user a 8i export or 11g export(not expdp)You need to use 8i exp utility to import the data and import to 11g with 11g imp utility.

I created the job and also given the right path for the backup but some how it fails then i check the log and i find the following output.

Subject: How to perform FULL System Export/Imports
    Type: BULLETIN
    Status: PUBLISHED
    Content Type: TEXT/X-HTML
    Creation Date: 18-APR-1994
    Last Revision Date: 30-AUG-2002
    Purpose
This article highlights some important points to consider when performing
a Full System Export and Import.
    Scope and Application
It is intended to assist users performing FULL System Exports and Imports.
A Full System Export and Import is a useful way to replicate or clean up
a database. Please note the following guidelines when performing a Full
    System Export and Import:
    1. When performing the import, ensure you are pointing at the correct
instance. Always check values for the SID and two task driver before
    proceeding.
*Note:   On Unix systems, just entering a sub-shell, such as using
C-shell, can change the database that the import would work
    against.
    2. When possible, it is advisable to take a physical copy of the
exported database and the database you intend to import into before
starting the import. This ensures any mistakes are reversible.
    3. NEVER run a FULL SYSTEM IMPORT on a machine that has more than one
database UNLESS you are 100% sure all tablespaces have been
pre-created. A full import will create any undefined tablespaces
using the same datafile names as the exported database. There are
situations where this is very dangerous:
-> If the datafiles belong to ANY other database, they will be
CORRUPTED. This is especially true if the exported database is
on the same machine, because its datafiles will be re-used by
the database you are importing into.
-> If the datafiles have names that clash with existing operating
    system files.
    4. When exporting, it is advisable to also produce a report showing
information you may need before / after the import:
-> List the tablespaces and datafiles
    -> List the rollback segments
-> List a count, by user, of each object type such as tables,
    indexes, etc.
This enables you to ensure that tablespaces have been pre-created
and to check the success of the import after it is complete.
    5. If you are creating a completely new database from an export, remember
to create an extra rollback segment in SYSTEM, and make this available
in the init.ora file before proceeding with the import.
    6. There are some versions of export that do not retain sequence numbers
correctly. It is advisable to select next_value for each sequence
after the export so that these can be checked after import.
Following these guidelines will help you to avoid major problems.

goal: How to copy an Oracle database to another machine
fact: Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition
    fix:
Pre-requisites: The copy is between 2 machines, both have to be on the same OS
and have to have exactly the same database version installed.
    1. Make sure the database you want to copy was closed with a SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE,
    SHUTDOWN NORMAL or SHUTDOWN TRANSACTIONAL.
    2. Copy init.ora and control files to create instance and be able to go in
mount mode. Check the init.ora for the locations where the controlfiles have
to be, if those locations are not valid on the machine put the control files on
different places and adjust the init.ora accordingly.
3.a. Copy the datafiles (all of them).
    b. Copy the redo-logfiles (all of them).
4.a. (Unix only) Set the environment variables:
ORACLE_SID - set to the database name you wish to create
ORACLE_HOME - set to full pathname of the Oracle system home directory
PATH - needs to include $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    b. (NT/2000 only) Do 'set ORACLE_SID=<SID>'
Use oradim to create the service for the instance. For more information
on oradim please refer to (the part that refers to creating a new instance):
    Note:68720.1 Creating a new 7.3, 8.0, 8.1 Instance/Database
    5. Use servermanager (check the name to use for your version of oracle) or
sqlplus (version 9i and above) to startup the database in mount mode.
    Do
    CONNECT INTERNAL/<PASSWORD>
    then
    STARTUP MOUNT
Then do a rename of the copied datafiles if they are not in the same path as on
the other machine. For all the files that are in the result of the query:
    SELECT NAME FROM V$DATAFILE;
    do
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '<oldfullpath>\<filename>' to <
    newfullpath>\<filename>';
    6. Query the datadictionary for the old location of the redolog files using:
    SELECT MEMBER FROM V$LOGFILE;
If the new place is not the same as the old do:
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '<oldfullpath>\<redologfilename>' to &
    lt;newfullpath>\<redologfilename>';
    7. Now open the database:
    ALTER DATBASE OPEN;

I"m not sure why, but the utilities manual has been consistent over the versions about warning not to export "as sysdba"
    *From the 8i Utilities* (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A87860_01/doc/server.817/a76955/ch01.htm#16802)
    Invoking Export As SYSDBA
SYSDBA is used internally and has specialized functions; its behavior is not the same as for generalized users. Therefore, you should not typically need to invoke Export as SYSDBA. However, there may be a few situations in which you need to do so, usually at the request of Oracle technical support.

  • Oracle 8.1.5 oci client to oracle 9i database

Is is supported to use an Oracle 8.1.5 oci client to oracle 9i
database? If not, will it work?

    Ok,
so You can follow the migration path that I've indicated before:
"To do that, the simplest way., is to install 10g r2 software on the Win 2003 machine. Create the DB and create the same accounts of the 8i version.
On the 8i version, export all the schemas using "exp" utility, w/o using the DIRECT option.
Copy the generated dump files onto the Win 2003 machine and import them using th "imp" utility,
Analyze all the objects and that the migration is complete.
You shouldn't find any problem porting structures and code from 8i to 10g R2
No matters will occours, cause imp utility of 10g is backward compatible with 8i exp files
    Hop this helps

  • Moving Oracle 9i database from AIX server to Sun Solaris 9 server

I want to move my oracle 9i database residing on AIX server to Sun Solaris 9 server.
The database residing on AIX server has the following features :-
    1. It is a production database.
    2. Running in NOARCHIVE LOG Mode.
    3. It was Live for few weeks, hence transactions are stored on it.
    4. It has one schema,around 700 tables & 129 views.....etc
    5. Huge downtime is affordable.
What is the safest way to do so ??
    Yachendra

    Hi Yachendra,
    1. It is a production database.
    2. Running in NOARCHIVE LOG Mode.By the way do you have any idea that PRODUCTION databases are always kept in ARCHIVE LOG Mode. It's is highly advice able.
    3. It was Live for few weeks, hence transactions are stored on it.If you are really serious about your data and don't want to lose anything and wants to perform CROSS PLATFORM you must make sure that you have all your achive logs.
my oracle 9i database residing on AIX serverYou have already got the solution regarding that. Maran has told you for EXPORT/ IMPORT and Burleson has given you enough documents to consult.

  • How to migrate data from oracle 9i database to new machine 11gr2 RAC ASM

    Hi Expert
I need your expertise to advise me what is the best method to move data from oracle 9i database to new machine running oracle 11r2 RAC database with ASM.
Currently my production server running on HPUX ORACLE 9I database with normal file system. My new server is running SUN SOLARIS SPACR 64 bit ORACLE 11gr2 RAC with ASM. What is best method to move data over so it will be consistent. Any guide can refer.
    Regard
    William

    Hi William,
See the note in metalink Migration of Oracle Database Instances Across OS Platforms [ID 733205.1] to saw the Endian Format of your OS. If is the same you can use the RMAN to convert the database to another OS, if not the only option is using export/import (Transportable Tablespaces).
To upgrade from 9i to 11g, see the note 837570.1 - Complete Checklist for Manual Upgrades to 11gR2.
To migrate your FS to ASM the only way is using RMAN, so see the note - How to move a datafile from a file system to ASM [ID 390274.1].
    Hope this help you.

  • Import command error while importing in oracle 8i database.

    Hi,
Trying to import a schema using imp utility in oracle 8i using sucessfully exported dump file in oracle 11g. But getting below errors.
IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
Please provide any solution for this above error so that i can import a schema in Oracle 8i database.
    Thanks.

dump file created in 11g database can't be imported in lower 8i version.
Restrictions When Using Different Releases of Export and Import
The following restrictions apply when you are using different releases of Export and Import:
Export dump files can be read only by the Import utility because they are stored in a special binary format.
Any export dump file can be imported into a later release of the Oracle database.
The Import utility cannot read export dump files created by the Export utility of a later maintenance release. For example, a release 9.2 export dump file cannot be imported by a release 9.0.1 Import utility.
Whenever a lower version of the Export utility runs with a later release of the Oracle database, categories of database objects that did not exist in the earlier release are excluded from the export.
Export files generated by Oracle9i Export, either direct path or conventional path, are incompatible with earlier releases of Import and can be imported only with Oracle9i Import. When backward compatibility is an issue, use the earlier release or version of the Export utility against the Oracle9i database.

    Borjana Zekic

When using export/import between different releases, you need to use the older version of export to create your dump file. In your case, you must use the 8.0.5 export utility to export from your 8.1.7 database. You need a tnsname in your 8.0.5 tnsnames.ora that points to your 8.1.7 database. Then you use SQL Net to connect and do the export. So, instead of doing exp system/manager you would do exp system/manager@tnsname. Just be sure to use the 8.0.5 export, and your import will work fine.

  • BLOB insertion in Oracle 10g database using ojdbc14 (10g drivers)

    Hello!
I have a situation where I am trying to insert a blob data into oracle 10g database using oracle thin
10g drivers, <b>ojdbc14.jar</b> in <b>weblogic 8.1 sp2</b>. I have the following error happening very intermittently.
    <u><b>java.sql.SQLException: OALL8 is in an inconsistent state.</b></u>
And this is leading to the <u><b>"No more data to read from socket"</b></u> error when I am trying to
insert the BLOB into the database. I have gone through the bug list of SP2 and have realised there is the
    following issue fixed in SP3.
    <b>CR124933</b>
<b>An Oracle BLOB sometimes used a pooled connection after the connection pool determined that
the connection was available for reassignment.
Code was added to ensure the BLOB is completely processed before closing the pool connection or
    ending the transaction.</b>
I believe the problem arises when we try to insert BLOB into database using a refreshed connection
from the pool.We have upgraded weblogic 8.1 from SP2 to SP4 service pack inorder to come over the above problem.
But this still continues to behave intermittently.
We put ojdbc14.jar in our classpath and Weblogic startup classpath looks like the following :-
    WLS_CLASSPATH=${WLS_DOMAIN_DIR}/appslib/server.jar:$PRE_CLASSPATH:${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/lib/weblogic.jar:
    ${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/lib/ojdbc14.jar:${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/lib:${WLS_JAVA_HOME}/lib/tools.jar:
    ${WLS_JAVA_HOME}/jre/lib/rt.jar:${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/lib/webservices.jar:${WLS_CONFIG_DIR}:
    ${WLS_CUSTLIB_DIR}:${WLS_BIN_DIR}:$POST_CLASSPATH
    export WLS_CLASSPATH
    CLASSPATH=${WLS_CLASSPATH}:${APP_CLASSPATH}
    export CLASSPATH
After upgrade to SP4, there are new ojdbc14_g.jar(debug jar) and orai18n.jar jars in the ${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/ext/jdbc/oracle/10g directory added.
Please let me know if I need to update classpath with the new 10g jars in the ext/lib directory or any suggestions

from the pool.We have upgraded weblogic 8.1 from SP2 to SP4 service pack inorder to come over the above problem.
But this still continues to behave intermittently.
We put ojdbc14.jar in our classpath and Weblogic startup classpath looks like the following :-
    > WLS_CLASSPATH=${WLS_DOMAIN_DIR}/appslib/server.jar:$PRE_CLASSPATH:${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/lib/weblogic.jar:
    ${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/lib/ojdbc14.jar:${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/lib:${WLS_JAVA_HOME}/lib/tools.jar:
    ${WLS_JAVA_HOME}/jre/lib/rt.jar:${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/lib/webservices.jar:${WLS_CONFIG_DIR}:
    ${WLS_CUSTLIB_DIR}:${WLS_BIN_DIR}:$POST_CLASSPATH
    export WLS_CLASSPATH
    CLASSPATH=${WLS_CLASSPATH}:${APP_CLASSPATH}
    export CLASSPATH
    > After upgrade to SP4, there are new ojdbc14_g.jar(debug jar) and orai18n.jar jars in the ${WLS_WEBLOGIC_HOME}/server/ext/jdbc/oracle/10g directory added.
    > Please let me know if I need to update classpath with the new 10g jars in the ext/lib directory or any suggestions
to insert BLOB using the ojdbc14 10G drivers, Weblogic 8.1 environment would be appreciated.

    > Pradeep GHi. This is something we'd like to diagnose. How is your application
getting using and closing pool connections? The initial symptom
seems to be an internal oracle problem... Are you using standard
    JDBC or oracle-specific calls?
