Export Library without Master

Hey guys,
Odd request but I have loads and loads of Aperture Librarys and I want to merge them into a library for each year with the Master Files on an external RAID system.
I have exported all the masters from each library to the RAID drives but now i need to merge the indeviual librarys into the relevent aperture year library.... However in each library the masters are stored within the library...
How do I import the librarys without the MASTERS but WITH the ajustments etc and then I can relocate the masters in the RAID?
I hope people understand my question, if not please ask.

There are at least two or three issues raised in your question, so let me take a swing at the easy one first - why are you doing this, specifically, why so many Libraries? For most of us, the power of Aperture is to keep all of our images in ONE library where they are easy to find using Projects, Folders, and Albums to organize.
Beyond that:
-- In Aperture, Masters can be inside the Library Package (called Managed) or outside the Package (called Referenced). A Library can have any mixture of Managed and Referenced Masters. Do some digging on this forum and you will find much discussion of the reasons to use Managed or Referenced or both.
-- There is no correlation between the arrangement of images that you see in Aperture and the physical arrangement of Master files on disk
-- If you use Managed Masters, they are arranged inside the Library Package by accession date. And you can pretty much ignore them.
-- If you use Referenced Masters they are arranged on disk(s) any way that you want.
-- If you move an image around inside Aperture the Referenced Master will not/not move on the disk. There is no reason for it do do so. (Same is true, incidentally, with Managed Masters.)
-- If you want to physically move the Master files, then the safest way is to use the Relocate Master command inside Aperture. (You can also move files using the Finder and relink, but the chances of making a fatal error are much larger.)
Sooooo,
-- If all of your Libraries are Managed Libraries, then importing one Library into another should take care of things.
-- If your Libraries are Referenced Libraries, then importing one Library into another should take care of things, but the Master file will not move.
-- If you want to physically more the Master files from one location on disk to another, or from one disk to another, the safest thing is to use the Relocate Master command.

How to export video without modification

So it appears that the new iPhoto 9.5 modifies video files when exporting, even when you choose "original." I like to backup my original files without any modification. Images don't seem to be modified, but videos are; the timestamp changes and the size is smaller. Has anyone figured out an easy way to export/backup without modifying the original video files?
I've tried going into the iPhoto library and just backing up manually from there, but Apple has once again modified the file structure of the library so it's hard to figure out if you're getting all the files, or even what date you're getting. It seems to separate it by month and date of import, but not the date the actual image/video was taken.
I liked the old version where you just select a range of images/videos in iPhoto and export the originals to a backup drive without any modification.
Here's a screenshot of how it organizes the files in the library. Kind of a mess.

With past versions, when you exported as "original," it wasn't actually exporting a new file; it was copying the original file to a new location. So you were getting a bit-for-bit copy of the original. It appears to still do that with images—the copied file has the same datestamp and size as the original. By "datestamp" I mean the date you see on the file in Finder, not the embedded Exif info.
But with videos, the new version is modifying the original, making it a smaller file size, and changing the file's datestamp. If I choose "original," I should be getting a direct copy of the original, but I'm not. Instead I'm getting a modified version of it. And given the filesize change, I'm assuming it's a compressed version.
I know direct access to the library isn't supported. It's the Apple way to keep stuff like that hidden. But in the past, if I wanted to, I could view package contents and get to files I needed much more easily than the new version allows.
I'm just trying to find an easy way to back up the original video file, not a modified version of it.

I do not have Aperture installed on my computer anymore but I do have my old library. Is there any way to extract the ORIGINAL image from the library without having Aperture installed?

I started using Aperture back when it first came out. I really had no idea what I was doing when I set everything up. I got a new computer but do not have my Aperture disc anymore but I do have my old library. I can get into the library and find the pictures in the Preview and Thumbnails folders, but these obviously are not the original pictures. The ones in the Preview folder are only 10% of the size of the original digial photo. I want to know if there is any way to get or reconstruct the original picture using the files in the library without installing Aperture.

Install the 30 day trial of Aperture. Open your Aperture Library, export the Masters and Versions.
Other than that I will make a strong recommendation not to muck within the Aperture library. Yes, you can find your photos in there, but if you ever decide to again use it may well be unable to be opened. The other thing is the photos are scattered around in a gazillion folders it would take a long time, of course depending on the number of photos, to retrieve them.

Accessing photos in iPhoto Library without importing the whole library?

I watched the Aperture video tutorials and thought I saw how to access photos to manipulate from the iPhoto Library without importing the library, but now I can't find the reference!
Ideally I don't want to import the whole iPhoto library as it is rather large.
I simply would like to open photos from it to work on.
However, when I try to import files and navigate to my Pictures folder there is no sign of the iPhoto Library, only an empty file called "iPhoto Library Recovered Photos".
Note that I can access photos in other folders but I can't even see my iPhoto library, let alone open photos from it.

GOT IT AT LAST !
Browse through iPhoto Library as above and drag chosen photo(s) into the project in the Inspector.
The photo can then be adjusted and finally saved by selecting File>Export>Version etc.

"Unavailable master images cannot be exported.The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again."

I have imported my iPhoto library onto Aperture, and then deleted the iPhoto library so not to have any duplicates. Now, the images on Aperture are pixelated and when I try to export them the following message appears: "Unavailable master images cannot be exported.The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again." What does this mean? How can I get my photos "online" so that I can see them as they used to be?

How did you import your iPhoto Library? I assume, you used "File > Import > iPhoto LIbrary", but how did you set the "Store Files" pop-up menu?
If you chose to "Store Files in their current location", then you did not actually import the master image files into Aperture, but referenced them inside the iPhoto Library. In that case, you just deleted all your images, when you deleted the iPhoto Library. And if you did that, and your iPhoto Library is still sitting in the Trash, put it back; then your Aperture Library should work again. Or restore the iPhoto Library from your most recent backup and put it into the exactly same location where it used to be.
If you used a different "Store Files" setting, please explain where you have chosen to store the master image files. This will help to track down your images.
After restoring your master image files you may need to reconnect them to the versions. Post back, if you need help with that.

Export library problem

I have two Mac computers (one 10.6 and one with 10.7) in two differents places and one HD containing my itunes library.
I would like to be able to use this library one my two computers without duplicating my library.
I made every settings to locate the library on my two computers and it works, but ...
Let's say I modify my library by modifying the 'genre' of a record and my computer 1. Then I choose 'export library' and re-import the created file in itunes on the computer 2.
The problem is that there are mistakes on the modified files : for instance only 10 out of 12 songs have the new 'genre' and the two other ones have the old 'genre'.
I tried several times but no changes.
Any solution ? Maybe there's another way to

Is Outside In's PDF Export library's function EXOpenExport thread-safe?

I'm writing a C++ wrapper, for Node.js, around the Outside In PDF Export library, on Ubuntu Linux. Node.js has a single threaded event loop and therefor any long-running processing is done on a worker thread. So, my wrapper is calling all of the PDF Export methods inside of this worker thread. I mention this so that you can be sure of two things: this is a threaded environment, and all PDF Export functions are being called on the same worker thread. Also, I am not making use of any redirected IO or PDF Export-handled threading. I've initialized the library specifying to use no threads. So all of this processing should be occuring within the thread that I call the functions on.
Everything seems to go fine when exporting a single PDF or even maybe two or three in quick succession. When I up the number of PDFs that I try to export to 5+, I receive a SIGSEGV segementation fault from within the OIT libs. The back trace is below:

I'll explain the back trace a little. The function on #11 is the function inside my code. That is the function in which I call all of the OIT lib functions. The functions on lines #12 and higher are the Node.js-related threading functions, setting up the thread to run my code's function. Functions on lines #10 down to #1 are all the OIT-called functions.
In the documentation for PDF Export, it says that if you're going to be using this library inside a threaded environment, then you need to call the init and deinit functions each time within the worker thread. I'm doing this in my code, which you can see here: https://github.com/ryancole/topdf/blob/master/src/topdf.cc#L29-L74
Is there anything else that I need to be setting that would cause this? I'm only specifying the font directory, explicitly. Are these libraries actually thread-safe? It doesn't look like they are.

Well, upon receiving a second opinion on the meaning of the phrasing in the documentation, I have got the library working in a threaded environment now. The first parameter to DEInitEx was supposed to specify to enable PTHREAD support, which I did not have. I thought that it meant something other than it actually does.

Launch iTunes with the Option key held down, click on Choose Library, and specify it. If the external drive doesn't contain the iTunes database files, create a new library there and import that music.
If the library contains any rented movies, they won't play on a different computer.

Hello!
In Bex ready for input query i can use characteristic without master data and then i can insert new values in characteristic key (maintain this characteristic from ready for input query). But when i try use this feature in WEB application i get error messsage about incorrect master data validation. Do you have any idea how use this feature in WEB?

Hi,
please be aware that this is called "Master data planning". Master data plannig is not supported in BI-IP although it may work in some cases. As far as I remember somebody posted how this could be done in the Web recently. I remember he used a class to achieve it. I have not tested the approach, but you should find the thread in the forum. Nevertheless you should try to find a "better" approach for generating new master data.

Not a good idea! The "show duplicates" feature shows "all" duplicate tracks, but you only want to delete the "extra" copies, not the "originals".
I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this thread for background, including how to delete the extra tracks manually if you prefer.

Make a smart playlist of your whole library but only checked songs - #4 on http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1801
Highlight all files in that playlist, then drag to the other drive. This isn't preserving any playlists or whatever, just copying files from one drive to another.
You might want to delete the smart playlist this once you are done because it will probably gobble up resources with that many files.

Then I suspect you do not have iTunes Match enabled. Using that "delete all" command in the Settings does not remove the music from the cloud, nor does it disable iTunes Match. With iTunes Match enabled you will still see all the music.
So go to Settings > iTunes and App Store and make sure iTunes Match is set to ON (green).

The file structure is a little complex. I will use inbox as an example.
Inbox (a large file with no file extension)
Inbox.msf ( An index of inbox with tags etc. Can be deleted with only loss of tags)
Inbox.sdb (a folder, indicating that the folder within Thunderbird has a sub folder.
POP mail is stored in
Appdata/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/*.default/Mail/[Server name]/
Local folder is stored in
Appdata/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/*.default/Mail/Local Folders/
As long as you do not overwrite, you can copy and paste whole folder trees into local folders (stuff on your old computer under a mail account is best relocated to local folder and then sorted as necessary afterwards.
Note that you should delete foldertree.json after making those sorts of copies (it forces a full refresh of the folder tree, no cache) and under no circumstances copy data with Thunderbird running. It can irrevocably corrupt things

If you purchased all songs in the iTunes Store, plug your iPod to your Mac or PC and iTunes will ask you to transfer purchases.

Connect the iPod to the comuter and make a backup by rignt clickingon the iPOd under Devices in iTunes a nd select Back Up. Then restore the iPod from that backup.
