added to this row?
    Is your data really coming from relational source or some sort of text file?
    There is a better way to do this in narrative view using HTML if your requirement is just to show them in multiple rows and do some calculations.
    Go to Narrative View;
    In prefix, use <html> <table>
    In 'Narrative' text box add something like this
    <tr> <td> @1 </td> <td> @4 </td> <td> @7 </td> </tr>
    <tr> <td> @2 </td> <td> @5 </td> <td> @8 </td> </tr>
    <tr> <td> @3 </td> <td> @6 </td> <td> @9 </td> </tr>
    In Suffix, use </table> </html>
    You can also add simple calculations like sum etc at the very bottom of these rows as grand totals.

  • Counting Occurences over multiple columns

    I have searched the forums and found how to calculate the number of occurrences of a word in a single column.
    I am working on a sales project and I need to calculate the number of occurrences for a specific sales agent in multiple columns. Then a total of the sales next to the occurrences
    Column 1 will be the sales agent for a home buyer.
    Column 2 will be the sales agent for a home seller.
    I need to find out how many times a specific agent represents both buyers and sellers.
    Then I need a total of all the sales for each of the agents.
    I have very large tables with multiple categories for each sale.
    Yvan you seem to be the guru.
    Please help.
    All the best,
    Will

    Will,
    Jerry has given you a good solution in general terms but there are some ambiguities in your question.
    For example, your question suggests there is transaction amount column, as one might expect, but did not specify if these amounts are listed in separate buyer/seller columns. The solution below assumes they are in a single column.
    An auxiliary column (hidden) was added to the Data Table to determine whether or not an agent represented both buyer and seller. The agent's name appears in this column if he/she did, and the formula is:
    =IF(OR(Sell Agt="",Buy Agt=""),"",Sell Agt)
    The Summary table raises the question of whether the agent's amount is doubled when he/she represents both buyer and seller. Here again, an assumption was made, namely, that it does not. If this is incorrect, the last segment (after the "-" sign) of the formula below can be dropped:
    =IF(A="","",SUMIF(Sales Data :: Sell Agt, A, Sales Data :: Trans Amt)+SUMIF(Sales Data :: Buy Agt, A, Sales Data :: Trans Amt)-SUMIF(Sales Data :: 'Buyer & Seller Rep', A, Sales Data :: Trans Amt))
    And finally, the number of times an agent represented both buyer and seller:
    =IF(COUNTIF(Sales Data :: 'Buyer & Seller Rep', A)=0,"",COUNTIF(Sales Data :: 'Buyer & Seller Rep', A))
    I hope this represents your situation and that it answers your questions.

  • Master-detail: one detail row with multiple columns

    Hi All,
    I have a normal master-detail situation in the databse, in the form however all detail rows should be displayed in one single row, using more columns. The number of details are limited, so I can use a predefined number of text-items.
    Any ideas on how to implement this?
    Regards,
    Michiel

    create a function that returns your details. e.g. :
    function get_detail (P_PK, P_rownum) ...
    let's use the example dept and emp. Your master is dept. Your detail is emp. deptno is the PK for the master table.
    you have in your form multi-records of dept and maybe 5 items for employees. The name of the text-items TI_data_1 .. TI_data_5. In the post-query-trigger you code :
    :DEPT.TI_data_1 := get_detail (:DEPT.DEPTNO, 1);
    :DEPT.TI_data_2 := get_detail (:DEPT.DEPTNO, 2);
    if you need more columns create a loop and use the built-in COPY for assigning the detail-values to the text-items.
    the get_detail e.g. is a select-statement:
    SELECT ENAME
    FROM EMP
    WHERE DEPTNO = P_PK
    AND rownum = P_rownum
    ORDER BY EMPNO
    try it

    Sorry, I don't know much about Toad. If Toad is returning 0 rows, and the same query is returning 8 rows in SQL*Plus, then I suspect you are not connecting to the same database or the same user. ASre you sure you're running the exact same query in both front ends?
    Here is the data set that I am testing for:
    <pre>
    id1 value
    smple_val_1 0
    smple_val_2 1
    smple_val_3 1
    smple_val_4 2

    some_other_val2 0
    some_other_val3 3
    some_other_val4 5
    </pre>
    I am trying to select only 'smple%' in the query, which should display in four columns like:
    <pre>
    id1 val1 id2 val2
    smple_val_1 1 smple_other_1 3
    smple_val_2 0 smple_other_2 5
    smple_val_3 0 smple_other_3 8
    smple_val_4 2 smple_other_4 13

    ID1             VAL1 ID2             VAL2
    smple_val_1        0 smple_other_1      3
    smple_val_2        1 smple_other_2      5
    smple_val_3        1 smple_other_3      8
    smple_val_4        2 smple_other_4     13with the 0's and 1's in the val1 column reversed?
    Here is the ddl I used:
    <pre>
    CREATE TABLE     table_x
    ( id     VARCHAR2 (20)     PRIMARY KEY
    , value     NUMBER
    INSERT INTO table_x (id, value) VALUES ('smple_val_1', 0);
    INSERT INTO table_x (id, value) VALUES ('smple_val_2', 1);
    INSERT INTO table_x (id, value) VALUES ('smple_val_3', 1);
    INSERT INTO table_x (id, value) VALUES ('smple_val_4', 2);
    INSERT INTO table_x (id, value) VALUES ('smple_other_1', 3);
    INSERT INTO table_x (id, value) VALUES ('smple_other_2', 5);

    </pre>Thanks, that's good.
    Where is the explanation of how you get the results you want from that data? There are a lot of different ways to get the same results from the same data, especially from a small set of sample data. I might provide a query that gets the right results for the wrong reasons, and when you run that query on a different set of data, it won't necessarily work. That's exactly what happened before. I guessed at what you wanted, but I guessed wrong. Guessing is not a very efficient or reliable way to solve problems. Don't make people guess: explain what you want.
    In particular, explain how you can tell, buy looking at a row and column in the original table, to which row and which column of the output it corresponds. I'm pretty sure that the id column of the table always corresponds to either the id1 or idl2 column of the output, and that value always corresponds to either val1 or val2. From this latest set of sample data, it looks like all the rows in table_x that start with 'smple_val' will correspond to the id1 and val1 columns, and that all therows that start with 'smple_other_' will correspond to the id2 and val2 columns. It also looks like each row of the output represents a unique value of the last character of table_x.id.
    If I guessed right this time, then what you want is:
    SELECT       MIN (CASE WHEN id LIKE 'smple\_val\_%'   ESCAPE '\' THEN id    END)     AS id1
    ,       MIN (CASE WHEN id LIKE 'smple\_val\_%'   ESCAPE '\' THEN value END)     AS val1
    ,       MIN (CASE WHEN id LIKE 'smple\_other\_%' ESCAPE '\' THEN id    END)     AS id2
    ,       MIN (CASE WHEN id LIKE 'smple\_other\_%' ESCAPE '\' THEN value END)     AS val2
    FROM       table_x
    GROUP BY  SUBSTR (id, -1)
    ORDER BY  SUBSTR (id, -1)
    ;But this is only a guess. I can't guarrantee that this will work on your real data any better than my last guess did. You'll get better answers faster if you provide an explanation, so that poeple don't have to guess so much.

  • Split one row into multiple columns

    Hi,
    Data in one CLOB column in a table storing with delimiter, ##~~##. Ex. ##~~##abc##~~##defgh##~~##ijklm##~~##nopqr (data starts with delimiter). Please help me to split the data into multiple rows like below and it should be in the same order.
    abc
    defgh
    ijklm
    nopqr
    I am using Oracle 11g.
    Thanks.

    Thanks Hoek for your response. Before posting my question in the forum, I tried similar query. It is working with one character as delimiter.
    with test as (select 'ABC,DEF,GHI,JKL,MNO' str from dual )
    select regexp_substr (str, '[^,]+', 1, rownum) split
    from test
    connect by level <= length (regexp_replace (str, '[^,]+')) + 1;
    Above query is giving correct result by fetching 5 rows. I have modified the query like below...
    with test as (select 'ABC,,,DEF,,,GHI,,,JKL,,,MNO' str from dual )
    select regexp_substr (str, '[^,,,]+', 1, rownum) split
    from test
    connect by level <= length (regexp_replace (str, '[^,,,]+')) + 1;
    Above query resulting 13 rows and last 8 rows are nulls. Number of null rows are increasing, if I increase number of characters in delimiter. Could you please tell me how to avoid those null rows.
    Thanks.

  • Multiple rows to multiple column

    I have a table TableA containing 2 columns ( Name and Value). Here I know what are the values for column Name
    TABLEA
    =======
    Name Parameter
    Nexus 11
    GPlay 21
    Demo 31
    I need a query which provides the below output
    Desired Output:
    ======
    First Second Third
    11 21 31
    I have tried the below query
    SELECT
    DECODE (name,'Nexus', parameter) First,
    DECODE (name, 'GPlay', parameter) Second,
    DECODE (name, 'Demo', parameter) Third
    FROM (SELECT name, parameter FROM TableA where name in ('Nexus','GPlay','Demo'));
    This gives me the output
    First Second Third
    11 <Empty> <empty>
    <empty> 21 <empty?>
    <empty?> <empty?> 31
    Is there any way to get the output in single line.
    Thanks in advance.

    Edited by: Sud on May 5, 2013 8:22 PMYes, throw in a MAX on all your columns.
    That begs the question though ... what do you do when you have 2 rows for a given value.
    Something like
    Name     Parameter
    Nexus     11
    GPlay      21
    Demo     31
    GPlay      41Cheers,

  • Convert multiple rows to one row with multiple columns

    Hi
    i have a table Match_1 with 2 columns 'Source' and 'target'.One source can have multiple targets and that number could be anything
    CREATE TABLE Match_1
    Source CHAR(1),
    Target CHAR(1)
    INSERT INTO Match_1 VALUES ('A', 'B');
    INSERT INTO Match_1 VALUES ('A', 'C');
    INSERT INTO Match_1 VALUES ('A', 'D');
    INSERT INTO Match_1 VALUES ('A', 'E');
    INSERT INTO Match_1 VALUES ('V', 'X');
    INSERT INTO Match_1 VALUES ('V', 'Y');
    INSERT INTO Match_1 VALUES ('V', 'X');
    INSERT INTO Match_1 VALUES ('V', 'W');
    COMMIT;
    i need to get my output in the below format
    Source     target 1     target 2     target 3     target 4          target n
    A     B          C          D
    V     X          Y          Z          W
    Could you please provide me the required SQL.

    What is your database version (4 digit) ? also my example won't be generate columns for your information:
    it will produce a result like that :
    select source, listagg(target,',') within group (order by target)
      from  match_1
      group by source;
    A     B,C,D,E
    V     W,X,X,Yps: in previos post, I wrote "with" word wrong in sql.
