Exporting problems in Final Cut Express

Hey, I've used Final Cut Express for a few years now but since I've recently switched to widescreen 1080p cameras, I've been struggling with getting the project burned in the high quality you expect.
When I export normally a quicktime movie,  and post to youtube it's fine. No problems there, high quality picture.
At first trying to go to dvd, it would change the video into a standard with bars on the sides. Then after a little research I discovered a help page by apple that explained the settings for exporting for idvd, using quicktime conversion. Now I've been getting by with that, and while it will burn it in the widescreen it was intended, the quality is not what it should be. The quality is not as good as when I post to youtube.
OK, that's one problem that plagues me, and i've been getting by with it but now I have an immediate problem on a project that needs help asap.
I am working on a project that contains photos in high quality, professional photos..... but when I export the project, these photos lose quality big time, and they are pixelated .....and it's doing this no matter how i export, normal quicktime and conversion..... someone please help! I need to have this project to my client asap, thank you!

Congratulations on your achievement.
The next thing to do would be to post your question in the correct forum:

i have a new iMac but having problems installing final cut express 4 from old macbook pro ?

FCE was discontinued nearly 3 years ago and is no longer supported.
I don't know whether it's possible to install it on Mavericks and if you do it may not perform properly.
Final Cut pro X and iMovie are the only Apple apps that are supported.

  • Chroma Key problems with Final Cut Express 4

I had no problems with the Chroma Key in Final Cut Express 4 before. It was working perfectly fine untill I brought anther Macbook Pro last year in August. I installed it on the new computer and then the Chroma Key didn't work. Final Cut opens up and the other filters work fine but I can't get the chroma key to work. Any possible reasons?

I am experiencing an interseting problem with Final Cut Express on OSX Lion.  I teach in a Mac Lab at my school.  Today I was trying to teach Chroma Keying- which I have been doing for years - but for some reason the color selector would just not key out anything.   I tried it on four or five different machines, and it turns out that ONLY my machines that were running OSX Leopard would allow the Chroma Key to function.  I have two machines running Lion and the Chroma Key would not work on EITHER of them.  I followed the exact same steps, and all of the settings were identical.  The hardware was also the exact same package from machine to machine.  I feel like there must be an issue with OSX Lion that is breaking the Chroma Key filter.  Can anyone help?

  • Audio track during export corrupted in Final Cut Express 4

I'm using final cut express in the latest version for the cut of a movie from different compresses sources from digital camperas (.mov, .avi, etc.). Everything is now set, the movie would be ready for export and looks good in preview.
After exporting the movie (no matter, if I compress the file or not) in the middle of a 5 minute take the audio track gets a problem (at 15mins. in the movie) and repeats the same sequence of audio (2 secs) until the end of the take (sorry don't know the correct english expression for that). After that other takes code fine again. Video is no affected and code without problem.
This error is repeatable on my machine, no matter which version of Final Cut Express I use (before and after the latest updates) and operating system (10.5 and 10.6). Also a reconnection of all videos and rendering of the complete movie did not help.
I'm really lost here, any ideas? I don't even know a workaround.

Thanks! Downloaded Streamclip and tried my first conversion. However, now I even made FCE crash;-) The H.264 codec seems not to be the right one. What would be the best one? Apple Intermediate Codec / Apple Motion Jpeg / Apple FCP uncompressed 10bit / Apple FCP Uncompressed 8 Bit / ..... I'm somehow lost in the possibilities and goo gle didn't help either. So I have to count on you again. Any suggestions?

  • Exporting ITunes to Final Cut Express

I recently purchased a song in ITunes 6 to use in a home movie I am creating in Final Cut Express 2.0.3 When I imported the file, Final cut would not read it. The file was blank. I open it up in IMovie and it plays fine. So I saved it as a clip and once again tried to import the clip into Final cut and it is still blank. I have done this before in ITunes 5 and it worked fine. Does this have to do with the protected file of the song?
    Any help?

    Thanks Charlie,
Yes the problem was with the protected file.
After posting this I tried importing the tune into I Movie and then selecting File/Share. I Movie forces you to also select a video clip for some reason when working with protected files. Next I selected "Quicktime/Expert settings/Share" - a menu appears then select "Sound to AIFF" and "41.1 kHz 16 bit stereo".
This seemed to do the trick and I appreciate your help but I was trying into to avoid burning a cd for one song.
I purchased this song to use only in a home movie so it seems unfortunate that these files are so protected. People buy music from I tunes rather than download it for free because they are honest so I don't understand why the music industry wants to allienate its customers.
Anyway, I really appreciate your help.
    Sincerely,
    Rob

  • Exporting HDV from Final Cut Express

I'm trying to export a video as an mpeg-2 from Final Cut Express and burn it onto a CD-ROM for use on a PC with Adobe Premier. Could anyone help on the best way to do so?

There is no MPEG-2 export from FCE unless you have a third party encoder. You might try googling it. There are some expensive ones. Why does it have to be MPEG-2 BTW? Wouldn't QuickTime be better? It's fully support by Premiere on both platforms.

  • Exporting video from Final Cut Express to be put on the internet

Is there a way to export a flash file from Final Cut Express? I have a short video I am trying to put on my web site and I am finding that every format I try people who are using PC's are having trouble opening it. It all links back to Quicktime. Is there a way to not use Quicktime?

It doesn't come with FCE. You need a Flash encoder. There are different ones of varying quality. Flash of course comes with one. Episode has Flash as an add-on. Do a google search for Flash encoders. Many encoders, after they're installed, will work directly from within FCE using the QuickTime Conversion function. There'll be a format option for Flash.

  • Exporting out of Final Cut Express

I just wanted to know if someone could tell me the suitable frame rates, options etc for best results out of Final Cut Express to then go into idvd to create a dv pal dvd.... thank you, any help would be great.

You don't need to do anything special to go to iDVD.
Use File>Export>QuickTime Movie (not QuickTime Conversion.
Select the destination where the export is to go.
    Include>Audio and Video.
Leave the Make Self Contained box unchecked. This creates a reference file (small and quick).
    Hit the Save box.
Drag this exported Reference file to iDVD.

  • Sizing exported films in Final Cut Express 4.0

    Hello.
How can I determine the size of the film I am producing, in bytes?
A seemingly simple thing, driving me mad.  I need my film to be Dvd sized so less than 4.5gig you see?
I am using Final Cut Express 4.0
    Thanks.

Aha...I always used Quicktime conversion, thinking I was smart.
    I see!  Will try now.
    Thank you very much.
    Paul.

  • Problem Installing final Cut Express HD 3.5

I am presently using Final Cut Express 2.0. Trying to upgrade to Final Cut Express HD 3.5. After the installer asks for the Product Serial#, it stops installing for lack of Hard drive space (never see a Custom install window where I could install Livetype, templates, loops, etc) on a separate disk.
I cloned my OS on a new drive. Tried to re-install Final Cut Express HD, The Installer never asked for the Product Serial # as before. It only loaded the LiveType, loops, templates, etc. The Final Cut Express HD option was blanked out. It never got loaded. Need Help. What am I doing wrong.? It seems that once you try to load FCE HD once, it won't let you do it again
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Dual 500MHZ CPU
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Dual 500MHZ CPU

Thanks Tom. I did call Apple last night but they kept me waiting for so long that I gave up. I will try to call them again. But, I don't think any of the FCE HD files were loaded since that option was grayed out (could not be selected). The Re-install was on a new Hard drive and I could select only loops, templates, etc. for loading. It's like the old FCE 2 could not be upgraded at all. Could that be a possibility ? I thought one could upgrade from FCE 2 TO FCE HD. Am I wrong?
by the way, I read your book on FCE and I think it's great.

  • Audio problems in Final Cut Express

I have edited 4 sequences successfully within a project. Everything was working fine audio and video. All material is saved to my external scratch disk. I left the project to take a break (saving it first of course). When I came back the audio is not working. I have not changed any settings and have tried to obvious like checking the volume on the computer. I know the audio is still there because the levels are moving and correct. I just can't hear it. This is the second or third time this is happened?
At one point I needed to capture some material and following capture it seemed to work again. Then I lost it again. I thought I would try capturing more material to see if I would have the same luck but not this time.
I am fairly new to editing and to Final Cut Express. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Exporting problems on final cut X with mavericks

I am trying to export a 94 minute project thru share to a master file & it hands at preparing media. Threw away preferences, don't see any yellow triangles n any clips. Any way to get this to work? I have a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon and I'm working with Mavericks.
    Thanx

My mother often had occasion to tell me that I had just started the job instead of talking about it so much I'd already be done.  I suggest doing anything BUT what I advised if you have a faster, more likely solution but again, in my limited experience when there are no yellow triangles and no obvious cause for a problem, there is a whacked clip. If, for instance, you can look over the clips sizes you may find one that is a totally non-standard size. Or perhaps one is done with some odd container that is causing an issue. You may be able to pick out the odd clip or it may be a third party transition or effect. Or something entirely unrelated to my suggestion. All I can add is that you might want to look at the specs of your clips...perhaps copy the entire timeline and work on a copy of it...toss out any third party effects or transition or whatever and see if it might be them. That approach can make a person crazy which is why I suggested just exporting half the timeline. It's really quite effecient if you can't make educated guesses as to what might be causing the problem.   I'm assuming you've trashed prefs.

  • Audio Problems with Final Cut Express

I exported a video to wmv format and when I play it back I have a problem with the audio at the end. At the end the sound seems to go into a loop and the the last words are repeated 3 times with a static sound. It plays fine on my MAC the problem only happens on a PC. The audio file was imported as a wma.

FCE does not export WMV without third party support. You should contact whoever produced the WMV export module.

  • Dropped Frames and Render/Playback problems in Final Cut Express HD

I use FCE HD and edit HD video off my Sony camcorder. Recently I've got rid of my old Imac G5 and have a newer 2GHz PowerPC G5 with more RAM (2GB) off a friend because my old mac wasn't fast enough and was incapable of playing back some of my edits.
At first when i got my new mac things looked faster and it was playing transitions without dropped frames etc. However now i've started editing again and imported new projects, i've got a big problem with dropped frames during playback and rendering. I get dropped frames during unedited clips let alone at transitions and for some reason, fce will no longer render video. Unedited clips from my latest project need rendering, which i've never had before, but when i try to render them the 'writing video...' pop up flashes, but nothing happens and the video is not rendered!
Now i can't watch and edit some of my projects without dropped frames stopping playback every other clip and i can't do anything with my new ones because the video need rendering but can't be rendered!
Can anyone help me out on either topic?

    Hi Ross,
Well, most people, myself included, would say you should consider yourself lucky if doing video via USB ever worked at all for you. Overall, USB is not up to the demands of video, and that is most likely why you are getting your dropped frames problem.
The solutions would be either use your internal HD or get a good external FW drive. I know this is frustrating, as it has been for many people who look at the raw specs where USB 2.0 appears faster than FW400 but in real life, for video especially, it is not.

  • Exporting .wmv from final cut express

I'm trying to find an acceptable method to export a movie file to share with Windows users and most codecs are extremely lossy for what I'm doing except the .wmv. But I can NOT get any sound to export with a wmv file. I have other wmv files like those I get in e-mails and they play fine... ALL other codecs I've tried bring sound with them ok. looking for assistance/explanation

You're right. My error was not reading the Flip4 manual. And tho you didn't really put together what I was saying at first ie: I WAS exporting in .wmv from FCE, you did help me understand that the conversions choices that I was using in FCE were part of a plug-in, which in turn led to the answer. Here's the deal; ALL of the .wmv conversion choices show up active with the free versions of Flip4 and you can get video converted to .wmv with quicktime supported applications (just enough to tease and confuse), BUT, apparently it doesn't finish converting the entire video clip, nor does it bring any sound with it until you purchase at least the "Studio" upgrade.
