Exporting to Excel, subreport column alignment problem

Post Author: rmayer
CA Forum: Exporting
I have a Crystal Report (v10) that contains a subreport in the Details section.  The subreport contains only a single field in its Details section and all other sections are suppressed.  When I run the report and export to Excel, for each main report detail having multiple rows returned in its subreport, the first subreport row will display the field where it is expected, but for every subsequent row the field will be shifted one column to the right.  What is even more peculiar is that if I preview the subreport data by itself and do the export, the fields do line up in the same Excel column.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Gayatry,
Did you try the following Export options?
1. Export Page Headers and Footers: On Each Page
2. Create Page Breaks for Each Page
When exported with these options the page Header and Footer section was exported as it was in the report.
Hope this helps you.

  • Layout column alignment problem

    Hi All,
I have a form where I am printing the line item details. I am using the following code
    &EKET-EINDT&,,&EKPO-NETPR1&,,&EKPO-NETWR1&
    This gives the output
    08/26/2007          688.5          1377.02
Between unit price and net price i have another coloumn to print Tax, which is only printed for documents relevant for tax (this is printed from another text element)
the amount 1377.02 is now printing under a wrong column. I need to increase spacing between unit price and net price.
I tried using the following code (by adding additional ,, )
    &EKET-EINDT&,,&EKPO-NETPR1&,,,,&EKPO-NETWR1&
But this does not make any difference in the output.
Can anyone help me how to get these values aligned?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
    Mark.

Mark, as stated, the ,, between two fields indicates a tab in the paragraph format being used.
To adjust you may need to create your own paragraph format as a copy of a standard one so your changes do not affect other lines in the form.  Generally for columns where you are printing a field containing text you would use a tab with LEFT alignment, while for an amount you would use RIGHT or DECIMAL alignment.  Just measure on the paper where you want them and set the number of CM / MM for the tabs on the paragraph format.
Printing &EKPO-NETPR1& or &EKPO-NETWR1& is dropping the first character of these fields - this may cause you problems if you ever use large amounts.  By choosing RIGHT / DECIMAL tabs, you will not need to remove any leading spaces.
If you need to change the output of a field there are a number of options you can use: eg: &EKPO-NETPR(C)& compresses spaces in the field - &EKPO-NETPR(Z)& omits leading zeros.  In SE71 when editing the text in a window - use the Insert>Symbols>New  menu option to get a popup where you can put your field name and select output options like this.

    hi,
Are you exporting from Crystal Report Designer or InfoView?
If you are exporting from CR Designer, follow the below steps.
    - Click Export button
    - Microsoft Excel (97-2003) , OK
    - 'Excel Format Options' dialog box appears
    - Export Page Headers and Page Footers -> On Each Page, OK

  • Reports built in CR Developer - Exporting to Excel through Crystal Viewer XI

    Post Author: Screenpoet
    CA Forum: Other
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question - so if not - please let me know.  Currently we build small reports in Crystal Developer XI.  As we only have this type of license (and only 2 of them), we only share reports to our end-users by having them install the Crystal Viewer XI application.  Our users are indicating that they can open the reports, but when they export to Excel, the column headings are not exporting with the data.  We also tried exporting in PDF and RTF format and the column headings do export.  Any insight on why the Excel export would not bring in the column headings?

  • Failed to export to excel

    Hi,
I am trying to export a 1,013 KB file to excel, and keep getting the error message 'failed to export to excel - encountered an unexpected problem'
Is there any way to see what the problem is, and how to resolve it?

    Hi Stacy,
There was no scan involved, but there is a company logo on each page.  The only difference between the files already converted and the one that failed is the size.  This one is 427 pages.

  • Problem with numeric columns when ADF table exported to Excel

    Hi,
We have a ADF table on a page which can be exported to excel spreadsheet using the <Af:ExportCollectionActionListener>. The adf table is within panel collection.
There are many numeric columns in this table and there is <af:convertnumber> used on these columns. No other properties are changed on the <af:convertnumber> tag, everything is default. And no formatting is applied on the view object attributes as well. When a user from US is exporting the table to excel everything works well no issues. But a Netherlands or French user exports the excel, the numeric values which have decimal point are shown as left aligned and the whole numbers in the same column are right aligned. As a result when the user is trying to sum the entire column only the right aligned numbers are getting added.
I am not sure what is the issue here ?
HAs someone seen this scenario before ?
Am I missing anything here - any property setting ?
The numbers are shown like this in the excel exported from table.
    4,077.78

  • Export to excel. Subreport blank rows generated.

    Dear Forum
Hoping you can help with a query.
I have a report that has 3 subreports all are supressed if blank and not shown during preview or print.
When i try and export the report to excel the returning result is a series of blank rows in excel.
I know the subreports are the root cause of the issue as when each of them is supressed my blank row count reduces accordingly.
Is this a know issue or is there indeed a resolution.
Thank you forum for your assisatnce as ever
    With Kind Regards
    Paul Marks

    Hi Paul,
Sorry to be a downer but It has been my experience that the more complex a report is the more problems I have when exporting especially to excel.
Below is a link to the export limitations of Crystal 10...I haven't found a newer version for XI or 2008.  This document doesn't give an exact explanation for each limitation but sometimes it's enough to know that there is an issue related to exporting your report.  In your case there are limitations related to exporting suppressed items to an excel spreadsheet.
    [Crystal Reports 10 - Export Limitations|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/d0b01060-3a62-2b10-73a1-d03a6c634914]
I don't know how much data you have but my suggestion is to try exporting your report to a csv file instead because suppression is not as much a problem when exporting to that format.  CSV files can be opened directly by Excel you are just missing any nice formatting.
If you need a nicely formatted spreadsheet, create a standalone spreadsheet formatted the way you want and either paste in the data from your exported Crystal report or link to the data in the csv file.  I have found this type of conversion takes a little longer to set up but is much easier to maintain.
If you do decide to export to csv format i must also suggest that the report be formatted for export (this also helps with data dumps to excel):
    1. Start rows of data at the left most margin and align any subsequent rows with this position.
    2. Make sure the next column (to the right) always starts where the last column ends.  This ensures no blank columns get inserted between your data.  Subsequent rows should have columns aligned in size and count to ensure proper layout.
    3. Make sure all objects in a row have the exact same height and use the "fit to section" command to prevent extra rows from being generated.
    4. Suppress all sections that do not contain any objects needed in your export.
    5. If your data isn't too wide (less than 256 bytes but it can be more if the printer driver used can print at a high dpi setting) consider using a formula to create each row of data i.e. properly padded for space delimited or with the commas where you want them for csv etc).  This also gives you more control on how each data type is formatted.
Sorry to be so long winded but I hope this helps with your exporting.

  • Exporting to Excel when subreports exist

    Hi SAP,
I have a main report along with 2 subreports.  When I export to Excel the rows and columns are all thrown off.  One is on top of the other, etc.  What can I do to export the records that will display exactly as they appear when viewing from Crystal?
    Thanks in advance,
    Z

I tried your recommendation and it didn't do much as far as correcting the export records.  I was able to get the records aligned after shrinking each section in the subreports and main report.  I also noticed that if a field overlaps with another field in the main report or within the subreports it causes the export to be disordered.  Once I was able to align each field without having them overlap I was able to get the records to export normally.
    Thanks for your recommendation nevertheless.

  • Crystal 11.5 truncating column headers on export to excel

    Hi,
We are currently (or finally as the case may be) upgrading our reports from Crystal 8.5 to Crystal 11.5 (which I know is a few versions behind but unfortunately the software that we integrate with is only compatible to 11.5).
However, I've been having a problem exporting to excel.
The column headers (which can be in a range of report header/page header/group header) are truncating to the the length that they display on the screen before the export.  When I view them in crystal viewer I can see that the entire text field is available.  However this does not flow through to export to excel.
I have utilised the "Can grow" formatting option however this then creates a merged field up 3 rows high in excel and the report then has problems using excel functions like sort etc.
I also attempted to use the data only option which does export the full text in the column names but then I lose the rest of my formatting.
There were no issues exporting from v8.5
    I have snapped to grid.
The actual data exports without issue it is only the column headers (text) which pose a problem.
I am unable to reduce the amount of data that we include in our report to free up space to display the entire text.
I would prefer to not reduce to a 4pt text size to ensure that it exports correctly as this will have significant impacts for those people who actually export the reports.
Is anyone able to shed some light on how to resolve this issue?   I've googled and searched these forums extensively but can't quite find a resolution to the issue and would really appreciate any assistance that anyone can offer me.
    Kind regards
    Janne

    Ian
It works for me whether my headers are text fields or field headers. Once I export them I expand the columns and set the cells to wrap, and I get the complete contents. Ditto for the fields themselved, and text fields containing data fields.
I always export excel(97-2003)data only with Column width based on objects in the details & checking   Export object formating, Maintain relative object position, Maintain column alignment, export page header and page footer, Simplify page headers.
Allow fields to grow is off on everything during exports.
Note: nearly all my reports are designed in Crystal 2008 without any SQL commands and all exports are done manually. Perhaps it is a XI.5 issue?

  • Export to Excel alignment off after Windows 2003 upgrade

    Hi All,
I have an application that uses Crystal Reports 10(sp6) and VB6 that has worked fine for a few years and now that I have upgraded the server to Windows 2003 the alignment of the excel output is off.  All pages (45 of them) get printed on their own row in the output xls file.  The report gets filled in during the execution of the VB6 executable and then gets exported to PDF and then to excel.  PDF is fine but the excel output is unacceptable.  I've been playing with the different exportoptions and cannot seem to get the alignment I need.  Basically we need the rows and columns to align.
In further testing I have exported the report with data (our original rpt file is just a shell that we fill in with data) to a crystal reports file.  I then have taken this report through the Crystal Reports 10 IDE and was able to export it and the output looks exactly like I need it to.  So I'm sure there is settings to accomplish the output.
    This is the original code:
    With My_Crystal_Report
        .ExportOptions.Reset
        .ExportOptions.FormatType = crEFTExcelDataOnly
        .ExportOptions.ExcelMaintainColumnAlignment = False
        .ExportOptions.ExcelUseFormatInDataOnly = True
        .ExportOptions.ExcelConstantColumnWidth = CDbl(800)
        .ExportOptions.DestinationType = crEDTDiskFile
        .ExportOptions.DiskFileName = filePath & ".xls"
        .Export (False)
    End With
Here are the settings when I run the report through the Crystal Reports 10 IDE:
    - Custom: Data is exported according to selected options
    - Constant column width (in points): 36.0
    - Export object formatting
    - Maintain relative object position
    - Maintain column alignment
One thing I was wondering is that there are different versions of Visual Studio including VS2008 and I was wondering if the Crystal Reports that gets installed with them could be interfering.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Is there a setting that I'm missing in the code, registry, etc.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jim

    Hi,
The only other difference I found as far as I could see was the following two files:
    CRXF_XLS.dll
    CRXF_XLS_RES_EN.dll
Once loaded into the bin directory they are no longer a difference but output is still the same.
There are other differences as far as Only In CRW32.EXE (only Crystal Reports differences by description)
    CRXF_HTML.DLL  10.0.5.75
    CRXF_HTML_RES_EN.DLL  10.0.5.75
    CRXF_RTF.DLL  10.0.5.604
    CRXF_RTF_RES_EN.DLL  10.0.5.604
    CRXF_WORDW.DLL  10.0.5.604
    CRXF_WORDW_RES_EN.DLL  10.0.5.604
    U2FCR.DLL  10.0.0.552
    U2FTEXT.DLL  10.0.5.604
    X3FCREN.DLL  10.0.0.552
    X3FTXEN.DLL  10.0.5.603
Do you think that a possible way to fix this would be to I uninstall Crystal Reports and reinstall without the sp6 and then find out which sp was installed on current windows 2000 server and install that and see what I receive for output?
I have been spending way to much time on this and really need to bring the customer in so that they know we have this level of an issue.  Do you also think maybe we should open a ticket? I don't know if this is feasible as you mentioned there is no support for Crystal Reports 10.
    Thanks,
    Jim
