Exporting Java Windows to different displays

Does anyone know if it is possible to 'export' Java gui components to different X clients ? In effect what I want to do is, instead of calling show() for a frame call some method passing the DISPLAY, e.g. show("1.2.3.4:0.0") which would interact with the X server to arrange for that window to be shown on that display.

Can't seem to find that thread - can you remember
much about it ?Not really.
I do remember that there are keywords associated with setting up that sort of sharing and so searching on those should help.

  • Different windows to be displayed based on conditions

    Hi all,
I have a smartform in which there are 3 types of data to be printed :
    1st - upper half - Customer data
    2nd - Middle -  Vendor Info.
    3rd - Lower half - Warehouse info
Now based on the Vendor info, the amount  and type of data to be printed  in the middle portion of the form varies.
    My strategy:
    Create a smartform  with 3 parts :
    1st part -->secondary window -->template -->display customer data
2nd part --> I have 3 types of vendor,so 3 secondary windows with different designs.
    3rd part -->secondary window >template>dislay warehouse info
    My question:
For the 2nd part,Now based on  the o/p condition i.e. the vendor name,is it possible that  the corresponding window out of the 3 secondary windows be called?
If so,where do I put the condition??Under the tab "OUTPUT CONDITIONS" of each of the secondary windows????
    Please advise.
    Thanks!

    HI,
You need to specify the condition in Conditions tab,, Not in Output condition... for each secondary window..
Since in SF there is option for conditions, It is possible to trigger any window based on any specific condition
So please give that Vendor in Field name column and pu a relation operator and then put the Comparison value..
    Regs,
    Lokesh..

  • Display xwindows in Java window

I'm wondering if it would be possible to display a single xwindow-based windows within a Java window (inside or outside of a web browser). This would be somewhat similar to VNC but only one window would be displayed, not the entire desktop. There would have to be input capabilities, of course. Thanks for any help!

There is pure java XServer implementation with GPL license. You can find more about it here -> http://www.jcraft.com/weirdx/

  • TTF and OTF versions of SourceSansPro are differently displayed in Swing (Nimbus L&F)

    Can you confirm this?
    I am using Java SE 7 U 25 on Windows 7 Pro 64bit
When I switch between the otf and the ttf version of the same font (Source Sand Pro by Adobe) then I see some differences (see the space above the "O")
But why? Is this a bug? My Java app uses the Swing L&F Nimbus

  • Premiere Pro CS4 "Export Settings" window does not show up.

    Hello,
I've run into a new problem with Premiere Pro CS4. Basically, when I select "File > Export > Media" my Export Settings window doesn't show up. If I click on the Premiere window I hear the beeping sound and nothing happens, if I hit Enter the Export Data window pops up and then Media Encoder opens. So, it seems that my Export Settings window is still open but I can't see it and make the necessary setting changes. It does not appear to be minimized and I can not locate it on my desktop anywhere. This is really frustrating because I was able to see the Export Settings window just a few weeks ago when I was exporting my last project. I've tried changing my screen resolutions but that didnt reveal the Export Settings window.
Does anyone know what is going on here and, more importantly, how I can fix it? I am really stuck here and am working against a deadline. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
    -Ben

    Ben,
THANK YOU!!!! For two days I have been struggling with the exact same issue. And of course it was simple to fix, if I had just thought about it. Thank you for taking the time to post your experience. I had tried all sorts of stuff trying to get everything onto my #1 monitor, with desktop & workspace resets, resizing my display, etc. After reading and printing your post,
    Hitting ALT+Space,
    Down Arrow,
    Enter,
and then pressing the left arrow and watching my Export window slide into view, I was laughing so hard, that I was tearing up. It would have been a month waiting for my second monitor to get repaired to get to see what was still being displayed on this ghost monitor. Each week, I video and edit our church's service and then post three versions (Windows Media Player, Ipod-MP4, MP3 Audio) of it to our web site. I would have been four weeks behind were it not for your post.
    Again, a BIG Thank You!!!

  • No virtual desktops in Win10 (please fix)?: Dangerous game promoting app switching on different displays as virtual desktops

Seems virtual desktops are overpromoted - and in fact not about virtual desktops (changing content on the desktops). The socalled virtual desktops are right now
no more than app switching on different displays.
Dangerous game again from Microsoft promoting things as something they are not.
Virtual desktops are already a well-defined concept - and people will expect the desktop to be able to change content (be dynamic) ... the data and launching programs for documents, different backgrounds.
... but as others may already have stated in other threads: (Right now) Windows 10 does not contain virtual desktops/displays/screens. Not at all.
A skeptical hypothesis - hopefully it is not so, and we will be able to work with data in a valuable way. The data is on the desktop anyway today - so why not make it real virtual desktops? I simply do not understand the decision.
So here comes the skeptical hypothesis - it's not a Steve thing. It's Microsoft still looking for that next revamped business model to finance their future.
So the freak kind of virtual desktops (virtual desktops in Win10 a lie?) will disappoint - have already begun to do so - and seems Microsoft is just taken up with inserting an additional intermediary step towards relaunching the appstore and hiding
all the user data in cloud again. Really, hiding the difference between data availability - not making the cloud something MORE but making the local system something LESS. The NEXT BIG thing? So we're going to loose file system, folders and the general ability
to form concepts of our own - and get a freak system? The NEXT BIG thing - data integration? Because data was hidden away now. Also in local systems. Artificially creating new problems - rather than solving new interesting ones?
We need to able to pin the data onto the display whether desktop, start screen, what ever. It's also on the feature requests. Desktops/Start Screen/Original displays for workflows/whatever actual starting points on login ... needs to have
more links than application from appstores and application containers linked to them.
If any more app (read: not cloud, data) but appstore, appstore, appstore
application containers hiding the data away comes into the UI I am going with Linux. I am that close ...

A better name would be Virtual Display Layouts ... Virtual Screens ... Virtual Start Screens (please let us be able to pin files/folders to the Start Screen, a requested voted for feature for Windows 10).
You see, go back and read the topics for Windows 8 ... you will learn the Start Screen is/was the new desktop - and should have been made virtual.
So please get your act together and stop confusing everything ... and make on coherent system. Drop the Start Screen - and go with the virtual desktop
(put the Start Screen technology into the virtual desktop - and let users pin folders and files there as requested ... both local and in the cloud)

  • How can I launch firefox on different displays simultaneously without creating profiles for each of them

On my solaris server, there is an application which, in order to display some information, opens the browser. The server can be accessed thorugh X windows by various users. The issue is that whn firefox is open on one display, it fails to open on another display.
The resolution for this problem as suggested by a lot of users on various forums is to create different profiles for various firefox instances. However, everytime my application will launch firefox, i will have to invoke it with -P option which will pop up the profile manager. I do not wish to show the pop up for creating profiles:(. Is there some way to allow multilple instances of firefox to run on different displays?

when you lock the preferences with the mozilla.cfg file in the firefox program folder as it's described in the mozillazine kb article above, it should apply for all users...

  • The window title bar displays incorrectly after publishing a flash file.  Captivate 4

When I open the .htm file after using the Flash option to publish, the wrong title displays in the title bar at the top of Internet Explorer's window; instead it displays a former file name.  I was told that the window name is determined by the field located here: File> Document Info> Project Name; however, this is not the case on my PC.  My coworker is able to publish it correctly, but I am not.  The first picture below is the IE title bar and the second is where (I think) that title bar pulls from, Project Name.  Please notice that mine differ.  Any suggestions?

I've run into this issue in CP4 as well though I've never been sure why it happens. It looks like you're opening the swf through a browser to so, for want of a solution, the easiest workaround is the edit the html file.
open it in a text editor such as Notepad.
Five or six lines down you'll find the title element which defines the title as it will display in your browser titlebar:  <title>This text is the title that displays in your browser title bar</title>
Just change the text the the title you want and save the html file.
If you go with this solution, I suggest that when you are publishing the project again you deselect the option "Export HTML" in the publish wondow. Otherwise you will have to edit your html file each time you publish.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem with Office document structure when exporting in Windows vs full-text indexing in SQL Server

We are creating reports with Crystal Report for .Net. We both have a Windows and a Web application connecting to our database. The problem occurs only with the Windows application. We create a report and in the dialog that appears, we choose to export the report in MS Word format. Everythinglooks fine because after we save the document, MS Word is able to open and display the document. However, when we decide to add this Word document in the database in a table that has a image column bound to a full-text indexing schema, that document is never indexed. After fiddling around for a few hours, we realized that the Word document produced during the export is not a true Word document but rather a RTF document that was given a ".doc" extension. Is there a way to have a real Word document when exporting in Windows. The problem does not arise in Web because when we export, the report is displayed in Internet Explorer through the Office plugin. The Office plugin knows how to same a real Word document.
There is also a problem when exporting to Excel in Windows. It does not yield the same structure as in Web. The format of the export in Windows is not compatible with the Office IFilter of SQL Server 2000/2005, therefore the content is not available for search queries.
Any patches to fix this problem?

  • UTF-8 csv file generated by Java can't be displayed correctly on Excel 2000

Hi, I have a question about the file geneated by Java in UTF-8 format. If I have a file named "foo.csv" generated by my java code like this:
    writer = new OutputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream("foo.csv"), "UTF-8");
Then I write some data loaded from a MS SQL 2000 server to this file. Some data are in German or french characters. After the file is generated, if I open it in notepad, all the characters in the file looks good. The file is in UTF-8 format. The only problem is that when I open this csv file in MS Excel 2000, all the non-english character display incorrectly. For example:
"VERKTYGSTEKNIK I VXJ AB" display as itself in notepad, but it display as "VERKTYGSTEKNIK I VXJ AB" in the MS Excel. I don't know the reason. If I don't have the encoding in the writer, then the file generated looks fine in the Excel (Even the non-English characters), in this case, the file is generated in ANSI format. But my client wants the file in UTF-8 format and also want to view it in Excel.
Why the UTF-8 file generated by Java can't be displayed correctly in Excel 2000?
    My environment is:
OS: Window 2000 Server English Version
    JDK: Sun jdk1.3.1
    Thanks

    - Does ms excell actually support UTF-8
Yes. I believed that we installed some international add-on which is not in default installnation. Anyway, other UTF-8 or UTF-16 file can be openned and viewed by Excel without any problem.
    - have you verifide that the file is viewable as a UTF-8 -encoded file
I think so. If I open it into Notepad and choose "save as", the file type if UTF-8 file
    - Try opening the file in a program you are confident
that it support UTF-8 - eg. Mozilla...
    I will try that.
    - Check that your UTF-8 -encoded file has a UTF-8 identifier (0xFEFF ?)
    as the first character
The unicode-16(LE or BE) file I got from internet, I found there is always two bytes in the front. (0xFEFF or 0xFFFE). My UTF-8 file generated by java doesn't have that. But should UTF-8 file also has this kind of specifcal bytes in the front? If I manually add these bytes in the front of my file using Ultraeditor and open it in Excel2000, it didn't help.
    - Try using another spreadsheet program that supports UTF-8
Do you know any other spreadsheet program supports csv file and UTF-8.

  • Can Preview Slideshows Target A Different Display?

Can the Slideshow feature of Preview use a different display (without mirroring or rearranging displays)? I can drag Preview's Slideshow controls onto a different display, but there doesn't seem to be a way to tell Preview to use a different display for the Slideshow itself.
GraphicConverter, and PowerPoint have a preference. I would have thought Preview would be cool like Keynote, and use the display its primary active window is on.
    Thanks in advance.

It sounds like the screen may be zoomed in slightly. Go into System Preferences/Universal Access and turn screen zooming off.

  • Maximize Window works different in C/S and the Web

I have read tons of topics to this point. But nothing which seams to be a solution or answer to this problem we have after migrating to Forms 10g (C/S was the source-application).
On a 1024*768 screen we had C/S-Layout with maximized MDI-Window and maximized inner Windows. That means, we have enough room for all items, blocks, ....
In Forms 10g we see, that the inner Window (named "WN_DEFAULT") maximizes in a different way: The window has a n own window-bar in which the window-title is displayed. The old c/s-technique has eliminated this window-bar...
That means we have to layout all of the 250 forms new. In multi-line-forms we have to reduce the displayed rows by 1. That's easy. In formulars we have to downsize the layout by 1 row. That's not that easy.
Is this maximize-behaviour a feature or is it fixed in the future?
    Regards
    Gerd

    Hi,
It is not possible to do achieve what you want, in C/S and Web more using same methodology. For 6i, you may need to use OLE, and for web, you can use a PJC (you can build it on top of JSpell? ). Of course, I am aware that both options are falling on your exception list ;) , but, i feel this is what you left out.

  • Java & Windows (7): Reliably getting IPv4 netmask?

I've run into a known bug with Java 6 on Windows. My understanding is that the normal way to get the netmask is to look up the network prefix length and do some bit shifts. The problem is that on Windows the prefix length is often returned incorrectly, so we get a 128 when we should get a 24 or 20.
At http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1221517/how-to-get-subnet-mask-using-java, it is suggested to put -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true on the Java command line. Unfortunately, on Windows 7, adding that as either a VM parameter or on the Java command line seems to have no effect.
    (a) Does anyone know any OTHER work-arounds for this problem that might still work on Windows 7?
    (b) Alternatively, is there an entirely different way to get the netmask that is reliable?
    Thanks!

On CodeRanch, someone explained that I had made an etiquette error by not listing the other places where I have asked this question.
    Here they are:

I am actively monitoring each site.
Explanation: I first posted on StackOverflow, but I didn't get a response. Usually I'm amazed at how quick people are to respond on that site, so I'm assuming the lack of response is due to this being a hard problem. I've been digging pretty hard on this, and most I've seen is some suggestions as to how to fix the problem in Java itself, but no work-arounds that actually work for me. Thus, I was motivated to post in multiple places in the hope that I'd get some help somewhere.
    Sorry for the confusion.

  • Setting different resolutions for different displays?, setting different resolutions for different displays?

    Hi,
I have a 30" dell display that I have used with my MBP. I recently got a MBA and installed mountain lion.  One of the things they inexplicably removed was the ability in the menu bar to set different resolutions for different displays. The only way I can get my Dell Monitor to work is to use mirroring. But I don't want mirroring. I want two separate displays.  In Snow Leopard, the drop down display menu in the menu bar allowed you to pick different resolutions for different displays. Is there any possible way to do that in Mountain Lion?
    Tom

Yes, assuming that the 8" display has a resolution that the Mac can support. When you open the Displays system preference, you'll get a settings window on each display (as long as the option for Mirroring isn't checked).
    Regards.
