Exporting Text captions - Non MS word possibility

Captivate 8.0.1.242 - Windows 7 - 64 bit - swf format.
Is there a possibility to export text captions with the need of having MS word in my computer?
Frankly, I hate MS word and I always stick to LaTeX. Hence, I do not have MS word in my computer. But I would still like the possibility of exporting the text captions in Captivate file to a doc file such as Libre Office so I can send it people who prefer using Word it to translate content.
Also I really prefer not getting a licensed version of MS word which I'll never use, just to do this exporting possibility.

Ok. I did export it in XML and opened it in Notepad. Kinda got scared and scarred by it.
But I opened it in the browser and it was ok. But still the content was not in 2 columns and so on. So is that expected from XML file? I have to manually create the 2 columns like the way captivate does it while exporting to word?

  • Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?

    Hello,
I have a collegue that is using Cp 5 to record software simulations which then need to be brought into Cp6. The problem is that our standards (for software simulations) employ Smart Shape call outs (not the Cp 5.5 and earlier text captions).
Is it possible to convert these text captions into our themed Smart Shapes either automatically inside Captivate 6 or by modifying the content within the CPTx file?
    Thank you,
    Shawn

    Hello Lilybiri,
As always you are awesome! :-)
    >I don't believe an automatic switch will be possible, because smart shapes are totally different objects.
I understand because there are a huge variety of shapes in either format. But I suspect that it should be easy to convert a text caption from any style to one specified smart shape style.
Actually, I am asking before the simulations get started. So nothing has been done yet. I am unsure what you are suggesting I should do in the preferences under Cp 5.5. Are you suggesting that there is a way to convert 'some format' of text callouts, in a Cp5.5 demonstration simulation, to Smart Shapes in Cp6?
    >but since you already have created the simulations, it has to be done manually. Hoping for you that
    >someone has a bright idea, but I do not see one immediately.
For anyone else in this situation, it would be handy to have a solution (rather than painstakingly convert each manually).
I am wondering if this might be a relatively easy search/replace within one of the xml files within the CPTx file. I'm going to look at this tonight.
    Thanks for your assist.

  • Multiple text captions on one slide?

Hi, i have question about multiple text captions on one slide of my project. I want o change content of text caption by clicking on different buttons on the slide.
There are 4 buttons on slide and in the middle of the slide there is text caption. Is it possible to change content of the caption by clicking the button or is there some way to do it different (hide or show different captions etc..)?
    thx martin

    Hi Mister C
I'm curious about something. You are using an action I've seen suggested elsewhere here. I use a similar approach but found that I had issues with the approach you are showing.
My approach is to use the rdcmndGotoFrame rdinfoCurrentFrame - 5
Personally, I've seen it where the way you point out failed in many cases for me. By "backing up" the playhead five frames or so, things then worked as the playhead drifted back to the pause point.

  • Text caption in hidden not exported (export /project captions and closed captions)

If you have in your demonstration text caption (ballooons) in
hidden , if you export the project caption to word it's not in
    there...
I use to set some text captions to hidden to ease my life on
slides that contain lots of ballons (and some over other ones) ,
when I export the flash animation, everything is fine , all is in
there (including the "hidden text") .
The trouble is that if i export the "project caption and
closed caption" to Word , the text of captions in hidden is not in
there . (I'm not talking about exporting handsout where you have an
option to export as well hidden slides.)
Exept if I'm wrong, I have not founded any option to manage
the fact to export hidden caption as well (or set all hidden
caption of the demonstration to "not hidden") .
It is really a problem , especially if you have done lots of
movie that needs translation, you have sent the "exported caption"
to the translation service and now you realise that some parts are
    missing .... ;(

    Hi There,
When you export the doc file as Project Caption and Closed Caption. if you change the fonts and style in Doc file and the reimported it in Captivate. It will accept those changes and you can see those changes in Captivate with the same fonts settings.
    Thanks

  • Is it possible to export text in an edl?

I'm trying to export an edl with video on V1 and text on V6. is this possible? the text is just numbers that correspond to specific shots so that the guys doing the maya work know what's what. if anybody knows a way of doing this it would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.

Welcome to the discussions, Andrew. EDLs don't carry that kind of information. The only way to do this is to add a comment to the clip (ctrl-click on the clip in the timeline, select Item Properties/Logging..., go to Comment A and type in your info. When you export the EDL, include Comment A.

  • How to bold individual word in a text caption??

    Hi,
I'm pretty familiar with Captivate 5, though there doesn't seem to be a way to bold or underline an individual word in a text caption. This is a basic feature in most programs.
I did search help and the forums for this. It sounds like you can either bold the text of the entire caption, though not a single word.
    Help please...
If this functionality doesn't exist, Adobe needs to add it in the next release.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi Dan
Works for me. And it works like I would expect it to in Word or any other application.
Select the text and press Ctrl+B to make it bold. Ctrl+U to make it underlined.

  • Is it possible to get images automatically into text captions while simulation recording?

Is it possible to get images automatically into text captions while simulation recording?

I want that will be like described below (as it works in another software for captioning):

  • Is it possible to change the formatting of all text captions in a project?

    Hi there.
I'm wanting to change the following formatting options on all text captions in my projects:
    Caption type
    Font
    Font size
    Font colour
    Spacing
Is there any way of changing these for all text captions, or do I have to change them individually? I've tried changing the options in the object style manager, but I think that only works for when you're creating a new text caption, not for existing ones.
    I'm using Captivate 7.
    Thanks.

It depends: are you using the default style for Text Captions? In that case you can change the default style in the Object Style Manager and have it applied to all Captions.
Or you can change one text caption, and in its Properties panel choose the option 'Save Changes to existing style' from the menu top right (see screenshot). Both methods will work if you didn't override the default Caption Style for those captions. Beware: Quizzing objects can use another style.

  • High bill with unusual calls and texts from non-functioning numbers?

We have a family share plan with 3 phones, one phone for my husband and two phones for our employees.  Our usual phone bill runs around $150.  Our last bill was over $600, the majority charges being on one of our employee's lines.  This particular employee has been with us for over 10 years, and has always been extremely trustworthy and very frugal in his usage of his phone to make personal calls (very infrequent and always less than 5 minutes in duration, unless made during the free nights and weekends timeframe).  Our latest bill showed over 1,000 texts to/from his phone, as well as over 3,000 peak calling minutes (both to/from his phone) alone.  Many of the peak calls are lengthy in duration (30+ minutes, up to 120 minutes).  I realize this post is long, so will divide it into headings so that it makes more sense:
    Information on usage:
Our employee insists that he did not make these calls and texts (he does not even know how to text), and what is odd about the numbers that appear on the detail (both text and voice) is that they fit into one of two categories:
    1.  There are calls to two particular non-local area code numbers (and possibly bogus, as they have area codes 523 and 352(?)).  When I call the two numbers, I get the following messages:
From my landline:  When called from my landline, adding a "1" before the 10 digit number, I get the recording stating that "your number cannot be completed as dialed, please check the number and dial again"
From a cell number- When calling from my own VZW phone (on separate account from husband's), I get a VZW message that the number "has been changed, disconnected or is no longer in service"
    2. They are local area code numbers, but when I call the number, I get a recording asking me to enter my pin number (in other words, they are numbers that cannot receive incoming calls, but according to our bill, have not only made calls to our employee's phone, but also received calls.  I have done an online lookup on these numbers and they are all cell phones.
    3.  When I have tried to text the non-local numbers from my VZW phone, I get messages back stating that these are landline numbers and cannot be texted; when I text the local numbers, I have texted a generic message along the lines of "I can't reach you on the phone.  Please call me as soon as you can" but I do not receive a call back.
We cannot speak directly with our employee right now (he is in Mexico to pick up his elderly grandmother),  nor can we access our employee's phone to check the log, call history, etc. because he has the phone with him.  Due to this, when we discovered the high usage, we immediately "suspended" the phone line so that no calls could be made or received.  Subsequent to suspending the line, we have talked to his family a couple of times -- one time he happened to call them on another line, so we talked to him "indirectly" through a family member on another line with him.  He was alarmed about the calls and insists he did not make them.
He does have children but they are forbidden (by him) from using the phone, and he states that he always keeps the phone in a case on his hip, thus no one else has access to the phone.  To go even further, it seems that most all of the calls to these unusual numbers are made on weekdays, during school hours, so I feel sure the calls were not made by his kids.
Calls to Verizon:  When we first called Verizon, they suggested we suspend the phone until we could speak to our employee.  Subsequent to our indirect conversation with him mentioned above, we called them back and told them he stated that he did not make the calls nor send the texts, and that we believed the phone might have been compromised, cloned, hijacked or whatever.  First, the customer svc rep looked at our account and suggested that we put an unlimited text on the phone for the current unbilled usage (there were a lot of texts, and we have no text plan on the employee's phone), and then remove that plan once we get to the bottom of this matter.
Due to our concern about fraudulent usage, the customer svc. rep called the fraud dept. while my husband was holding on the line.  She came back on the line and told my husband that the fraud dept. said that "it cannot be fraud because if it was, there would be thousands of dollars in international long distance to countries like Pakistan and India." (WTH?)  Also, she said that it couldn't be fraud "because texts were sent to and from the telephone number so we know it was your phone."  (another WTH?)
She then went on to say that it looks like texts were sent to international numbers (???) recently (these same 523 and 352 area code numbers I referred to above).  Number one, if these were international texts, it seems odd to me that these texts show up on our billed and unbilled activity as "domestic text" and there is no premium charge assessed to our account for international texts.  Number two, if these numbers were international numbers, I imagine that we would be charged for outgoing international calls, which we were not.  Further, I imagine that the numbers would be displayed on our bill in other than a ten digit format, but am not sure, as no one has ever made an international call or text on our phone.
    Next steps:
Does anyone have advice for the next steps we should take and how we can get to someone in customer service who can actually help us with this problem, instead of what we experienced on our previous call?  Can we demand that Verizon launch an investigation through its fraud department on the activity on this phone, or is this at the discretion of VZW to launch an investigation?  I am unsure, since this was not given as an option by the customer service rep...
If we can get Verizon to launch an investigation, is payment of the portion of the bill with the unusual and disputed usage (namely, that which is over and above the usual usage) waived pending the investigation results, or will we have to pay the entire bill to both avoid having the phones turned off, as well as any detrimental effects to our credit?  We've been hit hard by the economy, both personally (I am out of work right now) and business wise (my husband's business has been doing only about 25% of its usual business), and we don't have the extra $$ for the bill unless we take it out of our grocery budget.
If anyone has any insight, suggestions or otherwise, I sure would appreciate it.  Sorry for the lengthy first post, but I thought it would be helpful to outline as much about the situation as I could in order that people could respond.  Thanks in advance!

    kbinga,
I know this is a confusing and frustrating situation for you. I would be happy to review the account in detail to see what is happening with the usage and charges to ensure it does not continue to be a problem for you. Please send me a direct message for further support assistance.

  • Cannot create a hyperlink in a text caption

The Captivate 7 User Guide says:
"Select the phrase or word you want to hyperlink. You can hyperlink text in text captions or drawing objects.
    2. Click in the Format accordion of the Property Inspector and specify one of the options in the Link To list. For the description of the
    options"
In the Format accordion, there is no "Link To list."
There is a set of images beside Insert, one of which represents "Insert Hyperlink." However, when you have text selected in a text caption, that icon is disabled--grayed out and unclickable. It is also disabled when you single click the text-caption object and then open the Property Inspector. The "Insert Hyperlink" icon is only enabled when you open the Property Inspector for the text caption by double-clicking the text-caption object, with no text selected--however, when you then click the "Insert Hyperlink" icon, it tells you that you must select text. Catch-22.
Does anyone know how to create a hyperlink on some text?
Also: Does that first sentence quoted from the Captivate 7 UG mean that you can in theory create a hyperlink with a drawing object? I can't see how.
    Thank you,
    Jeff

Yes, Lieve, I can see how entering a Shape into the equation would get me the possibility of a hyperlink. I'm not sure I know how to use the Success action you are describing, though. Do you mean that upon successfully clicking the TEB, Show the Shape (which is set as a button, and on sucessfully clicking the button the URL is opened?) If I am right, using this approach would always require the learner to open the url, whether they got the TEB correct or not.
The workaround that I came up with was to place a click box on top of my failure caption location, and set it to open the url I wanted them to copy and paste into the TEB. (Caption reads: "Please click here to open the URL and then copy and paste it into the field above." In this case, only a failure to enter the correct information would yield the requirement to click through to the correct URL.
Thanks to both Lieve and Rod!

  • Captivate 5 on Windows - Round Trip text captions not working

When I Export project captions to Word, edit the text captions in the Updated Text Caption Data column, save the Word document, then Import to Captivate, the edited captions do not change in Captivate. My changes to the Word document were indeed saved in Word -- I opened the document in Word and the changes I made were still in the table -- but the changes are not updating in Captivate upon Import.
If anyone can help with this problem, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Hi Jay
I think you have to either close and re-open the Captivate project and retry the process or to restart Captivate.

  • Export text from pdf to csv or xls / identity-H text

    Hello,
Is it possible to export text in a pdf to a csv or an excel file (with coresponding page numbers where the text was found)
For a product we make we need to put all the text of a page into the metadata of the page. Normally we use a ghostscript for this but when customers provide a PDF with identity-H text this won't work most of the time. When this doesn't work we create a postscript of this PDF and recreate a PDF with distiller, quite often after this the ghostscript will recognize the text, but if it doesn't work... then we need to put all the text manually in an excel file and with all the text boxes and lay-out in the PDF this is a quite frustrating task.(especially a few hundred pages)
The question on top is a sulotion which will work if it is possible because that is failproof but, if someone knows an other solution to the actual problem we experience with identity-H that would be very helpfull too.
    Thanks in advance!

Here is a visual example of what I am referring to, showing the right-click location and the different options that appear. (The blue selection box is from me selecting and dragging around the question from a non-text area)

  • Why does spell checker skip some text captions?

I spell checked my project and found typos. But there was another typo on the very first slide, first text caption, which it left behind. Why did it do this?
I thought, maybe this typo is in my dicitonary, so I deleted more letters from the word, and it still did not find it.
Then, my search on this topic I found advice to export all captions to Word and spell check there, then reimport back into Captivate. Is there something I don't understand here? Why does spell check find some errors and not others?
    Please straighten me out.
    Thx!

    Hi there
Just a WAG here, but what had focus when you kicked off the spell checker? My thought here is that many spell checkers work in "directions". For example, in some apps, you choose whether you search from the selected point forward or from the selected point backward. So assuming Captivate is programmed to work in "this point forward" mode only and you have perhaps slide three selected, that would explain why earlier slides would be skipped.
Note that it's only a theory at this point. Either way, I'd strongly suggest you consider filing a bug report to the development team about it so they can investigate. (Link to the reporting form is in my sig)

  • Animating Pictures or Text Captions

    Hi Guys
Is there any way of getting more animation of Text Captions or pictures, other than simply fading them in?  I know there is the option of setting up and using the 'Text Animations' but I find the text formatting options very limited.  Notwithstanding this text issue, what about having pictures entering with a little more pizazz?
Any help would be most appreciated and if anyone from Captivate Development are reading and this isn't possible - can we have it for the future... including making the Text Animations feature more versatile with respect to text formatting - or am I just missing something here?
    Many thanks in advance
    Kind regards
    Kevin

    Hi there
Captivate can seem limiting at times. But mostly, I think it's more of a "Can't see the forest for all the darn trees in the stupid way!" issue.
Perhaps if you could articulate exactly how you would like to "jazz it up", we might suggest alternatives or using other features to help.
What you described seems to be a bit on the "fuzzy nebulous" end of the spectrum.

  • Text value not aligned with text caption

    Hello,
In my text fields, the text value is always slightly raised from the text caption. Is there a way to get them to align?
    Thanks,
    Gail

    Hi Geo,
I have tried top, middle, and bottom alignment and although they give different results, none are actually aligned with the caption text.
The top and middle alignments still have the value text raised above the caption text.
The bottom alignment gives a puzzling result of the value text being sunk below the caption text and actually somewhat cut off at the bottom.
For some of my text boxes I have thrown together a work-around solution for this by setting the baseline shift for the value text to -3pt. Although this does seem to work, I don't imagine this is how the program was INTENDED to be used and I'd like to understand how to get the text aligned without having to tweak baselines.
Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Gail
