Exporting project- folder structure to other Non-Aperture  applications

Hello,
I'm about to lay the foundation for a new Aperture installation. As far as organizational structure goes, this what I have in mind:
1 Project / year
1 Album / event
Example:
Project 1993
Derek's Birthday album
Linda's wedding album
Project 1994
Robert Birthday album
Bob wedding album
At some point, I will want to export the whole structure or some projects to family and friends who would like to view these images on their PC (not everyone is converted to MAC, yet).
I understand the Export>Projects command generates a file that can only be understood by Aperture, so useless for sharing with non-aperture users. What I'd like to do is:
1) Translate the project-album structure to a folder-subfolder structure in order to share images with other PC users.
2) At the same time export images versions as opposed to masters.
3) At the same time export all added Metadata.
I have the feeling Aperture is not ready to do all of the above with one command only. How can I maintain the project structure in order to share with other PC users? I guess only a script will be able to do this...
Thanks for your feedback.

1) Translate the project-album structure to a folder-subfolder structure in order to share images with other PC users.
Albums simply don't translate sensibly into Finder folders, in the same way that iTunes playlists don't. Any one Version can exist in any number of Albums, so you'd either end up having to choose one place for the exported file to be and remove it from all the other folders representing Albums, or end up with multiple duplicate copies of the same file.
Projects, on the other hand, can be mapped directly to Finder folders. So you might be better off using Blue Folders and Projects rather than Projects and Albums.
2) At the same time export images versions as opposed to masters.
3) At the same time export all added Metadata.
Exported Versions will automatically include IPTC & EXIF metadata, assuming you chose an export preset with metadata included.
I have the feeling Aperture is not ready to do all of the above with one command only.
There are some AppleScripts that will replicate the structure within Aperture when exporting (or Aperture Assistant* to do it without any scripting knowledge), but as I mentioned already, you will end up with multiple duplicate files.
Also, you would have to do this again every time that you alter a Version, import files or move Versions around.
Basically, the virtual nature of both images and organisation in Aperture mean that it won't really work in the way that you wish, and LightRoom wouldn't be much better even though it has closer ties to the folder structure.
Why not simply export a Projects-worth of images in this way rather than your whole Library?

  • Web assistant dump-file pre-seeded project folder structure

We are using headstart which includes the headstart templates and libraries plus some customized libraries etc. as well.
We haven't installed the web assistant yet I but have read that it has a dump-file that contains a pre-seeded project folder structure.
Can someone give more details about this project folder structure? Does this structure support only the CDM and PJM deliverables?

    Bump.

  • Export with folder structure

When a folder in the library contains subfolders, and LR is set to show files in subfolders, when the parent folder is selected, and all pictures are exported, they all end directly in the export folder. It would be great to have an option to recreate the folder structure, to maintain the original classification without having to export each subfolder separately.

I would like to see the tree structure be available for every export type, maybe as a "filter" stage: i.e. publisher + exports.
In the mean time, there are plugins:
    TreeSync3(export)
    TreePublisher

  • What is the best team project / folder structure on TFS?

I am not sure how accurate is this article below from Microsoft but although most of the structure makes sense as shown in the schema, I dont understand the project structure.
How To: Structure Your Source Control Folders in Team Foundation Server
So basically according to that structure, we have Main, Development and Releases.
Main - is the version to be uploaded on the webserver or published latest version of the app.
Development- is the version to do small changes and bug fixes.
Releases- Brunches for big changes, new features etc.
1- are these correct if anyone implemented it?
2- why under source there is myapp1 and again source, myapp1web etc.? myApp1 is the solution, i guess? but why would I add ClassLibrary under individual projects if it is shared? does it not make more sense to have another folder called "Libraries"
and pack them all shared libraries unde this folder?

    Hi emil_tr,
In the begging of the link, you can see "This content is outdated and is no longer being maintained. It is provided as a courtesy for individuals who are still using these technologies". So you might not refer to this document for source
control with TFS if you use a newer version thant TFS 2005.
The folder structure in a team project is depend on the developer, you can have your own structure if it works for you. The source folder in your second question is not the name of the folder, it's a description for the folder's usage(a
folder contains the sources). You can refer to the links below for more information about TFS branching and merging:

  • Project Folder Structure.

Ok, this is a question that possible has more then one correct answer however I would like to know your opinions about this one. On the internet (google, ant documents, maiven, etc) they have different standards on how the folder structure for the project must be. However I have my own ideas on the folder structure for the project itself. I usually divide it as follows.
    app
       +-- src
       +--config

  • Folder structure for Java Cloud Service applications

I have a Tomcat application that I wish to deploy. I have created a war file for this and included those folders as in the visitors.war (as shown in the demo) and also included MANIFEST.MF and also META-INF folder in the WEB-INF with persistence.xml just as in the visitors.war. But still, I am getting the following problem.
There was a failure when processing annotations for application /customer/applications/sample/app/sample.war. Please make sure that the annotations are valid. The error is Class bytes found but defineClass()failed for: 'MainSer' “
I haven't used an annotations in the class. I am stumped with this error.
    Kindly, reply me.

    Hello,
please ensure your application complies with WLS 10.3.6 expectations "on premises", where your application might be easier to develop and debug.
You might also have a corrupted class in your delivery...

  • PDF attachements need to be accessed by other non-SAP applications

I recently was approached with a potential new business requirement that requires access to the documents that have been attached to contracts in our SAP RE-FX system.  Currently the users use the GOS to attach a document of some sort (letter, lease info, etc.) to a contract object.  Our GIS system has the contract lease information available to it and would like to be able, when they click on a lease area on a map, have access to the PDFs that are stored in our SAP system so they can be displayed along to users using the GIS system.
Since those documents are currently stored in the sap database table (no customizing or content server setup) SOFFCONT1, those documents are not available to the external system.  They would like to have a central location where PDFs are stored and can be accessed by the SAP system or GIS system.
Is this a possibility at all?
My understanding to date is minimal on GOS and DMS and document management.  Very little was/is known about it other then users can attach documents when they click the button.  As an x-dba I've always been a little concerned about storing those growing number of large pdf files in the database and in a single table as well.  So for the moment I'm doing what I can to learn about what options are available, and what information I can pass on to our GIS time as to a possible way to share (read only) those files.
Thanks for any insight or advice you may have.
We are on ERP 6 EHP 6.

    Hi Eric,
    >> I know this isn't the ideal place to ask a Vignette question...
You may feel free to do so.
    But the answer is:
The SAP Portal can access Vignette through iViews, KM in the Portal offers an API (the Repository Framework API) to which Vignette could connect or via which you could connect Vignette and this would e.g. make Vignette searchable trough the SAP Portal.
    You see the tendency, right?
If Vignette wants to search (and before this they will have to index and crawl) KM repositories, the connectivity question lies on Vignette's side.

  • Audio via Airport Express - other non-iTune Applications?

I am blessed with a working wireless network right of the bat! iTunes will link to my stereo via Air Tunes. My other audio applications do not (Toast, Spin Doctor, Peak, ...). Should these other applications work? Is it an (old) version problem? Or is this an Apple-only capability?

You would need to use Airfoil.

  • Safari update effecting other non-Apple applications?

    Greetings All,
Updated Safari 3.2.1 in the vain hope that it would solve issues from the last update. Now a new problem. All files created in CAD application Vectorworks since update Safari take an inordinately long time to open. Not sure how or why Safari could effect other applications, beyond permissions, but...
I have repaired disk permissions, thrown away Safari preferences and restarted. A little better but not much.
    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

It is very unlikely that the Safari 3.2.1 update is responsible for this issue. I would suggest contacting the developer of the application that is misbehaving and asking them for assistance.

  • Where is the LR5 export presets folder located on Mac Mtn Lion?

    I cannot find this folder?

On Windows I can get to this folder with:
LR -> Edit / Preferences / Presets (tab) / Show LR Presets Folder (button) and this highlights the Lightroom catalog folder because I have my presets stored with my catalog.
Once I click into this highlighted folder, the Export Presets subfolder and all the rest of the presets subfolders are under a folder called Lightroom Settings.
With LR 5.2 RC, at least, it appears that the Adobe presets are internalized in LR, and only the User presets are in this folder structure.

  • Suggested Folder Structure for Photos

What folder structure do others use to organise their photos, does Lightroom effect this?
The reason I ask is that I've always organised my photos as follows
    DVD1
    Holiday to blah
    Visit by Mum & Dad
    Beckys Birthday
    DVD2
Once the DVD'n' folder reaches 4.7G I start a new folder. This has been done for backup purposes but means the folder structure is not much use locating photos.
Now that I've started to import into LR I thought if I was going to change the structure then now would be the time to do it!
The question is how do others structure their photos? How to you group the photos into DVD sized groups for backup? Does LR change this?
    Thanks
    Richard

    Richard G.,
It sounds like you are using a variation of the DAM Book's method (if you don't know what I'm talking about - forget it). At any rate, in the past I had spent some time deciding on a folder structure. In Aperture, I had a little more control on folder/subfolder naming on import, but had to change that in LR. So for now I import using a user defined destination that puts things into:
    2007
    02
    20
Later, after I process those files in the innermost folder (e.g. "20") I add a new folder as follows:
    2007
    02
    Saranac Lake
02 <-- contains files from the formet "20".
and move the "20" folder to Saranac Lake and rename by month. This way I know which folder of files has been processed, and whenever I look for specific files *outside* LR (browser or other app) I can find them by location and year. Later, when I import new files from card, new subfolders under "02" are automatically created, for example:
    2007
    02
    28
    Saranac Lake
    02
I then know files in "28" (the day) need processing. If they are also of Saranac, then I move the files to Saranac Lake, in the appropriate month. On rare occassions, I might have a set of imported files from two, possibly three locations - but I can easly group them by date/time and move them to appropriate folders. In short, I use this structure since at times I search for files when outside LR. Year and location is enough to get me there. Then it's a matter of finding the right month.
This will not work for many/most photographers, but it works for me right now. Before I go too far migrating legacy files into LR, I'll need to revisit this workflow to see if I can improve it or change it completely. (I'll need to decide on this before too long, otherwise I'll have a heck of a lot of folders to change.)
The bottom line is - each user will have to think carefully how the file/folder structure is best designed for their circumstances. In your case, you eventually back up to DVD, so your structure would be more appropriate.
Oh... and LR's ability to preform file/folder operations is one of the main reasons I jumped back to LR from Aperture. (Plus the versions and stacks that AP had all along).

  • Why no folder structure on Zen tou

I bought my zen touch few month ago. It is first mp3 player for me. Yes,sound great with crappy stock headphone form creative (for someone in this forum talking about). When connect it to my computer. Oh,not support mass storage device. ok, it is mp3 player not removable dri've (i wish it can be soon...). I have problem to organize my song with ID Tag format structure becuase when i want to remove song from playlist but song still appear on player.
It will be easy to use than ID Tag structure.
If it cannot please fix driver/program to allow delete physical file on player from playlist.
    Sorry for my english.
    Thank.
    No EAX......no problem.
    No removable dri've support....no probem.
    If all it can......Great Player.:smileyvery-happy:

It's fundamental to the way the player works, explained in more detail here.
If it's a big issue then you'd be better to get a player that works using file/folder structure.

Archive and Install will install a new System but save your Users, network settings, and third party applications, and put your old System in a folder named Previous System. You might want to reinstall plugins rather than to retrieve them from the Previous System. You also might have to reinstall some third party applications if they don't work after the Archive and Install.

  • Help me with accessing system and non-J2ME applications

As I've read in a book:
"Record stores are a private mechanism that allows MIDlets to retain data on a device. A consequence of the design of record stores is that it is not possible for a MIDlet to access data belonging to other MIDlet suites or, perhaps more significantly, data belonging to other non-Java applications on the same device. This latter restriction is quite significant, because it means that you cannot access things like a user's address book or appointment diary from a MIDlet. Similarly, non-Java applications cannot access data stored by MIDlets. Whether these restrictions will be addressed in a future version of the MIDP specification remains to be seen."
I think MIDP 2.0 has removed some of those restrictions.
I am still very novice to the J2ME world.
Here's my question: how can I handle any system or non-java application (text, image, or sound) to process them in my MIDlet. I need to read text or image. Is this possible?
Also is there some technique for browsing in mobile phones to search for some file that I need to access? (similar to that of Windows operating system)
I've been told that JSR 75 may provide me with those features, or FileConnection API. Is this true? If so, please help me with detailed information about the two of them, like how to use them, how to download them..etc. You can recommend me any links for reading.
    Thank you.
