Expressions in XML

Hello,
Is it possible to put expressions in XML file between tags. For example,
<name>
Debilius + "878"
<name/>
or
<name>
Debilius + getting number from DB
<name/>
Thank you,
Aleksej

ok, maybe i misundertood your question.
do you expect a parser to process some kind of expressions in XML and get the values for you? if yes, well... doesn't look very possible.
what you can do is use Java extension functions in XSL to process expressions, but it is some kind of lousy.
why do you intend to achieve?
why don't you read the resource bundle values in Java and put them in your XML doc?

    Doesn't seem to.

  • Regular Expressions and XML Schemas

    The standard regular expression syntax in JDK1.4 doesn't support some of the constructs used by pattern facets in XML schemas.
    For example the "Name" type is specified by the pattern "\i\c*" but the java.util.regex regular expression handler throws an exception when it encounters this with the following message:
    Illegal/unsupported escape squence near index 1
    Is anyone aware of any regular expression java libraries or tools that will cope with the XML syntax?

    Thanks, but perhaps I should clarify. I realise that \i\c* is invalid syntax in the java regexp handler. My point is that in XML Schema regular expressions \i is meaningful - in fact it means
    "the set of initial name characters, those matched by Letter | '_' | ':' "
    I was wondering if anyone knew of a regular expression library that understood and correctly interpreted that.

  • Expressions with XML

    For some (I'm sure very logical) reason I can't create valid expressions when I am mapping from Oracle to XML. I am trying to use a CASEWHEN [e.g. casewhen(MEMBER_BENEFIT.SEX=0,'M','F')] - syntax is perfectly valid but I get the error 'missing right paranthesis'.
    Help much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
    I didn't know this syntax which technology are you using?
    Anyway, you can try this one:
    decode(MEMBER_BENEFIT.SEX,0,'M','F') on Oracle
    Or more generic:
    CASE
    WHEN MEMBER_BENEFIT.SEX = 0
    then 'M'
    else
    'F'
    end
    Execute this mapping on the source...

  • Can an XML Publisher template be expressed in XML?

    Hi -
    Is it possible to specify the template for an XML Publisher report in XML? That is,
    does XML Publisher specify an XML Schema for expressing a Template in XML?
    Thanks,
    - Don

    Hi,
    The XML style sheet should not be embedded into the report file. Since XML would represent raw data, you would not include information on how to interpret it. However, there is a way for you to easily reference your style sheet, even when it is on another computer.
    1) Go to Configure >> Report Options in TestStand, and change the style sheet file to your style sheet.
    2) Uncheck the "Store Absolute File Path" box.
    3) Make sure the style sheet is in the same folder as your report.
    You can view this on any computer, and now a relative path is now being used to reference the file.

  • Does FC Express import XML files?

    I just want to be ABSOLUTELY clear when I go to the client.
    I have a FCP HD2 project (the most recent FCP) that has only just been started. Simple butt edits, no effects, no transitions. If I create an XML file, with the lowest settings, can I import that into FC Express without loosing to much?

    No. FCE does not support XML, nor does it support importing projects from FCPro.

  • Regular expressions for xml parsing

    I have a xml parsing problem that I have to solve using regular expressions. It's not possible for me to use a different method other than regular expression. But there is a problem that I cannot seem to rap my head around. I want to extract the contents of a tag but the problem is that this tag occurs serveral times in the XML file but I only want the contents of one particular occurence. Basically the problem is as follows;
    I want to extract
    <bp:NAME ***stufff***>(I want this part)</bp:NAME>This tag can occur is serval places. For example here;
    <bp:ORGANISM>
    ***bunch of tags***
    <bp:NAME ***stufff***>***stufff***</bp:NAME>
    ***bunch of tags***
    </bp:ORGANISM>or here;
    <bp:DATABASE>
    ***bunch of tags***
    <bp:NAME ***stufff***>***stufff***</bp:NAME>
    ***bunch of tags***
    </bp:DATABASE>I do not want the content of those tags. I want the content of the <NAME> tag that is not between either the <ORGANISM> tags or the <DATABASE> tags. These tags can be in any order. I for the life of me cannot seem to figure this problem out. I tried several different approaches. For example I tried using the following regex
    (?:<bp:NAME [^>]*>([^<]*).*?<bp:ORGANISM>.*?</bp:ORGANISM>|
    <bp:ORGANISM>.*?</bp:ORGANISM>.*?<bp:NAME [^>]*>([^<]*))This kind of works, the information I want is either in the first captured group or in the second one. So I just check which group is not empty and that is the one I want. But this only works if there is only one other tag containing the name tag (in this particular regular expression that is the organism tag). Since there is another tag (the database tag) I have to work around, and these tags can be in any order, the regular expression then becomes three times as large and then there are six different groups in which the information I want can occur. This does not seem like a good idea to me. There has to be another way to do this. So I tried using the following regex;
    (?:</bp:ORGANISM>)?.*?(?:</bp:DATABASE>)?.*?<bp:NAME [^>]*>([^<]*)I thought this would get rid of any occurences of the other tags in front of the name tag, but it doesn't work either. It seems like it is not greedy enough. Well I think you get the point. I don't know what to try next so I really need some help.
    Here is an example of the type of data I will run into. The tags can be in any order and they do not always have to occur. In the example below the <DATABASE> tag is not part of the data and the name tag I want just happens to be in front of the organism tag but this is not always the case. The name tag I want is the firstname tag in the file, namely;
    <bp:NAME rdf:datatype="xsd:string">Progesterone receptor</bp:NAME>So I don't want the name tag that is in between the organism tags.

    Thanks a lot after I did that the regular expression worked. :)Good. But remember that in real life, you would then have to apply the XML rules to get the actual contents of the text node. For example it might be a CDATA section or it might include characters like ampersands which have been escaped and which you need to unescape. That's why it's better to use a proper parser, as already suggested.
    It seems to me this forum is full of posts where people are doing homework questions which teach them to do things the wrong way. But of course there's nothing the student can do about that.

  • Regular expression and XML

    Hello,
    I have an XML file containing regular expressions and i parse the file, extract the pattern from it and search for it using java regex package. The problem is it works fine when patterns are words but when the pattern is something like
    write \\d+ (write followed by a space followed by one or mre digits) it doesn't work.
    I wrote the same code but with the pattern embedded in it,ie. without using XML and it worked. But when extracting with XML it fails.
    Also if the pattern is write[0-9] it only extracts write[0-9 and gives an error of no closing bracket.
    Could anyone please tell me what i am missing out
    Thank you

  • Reprasenting regular expression in XML

    hai,
    i have the following regular expression to reprasent 13digit number enclosed in a pair of brakets
    String r= "\\([0-9]{13,}+\\)"
    however when i reprasented in the XML tag as
    <my>
    <rs>\\([0-9]{13,}+\\)</rs>
    </my>
    and read using DOM parser,.unable to match the seqence is not matching at all.
    will anybody pls. tell me howto reprasent in String r in XML
    Thx

    If the content in the XML file is
    \\([0-9]{13,}+\\)
    to represent this in a Java String, you need to code
    String target = "\\\\([0-9]{13,}+\\\\)";
    The backslash (\) is an escape prefix in Java. So to get a single backslash, you need to specify 2 of them. Since you want two backslashes in the string, you need to specify 4 of them.

  • Outlook Express and XML

    Hi All,
    I'm writing a java program that has to open Outlook Express, download the mail and then move the the emails from the inbox folder to an index folder. Then it has to call a mouse recorder.exe to extract the emails into another folder(which is already working). I know how to open outlook express and my mouse recorder.exe, but now I would like to use xml to download the mail a.w.a move the emails. I thought of using the com objects, but I'm very green with that still. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a better way of doing this? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    ... All the other
    microsoft office components have that feature, but
    nothing for Outlook Express, can anyone tell me why?Outlook Express is the system Microsoft produces for personal use. If you're only one person, you don't need a server or any complicated features, you just need a basic e-mail system. That's Outlook Express.
    I suggested to my boss that they should just change over
    to Microsoft Outlook, but he doesn't want to cause
    then they would have to change over 10000 pc's to be
    able to read files other than .msg. There must be a
    genius out there that can help me..... PLEASE!!! :)I don't know if your language is English, but there's an English saying "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear". At some point you have to decide that the product you are using is inadequate and you need to upgrade to a more powerful product with more features. Outlook Express isn't programmable, your research says. So it sounds like your project isn't feasible.

  • SQL Error : missing expression - Creating XML file with ODI

    Hi,
    I saw threads about errors like this and read that maybe it can come from how I chose the staging area. I still can't see where the problem is. I'm trying to create an xml file from data stored in a Oracle database. The interface which execution fails select data from tables and create a tag in the XML file. Here are information about it :
    The staging area is diferent from the target and is an oracle database schema. (I guess it creates temporary tables in that schema ?)
    In the flow tab, the LKM is LKM SQL to SQL, the option delete temporary objects is set to yes.
    The IKM choice for the target is IKM SQL Control Append and options are as following :
    - insert : yes
    - commit : yes
    - flow contreol : no
    - recycle errors : no
    - static control : no
    - truncate : no
    - delete all : no
    - create target table : yes
    - delete temporary objects : yes
    Columns mapping in the target are the following :
    WKID        >     THEADER.WKID
    EXTID        >     THEADER.EXTID
    ORDER     >     THEADER.ORDER
    INSTFK     >     THEADER.INSTFK
    For every column in the target :
    - Run on source
    - Updating : insert, update and ud4 are checked
    no update key is defined
    In the operator, the step failing when running the interface is the loading data in the work table.
    If you need the SQL request in the execution plan, or anything else, please tell me.
    Thank you in advance for any help on this.
    Marie

    It would help if you provide error message and its stack trace.

  • Regular Expression and XML character help

    Hi All,
    I am working on a system that needs to convert some input from web browser into XML format and transform the data to some other format using XSLT. While doing this, I encounter some special characters that cannot be used in XML. To resolve this, I wrote a class using java.util.regex.Pattern to filter the input. Most of the special characters we successfully filtered except the following characters (as found so far):
    &#920; &#952; (theta), &#928;(pi) and  (prime)
    Does anybody knows how to filter them?
    Thanks!!!

    UTF-8 will work fine for encoding XML. Of course you actually have to use UTF-8 to encode the data. Just saying you did in the prolog doesn't work, if you actually used some other encoding.

  • How to deserialize xml with structure of abitrary nested layers of base class?

    using System.Linq;
    using System.Text;
    using System.Threading.Tasks;
    namespace Test
    public abstract class Evaluable
    public abstract int Eval();
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Linq;
    using System.Text;
    using System.Threading.Tasks;

    public class Num : Evaluable
    [XmlText]
    public int Val { get; set; }
    public override int Eval()
    return Val;
    but it doesn't work, and it's reasonable, since Serializer doesn't know any thing about the subclass. but how to make it work?
    here is my deserialization code:
    var serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Expr), new[] { typeof(Add), typeof(Num) });
    Expr expr = null;
    using (var file = new StreamReader("expr.xml"))
    expr = serializer.Deserialize(file) as Expr;

    I think what you want is to set the XmlElement attribute on the container (Elems).
    It can be done if the deserializer can be made aware of all the potential subclasses of the base class.  It's ok to put multiple XmlElement attributes on the container to let the deserializer know about the various subclasses it can deserialize.
    I don't think there's a way to tell the XmlSerializer externally about new types.  I could be wrong.  [If someone shows me how to do that, I'd sure appreciate it!]   [WORKAROUND:  A potential workaround
    is to create a class that contains all the potential children including the class itself and serialize that.  Seems a little like cheating.]
    Here is a complete example:
    [Serializable]
    public class Foo
    [XmlAttribute( "name" )]
    public string name;
    [XmlElement( "Foo", Type = typeof( Foo ) )]
    [XmlElement( "Bar", Type = typeof( Bar ) )]
    public List<Foo> children = new List<Foo>();
    public void Dump( int level )
    ShowProperties( level );
    foreach( var f in children ) {
    f.Dump( level + 1 );
    protected virtual void ShowProperties( int level )
    Console.WriteLine( "{0}{1}", new string(' ', level * 4 ), name );
    [Serializable]
    public class Bar : Foo
    public string stuff;
    protected override void ShowProperties( int level )
    base.ShowProperties( level );
    Console.WriteLine( "{0}{1}", new string(' ', level * 4 ), stuff );

    Bar b = new Bar() { name = "B", stuff="B's Stuff" };
    Bar c = new Bar() { name = "C", stuff="C's Stuff" };

    </xapi:requestset>According to the docs, you can use any valid XPath expression. Any idea on what might be wrong here? I am trying to exclusively print or email based on the data. Currently, it prints AND emails all documents regardless of the value of XXCUS_DIST_CODE.
    Thanks,
    Kurz

    Error lies on this line --- filter="./XXCUS_DIST_CODE='P'"
    you need to use it like this --
    Suppose you want condition on name in following XML Struction
    <STUDENT>
    <Name> Jatin </NAME>
    </STUDENT>
    the it should be ...
    filter=".//<STUDENT>[NAME = 'Jatin']"
    Not in your case ui suppose it should be filter=".//XXCUS_RAXINV/LIST_G_DIST/G_DIST[XXCUS_DIST_CODE='P']".
    Hope it solves the problem.
