Export/import OWB (10.1 and PARIS) metadata problems

I am attempting to import an OWB 10.1–exported map into an OWB 10.2/PARIS repository .. this failed as follows from the Paris Design Center menu bar ...
Design – Import – Warehouse Builder Metadata and specify a previously exported OWB 10.1 map. I receive the following message … ”Metadata version is not compatible with you current repository version. Upgrading the file is required to import your metadata”
… Selecting ”UPGRADE” yields the following …
Upgrade started at Jul 25, 2006 12:02:05 PM
Preloading objects from release 9.2
Upgrading objects from release 9.2 to 10.0
Project "SIRR_DATA_CONVERSION"
"Error occurred importing from file "C:\MKS\ConfigurationMgmt\OWB\Unit Testing\Build 1.13\Client Account\OWBC_ALS_CLI_CLIENT\OWBC_ALS_CLI_CLIENT.mdl".

The log contained over 16000 lines of info associated with mapping parameter/mapping parameter properties/property values, groups and finally, before failing, mappingparameterconnection --> mappingparameterconnection .. I can email the log if anybody is interested in taking a look.
Two things with error above .. I do not have a 9.2 map (seems the upgrade is assuming a 9.2 map) but a 10.1 map .. and the error message seems to be truncated after ”Please contact”
any advice on importing OWB 10.1 metadata(maps) into OWB PARIS ? as I am trying to create business case for upgrading from OWB 10.1 to PARIS.

There is a similar issue logged in our Support database relating to this type of problem. The bug (ref number 5309802) has some workarounds relating to issues within an MDL file relating to non-unique IDs and blank properties for certain objects.
The log file should tell you exactly where the problem objects are located, row and column reference. If you could open a TAR with Oracle Support and send them the log file and the associated MDL file they should be able to organize a fix for you.
If you want to try this yourself then make a backup of the MDL file. Next open the MDL file using Winzip and extract the two files within the MDL file. The larger of the two files is in fact an XML file. Open this file in a text editor that shows line and column numbers. Now refer back to the log file and find the error messages from that file and cross reference row/column numbers within the XML file and see if the error makes sense to you. If it does, correct the error and then rezip everything back into an MDL file and try importing the MDL file again.
Alternatively you may want to leave this to Oracle Support to manage for you.
Hope this helps

  • OWB 10gr2 - MDL1601 and MDL1201 - Metadata Import Problems

    I am running OWB 10gr2 on top of a 10gr2 database for the repository. I'm trying to do an export of an entire project into MDL, and then import it into another repository in a different environment, with same setup (both OWB and database are 10gr2 there as well).
    The export goes fine, but when trying to import, I get two different error messages:
    1) After selecting the MDL file to import, if I click the "Import" button I get a-
    "MDL1601: Cannot import because the base language in the MDL file is missing"
    2) Also if I try to click the "Show Summary" or "Advanced..." buttons on the import screen, I instead get a-
    "MDL1201: Import file is not valid. Metadata Loader release must by specified in import data file using the MDLRELEASE keyword."
    As to the first error, I have verified in my source repository that the Base Language is in fact listed as "American English", and have even gone so far as to add basic "English" as an additional display language using the repository assistance, but this brings no improvement.
    As to the second error, I have already found the post here in the forums explaining that it is due to a corrupted MDL file because of insufficient Java VM memory. However, I have tried the solution recommended there, also with no improvement. (it is here: Re: MDL1201: Import data file is not valid.
    Any help that someone can provide would be greatly appreciated. For purposes of backing up my repository project, I'm getting concerned that if I ever needed to, I'd never be able to restore from a MDL export file!
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    The error is due to the corrupted MDL file. MDL is getting corrupted because there is not enough memory for java VM. To fix the MDL corruption increase memory parameters.
    1. On client PC: XXXX\owb\bin\win32\owbclient.bat change
    java -Xms64M -Xmx768M -Dlimit=768M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M
    to
    java -Xms64M -Xmx1024M -Dlimit=1024M -XX:MaxPermSize=512M
    Restart client session.
    It did fix the problem in my case.
    Oracle also recommends changing memory parameters on the server side (UNIX in my case)
    2.On server side XXXX/owb/bin/unix/run_service.sh
    $JAVAPATH/bin/java -Xmx768M
    to
    $JAVAPATH/bin/java -Xmx1024M

  • Export/import OWB Business Area definitions

    i have generated the Business Area definition (Logical Tree) in OWB. I can now see the Dimension and Facts definition within the logical tree section.
    i then did a metadata export using the Discoverer4 bridge and saved into an EEX file. I did not get any errors in this process.
    when i imported the EEX file into my existing Discoverer EUL (the owner and admin is similar to what i specified earlier in the OWB export process), i get a list of warnings saying things like 'There are invalid characters ~![] used'. The import was still flagged as successful.
    The thing is, i now get sort of a duplicate entry for each item i defined in OWB. Eg. i have a Product dimension (DIM_PROD), i see a "grayed out" entry with the name 'DIM_PROD' and also another entry called 'DIM_PROD: Default'. seems like Discoverer is treating the latter as the active item ... the same goes for my Facts.
    i could still build Discoverer Workbooks but now i have a very messy and duplicate items with no use when i log into Discoverer Admin. i have attempted to delete them (and succeeded with no side effects) but when i redo an import (to refresh changes i did in OWB), i get the same result again !!
    any idea why this is the case ?
    i am using OWB Client 9.0.2.62.3, OWB Repository 9.0.2, Discoverer Admin Client/EUL library 9.0.2.39.01 (EUL 5.0.0.0.0.0)
    i suspect it's the metadata import/export process ...
    thanks for any replies in advance !

    This is not an error but the intended behavior when the dimensional reuse is activated. Dimensional reuse is a feature that allows you to use the same dimension more than once in the same design (for example, the time dimension can be used for ORDER_DATE and SHIP_DATE against the same fact table. Please refer to the appendix E of the OWB user guide, 'Exporting Metadata to Discoverer 4i and 9i' chapter for more details.

  • Export Import to Maintain Test and Production Environments

    We have developed an application using Locally built Database Providers in Oracle Portal 9.0.2.6 which is installed to 2 schemas, has 5 different providers, and over 100 Portal major components (Forms, Reports, and Calendars) and over 200 minor components (LOV's and Links). We have used export/import transport sets with some luck, but it is a struggle becuase the import procedures are not very robust. Many things (such as missing LOV's, corrupt components, preexisting versions, etc, etc.) can cause an import to fail. And the cleanup necessary to finally achieve a successful import can be very time-consuming.
    Having a robust import mechanism is very important to our strategy for keeping installed (our own and clients') portal instances up-to-date with our latest release. Some of the enhancements that would make it much easier to develop and maintain Portal applications include:
    Within the Portal:
    1. Ability to copy an entire provider within the same portal (rather than one component at a time).
    2. Ability to change the schema to which a Provider is associated.
    3. When copying a component from one provider to another, the dependent items (i.e. LOVs and Links) should be copied to new second provider as well. (i.e. rather rebuilding each LOV in each provider and then editing each form to point to the new LOVs)
    Transport Sets:
    4. Should allow for changing provider names and provider schema, and global component name changes, and resetting unqiue id's on import (to create copy rather than overwrite).
    5. Should allow the option to ignore errors and import all components which pass pre-check (rather than failing all components if all items do not pass pre-check).
    How are other Portal Developers dealing with installing and then rolling out new sets of Locally built Database Providers from Development environments to Production? Are there any whitepapers on the best practices for replicating/installing a portal application to a new portal instance and then keeping it updated?
    Oracle, are any of my wish-list items above on the future enhancement lists? Or have others figured out workarounds?
    Thanks,
    Trenton

    There are a couple of references which can be found on Portalstudio.oracle.com that are of some use:

    3. Migrating Oracle Portal from Dev Systems to Production Systems bt Dheeraj Kataria.
    These are all useful documents for a successful first-time Export-Import. However, the limitations and lack of robustness I listed in my first post, make the process so time-consuming and error fraught as to not be a practical development strategy.

  • Is it possible to import / bulk upload content and associated metadata?

    We are just getting started with the Oracle portal (migrating from a previous portal vendor) and I wanted to check with other users to see if what we're thinking about trying is within the realm of feasibility.
    Here's our situation. In our current portal, have several thousand users, probably a couple thousand pages, and approximately 15 GB of files being managed. The pages and navigation schemes will have to be re-designed to fit the new Oracle paradigm, but we need some way to migrate the files (and the metadata) in a semi-automatic way. We don't want to just move EVERYTHING in bulk, because the entire premise for navigation is different in Oracle and we want to make our user communities "scrub" their data just a bit and have control over where it goes in their new environment.
    Our idea for getting the data out of the old portal is this:
    Develop a portlet that will allow administrators to select files to be downloaded in bulk to a PC. The portlet zips up the files and creates a flat file containing the metadata for the content (name, type, 512 character description, author, create date, modified date, location folder, and topics it was associated with (aka perspectives?).
    Then, we want to try to create an import capability or portlet within Oracle that will place the files where the administrator wants them in Oracle and assign the metadata from the flat file to the attributes for that content.
    - Is this within the realm of feasibility?
    - Are there better approaches?
    - Has anyone done anything similar? If so, can you share your approach?
    - Do you have any advice to help point me in the right direction?

    The way to do this is to use the Portal content area APIs. Unfortunately, these APIs are not yet available for Portal Release 2 - they're scheduled for early 2003.
    You may want to consider using the new WebClipping or Omniportlet features to publish your existing content into portal, until you are able to migrate it to the Portal repository.

  • PSE 7.0 - importing videos as .avi and having sound problems

    I am doing a slideshow with mainly pictures and want to include a few videos in my slideshow as well.  I have imported the .avi videos and they are inserted after the pictures.  The pictures are set to a song and then the song has stopped and I have the slide show set to NOT continue to play the song till the end.  The problem is the videos have no sound.  When I open them in windows media player though they are fine.  Any suggestions?

    Export the AVI as WMV in window movie maker and import the WMV in slide show  then export as wmv. Lots of codec are using in different format it could be an issue of audio codec using in AVI file.

  • Export/Import utility: unusual schema and table names

    Hi, I am working on the correct TABLE, SCHEMA.TABLE and SCHEMA names validation.
    Unfortunately, I didn't find good examples in documentation and therefore turn to the forum.
    Example: I have "My User" schema and "My Table" table and SCOTT with "scott table".
    Export:
    If I connect as My User (using client 10), I have to write
    TABLES=('"my table"', 'SCOTT."scott table"')
    If I connect as My User, (client 9 and older?) I have to write
    TABLES=('"My Table"', '"SCOTT.scott table"')
    Am I wright? It seems to work.
    ==The first question:
    Does the quoting method depends on the client version?
    I mean, '"SCOTT.scott table"' works on 9 but 'SCOTT."scott table"' works on 10.
    ==
    Further, If I connect as SCOTT, (client 10), I write
    TABLES=('"My User"."My Table"', 'SCOTT."scott table"')
    It seems to work.
    If I connect as SCOTT, (client 9 and older?), neither
    TABLES=('"My User"."My Table"', 'SCOTT."scott table"')
    nor
    TABLES=('"My User.My Table"', '"SCOTT.scott table"')
    doesn't work!
    == The second question:
    How should I write "My User"."My Table" on the 9 client?
    Import:
    I don't know how to make import to "My User".
    FULL=Y
    TOUSER='"my user"'
    # and
    #TOUSER="my user"
    doesn't work. The same with USER mode and TABLE mode import.
    Thanks to everyone who can help.

    I'm not sure how you would have been able to create a user with the user name 'my user' since gaps in the username are not allowed.
    Generally, Oracle isn't case sensitive, so the fact that 'my user' gets converted to 'MY USER' isn't a problem - infact, oracle will always present usernames in UPPER CASE unless you explicitly use the LOWER() function when selecting them from the dba_users table.
    So anyway, I think that the steps you need are:
    (from SQL*Plus, logged in a as a DBA user e.g. sys or system)
    create user MY_USER
    identified by apassword;
    grant connect, resource to my_user;
    Then, from the operating system command line:
    imp my_user/apassword@connect_string file=dump_filename.dmp FROMUSER=scott TOUSER=my_user;
    that should work.....

  • Captivate 4 Flash export/import to  CS4 Pro and Windows 7 Enterprise

    Every time I try and import my Captivate 4 project (latest Update) to Flash CS4 Pro (latest Update) I get a error Dialogue that says:
    Can't Load Library: 126.
    I'm using Window 7 Enterprise and have full admin privileges on the system. Error message happens no matter the order of  opening both programs. Tried Import into Flash and also Export to Flash. Same result either way.
    Any help on getting by this error would be great.
    Thanks in advance.

    No solution yet. Any one experienced this before?
    PS I've double checked the files: RDMFISTUB10.dll and external libraries file rdjsfl.dll are in the right spots (External Libraries and Importers) RDMFISTUB10 will restore itself if I delete it but not RDJSFL dll.
    Problem persists even if I create files on local c: drive documents folder with external files or anything in the Captivate file.

  • 4 questions on export/importing graphics for Web and Photoshop.

    Hi, I have 4 questions here, and if you can answer one or more, I'd be happy!! :-)
    1. In general, can there be a loss of quality when I export a file from Illustrator CS3 to Photoshop CS3, and then re-import it into Illustrator?
    My guess is that you can switch applications with one single file, but you have to know what you're doing (any advise? I'm working with files that contain both text with either illustrated graphics or photos).
    2. When I switch applications like that, which one is the final application I should save my final work from (for use in print and web)? Does this matter at all? (Example: I have text created in Illustrator. I export it into Photoshop and add a filter, and maybe a blured-layer of the the whole graphic.)
    3. After completing the steps in the example above, and I do re-import it all back into Illustrator, the image appears with horizontal path-like blue lines, that let me slice the photo/text if I wanted to. Why does it do this and how do I get rid of those blue lines?
    4. When exporting a file for web, what options are you setting for .gif and .jpg in order to NOT see its white background/frame around graphic?

    1. Yes. The artwork will be rasterized to a fixed resolution in Photoshop. When re-imported it may appear the same, but it will have limited resolution on output, whereas Illustrator vector art has no (or infinite) resolution.
    2. Depends on the artwork and what the client or printer has requested. If you can keep the text editable in Illustrator (blur and some Photoshop filters are available) then you'll have a more versatile and resolution independent file than you would if you switched to Photoshop. In the end, if the resolution of you art is adequate, it's up to you which is better for you to work with, based on your skills and experience. Keep all working files so you can make changes to artwork imported from one program into another.
    Some features you might enjoy: You can place Illustrator files into Photoshop and make them Smart Objects. They remember they are Illustrator files and can be edited in Illustrator at any time. Rotate, scale, or distort the artwork in Photoshop and it is re-rendered a the PSD file's native resolution. In CS3 you can add filters to Smart Objects while keeping the vector data intact.
    3. I have read about this, but as I'm not fully up on CS3 and don't have it installed on my main system I can't help.
    4. To not see a white background for JPEG use a different matte colour. JPEGs cannot be transparent, so some colour must show where you want transparency. for GIF, the same applies, but you can turn on transparency. The artwork will be transparent, but the matte colour will determine how the anti-aliased edges are rendered. Use a matte colour that's as close to your expected background as possible or choose None. PNG 24 supports 8-bit transparency, which looks best of all, but is not supported by MS Internet Explorer versions 6 or lower.

  • ASD Export/Import and the Anti-Marshal (kind of like a supervillain)

    Just tried to export a single resource action and import it back into the same environment with a new "prefix" and I get the following errors on validation....  same goes for importing it into another environment.  (which we will call "new environment"... where the Resource Action doesn't exist)  The workflow that the RA points to exists in the current environment because there is an RA that already points to that workflow.  In the new environment, the workflow exists due to a successful vRO sync.  (we can then build a successful form against the workflow in the new environment.)
    It seems like it is complaining about the Resource Type, but none of those were selected for export.. so one would expect that they wouldn't be imported.
    Anybody try out the export/import functionality in ASD and have it be successful?
    When we build a form in our Lab environment, we have to completely rebuild it in two other environments.  Though building forms in ASD is exceedingly fun and intuitive, we would really like to have a working export/import capability!

    It throws same error for exporting/importing ASD blueprints( Nothing else was selected to export like actions etc). In this case ASD blueprint exists in the destination.  Sean, did you make any progress?

  • Multiple servers in parallel export/import question

    Hello all,
    We plan to use parallel export/import using distribution monitor, and want to use several servers in export and also in import.
    The export_monitor.cmd.properties has FTP option ftphost, whic is the hostname of the import server, which looks like it will only use 1 application server (AS) from the source system and 1 in the AS in the target system -
    - is this true or can we use more AS in both export and import?
    - in the export, how to specify the AS to use?
    - in the export, how to specify more than 1 AS?
    - in the imprt, how to specify more than 1 AS ?
    Thanks,

    You can use the Distribution Monitor for that purpose. Check note  855772 - Distribution Monitor

  • Exporting/Importing Contacts-keeping "note" formatting?

    I export/import the same Contacts for mass editing in Access. No matter whether I use csv, tab or text, I lose the formatting of the notes when I import them back into Palm Desktop.
    I'm beginning to believe that Palm destroys note formatting upon import. I understand that Excel itself destroys all formatting within a cell and, therefore, is a poor choice for exporting/importing if one has long formatted notes. But with Access, I wasn't using Excel during export nor import.
    Has anyone ever exported/imported the same contact and maintained the note formatting? Is so, what did you use and how did you do it.
    Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)

    Same thing happens to me and here is what I discovered: Either Hotsync or Palm Desktop 4.1.4 destroys formatting of memos (or contacts export). Here is how I found this: I created a memo from an application in my palm with tab delimitations between each fields. I check the memo in my palm and everything is ok. I Hotsync, got to my memo in Palm Desktop, Copy the memo, and try to paste in Excel. Bam! Not working. After trying multiple ways to do that, I copied the same memo in Word and forced to view the invisible characters. Bam! (again ;-)) No more tabs. All tabulations were replaced with 4 or 5 spaces. No wonder why I could not paste in Excel. The older version of Palm Desktop did not have this problem. To make sure that my memo was fine from the get go, I beamed (IrDA) it directly to my laptop (wich is equipped with IrDA) and copy-pasted the same memo in Excel. Voila! It worked.
    So either it is the Hotsync or Palm Desktop that ruins formatting.
    I tried this with my very old PalmPilot Personnal and my brand new Palm TX.

    I have been trying to migrate my portal 3.0.7 development to another portal 3.0.8 development database and have been having problems with the page export and import routines. Portal 3.0.8 is now available in both NT and UNIX. So you need to upgrade both your platforms and then use export/import between the same versions. That's easier said than done as I have yet to get the export/import scripts to correctly and fully work on exporting from NT to UNIX Tru64. Originally I ran the scripts on NT and connected to the UNIX DB; however, somewhere I saw that it is more relaible to run the scripts on UNIX. So I am trying that now.
    Good luck!
    (By the way I notice that Larry declared war on complexity. The laughable irony of this is revealed by a look at these discussion boards!)

  • Issues with Export/Import using Database & Shared buffer

    Hi All,
    I have a method that calls a program via a job and I am having issues passing data between the two.
    Note that two different users process the method and program (via job) resp. This is how I am calling the second prog-
    SUBMIT ZPROGRAM
                 VIA JOB     l_jobname
                     NUMBER  l_jobcount
                     USER    i_user
                 AND RETURN.
    I need to pass data from method to  the second program and vice versa and then the method continues its processing with the data acquired from the second program.
    I have tried using Import/Export using database and also shared buffer. What I have found is that most of the times I am able to pass data from method to program. However the job takes a couple of min to execute and I think that the data is not making back to the method in time.
    I have looked at some useful forum links-
    Problem with export/import in back ground
    Re: EXPORT/IMPORT  to MEMORY
    but havent been able to find an answer yet. Any solution? Thanks in advance for your help!
    Liz

    Hi Suhas, Subhankar
    I have tested the scenario without the job previously itself and it works. Thats the reason, i am trying with the job now as my requirement is that I need to change the user while executing the second report.
    Here is an example of my import/export - I am passing the return value from the second report to the first.
    Code in second report-
    DATA: INDXKEY LIKE INDX-SRTFD VALUE 'RET1'.
    INDX-AEDAT = SY-DATUM.
    INDX-USERA = SY-UNAME.
    EXPORT RETURN1 TO SHARED BUFFER INDX(ST) ID INDXKEY.
    Code in first report -
    SUBMIT ZPROGRAM
                     VIA JOB     l_jobname
                         NUMBER  l_jobcount
                         USER    i_user
                     AND RETURN.
    Once Job close FM is executed successfully, I import the values as follows
    IMPORT RETURN1 TO RETURN1 FROM SHARED BUFFER INDX(ST) ID INDXKEY3.
    INDXKEY is having value RET1.
    However Return1 is not having any values in first report. It has some value in executed without the job
    Please note that I have tried Export/import with Database too and I am getting the same results.

  • Difference between "Archive/restore" and "Export/import"

    What's the difference between the utilities "Archive/restore" and "Export/import"?
    Which utility must I use for putting my maps from a development environment to a production environment?
    For the moment I am using version 9.0.3.
    I will migrate to 9.2 when the version for AIX is available.

    Marc,
    You should use OWB Metadata Export/Import utilities (not to be confused with Database Export/Import utilities).
    The Archive and Restore utilities will be desupported in the next release of OWB.
    The exact differences are documented in "OWB 9.2 User Guide", page 15-12, "Differences Between Archive and Export" and page 15-23, "Differences Between Restore and Import". The same sections are available in "OWB 9.0.3 User Guide", pages 11-45 and 11-46 respectively.
    Nikolai
