Export PAL movie to Avid Media Composer

Hi
I have a PAL widescreen composition which I want to render into a file to use in an Avid Media Composer (DV25) project.
I would normally just use the "DV settings" export option in AEX this results in juddering fields when I play the file back in Avid. I have tried changing the rendering field order and that doesn't seem to do the trick.
Can anyone suggest the correct way of exporting these files from AEX?
thanks

Hi
I never got round this problem, it was taking all day to test various settings so I just played it back out to tape via Premiere and then captured the footage in Avid. Clearly this is not the best long term option!
I'm a PC user. The footage is a DV lower field first interview keyed against a still image. I can export it to Adobe Premiere as an avi file with no problems at all.
I have tried exporting using the Avid codec (.mov files), my usual DV codec (.avi file). I can tell these are not the correct settings because in the avid source window, the file is slightly horizontally squashed (I see black for maybe 30 pixels on the left and right side, and the picture information is squashed into the remaining space). The field movement is not smooth on playback.
The only export setting I've tried which does not give me this problem is OMF. When I export to OMF using its DV option, and import the resulting file into Avid, the image appears to be the correct size and plays without any interlacing problems. However, there are two problems doing this - (1) there appears to be no option to export audio with an OMF file, and (2) Avid tells me that the file is the wrong resolution (DV411 not DV420). The file then exhibits some weird colour artefacts.
Any more suggestions?
thks a lot

  • Exporting QT from Mac for use in PC Avid Media Composer

Help please. We need to supply high quality footage to an agency that is using the PC version of Avid Media Composer. We have sent a plain .mov - Codecs XDCAM EX 720p25 (35Mb/s VBR), Integer (Little Endian, Timecode - and a second - Codecs Apple Intermediate Codec, Integer (Big Endian). They can only hear the audio track. We're using QTPro 7.6.2. Can anyone suggest a workround? We have access to FCP and Streamclip. Does anyone know what the PC version of Avid Media Composer can import?

I am also trying to get some HDV footage captured from miniDV in FCP to be cut in Avid. Is there a different way I can capture the footage, or a codec I can convert to, that will allow my Avid editor to import the footage? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Creating an AAF file to move a PP CC 2014 project to Avid Media Composer 8.2.0

    Hi Fellow Premiere Pro users.
I have a client who doesn't want to make the switch from Avid to Premiere Pro. He's had little luck transferring the project with AAF files, mostly because batch importing within Avid to relink the media can take hours.
Has anyone had experience moving a project from CC 2014 to Avid Media Composer?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Zhaohan,
I had the same problem, but I think I managed to find a solution, which I wrote up in this thread named "URGENT HELP MEDIA COMPOSER WON'T OPEN!"

  • Error message with Avid Media Composer 6

I have installed a free trial of Avid Media Composer 6.  I had it on my computer and it was working fine, but I thought there was an issue so I unistalled it, and then reinstalled it.  Now I am getting an error message whenever I attempt to open a project.  It reads..."Segmentation fault" in thread "MainThread", at address      0x0 ... and then the Avid Media Composer shuts down.  I have read that it is necessary to unistall any existing software first which is exactly what I did.  Im using lion on a 2 ghz i7 macbook pro.

    You should contact Avid support.

  • FCP 7 (FCS 3) and AVID media Composer 6 together?

Is anyone using FCP 7 (Final Cut Studio 3 and all related software) and AVID media Composer 6 together on the same operating system?
If so which one are you using - Snow Leopard or Lion and are there any Issues with either?
    Cheers

I bought MC 5.5 last summer, and upgraded to 6 when it came out. I have FCP 7 and family installed on the same system as well as CS5. All work great. I have this setup on a 2011 13" MBP running Lion. It works great. I like having all three on the same system, it really gives me a lot of flexibility. And I also have the same setup on a 2010 iMac 27, only this one has Snow Leopard and MC 5.5. I'm getting ready to switch it to MC 6, and take the MBP back to Snow Leopard though, it's just been sluggish since the upgrade. Other than that, I've had no problems with FCP and Avid living in the same house, if fact it's just been plain handy.

i m havind 15inch 2011 late macbook pro lap i7 processor 8gb ram 1tb hdd can i use avid media composer and final cut pro in this specifications?

Can't speak about avid, since I am not familiar with the software.
You can certainly use FCP X on that machine. It should work better if you use a fast external drive for your media and projects.
There is a free trial, so try it out and see how it goes. You should also follow some good video tutorials, if you are not familiar with the application. FCP X is a lot different from Avid, Premiere or even Final Cut Pro 7.

  • Avid Media Composer exchange with Adobe Premiere Pro

As many of you know, the features to exchange data between Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer have some limitations.
The chapter from An Editor's Guide to Adobe Premiere Pro is the best resource that I've seen on this topic. (I may be biased on that matter.) I asked Peachpit Press to make this chapter available as a free download. It's linked to from this post.
I hope that this helps, if only to make it clear where the boundaries are.

Thanks Todd.  I've experienced these limitations lately so I appreciate your post. I would urge Adobe to strengthen this compatibility.

A Thunderbolt storage device, maybe? They get very high AJA benchmarks on my machine... Seagate 7200 rpms, SATA III 2 GB drives in one enlcosure (LaCie 2big). I've two of them now and am in the process of retiring my FireWire 800 drives...

  • I have PhotoShop single app plan, want to upgrade to Creative Cloud at the discounted $29.99/mth price.  I own Avid Media Composer.  How do I do this?  Thx.

    Any help welcome!   Thanks.

The only way to get the discounted price is if you already own either CS3 or CS4 or CS5 or CS6.
A Single App subscription does not qualify.
Avid Media Composer is not an Adobe product. Not sure why it's relevant to mention it here.

  • Leopard may not work with Avid Media Composer.

I am about to purchase a new iMac for the purpose of using Avid Media Composer for editing as opposed to Final Cut Pro.
Unfortunately, Avid is not providing any tech support for those who use the new Leopard operating system on their Macs, they are only providing support who still use Tiger 10.4.10. To make matters more complicated, Apple already has Leopard installed on the computers they're selling, whether they're new or refurbished.
Is there any way to get Tiger installed on the computers that already have Leopard installed? Also, are there any Avid users who have had no problem installing them on their Leopard computers?

You can probably install Tiger on a Mac Pro if you buy it today and can locate the media, but it won't be supported.
You're in a bit of a pinch... if you'd asked this question a month ago I'd have told you to buy IMMEDIATELY but it wasn't exactly a secret that Leopard was on the way
Avid will eventually support Leopard but they'll take their time. They might also try to push a Windows box on you.

  • Any issues with Premiere Pro CC and Avid Media Composer on same system?

    Hi all:
Searched around for this but couldn't find similar question.
Am a long time Premiere Pro user, but have something coming up where I'm having to use Avid MC to collaborate with a staff editor for the duration of the job.  Am wondering if I should expect any conflicts or issues to installing both Premiere Pro CC and Media Composer on the same system?  Any insight would be most welcome.
Running Adobe CC on a Windows 7 HP Z820, Dual Xeon Processors, 128Gb RAM.
    Thanks!

    hi Jim,
well it turns out that Premiere update 7.2.2. put my computer into disarray, and caused my multi-camera monitor to lag (about 6 seconds) behind my program monitor .. so my my multi-cam monitor (with my 2 or 3 camera feeds) would  be playing footage that is 6 seconds or so BEHIND what was playing on the program monitor.
    that's the gist of it..
anyway the fine folks at Adobe, talked me through the process of going back to premiere 7.2.0 and that fixed the issue.
i hope future updates resolve this issue so that i can get back up to the minute on my software
    thanks

  • Exporting my movie to Windows Media File

I am trying to export a thirty second movie to a Windows Media file in Final Cut Express. However, every time I export it, it only does the first 14 seconds and I do not know why. My in and out points on the timeline are at the beginning and end of the 30 second clip. I have no other idea what could be causing the problem. Help!

You are using a demo version of the Flip4Mac plugin which only exports half of your clip, up to a maximum of 30 seconds.
To do the entire clip you will need to purchase the software.

    Hi,
Running creative cloud on third machine will prompt you for the deactivation from last 2 machines. As per EULA for Creative cloud you can only install and work on 2 machines only, be it MAC-MAC, MAC-windows and windows-windows.
working on third machine without deactivation from previous machines is not possible.
    Hope this helps.
