Exporting 16:9 clip

how can I export a 16:9 clip? I know this sounds like a dumb question but I have a 16:9 project and everything was shot taken a panasonic hvx200 camera and edited in a NTSC anamorphic sequence. When I export it the mov looks 4:3, everything is soo think and skinny. How can I export to regular size 16:9?

I was not able to solve the problem even by changing the properties of Quicktime to producction. I imported footage on a .mov 16:9 (853x 480) into iMovie '08, edited and i have not been able to export an unsqueezed 16:9 clip. Its either a 4:3 sqeezed or a 16:9 squeezed and croped in wich the top an bottom are croped to maintain 16:9 but the figures are still squeezed. Does anybody have an idea what i'm doing wrong?
Thanks

  • How to export and reimport clips maintaining best quality?

I'd like to ask a few questions.
    (1) I have several subclips in FCE that I would like to export, so I can import them back into FCE as individual clips, separate from the original capture. I would also like the option to use the exported clips in iMovie project. The most important thing is to save the clips at the highest possible quality. I ran into a problem when trying to import the clips back into FCE.
First, I tried exporting clips using File>Export>Using Quicktime Conversion... with the following options:
    Video Settings:
    Compression Type H.264
Quality: Best (the slider in the Settings window I dragged all the way to the right for Best quality)
    Key frame rate: 24
    Frame Reordering: yes
    Encoding mode: multi-pass
    Audio Settings:
    Format: Uncompressed
    Sample rate: 48 kHz
    Sample size: 16
    Channels: 2
    Prepare for Internet Streaming <unchecked>
The clip was saved to disk. I didn't open or modify the clip at all.
Then I tried using File>Import>Files... but when I tried to import it, I got this error:
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."
So this is the problem I'm experiencing. Can't re-import the clip into FCE (it imports into iMovie fine, though)
Questions: Am I using "wrong" settings? Why is this happening? How can I export and reimport clips while maintaining best video and audio quality?
    (2) A couple related questions: Some of my original source video was recorded at 12-bit quality (32 kHz). I know 16-bit is best (48 kHz) but the camera I used came with factory default 12-bit (and as a novice I didn't know to change it until several months later).
    So here are my questions.
    (a) If I export these clips using audio export settings at 48 kHz instead of 32 kHz, would that cause any problems?
    (b) Would those clips then be recognized by FCE and iMovie as having 48 kHz audio even though it was originally recorded at 32 kHz? (I know the quality will be no better, but I've read somewhere that using 32 kHz audio can cause some problems with out-of-sync audio, particularly in iMovie. My hope is the new clip with the 48 kHz audio will circumvent such problems.)
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

TSchneider: Thanks again for your valuable reply. I have a few follow-up questions.
My first set of questions is about rendering audio to 48kHz in the timeline.
Almost immediately you'll notice that FCE has tagged the
entire audio track with a red bar meaning it will
need to be rendered (if you try to play the clip from
the Canvas controls you'll just get beeping or very
low quality sound). Go up to the Sequence menu and
select the Render All (or Mixdown) command and FCE
will transcode the 32kHz audio of your clip to the
48kHz audio of the sequence it's sitting in.
I followed your instructions and everything seemed to work until I got to the passage above. I dragged the subclips into the timeline. The clips appeared in the timeline but there was no red bar. If I chose Render All from the Sequence Menu, nothing happened. If I chose Export to Quicktime Movie, however, it takes several minutes, apparently rendering the audio and video. If I chose instead, Print to Video, the red bars do appear and the rendering process again gets going. There is a small progress bar for both operations in the center of the screen with a percent done and estimated time remaining.
Question: Why doesn't the red bar appear as soon as the clips are in the Timeline?
Question: Why doesn't Render All (or Render Audio) work? It would be much easier to walk away while all the audio rendered into 48kHz and then come back later to save the individual clips to disk.
My second set of questions pertains to the possibility of using Export>Using Quicktime Conversion as a substitute for Export>Quicktime Movie, mainly for academic instead of practical reasons.
If you export a clip directly from the bin "Using
Quicktime Conversion" there aren't any suitable
conversion video/audio formats that would give you
both video in the right format (for iMovie) and
transcode the audio to the sampling rate you want.
I understand your description of rendering the audio files in the timeline. If only academic, I was trying to see if I could duplicate the results using using Export>Using Quicktime Conversion. I chose Quicktime Movie as the format. The video setting was DV/DVCPRO-NTSC. The audio was uncompressed with 48kHz rate. This created a Quicktime movie file with these formats. If I opened the quicktime movie file in Quicktime and checked the info on the file, the audio was indeed 48kHz.
Question: Does this mean that the Quicktime Conversion process rendered the 32kHz audio to 48kHz audio prior to writing the file? If so, it would seem to bypass the need to render the clips in a sequence (although if I could render all the clips in the sequence at once, while I was away from the computer, it would be faster than rendering and saving each clip one at a time).
Question: When I exported a clip this way, then imported it into iMovie, the original capture date/time info was missing when I got info on the clip. However, when I save the clip using Export>Quicktime Movie, the date/time of capture was still present. Would there be any way to preserve this date/time of capture info when using Export>Using Quicktime Conversion?
Question: If I decided to Export>Using Quicktime Conversion with the above settings (DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, 48kHz audio) there are other options I'm given pertaining to the video settings. There are settings for Compressor Quality, with a sliding bar where you can choose Least, Low, Medium, High, and Best quality; and there is Scan Mode (interlaced or progressive). How does one choose among these? If you want the best quality exported clip, I suppose you would chose best quality, but what scan mode is "best" for my purposes -- interlaced or progressive?
Thanks a lot for your help. I'm learning a lot!

  • How can I export a specific clip on the timeline?

    Hey all
Ive got a specific (Compound) clip that I'd like to export as FCPX is really not handling it very well.
Its actually sped up 1000%, has a Bad TV effect and colour changed. Its actually making the rest of my footage go out of sync with the audio (I guess its just too much for my system to handle)
I cant simply V disable out all the rest of the clips below it (theyre mulitcam) as you cant
    select all V
them (it just doesnt disable them all)
without going in and disabling each and every clip how can I just export my highlighted clip?
    Thanks

Cmd-C to copy; create a new temporary project, paste into it and export.

  • How to copy/export a video clip from event library to external hard drive?

Can you help? Can you export a video clip from the iMovie Event library to a hard drive

You can "daisy chain" FireWire devices. Plug your IF into the Mbook, and plug your external disk into the IF (it has two ports...), or do it the other way around, whatever seems to work best.
The whole chain will be as fast as your slowest device, and I think the FPod is FW 400, so the disk will also operate at that speed. Many people work like this on their laptops, and it works fine. Better than USB.
Don't use USB for it. USB needs CPU and is in general less efficient in handling audio. Daisychaining FW-devices is the way to go.

    Hi,
I ended up exporting my presentation, without sounds, on QT. Then in imovie, I added the sounds...
This is a little constraining, but that functions…
Thus I have a good film with synchronizations which function !

  • Export just the clip that I'm on in the sequence

Let's say I've just made a change to a clip in the sequence (an effect or whatever) and I want to confine my export to just that area.  When I say 'clip' its not a clip I have in my project window - its a clip I've created from cuts in the sequence.  So, sure, I can woefully scroll horizontally both ways until I've set the work area bar to the start and finish of my clip but what I really want to do is to be able to find a quick shortcut that would do exactly that - so that i can export just that clip.  I feel that this should be a frequent and therefore stunningly simple thing to do in PPro but, uh... no. And, of course I'm not finding a way to confine the export to just the clip from within the Media Encoder...
I can right-click on the Work Area Bar and Mark Clip but what does a marked clip do for me?  I'm sure not seeing a way to export from there.  All I get from it is a selected (shaded) area on the time markings at the top and right-clicking there is the same right-click menu I get from within the work area bar.
Frankly, usability weaknesses like this is what has held back PPro in the past (IMO) and the big features are nice but Apple has always had a better intuition on making their software usable.  Anyways, didn't want to rant.
So, am I missing a quick way to do this export?  Thanks.

I agree that 'segments' would be a good word for these cut parts of my imported clips that I have on the sequence timeline.  I think Avid uses that terminology.  My point is that since effects (Fast Color Corrector, for example) can only applied on a per-segment basis, why shouldn't exporting be permitted on a selection of these segments (one or more of segments).  Exporting is such that we want to do so to the limited extent necessary, right?
My workflow for color correction is often to first cut imported clips into scenes based on the lighting type (color temp), then apply the FCC effect to these cut segments.  I realize keyframing would be an alternative, but I don't think that subclips would be a work-around here since they don't retain effects when they go back in the Project Window as subclips.
So, what I was doing was trying different FCC settings on the same segment and wanted to limit my export to this segment.  Yes, I can use the Work Area Bar and all is fine, its just that why can I use 'Mark Clip' very conveniently in the timeline and then not use it for export purposes.  That would be the perfect answer to my request.  Honestly, I'm not exactly sure what 'Mark Clip' is supposed to lead to next, but I guess that's another topic.
I've just found that zooming in on the timeline just to where my segment(s) cover almost all the area and then double-clicking on the WAB will cause the WAB to span just this area (not the whole sequence  - as the shortcut page would suggest - but just the zoomed-in section) and cuts down on the horizontal mousing around when positioning the WAB on the boundaries of the segment.  So, that's a helpful feature.  And, of course, the ALT+[ and ] shortcuts are helpful as already stated.
Absent the scripting and expressions that After Effects has, PPro needs to make use of all the timesaving shortcuts it can, IMHO.

  • Exporting a move clip with alpha channel

    Hi there,
I’m trying to export a move clips with alpha channel.
I’m trying to export an animation with Premiere CS5. I made an animation of a rotating object in Maya and exported it with alpha channel as tiff images. Then they are edited with Photoshop to give them a drop shadow.
My problem is this. Can I export this tiff animation with the alpha channel?
My plane is to use move clips over backgrounds in a game – depending on the result there are different animations playing on top of several different backgrounds. There for the objects has to have a transparent/alpha channel over the backgrounds.
Again the reason for this is the complexity of the game and to make the game looking as real as possible. I’m hoping for some help here to make my plan possible
    …thanks

    Thanks alot for the help.
But now I’m wondering how to get the file size down?
The 32bit and alpha channel just increase the file size from about 1MB to 9,3MB, which is pretty much??
    …any ides mate?

  • IMovie HD 6.0.3: After making 10 movies where I clipped portions from a larger clip (and exported the smaller clips), suddenly iMovie clips are much shorter after I export them.

    Hi there,
I am using iMovie HD 6.0.3 on an older MacBookPro (OS X, 10.4.11).
I took an AVI video and imported that into iMovie HD.
I then created smaller clips out of that - like editing a 20 minute video into small, 30 second clips.
I made about 10 of these smaller clips, exported them using "expert settings," and burned the results to DVD. These all worked fine.
Suddenly, the final product that I export is much shorter than the clip I created. For example, I'll create a 30 second smaller clip from the original. When I review this 30 second clip, it is what I wanted.
When I export this 30 second clip, it makes a QuickTime movie that is only 23 seconds. (The first 10 I made did not do this).
I tried extending my clip by 7 seconds, hoping to end up with a 30 second clip after exporting. The result was even shorter - like 15 seconds.
I have checked disk space - it has at least 500 GB free space. I have tried exporting the clip to both my laptop and to an external hard drive. The results are the same.
I just tried using the "crop" feature to see if my end product was better - but it was the same.
Does anyone know what is going on? Why did this start after making 10 successful exports? What can I do to get it working right again, as I have 3 more clips to make and am running up against a deadline.
    Thanks so much!
    Heidi

Since I can't edit this post... (Why?) I'd add: fast forwarding and fast reverse (shift key and arrow left or right) the HA files is also not smooth. They play alright. I'm surprised iMovie can't handle them either. I didn't have a problem with the earlier camcorder's HA files... (All were converted MTS files using Movie Converter.)

  • Exporting Images and Clipping Paths

I ran into a problem exporting images the was previously reported by Ruvan Fernando on Jan 25, 2006, but nobody had responded, so I'm trying again...
I'm using the SDK to open images and then save them back out with different colorspaces, resolution, etc. When I have an image that has a clipping path in it, when it's saved, the clipping path is missing.
I am copying all the source image attributes to the destination image attributes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I tried dragging it, and it gave the original version.
At Share there are; Print, Email, Desktop, HomePage, .Mac Slides, Order prints, Send to iDVD, Burn Disk, Export
I tried Desktop and it put the current image do my wallpaper.

  • Exporting a HD clip lossless for stock footage.

    Hi all,
I want to start submiting some of my archive footage to a stock site. I want to trim the clips in FCP but not sure the best way to export them without losing any quality. Its HD footage at 1920 x 1080 (Pal).
Any advice on the best way to do this would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Simon.

I have experience, both with buying and providing clips.  The most common format is Photo JPEG...and it is pretty darn good.  If you weren't impressed, you did something wrong.  Some people like PhotoJPEG at 75%, but they provide, and I have given them, Photo JPEG at 100%.
Some do ProRes, but that is RARE. Animation too, but also rare, due to file size. H.264 is not unheard of, but is so uncommon that it is barely a blip.  I have only seen that format a handful of times.

  • Export format for clips to be used in larger project.

Back in the PE2 days, I used to capture and trim a clip and "export movie"  which resulted in a "DV-AVI" file.  This is what I understood PE "liked" and the best format to use for import to a larger project (and it worked nicely every time).  Now, in PE11, I don't see that option.  This method is handy, not only for trimming stuff you don't want, but naming the clips to help with content id.  What option should I use that preserves quality and cooperates with PE best?

  • Quicktime 10 problem with Export / Saving Edited Clips

I can do all the editing, triming, adding of clips using Quicktime Player 10.3 (727.3) but CANNOT use export. I just get an export progress box as seen below. It never advances, only thing is the time estimate continually increases. This was for two clips that were 26 seconds as you can also see in the Movie Inspector Dialog Box. The 2 million+ hours seemed a little longer than I expected. Any suggestions?

    We have solved our problem.
In fact, opening the Excel file disabling macros we had a sheet with the code.
Analyzing ths code, we seen that the macro use English reference (R1C1) to the cells and not the French reference (L1C1).

  • Batch Exporting  Color Corrected Clips, QT issues

    Hello,
I work for a small ad company with a couple guys on the road shooting video, a video editor(me) and a few graphic designers. For company workflow reasons I take video footage from guys on the road and export to Quicktime movies(5-50 per client, 5-10 sec. apiece) and give to graphic designers, they then use After Effects and Motion to lay graphics on and lay out vid for ad.
    1. I generally capture the whole tape.
    2. I select Ins/Outs from that tape and make (lets say) 50 clips in timeline.
    3. I make all clips independant and rename in order 1-50
    4. (THIS IS WHERE PROBLEM STEMS) I color correct all clips using 3 wheel color corrector
    5. I pull all 50 clips (numbered, color corrected) into a client bin
    6. Right Clip bin, Batch export.
    7. Check Use In/ Out , Make Self Contained, Prefix .Mov, Quicktime movie using MPEG 4compressor, best quality, and set destination.
    8. Hit Export
The result is a Quicktime Movie that has sound but is frozen on first frame of video.
Normally this process works perfect and I have no issues with QT. Step 4 is something that I would like to incorporate but everytime I try I get the issues with Quicktime.
Thanks ahead of time for help, hope I gave someone enough to go off of.
    I.V.

If you drag the clips from the timeline to a bin and select them all and choose batch export and set the option to export in to out, it should work.  Not sure about the naming option, but I suspect it'll work.  Do a test first.

  • Batch export of multiple clips from one video in Premiere CS4

    Hello,
I'm really in a bind and hope you guys can help me out. I have about 30 hours of video in about 30 mpg files..1 hour in each video. I need to splice out small clips from each video..anywhere from 10 to 20 clips in each and send them to Media Encoder to store as video files I can then re-use. In CS3 I can do this manually one clip at a time ..set In point, Out point and then export. This however takes a very very long time....set the ins/outs, then export, then wait, then repeat..very tedious
In CS4 can i set multiple ins/outs for the entire video and then have premiere go to work and do a batch export? Or is there another way of doing this? I have about a week left to get this done and at a total of about 450 clips to export each 2-5 mins for encoding this will take forever...plase help!
    Stan

It wont do exazctly what you want but.... But the batch encoding should save you some time since you can continue to work while it encodes/exports.
Do you need to make more than one output type? Like DV, WMV, FLV... for each one? If so, I suggest this workflow:
    1. Open source file 1 in Source monitor set in and out, ctrl drag subclip to a folder in the project panel.
    2. Repeat step 1 for any other subclips needed from source clip 1
    3. When done with first source clip go into bin where you put your subclips click on them one at a time and do export/media to your lowest compressed need (like DV AVI for example); it will be added to AME queue
    4. Repeat step 3 for all subclips, then click start queue.
    5. While AME is exporting all the subclips for your first source clip, repeat steps 1-3 on source clip 2...
When you are all done; if you need to make multiple output types for each file; Do (IN AME) File>New>Watch Folder
Create a Watch folder for each output type you want. Then simply copy all the exported clips you want inot each of these folders and AME will process them all for you in batch.
It doesnt do exactly what you wished for; but should save you a few buckets of time.
