Expiring ColdFusion Administrator password

My particular agency has come up with a requirement that all
passwords expire every 90 days. Great for their user's network
login, easily done, makes sense.
Not so easy for ColdFusion Administrator!
I've figured out how to run a ColdFusion page to write a
registry variable and even gotten it to overwrite the flag for
password required, with the effect of turning OFF the
administrators password at regular intervals.
GREAT, but I want to do the opposite.
I can set a remind to change it manually but that doesn't
meet the requirement to expire it...
Anyone with an idea of how to approach this one?

John,  The encrypt function does not support SHA-256 as an algorithm because it is a hash algorithm not an encryption algorithm. The Hash function does support SHA-256, along with several others, see the docs: http://cfdocs.org/hash and http://cfdocs.org/encrypt
Not trying to be nit picky but there is a big difference betwen hashing a string and encrypting it, and that difference is when you encrypt it you can get the original string back by decrypting. Hash algorithms are designed not to be reversable, which makes them good for storing passwords.

The ColdFusion Administrator site will not take the password.
Has anyone had any issues with programing after the password reset?
I did not develop or program our server, just sort of picking up the pieces until we get a new Enterprise Web Developer.
    System Configuration:
    HP Proliant ML370 G2
    Pentium III 1.3 Ghz x2
    2GB RAM
    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP2
    Macromedia MX 7.0.2
EMS SQL Studio MySQL Servers & Clients 5.0.27
    MySQL Admin 1.0
    IISLogs 1.0
    My OBDC 3.51

Navigate to your lib directory within your CF install, find neo-security.xml, make a backup copy of it, then open it in a text editor and set the value for admin.security.enabled to false. Then, restart CF. You should then be able to access the CF Administrator without any password at all. You can then reenable and reset the password.

  • Not prompted to set Administrator password at logon after Sysprep

As far as I know, the following are facts regarding the Administrator password on Windows 2008 R2:
    - By default the Administrator account is enabled and the password is blank, but you are forced to set a password at first logon after Windows installation
    - Sysprep is supposed to set the Administrator password to blank, unless one is indicated in the unattend file.
On my 2008 R2 images I want to be prompted to set the Administrator password after the image is deployed (and after sysprep has been run on the source machine), but for some reason this is not happening.  Instead it just comes up with a logon screen
and expects the password that was used on the source machine.
I just want the same behavior as when 2008 R2 is installed from media, which is for the Administrator account to have a blank password, but where I am forced to set one at first boot.  I have tried setting the password to blank on the source machine
before running sysprep, but then it just automatically logs on the Administrator on the first boot, which I don't want.
What setting can I look for that may be causing this?  On a previous image which I created using the same unattend file, this worked as I wanted it to, thus the reason I believe it's a setting on my source machine.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Thank you for the reply.
From the log, we can see your administrator password was not cleared successfully.
I had a test on my Windows Server 2008 R2 computer and it cleared my administrator password successfully. After the computer restarted, it prompted me to change
the password. And the following line appeared in the log file:
[shsetup] CleanupAdministratorPassword: previous account flags = 0x00000201
    [shsetup] CleanupAdministratorPassword: password cleared
[shsetup] CleanupAdministratorPassword: setting account flags = 0x00800201
    [shsetup] CleanupAdministratorPassword: password expired
Now I would like to know whether you use any unattend file together with sysprep. Did you put any .xml file under C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep or explicitly specify
an unattend file using the sysprep command?
Please remove any .xml file in C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep, double-click sysprep.exe in C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep, check the box before Generalize to sysprep your
    system again.
    What’s the result?

  • Coldfusion service hangs when logging into coldfusion administrator

    Hi,
After changing the maximum number of connections to 1, I can
no longer enter the coldfusion administrator.
He allows me to enter the password, and then continues, but
after showing only the top frame on the left, the coldfusion
    service hangs.
I use coldfusion mx 6.1 on windows 2003 server and IIS.
    Kind regards,
    Thomas

If you mean the "Maximum number of simultaneous requests",
this setting can be changed by making an edit to jrun.xml found in
    \CFusionMX\runtime\servers\default\SERVER-INF\.
    The argument is:<attribute
    name="activeHandlerThreads">8</attribute> in the
    ProxyService section.
    Yours should show <attribute
    name="activeHandlerThreads">1</attribute>.
Be sure to make a backup copy of the jrun.xml file before
    making any edits.
You will need to restart ColdFusion after the change.

  • Sdm and administrator password are different

    Hi,
We have Portal 7.0 EHP1 system which is being used for Java development and has ESS, MSS business packages installed.
The administrator password expired, so I changed through the browser whenrein it gave option to change.
While the SDM password is same as before.
So, now the administrator and SDM passwords are different, earlier they were same.
Will this create any issue? If yes, how to resolve it?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kunal.

    Hi Kunal,
To set the admin password permanent:
Open Offline Config Tool -> Switch to Configuration Editor Mode. Navigate to cluster_data -> server -> cfg -> services PropertySheet com.sap.security.core.ume.service
    Switch to edit mode
    open the propertysheet.
It will prompt you for a security warning, accept and proceed further.
Look for value ume.logon.security_policy.password_expire_days. The default value will be 90 days. Change it to custom value 999999 and save it. Restart the engine and your Administrator user password will not get expired.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Shyam.

  • Administrator Password Change

    Hi,
After changing the default Administrator Password in the RPD, I ran the Cryptotools utility for both BI publisher and BI Scheduler to make sure that the BI Presentation services can identify the CredentialStore.
There is another xml file, xmlp-server-config.xml in the OracleBIData\xmlp\xmp\admin\configuration folder, which has a property name "BI_SERVER_SECURITY_ADMIN_PASSWORD with its value being the default password for Administrator. The password here is in clear text, not encrypted. Is this how it's supposed to be?
I do not see anywhere in the Docs. where there's an encryption procedure for this file.
I certainly do not want to have this file with the password in clear text.
    Has anyone encountered this issue?

  • Bought Used macbook pro, don't have administrator password and don't have the OS disc. Is there a way I can reset or delete the password?

I recently bought a used macbook pro. I can pretty much do everything I need on it until I want to change setting and such things. Then it asks me for an administrator password which I do not know or have. On top of that I do not have the OS disc either. Is there a way I can SAFELY reset or delete the password so I can set my own without the possibility of screwing thing up. LIke I said I can do most anything. I figured this out when attempting to tether it to my smartphone for internet access (I do all the time from my desktop but my desktop is a PC so things are a little different) I am a very new mac user, I have always been a devoted PC user until now. I have to say I am really loving my macbook pro I may just stick with mac from now on (if I can get this problem figured out without too much stress.
I am looking for the safest and best way to fix this issue where nothing I do would mess up the laptop. I can use it now and I do not want that to change, I just want to be able to change my setting and set a password of my own. PLEASE HELP, THANX!

    Hi
There actually is a slightly easier way in OS X 10.5 or greater.
    1. Start up in single-user mode (hold Command-S as the computer starts up).
    2. Type: mount -uw /
    3. Press Return.
    4. Type this:
    passwd (user's short name)
Replace "(user's short name)" with the short name of the user account whose password you wish to reset. If you are not sure what the account name is, you can get a list of user names by typing: ls /Users
    5. Press Return.
    6. Enter a new user password.
    7. Press Return.
    8. Type: reboot
    9. Press Return.

My Macbook was hacked by somebody right after activating downloaded VLC player.
I couldn’t control my machine. Every thing was messed up! Finally after reboot I realized that even my administration password was changed. Stupid hint I was able to reed: What located in box above low case ? I used my friends computer and founded hot to fix my problem using Unix commands to reboot in a single user mode. I founded a lot of different solutions which had prity the same beginnings but very complicated continuation, which, I understood will force me to cach during restoration anuther crap – time bomb in my mac! Finaly I did restor. somehow. But still feel somebodyies presents. Safary messed up – I will send you a log Itunes – messed up. Speaker in a top menu – grayed, and I can’t control my volume. But the most triky thing – bouth my Apple keybords – internal and mostly bluetouth external also working and typing wired! I am sorry for my spelling, because I cant check spell for Mac’s Word (in Microsoft it was F7) I have also several attacks from my neighbors by community I know their names, because they are somethere very close to me – I can see them throuth FI-FI connection. They often kick-me out from my place and started to use my resaurces. And also Mackeeper make me a hard time!
In Microsoft times u just reinstalled computer – clean installetion from corporate licensed disk. But now I am a beginner in MAC – I love it! But a lot of new and triky – at this way
Fore example – my goal – to do fool Macbook backup at external USB drive using boot srartup option and make my life yaser in case of crash. But now, I don’t know if I can trust recommended program  Carbon copy cloner – Ms. Bombich?
I am very sorry for my spelling, because I feel somebodies presents, who playin with me.
Final question Do I need some antivirus Mac compatable which is update paches, service packs? How to map defolt documents folder not to a local, but to external USB?
Esquse me for a lot of questions, but I am beginner in MAC, and I LOVE it!
PS. Good news. Looks like Safari came back! Somebody, probably allredy helping!
But my interface qute different from original – so something still wrong!

  • How to Reset Windows 7 Administrator Password on My Laptop

I have windows 7 Home Premium and i forgot the administrator password. whenever i start the windows 7, it asks for the password to log in. unfortunately, i forgot it. what to do?
I forgot the administrator's password. I'm not able to log in to windows. It says, "did you forgot the password?" whenever i try to log in. How do i reset forgotten Windows 7 admin password without losing data?

    In your
your situation, you can recover your password form Safe Mode.Windows 7 system has a built-in administrator account that is created during Windows installation and disable by default, which has no password in it. You need to enable that account before forgetting
your other admin account password. Otherwise your built-in administrator account won’t appear in the screen in this tip.
Step 1: Start your win 7 computer and press “F8″ while the computer boots up. Scroll down to “Safe Mode with Command Prompt” with the arrow keys on the keyboard and press “Enter.” Your computer starts in Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
Step 2: Select the Administrator account that appear in the screen, then enter command prompt. Type: net user ****** 123456 and enter (****** is the account name and 123456 is the new password), it will show you a message that” the command completed successfully.
Step 3: Restart your win 7 computer, then you can log in as ****** with the password 123456. You can go to control Panel to change your account password if necessary.
    If this
way doesn't work you can try a tool named Windows Password Recovery Tool Ultimate.

  • I have a macbook latest update & am trying to install flash player 7 will not accept password & I have triesd both administrator password & adobe password & "ok" keeps jumping w/o any message other than hint: black & white" I'm confused & frustrated.

I am a macbook user latest update & cannot get beyond the password - have used Adobe password & administrator password but the "ok" keeps jumping - hint: says "black & white" Very frustrating.

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.
If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt.  If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.
If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.
If you're still stumped, you may need to reset the password on your Mac:

I have an older version of iTunes on my office computer and it will not allow me to upgrade to the newer version without an administrative password. How can I get around this???

If you have an iBook G4, (PPC) you can't do much.
But if that is a MacBook (intel) you may be able to
upgrade the OS X, if the hardware is up to it...
Since there were about nine different build models
of MacBook (not powerpc iBook) to identify what
one you have would be the first step to knowing
what OS X and RAM upgrades it could use.
If the computer is not already at OS X 10.6.8,
it can't go online to get or use OS X 10.7.5. So,
when you more accurately describe the 'Book,
    detailed information is available.
When you find the serial number, there is a web
page that can be used to identify by serial no.
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
That'd be a first step. Or even the Model number
which should be visible on the outer case by hinge.
    Good luck & happy computing!

Can I use the same administrator password on multiple devices?  (ie) MacBook Pro and Powerbook G 4

  • Resetting a forgotten Administrator Password

I'm helping a friend who has an iMAC G5 which currently runs Mac OS X 10.4.8, (Tiger), and has forgotten his administrator password. The original discs for this machine are Tiger Mac OS X 10.2.3. We've already tried using the install disc (disc 1). We put the disc in and restarted the system, holding down the C key when the tone was heard and continued to hold it until the spinning gear appeared. It seems to load the CD because we could hear it grind as the system started up and we noticed small file-folder icons appear in the center of the screen with a question mark, but eventually it seemed to load the OS from teh hard drive and started as usual, with a Finder window open browsing the CD. From everything we've read, we should have instead seen the installation program where we'd have the chance to reset the administrator password. Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks!

Hi LLApple, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Yes, you should've sen the Installer, but...
I wouldn't try changing Tiger's Passwords with a Jaguar or Panther Install Disk at all.
